Right!!! Floyd is really scared of Pacquiao… In his last 3 fights Pac has looked massively beatable — especially by a guy Floyd beat every minute of every round after a 2-year layoff.

Pacman had a Floyd fight in the palm of his hand twice — and down he goes to ignominious defeat… Now if Pac can only manage to beat Rios, a raw swinger coming off a loss, Floyd might reconsider and fight him.

How many chances does Floyd need to give these losers?

Of course Mayweather is scared. When it is all said and done and he looks into the mirror at himself every morning, he will know deep down that he is the one that has made all the excuses and he never fought the best opponents available to him. Yes he has fought some great fighters but he has continually ducked Pacman cause he know’s it’s to dangerous for him. He has ducked other fighters in the past like KT. I don’t care that they were signed by two different networks. Mega fights are made too happen all the time and that fight should have been made but Mayweather knew KT would destroy him. just the way Pacman is too dangerous for him.

Floyd Pacquiao would have happened if Pacquiao agreed to the PED testing regimen up front…

The reason Pacquiao won the lawsuit settlement is because Floyd, Floyd Sr, De La Hoya, and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions put damaging innuendo out there. If they didn’t settle out of court and apologize sincerely, they were risking massive fines in the 8 figures.

But all the allegations didn’t hurt Pacquiao… Pacquiao’s fights did better than ever when Floyd was ripping him verbally. It was just more ink and more free publicity.

Like they always say, “I don’t give a damn what you write or say about me … just spell or pronounce my name correctly when you do it.”

Right.., That was a FAKE TARK, who pieced together a couple earlier posts of mine and injected the anti-Pacquiao lines into it. That way it looks to some like something I might have written.

I wrote some pro-Floyd posts, including pointing out that he didn’t duck a prime Cotto, Tszyu, Mosley, DLH, or Williams. That make perfect sense. I don’t see any of those guys being a big threat to Floyd at any time because they weren’t really superior boxer-punchers.

The Pacquiao negotiations are altogether different. Floyd never wanted to fight Pac. And I don’t believe he’ll ever fight Lara, Porter, Thurman, or even Brook … Those guys are really talented and can box and punch.

Boxer…, Floyd fought everyone who was available.. Tszyu was on the self with injuries for 2 years, and then lost to Hatton … Williams lost to Carlos Quintana at a point that fight could have been made … Cheato never beat anyone, couldn’t even beat Williams when he was probably cheating. Plus he only beat Cotto by cheating—the rematch and Mosley fight proved it … Floyd challenged Mosley and De La Hoya when they were both 154-pound champions and Floyd was a Lightweight. They wouldn’t fight Floyd … Pacquiao could have had a Floyd fight by agreeing to reasonable terms, and he didn’t have a chance anyway…
This is a FAR cry from Oscar De La Hoya fighting Yory Boy Campas instead of unifying the title with fellow 154lb Champion Winky Wright..
A FAR cry from Ray Leonard refusing to fight Michael Nunn, Mike McCallum, or Julian Jackson—when they were the 3 Middleweight Champions of the World who each won pieces of the title stripped from Leonard… Leonard WAS fighting as a middleweight—but Leonard went down to 154 to avoid these guys.. He fought Terry Norris—who had been crushed by Jackson.
A FAR cry from Tommy Hearns, who was beaten by Iran Barkley twice, the 1st time when Tommy was 29 years old… Hearns wouldn’t DREAM of fighting Nigel Benn… James Toney… Sumbu Kalambay… Michael Nunn… or Reggie Johnson. They whipped Barkley with ease, but Hearns or Steward wouldn’t consider a discussion about fighting them.
Ducking is in the eye of the beholder. You have to understand who was worthy … who was trying to make worthy fights … and who wasn’t.

TARK says, “Floyd never budged and inch toward Pac”. I’d say that agreeing to a $10 million overweight penalty was budging more than an inch. particularly considering that it was also a Team Pacquiao* dig at Mayweather’s professional integrity. the purse-split had already been decided. “thennn” came Mayweather’s perfectly fair and harmless condition for MUTUALLY-Applied testing. now i ask YOU Tark, how could Floyd possibly know that harmless and MUTUALLY-Applied testing would become a deal-breaker for Pacquiao*? HOW?

Tumbo says.., “IMO, Team Pacquiao* feared LOSING and that’s why they avoided Mayweather. otherwise, how the f’k could Floyd know that a mutually-applied condition would compel Pacquiao* to bolt?”

Pacquiao never bolted. He’s been there consistenly, willing to negotiate reasonable terms. Pac always came to Floyd’s positions. Floyd never budged and inch toward Pac. Every time Pacquiao agreed to a new Floyd demand, Floyd moved the goalposts, “That was then. This is now.”

Finally Pacquiao told his people, “Any drug tests Floyd wants agree to. If he wants me to test between rounds, standing on my head, agree to it. Just get the damned fight done — one way or another.” Then came the money split. When that issue was finally settled, Arum became the new issue.

Floyd bolted from the negotiations numerous times. Each time Pacquiao agreed to his terms, Floyd invented a new obstacle to getting the fight done.

Floyd finally admitted he didn’t want to fight Pacquiao regardless of what… Obviously, all the negotiations had been a charade all along.

Canelo aka Cinnabum is the most Recent Chihuahua PPV flop.. he can’t make a successfull PPV event unless he has an Elite fighter on the Card like Floyd, Cotto or Paquiao.. His last PPV event was so bad he was being pelted with Bottles by the Mexican Fans at the Arena.. He had to have the ref step in and stop the fight just when Angulo was coming on.. Canelo couldn’t stop a broken, old shot Angulo while Cuban Lara Stopped Angulo dead in his tracks and made him cry uncle quitting like Delahoya vs tiny Paquiao… He’s been avoiding Cuban Lara for almost 2 years but with his most recent fights being so crappy like his 12 round humiliation at the hands of smaller Mayweather he was forced to stop running from Lara and make the fight.. His Fans had enough.. He only made a little over 1.3 Mill in his last fight.. that’s less then Sergio made vs Cotto who made over $10Million… Once Cuban Lara beats him silly he’ll join the Tijuana Trash Heap of failed Hype Jobs like Angulo, Abner Mares, Arreola the Mexican Walrus, Ortiz the Mexican Crybaby, Dumb Dumb Rios the Mexican Punching Bag, Chavez Cheato Jr and MargaCheato the Master of Plaster.. etc etc

“Please cite any evidence at all that Pac ever juiced” refusing to agree to harmless and MUTUALLY-Applied testing to face his primary P4P rival and collect an unprecedented payday of $25-$50 million.

now, what evidence can You provide that proves Margarito used or needed “plasterized” handwraps to force Cotto to one knee and not only concede his “0″ but the “rivalry” that is the very foundation of boxing’s appearl for his fanbase?

NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer: “I am as comfortable as I can be that Antonio Margarito’s hand wraps and gloves weren’t doctored during his July victory over Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas . . . We have experienced inspectors not only watching the hands being wrapped, but also the gloves being put on,” Kizer said. “They feel the wraps and sign them and then the gloves and sign them”. speaking specifically about the Tony v. Cotto bout, Kizer said, representatives from the Cotto camp were in Margarito’s dressing room during the entire wrapping of the hands. “They were in there from the beginning,” Kizer said. “Not only them but people from HBO, people from MGM, there are always a dozen or so people in the dressing room . . . I’m pleased with the process we have in Nevada,” Kizer said. “Not only does it stop anybody who tries to do something like that, it stops anybody who is thinking about doing it”.

I keep seeing people say Cotto has to prove, Cotto has nothing to prove and unless someone can generate millions of dollars he doesn’t have to fight anybody. He had earned that right. So unless thy can produce millions( which he can’t) he’s not getting the fight. It’s either PAC, FLOYD, or CANELO or retire with the strap. Anybody else isn’t worth it. He’s fought everyone and anyone. He’s bled in the ring, beat legends, and aside from a weight drained cotto with no trainer that lost to PAC, and the most competitive fight mayweather ever had he beat the best today has to offer. He doesn’t have to fight other middle weights, it’s a bargaining piece to get paid and get other 154 or 147 guys to fight

SLIM, Tony’s beatdown of Cotto boils down to one thing: pain threshold and Margarito possessed that advantage his entire career. Tony absorbed some brutal shots, there’s no denying that, and still kept coming. when the tide turned Margarito landed the same number of shots and Cotto wilted. ultimately, they landed about the same number of punches, both clocked some brutal mileage, and neither were the same afterwards. that’s what I saw and believe. May you have a good night.

Every time a fighter wins there are his detractors who come out of the wood work and make excuses for his victory. Martinez was old and broke down, but was still favorite with the bookies and the boxing public going into the fight. I’ve seen it time and time again. Lacey was exposed as being useless by Calzaghe, yet he was the under dog going into the fight and Lacey was being decrivbed as the next Mike Tyson no less! Tsyzu was too old and passed it when Hatton beat him, but was the pre fight favorite and the fighter that most wanted to see Floyd Mayweather fight at the time. Bute was ‘exposed’ by Froch, but again was the pre fight favorite and the only serious challenger to Andre Ward at super middleweight!

an amazing resurgence for Cotto…..can’t think of an equivalent in the last 10 years……anyone?

Lupe

a story is from a month back before the Cotto fight.. basically Martinez was walking on crutches between Oct to Dec 2013 (3 months) and he wasn’t sure if he’d even be able to walk properly again during that time! then he goes into a world title fight only a few months later??

Martinez moved his training camp to Miami on April 27, and he will remain there until one week prior to the fight. And although he will complete the usual nine-week training camp to which he is accustomed, he feels lucky to have been cleared to train right on time after a lengthy recovery and a gruesome series of treatments.

“I was on crutches for a long time. Until December, I was walking on crutches. I was struggling. I used crutches since my surgery on October 31 until December 18. During all that time I was unable to lean on my right leg at all.”

The description of the added injuries seems to justify the harshness of the treatment.

“I had a partially torn meniscus. I had a breakage in the femoral capsule, right behind the knee. I had a post-operation infection right before the [Martin] Murray fight. I had partially broken cartilage, where the cartilage became like a small saw on my tibia. I had an injury in my ligaments as well, a distension of the ligaments. I also had chondromalacia patellae, which is the injury that occurs beneath the kneecap. That’s why they couldn’t find an integral solution, because there were many injuries together. And recovering from that, being 39 years of age, was difficult. But thanks to the doctors I am fine.”

And judging by the treatment and the series of surgeries prior to that, it seems that Martinez has a lot to be thankful for.

“They did some heavy treatment. They did a procedure to remove cartilage debris and other things from the meniscus area, and they had to regenerate the cartilage. They explained this to me, and it sounded a little bit extreme, but this is what they had to do. They had to provoke a series of micro-fractures on the bone, with something very similar to a needle.

“The bone then begins to bleed, and the blood from the bone, depending on the time you let it remain there, either becomes bone again or becomes cartilage, depending on the time you allow the bone to remain immobile. If you allow the blood to sit there and you don’t move the articulation, the blood becomes bone again. But if you move the articulation about 15 or 18 days after that, and you start moving it again and putting pressure on it, the blood becomes cartilage. And that’s what they did. And during that time, I didn’t move my leg but I did just enough work to create more cartilage.”

The extreme nature of the procedure, which included the removal of a piece of bone embedded deeply into his tendons, led Martinez to believe that his career was in jeopardy.

“At times, the fact that I wasn’t going to make it did cross my mind. I feared I would never walk again. But I always wanted to return to the ring, at least for one last fight. But now, with the way I am seeing my recovery, my position has changed. I am in much better spirits. I changed 100 percent. One thing is to know you have only one leg, and a very different one is to know you have all the weapons you need. I know that on fight night I will be feeling better than ever. It is something that I feel inside me. I feel very happy and motivated, and as long as I feel like that, I know I’ll be OK.”

Hearing a fighter indicating that he feels 100 percent before a fight is one of boxing’s foremost clichés, and Martinez did say the same thing in April of last year, before his bout against Martin Murray in Buenos Aires, only to reveal immediately after the fight that he had entered the ring with injuries in his knee and shoulder, adding a broken hand during the action.

“With Murray I was feeling 1500 percent,” exaggerates Martinez, “but four days before the fight I injured my knee, and I was not going to go out and say, ‘Hey, Martin, guess what? I just injured my knee.’” Martinez says this stressing that the fight was the most anticipated boxing event in his country’s rich history in the sport.

“I was not going to suspend that fight with only four days to go. They would have killed me! I could have never set foot in my own country! I thought, ‘Dead or alive, I am getting into that ring.’ But it was difficult, knowing that four days before the fight I had injured my knee, and one day before the fight my elbow almost came apart, and I couldn’t even lift my left arm, and then in the second round I fractured my hand. I had to struggle a lot, a long, uphill battle, but I thought, ‘I am leaving my heart here, I am leaving my life.’ And I did.”

And he seems ready to do it again, this time taking special care of his injuries through a low-impact training regimen which includes riding a bike. “I already fell twice from that thing, so I have to be careful,” he said.

Martinez used to train on the Oxnard marina using a surf board and a paddle to simply stay afloat and keep his balance, strengthening his knees and ankles in the process, but his legendary fear of water has turned his attention to what he sees as a safer contraption.

“I am also using a sort of skateboard, but attached to the ground, mounted on a single spring axis. [The process is] called proprioception. The strengthening of the muscles is really noticeable.”

“Not Cotto’s problem Martinez was old and broke down”. correct. it’s a chronic problem for fight-fans that these are the matchups promoters consistently try and shove down our throats. also, NO. an undefeated Cotto was not “old” or “slowed down” when he lost his titles to Margarito. simply Pummeled and Beat down to his knee. neither was Williams when he was KTFO by Martinez. or Pacquiao* when he lost to Morales. even though Morales’ perceived decline was the primary motive for Team Pacquiao* pursuing that matchup, which was the ONLY great Morales performance at 130lbs. anyway, the list of competitive matchups involving prime contenders challenging prime champions or other contenders goes on and on and sometimes a fighter gets old overnight. IMO, Martinez collected rust during his layoff and lost the eye of the tiger.

Martinez is slow and have his hands down most of the time that’s what happen. Maybe his legs are not the same as before but he sure can put those hands up a little bit higher. Cotto did really good. Moving forward with his hands tucked in his chin and when he got close he punches with power. That’s what’s happen. Martinez is Taylor made for Cotto. Style makes fights and great boxer or trainer knows that!

I was one of those who thought Cotto would loose. I though he was too small. Too weak. Didnt have the power at the weight. I thought that whilst he was the better boxer that the odds were stacked too much against him in against another skilled fighter (A true middle weight champion). The linear title holder with victories over the likes of previous linear champ Pavlik, top contender’s Chavez and Paul Williams. I really though Cotto had just outgrown his body and his best days were behind him at light welter and welterweight. But Cotto proved me and the rest of the boxing world wrong. And now I think we have to see him for the true great he really is. Those odds that were stacked against him never went away. They were still there and he overcame them. People can say what they want about Martinez but the reality is Cotto was still giving away all the advantages to Martinez but despite all that he was still the better man. That was some performance by Cotto Saturday night, but imagine what kind of performance it would have been were Cotto a 5’10/5’11 natural middleweight. With the strength and power that comes with being that size and natural at the weight? Saturday night against all the odds Cotto proved that he is one of the best boxers of his generation and and an all time great. What he has achieved must make him be considered on that same kind of level as Duran and Hearns in my book. And that is some achievement!

AUZBOX, take a deep breath because you sound on the verge of a meltdown. otherwise, Cotto left no doubt as to who was the better fighter last Saturday night. nontheless, it was ROACH who pointed out Sergio’s broken-down condition but never mind Roach. I pointed out what i suspected was Sergio’s broken-down condition on the very day this fight was announced and as IF Roach’s approval of the matchup didn’t only reinforce that suspicion. of course, neither i or the oddsmakers could simply disregard the memory of a prime and resilient Martinez who had weathered several storms and robberies to earn his titles. he would either return fresh, healed, and rested or rusty and patched-up. he performed like the latter. at this point my only motive is to generate a clamor for Cotto to go out on his shield (and knee) one more time v. Canelo, Golovkin, Quillin, or even a rematch v. Trout. what’s revealing is that no matter how great Cotto’s fans insist he is, they are just as determined that he not face any credible or dangerous opponents. that’s eXACTly what i want to see.

Lets also not forget he was not facing the Cotto of old either. He has been in way more wars and has fought way better comp than Martinez. Martinez was just overrated.

Lol Martinez made the same mistake ODH did against Shane Mosley thinking he was too small and could walk through his punches. Well Martinez tried to walk through Cotto’s punches in the first round and almost got his head taken off. Martinez never recovered , Cotto kept cool, cut off the ring, and every punch was thrown with bad intentions. Only thing broken was Martinez ass which Cotto dismantled.

Let’s stop the crap! Cotto was always faster than Martinez who made a living of fighting slow middle weights. This time he found a sound technical fighter for the first time who was faster and with a good strategy. if you see all the videos of Martinez training his legs were strong and he was fast. Like most, I thought that Martinez was going to win. I was wrong but I always saw Cotto’s strengths. Therefore, guys, please stop the crap.

rock, paper, scissors

that was not the real sergio martinez in the ring.

it was a mere shell of him.

he was nothing more than a borderline cripple.

and his ability to hold a shot has diminished alarmingly.

cotto deserves credit for executing the game plan but let’s not act like he was facing the sergio of old.

he was facing a severely diminished opponent with a bum knee who couldn’t plant his beneath him in order to set himself to throw power shots.

cotto had very little coming back at him to worry about or to deter him from attacking.

every ounce of sergio’s concentration was being used up on him trying to move around the ring without falling over himself.

his movement looked more forced and unnatural than usual.

you could see how much of a struggle it was for him to try and do things that once came so naturally to him.

sergio has always been highly competitive even when he lost.

he never experienced any difficulty throwing or connecting with power punches against any of his previous other 55 opponents.

it came easily for him against all of them.

no one ever had an easy ride with sergio.

everyone had to fight tooth and nail and had to eat plenty of hard leather even in victory.

knees, shoulder, rust, age, and/or inadequate preparation to shake off the rust resulted in an inferior version of Martinez. what was most prominent to me is what is usually described as ring-rust. Martinez simply couldn’t grasp the range or timing, which at the very least gave the impression that he couldn’t plant to deliver his own punches. he was over and undershooting his Left all-fight-long, which is uncharacteristic of a pumped-and-primed Martinez. ultimately, it’s Roach who introduced the notion that Martinez was ripe for the picking and he was right for whatever reason. that wasn’t the Martinez who shook Cintron and defeated Pavlik, Williams, and Jr. still a solid showcase of Cotto’s remaining potency but not his most impressive win or performance.

Miguel Cotto was magnificent against a washed up injured fighter in Martinez. Despite that, Cotto still managed to give our fans a fight, something which American boxers like Hopkins, Gayfeather and Jones Jr. rarely gave us. Cotto’s career is winding down and I’m more appreciative of his skills than ever. I didn’t warm up to Cotto, since he was hyped as a #TeamTrinidad replacement. I’ve grown to respect this man as a fighter who ducks no one. He fights everyone. This was a fight he shouldn’t have taken. Cotto at 160 is nuts. Bigger fighters will hurt him. I’m not even sure him at 154 is a good idea. For the record, I think Cotto should retire after this victory, unless he has PacquinRoids or Gayfeather on the menu. These are the two losses he needs to avenge. He has nothing to gain or prove by fighting guys like Canelo or GGG. They’re naturally bigger fighters who are younger than Cotto is. The fights for Cotto are the Steroid cheat and the runner. Now that Gayfeather’s legs are winding down, he’s more stationary. PacquinRoids NOW should get into the ring with the weight Cotto’s people agree to. Get those two in the ring and let’s call it a career. Cotto needs to fix those two garbage losses.

BOXING NEWS
Sergio Martinez Update
According to Team Maravilla’s Nathan Lewkowicz, former WBC middleweight world champion Sergio Martinez had no hand or knee issues in Saturday night’s fight against Miguel Cotto. “He felt dizzy after the shot to the head in round one and didn’t recover. The only injury was a broken nose.”

As for what comes next, on Sunday Martinez tweeted: “And now comes a period where I will rest and will reflect with my own about what lies ahead. Thank you and now more than ever HLVS [until victory, always]!”

Like it was already said, your whining kind should take lessons of GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP form Sergio but it’s too late ’cause its a heritage BIRTH DEFECT.

I had a knee recon many years ago. Fully fixed. It’s actually stronger than the other one due to one sided rehab. I’m 52, no spring chook, I do stair running, squash, and combat training for people my age. No brace needed. When I was wearing one before it was definitely because I had less than full confidence in it.

Ausbox
My contention is he did step in knowing he wasn’t 100 %. If that is true, and I only contend I don’t know, he has short changed: himself; his opponent, his supporters; the sport. He is too smart to admit to knee problem and then have to face these accusations. His corner however we’re talking abt his knee between rounds. The fight was stopped because he wasn’t abt to get knocked out, he was tripping over his own feet.

Add to this no sparring, now if that’s true, it just points to a knee injury.

Posted June 11, 2014 3:04 am

All we can do is go by what was said. They said he couldn’t recover so that is the answer we need to go by. We should not be trying to create an excuse. They came with no excuses like a lot of fighters do. So lets leave it at that.

Not sure. I thought they were just sleeves. I watched the fight on you tube.Though I don’t think he wore long shorts to cover them up. Never really paid attention to his previous shorts and if they were short or not. I now I wear a sleeve on my knee when I play basketball. I injured my knee, ACL came off my bone and tore my meniscus. It bugs me and will stop me from playing when I am constantly running on it but other than that it doesn’t stop me when I am playing. I only play 2 or 3 times a week. And I take off days in between. And I wear long shorts also. lol.

Peej: we differ on that. Not much else to say. Except…

Martinez was wearing ridiculously long shorts, which covered up his knee wraps. He was wearing knee wraps. Who wears knee wraps? People who don’t gave confidence in their knees.

Any talk of floyd and cotto is stupid. Floyd said he will never fight at 154 when told GGG would meet him there. He said he finishing his career at 147. Bit of a hypocrit if he goes there to face someone he beat easily already but not face a new dangerous guy

I watched it today. What I noticed is Martinez moving just fine in round 1 till he got hit. Then after he was wobbled then he was never the same. So i am placing it on the left hook Cotto hit him with than his knees.

His knees were working just fine till he got hurt in that first round.

Posted June 11, 2014 1:46 am

Argy bargy

I’d like to know what if any pain killers Martinez was on. It looked to me he had no feelng in his knee and couldn’t control his movement because of that. When his trainer said his knee isn’t working what does that mean? Could mean it is not responding to nerve stimulus due to pain killers. Could be. Speculation only on my part.

If I was a Martinez fan who traveled to see that fight I’d be having mixed feelings abt being duped into thinking he was 100%. He wasn’t even close. Even his end fight classy denial of a knee problem protects him from misleading fans. For christs sakes he didn’t spar in preparation. Wtf is that!

Posted June 11, 2014 1:44 am

PEEJ

Yeah I agree, Martinez knee was fine. He looked fine on it in round 1 but once he got knocked down he never recovered and he was on noodles. Shots to the head can do that to you. Cotto won fair and square, should be no excuses.

Posted June 11, 2014 12:51 am

Roger Mayweather

“If they fought for the middleweight title, he’d [Mayweather Jr] beat him [Cotto] again,” Roger said to Hustleboss.com. “Floyd has too much skill for him. If he [Bob Arum] offered enough money, Floyd could whoop his [expletive] again. He’s [Cotto] not as good as they say he is. He got his [expletive] whooped [the last time he fought Floyd Jr.”

Roger brings up a good point about Mayweather Jr having too much skills for the 5’7″ Cotto. We saw exactly that in their fight in 2012 with Mayweather dominated Cotto with his pin point shots, and his beautiful combination punching. And this was with Mayweather taking it easy on him by fighting him fight in order to make it more interesting for the boxing fans to watch.

You could easily see the knee was fine I hated the stupid HBO commentators saying it was not. One other thing I hate is the adds on the ring Matt the should all be removed. Martinez’s promoter indicated in the post fight conference that Martinez said his knee was fine and that he never recovered from the left hook in round 1. So, it’s probable that Martinez will continue to fight but he’ll need to fix that defensive flaw.

It would be better for Cotto to fight Canelo. Canelo is a fight he can win. Nobody really thinks Cotto can beat Floyd except for Floyd haters. Yes Cotto made it competitive but Floyd still won most of the rounds. Plus he still gets a huge payday with Canelo. PPVs would be huge.

Posted June 11, 2014 12:17 am

Cottos win is impressive for the simple fact of him moving to 160 to beat him. Martinez was still the champ even though he never defended his title against the better opposition in his weight class. But as for Cotto beating an all time great or an HOF fighter. That he did not do.

“although Canelo would come into the fight weighing 180 claming to be a middle weight”, which only requires that you weigh-in at 154llbs-160lbs. otherwise, Canelo is welcome to compromise his own fitness by boiling down to an unnaturally low-weight and rehydrating 20lbs+ over night(?!). sounds like another recipe for Upset.

Cotto did what I always knew would do beat the hell out of Martinez and what a better way to win your the under dog and you make it look easy against a south paw. Cotto next fight should be against Andy Lee then Triple G. Mayweather already fought Cotto at 154 and won rematch would be good but outcome would be the same. I think Cotto would beat Canelo although Canelo would come into the fight weighing 180 claming to be a middle weight.

Btw, Martinez was not overrated but it all depends on how highly-rated you think he actually was. i rated him as a top-five middle with the most solid body of work among all middleweights. at 39-years-old, that didn’t work to his advantage but with Cotto’s recent losses and own degree of severe ringwear Martinez was the logical favorite. in fact, i’m surprised that none of his fans are bragging about winning money by betting on Cotto the underdog(?!). even those with unsentimental money in the contest favored Martinez. Cotto’s win isn’t considered an upset for nothing.

Martinez was overrated to start with. People try to claim people didn’t want to face him or he was being ducked but that is bogus. The other titlest were calling him out problem was he was saying they didn’t bring any money to the fight. He also didn’t bring any money to the fight. So he was waiting on a Pac, Floyd or Cotto to step up and fight him. Unfortunately for him he bit off more than he wanted in Cotto. He did also against Murray.

TACHYON, you’re absolutely correct. i included both scenarios in my pre-fight posts. both were entirely possible and i had no money in the fight. i could honestly state what i expected: the Martinez that defeated Jr. exploits his size advantage and tees-off on Cotto. a fit but broken-down Martinez (like FREDDIE predicted. somehow you boys keep ignoring that pesky little fact) wilts v. an always strong and perhaps strongest version of Cotto . . . who Still lost v. LMFAO There’a 100 reasons why Canelo should beat Cotto but he won’t because is outta his league if the fight takes place in this year. His only hope is that Cotto’s age and battle worn come to a halt. You bash Cotto beating and old Martinez, but what do you call Canelo fighting “old” Cotto? The only diff id that Cotto will tax that red headed hype job’s azz. LMFAO!

Cotto was launching and landing solid shots from the opening bell. at which point, Martinez’s rust became obvious. i can’t ever recall Martinez, in win or loss, over and undershooting his Left with such frequency. he simply couldn’t capture the timing or distance. damaged or not his legs looked old on the inside. yeah, he’s an athletic guy who still can hop and glide from a distance but whenever he tried to plant to punch, he looked rusty. this was one of those rare times when “awkward” didn’t favor Martinez but he did look awkward and rusty, which Cotto expertly exploited with thudding regularity. it’s the best-case scenario that Roach prepared for v. what he claimed was a broken-down Martinez . . . and he may not be wrong about Mayweather either.

Cotto vs Canelo is a toss up, young Alvarez can fight and he’s a strong kid who can punch.. Cotto is the veteran who’s been in with all the best and is riding as high as possible after this bout, if they fight the winner gets to LOSE a well paid rematch with Mayweather but Lara has a chance of spoiling though I think he will be too economical to beat Canelo..

hookoffthejab my friend, no not at all. I was pulling for Miguel Cotto. He deserves attention for what he did regardless of what Martinez he faced. The front page headlines in not only sports news, but world is is Manny Pacquiao’s unheard new position as head basketball coach in a highly respected Philippine Basketball Association league. This is flattering news. We should all be rejoicing because Manny is a man that rose to prominence and reached the pinnacle of sports and life by becoming the greatest pure fighter of all time and then, at the same time being a true congressman that helped pass a human rights bill that will only help thousands of men, women and children that are abused and trafficked around the world. People must realize and understand that Manny Pacquiao’s sensational boxing career is only a means to help those people around the world that need hope. He is a voice for those that are lost and are reaching out. We need to come together in unison and start up signatures to grant a Manny Pacquiao Day for all the good he has done for all of us. Forget color, creed or religion. Manny Pacquiao is a Peoples Person and a Peoples Champion. I don’t have to go into Manny’s ring career because his 8 division titles speak for him. As he nears retirement, and by the way, he’s been looking at different Islands to purchase and move into for his final retirement. Sure doesn’t seem like he is in need of money because money doesn’t make Manny, Manny makes the money and uses it to help those in need. I will do some research on petitioning for a Manny Pacquiao day and get back to all of you. I ask that you help me honor the man for all that he has done for humanity. Manny is back on top, and don’t be surprised, and you heard it hear first, when Manny Pacquiao’s basketball team brings back a title. Manny might even get the MVP of the league. Manny is the best!

FIGHT AFICIONADO, Sergio’s “cherrypicking” title was included along with his middleweight straps. it was part of the package deal, which made him such an appealing opponent for Cotto and ultimately Roach. consequently, logical opponents like Golovkin, Canelo, Quillin, Lara, or even Trout, Angulo, Molina, or Kirkland are not included in Cotto’s “thrilling future”. it’s good business and unlike Martinez who brought his own calculations into this bout Cotto executed so he’s earned the “privilege” but fight-fans don’t have to buy it or refrain from pointing out that safer (not necesarrily safest) paydays has become the guiding principle underlying Cotto’s less-than-thrilling future.

Has Cotto given word on whether he’ll defend his middleweight or jr middle title? This is key. Good news is the cherry picking ducker Martinez lost so we don’t have to worry about him playing keep-away from GGG with his title anymore. He got what he deserved.

Manny Pacquiao is simply the most talented man on the face of the earth. A legend inside and outside the ring. Manny Pacquiao has a bottomless pool of talent in his DNA that allows him to achieve things we can only imagine. The PBA in my opinion is one of the most talented basketball sources the NBA scouts use for potentially great basketball players. Manny Pacquiao obviously has the eye for talent otherwise he would not have been chosen for this prestigious position. I have been trying to contact Kia Motors in an effort to purchase historic jerseys, caps, shoes and other memorabilia before everyone sells out. I dare anyone to name one other person in the world that throws himself into as many careers as Manny Pacquiao and succeeds. Manny Pacquiao is at another level in life. I would go as far as to say that Manny would probably beat California Chrome in a race. This is a man that does not have limits. Kobe Bryant created his own shoe after being inspired by Manny Pacquiao. Manny knows basketball. I expect to see him on the court contributing to the team’s victories. Let me stop and take a breathe here. I’m reading off of my chalk board that has listed all of his accomplishments, and the board and chalk are just about done. Congressman, Actor, Model, Singer, Philanthropist, I can go on and on, but a basketball coach at just about the highest level is paramount. Manny just signed a huge contract for himself that has set him up for life as well as his children, and this is only boxing. His sponsorship’s and singing engagements are mind boggling. His tax issues have been resolved, and if Miguel Cotto finds it in himself to fight Manny Pacquiao in hopse of revenge, Manny will win his 9th division title. Unbelievable! Why do some people have so much talent. Manny Pacquiao is also rumored to run for the Presidency in the Philippines in the near future, and guess what, he wins that also. This is what happens to a true man of God that walks the walk and talks the talk. Manny Pacquiao is a humble, caring, selfless, respectful, giving, honorable man that has set a standard for people to be like and live like. he is the most sought after and loved man on this earth. Manny Pacquiao is without a doubt the greatest pure boxer of all time, but he still has much more titles to win and mountains to conquer. I know the haters will show their envy after reading this historical accomplishment by Manny Pacquiao. And that’s okay because Manny will forgive you as I will also. Trust me when I say this, there will never be another Manny Pacquiao ever again. Please purchase Kia Motors Basketball jerseys if you can. Manny is the best!

Decision

I thought that it was clear that no version of Martinez could beat Cotto. While Martinez is the better boxer, Cotto was too big for him, much too strong.

It was like watching a heavyweight against a middleweight fighter.

When this is said, Martinez was clearly injured, his leg movement looked strange, and so he had no puching power.

Cotto is so physically strong that I think he will beat Mayweather now. He came close in their last fight.

Canelo thoroughly shocked and DOMINATED Trout in every conceivable boxing category. he then followed-up with a trouncing of Angulo who was just one unexpected hematoma away from KOing Lara. there’s a reason that Cotto has declined Canelo’s challenge$ and decided to fight Martinez for less. a fight v. Canelo has been the most logical matchup for a while but it will also be Cotto’s last fight. he Knows it and is avoiding and postponing it for as long as possible. he’s definitely found a home with Arum & Co. that’s their M.O. and specialty.

Its funny how everyone is making excuses for Martinez even tho he didnt make excuses. Prior to the fight, everyone knew of his prior injuries and 90% of so called fans still picked Sergio to win. Jake Lead Rights

The reason he beat the living crap out of Sergio is because Sergio’s knees hadn’t healed as well as he would’ve liked. Sergio was unable to move like his usual self. It still takes skill to enter the ring and execute it but to Sergios credit the outcome of this fight wouldnt have been the same just 3 yrs ago even with cotto being trained by Roach. Sergio was a sitting duck. He took it like a man but we all know that this past Saturday we saw an old decrepit boxer with no foot work like what we are used to seeing. So easy on the hoopla.

Cotto made a guest appearance at 160, kicked MAJOR azz and now he would be FOOLISH to squander the cache he has built by defending his title at a weight he is poorly suited to on a regular basis… The Money for Cotto is at 154 or facing Mayweather or Canelo, its NOT rocket science Quillilan, GGG and the rest bring NOTHING of value to the table for Cotto… Making a guest appearance in a weight class does not obligate you to fight there for the duration of your career its not as if Miguel had issues making 154, hell he was 155 when he laid that beating on Sergio…

Floyd already schooled Cotto and Canelo at 154 easily but Floyd is best at 147, he has troubles making 154. Cotto needs to fight the winner of the Canelo fight next. And not be duped into fighting Manny at a catch weight. If he is not all dehydrated he whops Mannys ass…

Havoc, Mayweather and Pacquiao DON’T belong at 160 pounds anymore than Cotto belongs at 175 or Cruiserweight so that’s just a really petty feather you are trying to put in his cap.. Some of you guys have REALLY short memories Mayweather beat Cotto when he weighed ONE or so pounds less at weigh in than he did for Martinez…Cotto is not a fighter reborn, he was always a TOP fighter and that’s why he has been in with the BEST of the era at 147 etc… That said the OLDER Mayweather handled him 2 years ago and Pac Man pounded him in 2010 though I don’t see Pac Man beating ALOT of guys at 154 and neither does his team who are adamant that he cannot box above 150 for safety reasons…

Posted June 10, 2014 9:42 am

I agree with most, Canelo-Cotto would be the fight to watch, but not if Lara has anything to say about it. Trout gave Canelo all kinds of problems and the fight could have gone either way. IMO, Lara is a much complete fighter than Trout. Alvarez did beat El Perro, who I felt would really test Alvarez, but Angulo appeared like a shot fighter and Canelo had an easy night. Lara will not be an easy target for Canelo, but it’s not going to be a cakewalk for Lara either…we’ll just have to wait and see.

Cotto-GG would be a good fight, but the PPV numbers won’t be there as GG has yet to fight a big name fighter. I know the majority of posters here feel that GG will destroy Cotto, but I don’t see it. GG hasn’t fought anyone that can hit him back and will find himself just as Lucas Matthysse did against Danny Garcia. A Floyd rematch would sell, but should be at 154 for Floyd’s title not for the MW title at catch weight.

Miguel Cotto did what he had to do to beat Martinez. Martinez was obviously not the fighter he once was, and the inactivity, age and injuries only added to his decline. As far as Miguel Cotto is concerned, he put himself at the top again even though, IMO, he is not as good as he showed. I say this with all respect because he is a great fighter that has always taken on the best and has always been a class person, but the truth is he will have serious problems fighting fighters like Canelo, GGG, , Mayweather, Porter, Quillin and of course the legendary Manny Pacquiao. Cotto’s fight was a bit of an illusion. Was Cotto that good or was Martinez that bad? I think think it was both, but Martinez was only a shell of himself. Regardless, Cotto has now elevated himself as one of the top draws. His victory was a historic celebration for him inside what he calls his house (MSG). No one thought he could do it, but he did regardless of the circumstances. Where does Miguel Cotto go from here? He has plenty of choices, but we need to find out what his goal is. Does he want the big pay day against Floyd, Canelo GGG, Pacquiao or maybe he takes on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. This is of course if Chavez Jr. can starve himself for 3 months and make weight. Miguel Cotto has options, but it comes down to what he wants most. If he decides to take on a monster like GGG, he will get a lot more respect, but he will get destroyed. GGG is a monster. Maybe he gives Martinez a rematch to prove once and for all that his win wasn’t a fluke. My advice for the great Miguel Cotto is to stay away from Pacquiao, GGG, Canelo and Qullin and Floyd. The rest he has a chance to beat, but not these guys.

As much as I know Cotto did not beat a healthy Martinez, he did look very good and definitely made things interesting. Let’s not forget that although Martinez was thee middleweight champ, he was technically a 154lber fighting at 160, meaning that Cotto (155lbs) will have to tangle with guys much bigger than him…so he must be somewhat matched correctly or it can get ugly for him, fast.
