“I scored it 115-112 for Cano.” I scored it a Draw, Peter, and I think that was a reasonable decision. But giving Cano three points over Paulie? No. BTW, I think if you watch a slo-mo replay of the “knockdown” you’ll see that Cano really didn’t knock Paulie down with a punch.

“Except for Esteves in the Garcia and Morales fight..”

Estevez is a fine referee and I have said so in other threads on ESB. But he does have some weaknesses–I’m not going to go into detail about them now–that I saw again on Saturday night. But I do think he is one of the better refs around.

As for Steve Smoger, well, he’s hard to figure out sometimes. Usually, he does a very fine job, but every now and then he just seems to short-circuit or not give a hoot about making the calls that he needs to make–like letting Cano repeatedly hit Paulie below the belt. Heck, I was yelling at Smoger as much as Malignaggi was.

The Quillin N’Dam fight was good, but where the hell did they get those refs from. Except for Esteves in the Garcia and Morales fight those guys were so fat and weird looking how could they save the boxers in time if they were hurt.

Morales has got to hang them up before he gets killed.

Cano won that fight and was robbed by the judges.

WTF is with that ref taking points from both Bailey and Alexander, to prove he was the boss?, it made it 9-9 so what is the point.

Is that the same guy who made Yuri Foreman fight with a busted knee? He looks and acts insane in there. When they introduced him he had a maniac look on his face and then started talking and yelling at the boxers telling them how to fight.

The Malignaggi ref looked a beach ball with legs. What maniac appoints these refs and judges in NY? They are embarrassing.

Garcia has an excellent jab and a mighty left hook, plus he’s fast, he’s the real deal for sure. Khan should stop begging for a rematch, Danny will spark him again. Khan is fighting a lightweight in his comeback. I’m guessing that’s because there were no featherweights available. I love deluded fighters, who think they’re something that they’re not. Khan is already talking about Mayweather again, what a joke. He’ll never change, his ego is the size of China.

I have to give it to GBP, their fighters are getting paid..Danny Garcia made 1mil to fight Erik Morales that’s nice right there..from what I heard Alvarado and Rios didn’t even make nothing close to that combined..

WTF???!

Garcias dad is definitley the Puerto Rican Floyd Mayweather SR… both pretty fkn crazy and talk some insane sht but what can you do.. Danny is a good kid and still congratulated Morales after the match.. As they say you can pick your friends but you can’t pick your Family… What ever you say about Dannys Dad the guy did manage to get Danny to this point in his career.. I think alot of his Rage at those conferences is because he trully loves his son and is very protective… Great couple of weekends of Boxing these past few weeks…

WTF???!

A good rivalry between a Mex and Puerto Rican Fighter can lead to some serious money matches for each of them and leave both very wealthy.. IF Arum and Goldenboy can work things out Rios and Garcia could have some serious money matches.. but the bad blood with Goldenboy and Arum is definitely not good for the fighters… I see Rios being a tough straight ahead fighter and Garcia a good Boxer puncher who can bang so it would be a great fight for Mex and PR..

All fkn around aside I don’t like to see veteran Boxers go out like that but he was game and willilng so he gets my respect for that.. not sure who he’s going to fight in Mexico but I hope he doesn’t go through this same type of beating on his last fight.. just not needed this late into his career…

I find it hard to feel sorry for Morales since his own stubborness is what lead to his demise on Saturday night..Im glad to hear he’s alright and didn’t really take a serious beating, just a hard shot that momentarily scrambled his brains and hopefully knock some sense into him about retiring.

the reason Garcia is underrated is because he’s become noticeably better on a startling fight-by-fight basis. KingTFO of Khan whose been projected to be the next elite thing for years has given this kid loads of confidence in his fighting ability. he’s not unbeatable (yet) but his poise and discipline in fights has become pretty impressive. i hope Garcia is able to cash-in on his hard-earned success right now since the welter division is a particularly hazardous division to compete in these days. a lot of talented, proven, tested comp with sleepers like Garcia able to demote even the most highly-touted contenders on any given day. in the meantime, this type of success couldn’t happen to a nicer kid . . . (with an idiot father).

That was one of those scary KnockOuts where everyone holds their Breath because they’re not sure if the guy is going to survive it.. once he showed signs of life everyone felt a bit better because those kinds of KO’s can result in career ending physical damage…

“…the reality is that he cannot hit worth a damn so he had to struggle with Cano at certain points.” T

This is true and it’s also Malignaggi’s greatest weakness. Once his opponents realize he has no power, they just walk through his punches–just like Cano did. Cano also made it perfectly clear–or Paulie did himself–that Paulie’s speedy hands are a thing of the past.

I would favor Garcia over Rios, Brandon does not have much of a boxing game and Garcia is fast enough to catchup with Brandon and put him on his seat…. Reality is that Brandon took ALOT of abuse in that short frame with Alvarado, he is ripe to get knocked out by someone…

Malignaggi, needs to stop making excuses the reality is that he cannot hit worth a damn so he had to struggle with Cano at certain points… I have no issue with Paulie getting the nod on activity but the reality is that his well known power deficits allow his opponents to stalk him without much fear of reprisal…. Cano is a kid that was beat up and stopped by and OLD Erik Morales, the fact he had Paulie down and in trouble does not really look good…

Posted October 21, 2012 10:04 pm

I believe the reason Garcia doesn’t get recognition has to do with the fact that few expected him to be fighting at his current level. The majority of boxing fans expected him to lose against Morales on their first fight and that didn’t happened. Then came his encountered against Khan, and again, the odds were not on his side. A few here posted that Morales was going to give him a boxing lesson this time around…though that was more wishful thinking than anything else, it didn’t turn out that way.

However, also probably many have doubts about his skills; he’s winning and making a name for himself. At the same time, he’s gaining a heck of lot of experience, and for what I can see so far, he’s willing to work and be in top shape for every fight. He’s still young (just 24 years young), is determined and has lots of power; those are great attributes for any fighter.

It has nothing to do with nationality…one must give credit where credit is due and he deserves credit for what he has accomplished up to this point.

Danny Garcia isn’t any more skilled than Brandon Rios as far as boxing goes..Swift is still a work in process with a good punch who can be outboxed just like Rios..Brandon on the other hand has not only beaten undefeated fighters but stopped guys who have never been ktfo..we already seen A mere Con and Erik Morales in similar situations against Prescott and Pacquiao way before Swift got to them..I like Garcia but he’s not the man to beat at jr welter, the division is still wide open and up for grabs..like I said, Matthysse, Garcia, Alvarado, Peterson, Rios, ect are all good fight versus each other, I see titles constantly changing owners if these fights can be made..

Garcia was the best fighter on the card by far. He has a stronger and more versatile stance than Quillin has. He’s more relaxed and less vulnerable. They could both improve their jabs by 50%—especially Garcia who’s only 24 and has a lot more time.

Posted October 21, 2012 9:02 pm

TARK

I hated the advice from Quillin’s chief 2nd. He kept asking for a KO. When you’re beating a hittable guy on points you concentrate on scoring and defending, not a KO.. N’Dam isn’t a good boxer but he could hurt you or knock you out if you make a mistake—so you deny him that chance. Quillin was very tight because he wanted to win so badly. The right advice would have been to loosen up and get his jab going so he could set up his power shots with less risk—not “Knock this guy out and let’s go home.”

Posted October 21, 2012 8:59 pm

Quillin’s backers should invest in a great oral surgeon for Peter. He’s going to make millions and it’s better to have a Sugar Ray Leonard smile than a Leon Spinks smile.

The unnamed author wrote, “The fight was so competitive that even with four knockdowns going into the twelfth round, there was still the possibility N’Dam might win … There is ALWAYS the possibility ANYONE might win—but N’Dam’s chances at that point were slim indeed.. N’Dam was broken down by the 12th. Quillin beat him by 8 points on every card. Even if N’Dam scored 2 knockdowns in the 12th and Quillin scored zero knockdowns that round—Hassan would have lost unanimously 112-110.

It kills me, every time I come to this website the amount of dudes on here analizing these boxers the way they do. Garcia has a foundation as a fighter, Rios is a typical MEXICAN FIGHTER…lots of heart..very little skill. Do some of you know what its like gtting rocked by a punch in the ring…Garcia will have Rios looking like he’s bobbing his head at a HIP-HOP concert. That brawl n mawl style wont work with him..he knows how to time raging bulls..case in point Amir Khan. Garcia is nice. Devon Alexander will beat him tho…he’s boring, but he’s good.

Morales should have retired a few years ago. Once a great fighter, but this was only for the money.

Garcia is a good fighter. I still think there’s guys out there that will beat him. Rios and Alvarado both would beat him, and Matthysse would probably beat him also. Either of these guys would be in for a tough fight with Garcia because he is tough, has one punch KO power and is both mentally and physically tough.

Malignaggi is waste of a fighter, he offers nothing, but for some reason GBP gets him wins one way or another. Alexander is the same as Malignaggi. He’s one of two of the most boring fighters ever. The other is Malignaggi.
Quillen and N Dam were warriors. They fought their hearts out and will have to be dealt with. Quillen is going to develop, and he has one punch KO power. He’s going to be one of the best P4P fighters in boxing. Keep an eye on this guy, he’s for real.

if knockdown a guy six times and he still gets up and keeps on hammering at you, then something must be amiss. Atleast 4 if not 5 knockdowns were because of NDam’s bad footwork.
