@ Sod was a walking Zombie when he went to the center of the ring dragging his right feet still feeling the effect of the devastating headbutt and Rigo knew that, this is why he took advantage of it and clocked Sod. Sure it was legal but not a fine way to win a match. Even before that, the fight was pretty much even so you can’t say Rigo would of won it anyway on a great win. In fact the fight could have gone either way for both side, we just didn’t get to see the true outcome of a fair fight because of the cheap shot that ended the match. I don’t see why you are so dismissive of Sod for all we know he could of knock out Rigo had the match continue without the cheap shot. LOL Sounds more like an excuse in order to shield your boyfriend Rigo from the cheap shot criticism.

resource.., You’re an idiot boy

Nothing illegal happened in that ring.. Headbutts happen all the time in Boxing you fruitball — and this was not a deliberate butt.. You don’t have to touch gloves when the referee orders you to box — Rigo did as a courtesy.

When’s the last time Kokietgym fought a fighter who’s name you recognize??? What happened in that fight???

Enough said.

That’s why Rigo is the most unworthy opponent to fight for the most popular fighters because he just doesn’t bring anything on the table business-wise, and it’s not because people fear him that not even networks and promoters want him. He’s not just that marketable. That’s just BS.

Posted July 22, 2014 9:05 pm

Fight Aficionado

They say Top Rank is letting Rigo’s contract expire without an extension. A shame given his talent but reportedly HBO doesn’t want to televise him because they think he’s boring. I disagree in terms of strictly boxing, but he also has no personality to a US audience. He looks like a flatliner, never exhibits any kind of personality, and combine that with his rep as a pure boxer there’s just not much interest in him.

hibdeebibdee… Come on… It makes no difference when they stopped it.

This bum was only going to last another minute or 2 if the refereee gave him 10 minutes rest.. Sod couldn’t defend himself.. The fight never should have been made.. If a head clash puts you out guess what??? You’re far from a title challenger caliber fighter.

The fact is Rigondeaux shouldn’t be fighting anyone named Sod Kokietgym and he knew it… He was insulted.. His opponents should be named Leo Santa Cruz or Carl Frampton — and THEY wouldn’t even fight a bum like Kokietgym. He’s a one-round job for any great 122-pounder.

Posted July 22, 2014 12:48 pm

hibdeebibdee

I didn’t see anything wrong with what Rigondeaux did, however I thought it was very interesting how anxious Rigo was to take Sod out. But I do feel that the ref did two things wrong. 1. He didn’t give Sod enough time to recuperate from the headbutt. Secondly, he stopped the fight too soon. Sod wasn’t KOd. He was pissed as a hornet when the ref called him out and stopped the fight. But it’s done, so now we move on. Hopefully, the referee in Rigos’ next bout won’t be so incompetent.

Stop hyping the track and field runner. He wasn’t forced to fight the likes of Sod. He fought him because Rigo’s style is not very marketable so he has to fight someone who would gladly take the fight to earn a living. Sadly, Rigo short ended the fight prematurely by a sucker punch cheap shot that is not something worth celebrating as a victory.

The FACT is that Roach was a former PRO Boxer AND a PRO Trainer and he SAID that Pavlik would KILL Hopkins. I have not been a PRO Boxer and I am not a PRO Trainer but I KNEW that Hopkins would SPANK Pavlik….Therefore being a PRO Boxer or PRO Boxer is not the factor. Knowing WHO is going to WIN and HOW is the factor. Thats all that I was saying. I wasn’t saying that I never Boxed. I’m saying that I am CORRECT whether I Boxed or NOT.

I personally think the ref should have given Sod a little more time to recoop, but there was no blood. Normally there is a cut from a bad butt, so he must have thought no blood, no big deal. Rigo did exactly what he was supposed to to. He touched gloves with him, (which he did not have to do), then clocked him. Rigo threw power punches from the time the bell rang. If he had danced and jabbed, everyone would have complained then. If he gave this guy 5 rematches, he’d KO him 5 times.

I’ve experienced both thats why I KNOW that receiving a headbutt is NO excuse. The last time I received a headbutt MY eyebrow was split and I immediately wanted to SPANK the guy. No recovery time needed. MY adrenaline from being pissed off trumped the pain from the headbutt. SO I KNOW what I’m talking about. IF you don’t get pissed off when you’re headbutted its because you’re SISSYFIED. SO SISSYFIED Sod got what he deserved.

Frampton should beat Martinez. Then Rigo can hoover up the IBF and WBC belts from Frampton and Cruz, adding to the WBO and WBA belts he already has. If Rigo can achieve this with ease, as most people presume he will, then a case can be made for calling the Cuban the Pound For Pound Number One. He’ll be right up there with Floyd that’s for sure.

Everyone talks about Rigo as boring but I’ve seen him KO dudes before. If he doesn’t feel threatened by an opponent he’ll finish them. Against guys like Donaire he’s content to outbox them. This makes him all the more tough an opponent to prepare for because you can’t be 100% which approach he’ll use.

Most boxers can do what he just did, but most boxers don’t want a cheap win under their belts. Just when he needed to put in a spectacular win to bring his stock up, he just frustrated more Boxing fans, especially those who paid money to be there.

TJ my friend, you seem to forget Bob Arum is a very rich old man and many other things besides, he doesn’t have the drive or the ambition any more of say an Eddie Hearn or Oscar the Tranny. Rigo would do well to leave Bob and get another promoter. All those fights you mentioned are the ones we want to see of course, add Lomachenko into the mix and you have four excellent fighters, fighting each other, like in the old days. I think Rigo would probably make short work of Quigg and Frampton, and if not, he’d beat them both by a very wide margin on points. Santa Cruz would put a good fight, he stands a far better chance, but Rigo’s excellent boxing skills would see him win a UD. Lomachenko would probably be the one who causes Rigo the most problems because his boxing skills are close to the same level as Rigo, that would be an excellent fight.

Hope Rigo gets to fight Cruz and then Frampton for world titles. The Cuban is a special fighter but he’s old for a lighter weight boxer. I want to see his skills on display for the short time he is at his peak. Let’s hope he gets the biggest fights possible ASAP.

TJ

I AM AMAZED that Bob Arum isn’t on the phone to both GBP, Hatton Promotions and to EDDIE HEARN to match RIGO up with Frampton, Santa Cruz or QUIGG.

Any combination would be a sure-fire money spinner and Bob should be thinking, Manny has about 2 or 3 fights in the tank… I need to be putting big dollars on promoting: RIGONDEAUX, Mikey Garcia, Terrence CRAWFORD, Jessie Vargas, Lomachenko and Walters as they are the future stars in his locker.

Get RIGO an immediate Mark time match in 8 weeks to keep sharp and another early in 2015 and then a big UK outdoors fight with Frampton or QUIGG or a mega Vegas fight with Leo Santa Cruz.

All three opponents like to throw lots of punches and all like to fight in the pocket, so it cannot be a boring spectacle…

Bob, you need to speculate to accumulate!

Make the fights happen!

Sucker move by Rigo. The head clash was bad enough and it clearly hurt Kokietgym. And after he hauled himself off the canvas and sportingly extended his arm to touch gloves Rigo laid him out him with with a cheap shot.

TARK

Rigondeaux isn’t boring to me…

He has a 60% KO ratio in his last 10 fights — and Floyd Mayweather has a 20% KO ratio in his last 10 fights.

The main reason he doesn’t look for KO’s is pretty obvious:

If you blow everybody away—like Rigo did to Kokietgym—you don’t get much boxing experience. That’s the problem with bombers like Dempsey when they run up against masters like Tunney. Tunney didn’t knock anyone out. He beat the fuk out of them over 15 or 20 rounds—while rarely getting hit a solid shot. Dempsey negotiated 10-round fights—unheard of in championship fights. If Tunney was going to trash him he wanted a quick end to it. Foreman should have negotiated 6-round fights with Ali and Young, lol.

The Catch-22 is: the public didn’t like Tunney but idolized Dempsey. Rigondeaux would be smart to light people up—and smash them out early. He already knows how to box but he can punch with lethal force … As much as he enjoys hammering people over the distance, he has to start hammering them TFO!!! He needs to be Super Floyd.

“a cuban will always go for a head butt or a sucker punch to win a fight given a chance”. it’s the advantage that Gamboa attempted to grab v. Crawford following a break. Crawford barely avoided taking one flush right on the temple. Gamboa immediately apologized with the amateur bow, which i’m certain he would’ve gladly done if his shot had landed. the damage would’ve already been done. objective accomplished.

Rigo has Andre Ward syndrome. Too good for his own good. Skills but not enough thrills. I love pure boxing but casuals wanna pay $ to see action.

Boxtradamus C’MON. We all know correctawhatever is you with another name. Same as you back both fighters in a tough call then claim people are impersonating your call. You seriously need to grow up. For the rest of us, you are a bit of pity worth amusement but you must have a pretty sad life cos all this seems to mean a bit too much to you.

“Will more people tune in to see “The Jackal’s” next fight?”

No. Lets see Rigo do this 2-3 more times without the benefit of a headbutt and then Yes we would all want to see Rigo on a prime cable network.

Otherwise … no interest.

Well, at least Rigo wakes up… nobody wants to watch a runner in the ring. Keep knocking people out, Rigo…. maybe we’ll be interested. Maybe Rigo learns something in Lara-Alvarez fight…

Just watched the fight it was hilarious but the ref should of gave sod a chance to fight when he got up.
Rigondeaux would of KOd him anyways.

Nothing controversial here. The ref said fight. Period. Just like floyd and ortiz. Coertez said box. There were four apologies that took place before floyd koed him. Four. How much more do u need? Rigo was in his rights to knock him stiff.

Idiotic author just looking for something to complain about. For your information boxing is no ballet and once the referee says fight you have protect yourself at all times. Rigo destroyed Sod and all his detractors are still yelling boring! What a hack!

“Boxtrajackass”, the last thing you want is for Me to notice you. the “Oracle” posted out of line and will be handled accordingly. if her pimp gets in the way, it will be handled as well. now drop that b*tch back on the track and warn her to Keep Her Cocksucker Shut when Te Tumbo is Posting.

Glad this is his last fight under Yop Rank. Now he needs a promoter who can promote him right. Get him fights in Miami

Wtf took Rigondeaux so long? Ponce KO’d Sod in more decisive fashion in 58 seconds of the first round(?!).

Posted July 19, 2014 10:01 am

Boxtradamus

Bring on Rigo verses Lomachenko. You may not find a match of SKILLS together outside of me versus vs The ORACLE of Boxpollo himself!!

Posted July 19, 2014 9:55 am

Boxtradamus

Thank you for the kind words. I laid a PRETTY penny on this one predicting a FIRST round knockout at some good odds and ONCE again prove I am the GREATEST while at it. His SKILLS allow him to place deadly ACCURACY shots to and the fight early and I SAW that!

As long as you bet on Rigo Mayweather Ward or Klitschko it’s almost FREE money!!! You be hard-pressed to name a SAFER investment than THEN!!!

Posted July 19, 2014 9:52 am

CORRECTAMUNDO

Wicked CORRECT prediction Boxtra. Just about everyone picked Rigo by decision as the guy in front it was very DURABLE yet you once again SHOW us why you are so great. Well done sir!!!

Bad headbutt that Sod obviously didn’t recover from, but really a mismatch from the start and shameful matchmaking

Posted July 19, 2014 9:47 am

Boxtradamus

BANG! Dead ON pick! EARLY KO just like I predicted! While there never was a doubt who would WIN its the MANNER of the prediction that makes me so GREAT!! I am the GREATEST fight prophet EVER born!!!
