“Thurman doesn’t have the Boxing SKILLS to beat Brook. ”

Hate to say it but I agree with Boxtradamus–whichever one this is. Kell Brook is a highly skilled boxer with a devastatingly accurate jab and one of the best straight rights in the business. Brook will find Thurman’s chin all night.

Braza, I think Porter is a good young fighter but after blowing out Malignaggi he had a number of guys jumping on the bandwagon and declaring him “GREAT” yes Tark and Co literally called him that for beating a crafty vet who had been stopped before… Porter looked very amateur in spots lunging and swinging wildly while Brook began to time him coming in..My point is that keeping these younger fighters in proportion is necessary because they have little vetting..

Both Porter and Brooke both used Bernard Hopkins dirty tactics. Porter used his head aas a Ramball and Brooke feakin grab and hold the whole fight.

See you are looking at a Maidana that did not have Garcia in his corner. If Maidana were to rematch Alexander or Khan I think Maidana wins by KO. They don’t want to rematch Maidana. Heck if a fighter wins a couple of rounds against Floyd many of you Floyd haters consider that a success. That speaks volumes.

Puerto Rican Gabriel Rosado Knocks Out Mexican Brian Vera, hit’s him with a straight Right after a perfect Jab and drops him flat on his face.. Vera gets up Wobbly and does the Mexican Version of Zab Juddas Noodle Dance, falling into the arms of the Ref and the fight is stopped… Not even Big 180+lb Chavez Jr. could drop or hurt Brian Vera… LOL

Its not good when u have to validate a Floyd s opponent by using his performance against Floyd to do that its nit good for floyd. See what I mean . I think porter beats maidana after all he bet up devon who schooled marcos . And after last night which was his first time at the elite level I certainly think brook beats maidana . Very impressed kell last night . Porter is a top fighter who brought it but kell had an answer for everything he did

Good for brook

Posted August 17, 2014 2:27 pm

Livershot

Well the head first bull rush of Porter was out classed and out boxed by Brook. Once Brook got Porters timing down he picked his shots the rest of the night. Nothing was ever told to Porter for blows to the back of Brooks head all night. Brook held a bit more but did so to avoid getting head butted and tackled by Porters charge. Porter is use to overwhelming his opponents and this time it didn’t happen. He was busier but not effective busy. Cleaner shots landed by Brook. Brook vs Kahn in the UK possible in Dec. Thurman was in the crowd but not sure if his shoulder will be ready by then.

I watched the fight on YT when I got home from work on my computer, and on a telecast that was not in English. I wanted Brook to win, but felt that Porter’s bull like style overwhelmed Brook, forcing him to hold while Porter was even landing punches during that time. I had Porter winning 8-4, though could have reasonably seen the fight a draw. It is interesting how all over the web there are opinions that Brook was so masterful or that Brook was just holding all the time.

what a F’n collision of styles Dirrell v. Bika turned out to be(?!). i barely enjoyed it with all the reffing and roughhousing that distinguished this bout. Dirrell still managed to look impressive. he seriously Dinged and Stung Bika several times during their bout. there’s some newly-tested comp at 168lbs and Dirrell looks dangerous.

meanwhile, that was no “miracle” KO by Figueroa. he was obviously setting it up from the bell. it was his version of desperation-KO mode because that cut was nasty. even in the midst of his finishing rain of punches it began bleeding and he wasn’t even being hit(?!). solid, legacy-defining win for Figueroa v. a tough boxer who didn’t hesitate to punch.

it might be harsh but I saw shades of “Left Hook” Lacy in Porter’s defeat last night(?). fortunately, welter is Loaded with plenty of more-obliging competition. it’s not as if just anybody could execute the fight-plan that Brook did last night: jab, clinch, counter, and lead. that was impressive. Porter was taken to boxing school last night.

Porter was missing lots and was very sloppy. A lot of his work was hitting arms and gloves. Brook came into the fight in the second half and clearly won a lot of those rounds with sharper, scoring shots.

I had brook up by two but was surprised he got the decision. I thought the judges were going to favour Porter.

Nope no skewing any facts. I am speaking the truth. Notice how Morales beat Pac and Pac beat Morales after he was coming off a loss to Zahir Raheem and Morales never looked the same. And yeah he beat some fighters later in his career coming back from retirement. But that is from the skills and technique he learned as a fighter. Fighters these days aren’t taught correctly. As for Barrera look and see what outside issues he had. He didn’t even know if the commissions were going to ban him because of his head surgery. And his training camp getting moved because of the huge forest fires. Not saying Pac wouldn’t of won but there are still issues behind them.

Morales beat Pac when he was closer to his prime, Pac beat Morales when he was out of his prime. He did not beat Barrera in his prime. As a matter of fact, with everything going on with Barrera during his 2 fights with Pac, it was crazy he fought at all. He wasn’t even sure he was gonna get the fight because the commission was saying they may not let him fight because Barrera had surgery on his head from a motorcyle accident or thats what was reported. Then he had to move training camps because of the forest fires near where he trained at. And I felt Pac did beat Marquez the first 2 times but people are split on those fights and Marquez clearly beat him the 3rd time and KO Pac the 4th time.

i scroll through these comments and all is see is may weathers name… madness,, mayweather is a circus show, his fights are all about the pre match hype, the guy doesn’t put it on the line for fight fans, as soon as someone starts to fight him, he goes against the ropes and basically raises his shoulder and almost touches the floor with his head until the ref breaks them apart… i hate mayweather fights, as besides a few flashy pot shots, u never see a proper war… he relies heaviy on the ref to break up things when it gets messy, and he uses elbows a hell of a lot. i know he has his loyal fans, each to their own.. but me personally, i look forward until the guy retires for good….

Floyd’s legacy is secured. Deal with it. Nip picking doesn’t make him any less an ATG. And unlike Pacquiao, Floyd fought his opponents when they were winning, not after they lost. And Aligeri is the worst cherrypicked opponent anyone whom is suppose to be a top fighter has picked, which Pacquiao has done. Cherrypicked or not, all of Floyd’s competition were champions, HOF’s, undefeated until they fought him, or at least earned a name for themselves first. And old ass Mosley and Oscar ducked Floyd for years before finally fighting him, and both on their terms, not Mayweather’s . So blame them if anything, and they were still winning before they fought Mayweather at the time. But keep crying.

It’s a shame cause I like everything about Porter apart from how he punches, I also think that Porter makes anyone look bad, he’d give anyone a hard night at 147, bull-like, Kell done well to get through that, only 2nd fight away from from home.

Posted August 17, 2014 8:35 am

KOrnerman

Tudors I though he would have got the hometown decision for those reasons, aggression and punch output but thank god there was knowledgeable judges there seeing what was ;landing, which was virtually nil for Porter although to the casual observer it looked like he was bossing the fight.

Posted August 17, 2014 8:30 am

Ingleberry

Fair enough. Not sure everyone on ESB is that committed but I get your point.

Posted August 17, 2014 8:29 am

KOrnerman

He should consider another coach, Is it not his dad that trains him? he’s maybe not the most knowledgeable of guys to train how to throw punches, he’s maybe a great fitness strength coach but someone needs to teach the kid how to throw a straight shot, it would have been a travesty if one of those flailers had caught Brook and hurt him, the guy is raw for a pretty experienced pro.

Posted August 17, 2014 8:27 am

Tudors

Perhaps this is the reason “Brook landed 36% of his 441 punches, while Porter connected with just 25% of his 626 shots.” but at least we can see who threw more.

Posted August 17, 2014 8:23 am

KOrnerman

I do think Porter is a bad opponent for anyone the way he fights IS hard to beat, if he shot straight instead of flailing he’d be real good.

Posted August 17, 2014 8:21 am

Tark. Is porter still a legend in the making like Lara.

Posted August 17, 2014 8:21 am

INSIDER TRADING

Porter is actually more one-dimensional than I first suspected. His attempts to do a Mike Tyson wee laughable as he kept coming in hands down and face up. If Kell had taken a step to either side he would have been able to crack away at Porter’s noggin. If you can ride the storm for a few rounds Porter can be outboxed soundly.

Posted August 17, 2014 8:19 am

KOrnerman

Tudors , jumping in head first and flailing your arms around vigorously IS NOT BOXING, what kell was doing WAS BOXING. the only things good about Porter i seen was good upper body movement and quick feet and a high workrate but very limited technically, Kell boxed him and won, its hard too look offensive against relentless pressure albeit non effective.

Posted August 17, 2014 8:16 am

INSIDER TRADING

Tark saw things in Porter that none of us believed. His thrashing of Malignaggi was a red herring as Paulie was really at the end of his thread and had absorbed lots of punishment vs Broner, Hatton, Khan and Cotto. It all caught up to him. The real insiders looked at Porter vs Diaz and other fights that clearly showed he was part of the pack rather than head and shoulders above them. I would like to give Tark a break as I think Porter is tight at the weight, but I won’t as Tark has criticised the likes of Hearns for being dead at the weight vs Leonard and others for not doing a proper camp. Tark has recently been seduced by Canelo, Lara, Porter, Thurman and Trout.

Posted August 17, 2014 8:16 am

Brooks clearly won the fight. If the ref let brook hold then there’s no controversy is there ? Porters aggression was stopped with the clinching, he was left to flounder around and get hit by brook’s sweet 1-2! Even so I expected porter to get the decision

The crowd kept trying to boo out the British fans when they were cheering on Kell but you could still hear them even though they were outnumbered by 10-1, but that’s how us Brits support our guys, the Americans could have cheered on their guy a bit more than they did, as soon as they seen him taking a beating they jump off the band wagon quicker than you can say lickedy split.

Posted August 17, 2014 8:13 am

Tudors

I cannot take away the fact that porter was dirty but if the ref had have made more noise about that perhaps would have helped calm that stuff down, but he didn’t, he just left them too it! I have already said that Porter did not look good but come on! he still fought every minute of every round, I know Kell boxed better but he didn’t do anything that looked anything like a full on offensive! it’s the lack of effort with a offensive that disappointed me about Kell not his skills, in my opinion it was all defensive with the occasional counter shots but no full on offensive! sorry guys I can only say it how I see it and how I see it is that Kell should have done more to take the title.

@ Tudors – not one judge or commentator scored the fight for Porter. Why don’t you ask one of them to explain it to you.

Posted August 17, 2014 7:54 am

Tudor
Was porters aggression effective? No.
Were brooks punches clean and effective? Yes. Look at the state of porters face.
Wtf did porter really do that was effective apart from making noise stomping his foot and land some of his “power punches” to the back of kells head, and when I say power maybe not so much.

Porter made 100% effort, you have to take the title remember, what did Kell do to take the title? yes porter was sloppy but he put in the effort you expect from top level fighter, Kell did not take the title, and I make Khan a clear favorite against Kell unless Khan gives him a open shot and he gets KO’d, otherwise I think Khan takes him to pieces.

BTW, Porter was straight garbage. Fouled 100’s of times. Awful to watch. Beating up on a small welterweight in Paulie Malignaggi does not a superstar make.

Brook held so much it looked like ball-room dancing. And his power is a joke. What’s worse, Porter looked like a flailing idiot. Glad I handicapped today’s races after the 4th round.

Always fun to see over confident Yanks get it completely wrong. You guys are brought up to believe that you’re very special, despite the evidence to the contrary. Open your eyes and your minds once in a while and see what is in front of you. Well done Brook. Obviously I’m not talking about all Americans, just the dumb ones.

Rob smith I really think you should write articles for another sport, everytime I read an article of yours I here roger in the back round saying” most people” yea you know the rest , I had brook winning 7 to 5 again you can’t give a guy credit for fighting that sloppy, clean affective punching is the name of the game not smother and throw

Posted August 17, 2014 7:38 am

Tudors

Just got finished watching the fight and lets get some stuff out of the way, was porter scrappy yes! did porter hit to the back of the heads lots of times yes! now before I say anything else let me just mention another fight Austin Trout VS Saul Alvarez a fight which I think Austin Trout won, but it was a open scoring fight and rather than give the win to the more skilled fighter they gave it to the aggressor, difference being to this fight is that Austin Trout put in a lot of effort before being robbed in my opinion, the word for the day is EFFORT!!! Shaun Porter did not looked good but he worked his ass off every single round yet I did not see one Kell Brook flurry or any kind of major offensive in his suspect win over porter, I am trying to think of reasons why Kell was able to given a majority win, seriously what did Kell do to take the title? really there is no money in a Khan Porter fight is there, but a all british super fight now it starts to make sense, I am with the author on this one, and I am from the UK by the way.

Of course Tark is a fantasist. If he just admitted he was a fan who liked boxing he could be respected. But his BS about having been an amateur star and having a pro career and having successfully trained boxers to elite level is not being a fantasist it’s being just sad really. The idea you would have all of that to your name but wouldn’t post any links to it is just sad and funny, but mostly sad. What could anyone do with his ABA and boxrec records? Steal him money through embezzlement?? I don’t like it when people lie about having been boxers, or worked in boxing. I find it quite offensive.

Onwards and upwards for kell now onto better things, I really hope he pies khan off…altho it wud be funny to see him get splatted!

He is in a dilemma. Stay at 147 and be tight OR. move up and give up inches to guys like the Charlo brothers?

Posted August 17, 2014 6:23 am

TJ

VERY TELLING THAT Porter’s corner did not celebrate after the fight, but looked downcast and dejected.

He started like a whirlwind, but the storm blew out after 4 or so rounds. I have never been convinced by his rushing tactics as he rushes in with his hands by his waist – a little like the idiotic tactics of Luis Collazo vs Khan!

I would not be surprised if Porter moves up to 154 with immediate effect, but he will be at the mercy of the likes of Lara and Canelo.

He is in a dilemma. Stay at 147 and be tight to move up and give up inches to guys like the Charlo brothers?

Posted August 17, 2014 6:18 am

1903

It was closer than two of the scorecards suggested but Brook took it by a couple of rounds in my opinion. Porter took an early lead but became more and more ineffective as the rounds went by. By the second half of the fight he was rushing in head first fouling and swinging wild punches that were mostly catching Brook on the arms. Well deserved win for Brook as he stayed composed and stuck to his boxing.

Which bellend authorised this drivel to put on the main screen, this kind of posting should go on the forums section and not as a main article, my view as a Brook fan was that I thought Porter won it by a round or two due to the early rounds but I knew it was close.

Posted August 17, 2014 6:09 am

Rob – not Smith

I have written a few articles for ESB in the past and feel ashamed of Rob Smith’s contribution.
What impressed me every bit as much as Brook’ s performance were the scorecards returned by the American judges. Rewarding skills and clean shots rather than a simple come- forward aggressive style was a credit to boxing.
I believe Shawn Porter has potential to add more to his game and return a better fighter. If his team are able to get beyond blinkered bias, watch the tapes, hopefully he will add some punch variety and head movement.

Posted August 17, 2014 5:51 am

Rob you should NEVER be allowed write a boxing article again. Brook schooled a limited fighter in Porter for 12 rounds. If u can’t see that then u shouldn’t be writing articles. Period..Now f cuk off

So long as ESB continues to publish this kind of thing, so long will it be a joke. This place has just become a place where fans meet to argue with one another. Most of the so-called “writers” are beneath contempt.

Brook stood tall and effectively boxed the aggressive porter… Porter needs an uppercut in his arsenal he’s able to get inside but only winging shots instead of firing off uppercuts… He probably would of hurt brook badly with an uppercut but props to brook he landed the cleaner shots point blank

INSIDER TRADING

TARK HAD PORTER WINNING

Tark will wriggle his way out of this as he puts more spin on his own comments than a political spin doctor. Simple fact is Tark was wrong, no matter what excuse he gives.

Furor Teutonicus

TARK is a fantasist, plain and simple. He’s best ignored.

Posted August 17, 2014 4:47 am

The Prince

Great fights as of late. With this card, good job by Brook to upset Porter. The fight reminded me a lot of Lewis vs Tyson. Lewis calm and collected, countering effectively. Porter aggressive, wild, and leaving himself wide open. Porter like many fighter after scoring a lot of knockout, get spoiled and didn’t have plan B. And good job by Anthony Dirrell, despite the pesky ref.

Posted August 17, 2014 4:46 am

INSIDER TRADING

So, Tark the so-called boxing trainer got sucked into all the hype about Porter. Tut tut. Yep. Your excuse of him being tight at the weight is valid, but you don’t give ground on that to the likes of Hearns being tight as a drum vs Sugar Ray. Porter must now go into your list with Canelo, Trout and Lara who are not quite as good as you thought they were.

Brook’s a brilliant fighter. A proper welterweight puncher who could knock out guys all the way up to 160 if he had to. This is his big moment. Don’t think he’ll let it slip away from him. He’ll pressure Porter bully him and once Porter feels the power he’ll lose his edge like ninety nine percent of Brook’s opponents do.

Good fight from Kell and I am disappointed from Porters performance, he was detered from a jab.As a pro with amateur pedigree, he should have handled that.Kell did what he had to do against a rugged good fighter and had no chance than to tie him up.Good tactics and Kell deserves the nod.Skills pay bill.He was more skillful and Porter was not able to adapt and switch his style.

Bill Patrice Jones

In my opinion Brook is an excellent fighter. Very tough, perfectly built for welterweight and a fierce puncher. This is his big opportunity. Porter is undoubtedly a big step up for Brook and this is a case of Kell either fulfilling his potential and rising to another level on the occasion, or realising that his peak has been reached and Porter is a step above. This fight’s about Brook. If he’s calm, controlled, doesn’t make excitable mistakes and gives a perfect performance he may very well shock many people.

Posted August 17, 2014 4:14 am

Bill Patrice Jones

I think Jim Watt will be fired by the end of next year. He can’t just keep scoring fights for the viewer this inaccurately and sounding so miserable. When young fans start watching boxing they pay very very close attention to the views and scorecards given by the commentary team. When I was 12 I thought HBO and compubox were infallible, probably because they were American and had that air of glamour that there wasn’t here in the UK. Eventually you realise the nuances and complicated nature of the fight game and scoring fights. So Jim Watt has to go I’m afraid

Posted August 17, 2014 3:58 am

elbilly

What a shock the Brit hating writer gives no credit to Kell for outboxing a guy who tried to bum rush all night and was gassed after 5 rounds. I heard before the fight that Porter was taking the fight lightly and trained for 4-5 rounds but could not believe a champion would be so arrogant and disrespectful of a class operator and he got what he deserved, get in Kell, suck it you haters!

Posted August 17, 2014 3:56 am

Mr b

I’ve watched the fight twice now I thought the first time was close but the second time I turned the volume down because that jim watt talks a load of crap and brook wins with cleaner crisper shot s 3-1 up in the first 4 rounds and cruised to victory comfortably from round 6, and khan you will get sparked out no doubt about it haha

Posted August 17, 2014 3:54 am

Freddie Roach Ate My Hamster

Well I was wrong. I said that to win on points Brook would need to fight more like Herrol Graham and less like Junior Witter. He fought like Witter on his best nights and neutralised Porter. It will be interesting to see if Porter sticks with his dad and learns a Plan B or goes elsewhere for one after this. I like him but he was one dimensional up against a boxer who’d clearly studied him.

What the f*ck fight did this writer watch? Brook had Porter on the backfoot in the second half of the fight, he had his face marked up like crazy and landed all the really good punches in an ugly fight. Porter just kept charging in without throwing more than maybe one punch. A very close fight for sure because the styles didn’t gel. But Brook looked very strong down the stretch and his timing was excellent. Good judging and very composed performance away from home by Brook. As For Gavern? If I was him I would have come out for the 5th and earned myself the distinction of being the ONLY man to last more than 4 rounds with Wilder, quitting at some point during that round

Mayweather is a GRAND MASTER BOXER !!!!

Thurman and brooks are about the same style both are boxers, might be a boring fights, nobody leading Even. LOL…. But khan want brooks or the winner if Floyd not games, he just said so.

The1 ,
So how about brooks vs Thurman wouldn’t you want to see that fight and find out who is better opponent for either mayweather or paqiao ?

Posted August 17, 2014 2:26 am

Fight Aficionado

Guys talking Thurman-Brook. I think Thurman’s more than a slugger and could win that. Porter’s aggressive but he just plods around winging random punches that don’t have the starch of Thurman, who is one of the premier KO punchers today.

Posted August 17, 2014 2:22 am

Mike Tyson

pactards r us, and remember Floyd had two fight with maidana a slugger and can’t get a UD yet.

Adrien, can you read? Calm your chub for Thurman and read slow. I said Porter would be a better fight at this point. I like him but not enough to be blinded. Mayweather would beat Thurman apart right now. I get you are the Thurman voice but be realistic. Like i said… i like him too.

Posted August 17, 2014 2:20 am

Kell Brook will just get better now, he will go up a few levels after that, excellent fighter, very tough to beat him now.

The CHAMPS at Welter are Mayweather, Pacquiao, and Brook..IF Brook wants to unify I suggest he starts with Pacquiao.

BS… algieri has no power for Pac to fear and hes not as fast or skilled. So how in the hell would he pull that off? Pac won’t be there to be hit like Provi. And pac will land, alot on Algeri.

Thurman too green for brooks????? Hahahahaha …. Typical
How is Thurman more “green”then porter when he ko Diaz who draw with Porter? Thurman is not ” too green” but too dangerous and that’s a problem for fans

Posted August 17, 2014 2:16 am

pactards r us. That what I been saying. Alegre is a boxer, many say pc can’t fight boxers, so this is a test, but what happen if PAC beat ageria in a easy U.D. That mean man y has a really good chance of beating Floyd that were not going to see. It’s works two ways.

Posted August 17, 2014 2:16 am

Tomato Can- It might just be that Khan now needs Brook after snubbing him so much. Brook was very smart in calling out Thurman, but he would be smarter if he fought Khan next. Thurman and Brook could decide who goes first in line after May and Pac, but Khan is a good payday and I agree with you, at some point Brook would hurt him. The ref might just have to use a hose to separate them, though.

Posted August 17, 2014 2:15 am

Do not forget, Brook won the fight travelling, that is a big plus for Kell Brook, not just he won, he fought Shawn Porter, who was very highly thought of and beat him in his own backyard.

Shawn Porter looked exactly was he was a glorified “sparring partner”

To call his brawling swarming headbutting tactics like early days Dennis Andries would be a insult to the ex Light Heavy Kronk Champion

Andries packed up his kit and had the good sense to ask Manny Stewart to teach him how to box

Porter is finished
He is in the “who needs him club”

Brook is pretty awesome.. it would be interesting to see him in there with pac or May. Thurman is too Green. He has the ability to do it all in the future but his chances would be better against porter than pac., May or brook.

Posted August 17, 2014 2:11 am

Big Rich

Also… you can give Brook credit for dealing with the pressure. Apart from Maidana there aren’t many top WW that fight similar to Porter.
So I think that all we learnt is that both fighters have a future and that whoever Brook faces next it will be a different style of fight.
Brook will beat Khan, struggle with Thurman. but to be honest you can’t put him in the Mayweather or Pacman class until he deals with the next level of WW. There is Bradley, JMM, Provodnikov, Alexander. Plenty of pickings before you think about Mayweather or Pacman.

115-113 for Brook,,that is siding with Porter as he was the home fighter, really probably 116-112 for Brook, Kell Brook won the fight, that was the way I saw it.

The British judge had it even, 114-114, the others had it 117-111, it was 115-113, good away win for Brook.

Cleaner shots were from Brook. Porter smothered a lot of his work by getting too close. Brook tied him up, when they got too close and later in the fight adjusted by letting his hands go on the inside. Brook’s jab won the fight for him in the end, it was a clear scoring shot

I had the fight 116-112 for Porter. But I gave a couple of the late rounds to Porter, based on his busyness and aggression. I thought Brook deserved the fight. I’m glad one of the Byrd’s were one of the judges, as they always favor ring generalship, clean punches landed over non-effective volume.

Mayweather/Porter is an ugly matchup, Brook/Mayweather is clean boxing match…. Who cares how much Mayweather might catch and pot shot Porter, and how many behind the head shots and punches in the clinches Porter would land. That’s un appealing… Beside’s Porter won’t get past this loss for another year or so, if he’s lucky. By then Mayweather will be just about gone.

Also, anyone who fight’s Porter is going to hold a lot. That is unless, they’re stupid. You gotta keep Porter on the outside, nail him, and tie him up on the inside. That’s just the way it is.

Mayweather would catch Porter coming in more than Brook DID as he’s the most accurate puncher in the Sport. Brook has more SKILLS and therefore he has the better chance of beating Floyd but thats not saying alot as Porter has about a 1% chance and Brook has a 2% chance.

This continues the problems of Victor Conte clients… Andre Berto.. Eddie Chambers.. Nonito Donaire.. Edwin Rodriquez … and now Shawn Porter.

Shawn needs to get rid of that Hyperbolic Oxygen Chamber and the supplements that this convicted felon is supplying him with… That stuff is going to screw him up.. He didn’t look sharp.. He actually looked sloppy … I thought the crowd would be more vociferous for Shawn and he would be more energized – but it was the sloppiness and overanxious demeanor he displayed. Brook was a cooler customer tonight.

The fight went the way I envisioned. I thought it would be close and hard to score. I had Brook winning 115-113. He was able to keep the fight on the outside more than I thought he would. Shawn didn’t attack behind the jab like he did with Malignaggi and Alexander. Brook was able to fight his fight more than Porter.

I would like to see Brook KO Khan and then get a Mayweather fight. It’s about time Floyd faced an opponent like this.

Porter lost every round. His aggression was mot effective. Just rabbit punching because nothing else was working. That one judge should not be judging any fights and some of these fans are just as blind .

Ok.. now the Brits running things is a bit outstanding…

Flashy Flav that doesn’t justify about 30 rabbit punches by Porter. Nor does it justify Porter using his head like a battering ram and holding Brook in head locks.

Congra brooks, I was busy earlier so just read all the live comments, and it seems that porter was leading the first half or more with a lot of body punches and brooks edge the last few rounds? And it’s was brook pro coolness that won the fight?

i get the feeling they both about even and wasn’t a exciting fight. Guess we wanted a ko Of somebody.
they should have given a draw, as it’s doesn’t seem porter was beaten.
Even in points , but wild compared to brook style. Strange fight.

It is impossible to look good against Saiko Bika … but I thought Anthony Dirrell looked as good as would be possible against a very awkward fighter.

Bika vs. Dirrell II was an ugly fight — but I think it helped Dirrell grow and develop and become a better tougher fighter.

Whereas in the first fight, Dirrell was being pushed back by Bika and did not stand-up to the pressure. In this fight, Dirrell was smarter, he was sharper, he was faster, he attacked, and he held when he had to hold.

Good win for Dirrell and I hope we don’t have to see wrestlers like Bika or Shawn Porter again. Bika and Porter belong on ESPN.

When a wrestler shows up for a boxing match, the wrestler should lose.

And in my mind that is what happened.

I gave Porter 2 rounds. The Showtime announcers are idiots. The fight was not close. The rules say, “clean effective punches, effective aggressiveness, ring generalship with again an emphasis on clean effective punching.”

I think Porter landed maybe 2 clean punches in the entire fight.

The fight was not close. Brook won easily.

Bika 5-7 Dirrell – Dirrell landing nice shots. Bika overhand right. Dirrell lands and Bika holds. Trading jabs. Dirrell a couple of nice rights.

115-111 for Dirrell. Dirrell definitely did a little more to win it.

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Bika 5-6 Dirrell – Bika needs to go all out. Dirrell nice defence. Bika double jab. Dirrell has stopped. Both guys leaning on each other. Bika nice jab and right. Dirrell on ropes Bika landing. Dirrell tries to nick it in the last 10 sec. Not for me though.

Posted August 16, 2014 10:56 pm

107-101 for Dirrell, IMO. Bika needs a KO.

Bika 4-6 Dirrell – Again the lead right lands. Dirrell over balances and Bika walks over him. Bika working in close. Bika jabs and Dirrell lands to the back of the head. Lead right by Bika lands. Bika scores in close. Bika putting on pressire now. Maybe Bika on work rate.

Bika 3- 6 Dirr – Left hook by Dirrell. Big rights by Dirrell. Bika hurt but recovers. Bika jabs. Bika gets Dirrell on the ropes. Dirrell falls over and Bika hits him on the way down. Dirrell milking it a bit. Should be a knockdown technically. Nice right by Dirrell. Dirrell can pace this fight now for the win.

Posted August 16, 2014 10:48 pm

BP

Bika should fieng a low blow and take a rest for a few minutes, like Hopkins did against Calzaghe, don’t get stopped that way, but still lose the fight, on points and morally.

Posted August 16, 2014 10:45 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Bika 3-5 Dirrell – Nice left by Dirrell. Good body by Sika. Bika throws a low shot, borderline. Taking a point off Bika. This is BS bias against Bika by the ref and commentators. Can only imagine the judging. Now Bika has fired up. All over Dirrell. Dirrell doesn’t need the help he is in control. Big right by Dirrell hurts Bika. More wrestling as Bika throws Dirrell to the canvas. Bika landing hard on Dirrell against the ropes. Dirrell 10-8.

Posted August 16, 2014 10:44 pm

Bika 3-4 Dirr – Big right by Dirrell landed. He’s got a home for that straight right. Both landed rights. Another right kland for Dirrell. Good body shot by Bika. Both working in close. Bika using his head. Dirrell has found a rythym with that right. It’s winning him the fight now.

Bika 3-3 Dirrell – Both scored with lefts. Lead right by Dirr. Bika close in right. Nice right by Dirr. Left by Bika. Dirrell combo to body. Bika attacks Dirrell counters. Nice body shot by Dirr. Lead right by Dirr. Both trade lefts. Good accurate round by Dirrell.

Bika 3-2 Dirrell – Sneaky left by Dirrell. More wrestling but Bika trying to fight out of it. Nice jab by Bika. Dirrell not throwing much. Bika overhand right lands. Nice left and right by Dirrell. Nice 1-2 Bika then counter by Dirrell. Nice body shot by Dirrell. Bika did better over the 3 minutes or me.

Bika 2-2 Dirrell – It’s settled a bit now. The ref can back off and let them fight now. Trading shots in the middle. Bika landing behind his jab. Nice right by Direll. Bika actually out jabbing Dirrell. Now the ref is onto Dirrell. 2 punches land by Bika. Bika landing on Dirrell against the ropes. Better round for Bika.

Posted August 16, 2014 10:27 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Bika 1-2 Dirr – Ref is on Bika case but Dirrell is just as dirty and instigating a lot of it. Nice uppercut from Bika. Bika hit off balance. Dirrell needs to stick to boxing if he brawls he will lose this. Nice jabs by Dirr. 2 good rights by Dirr. Bika getting in close but smothering himself. Bika landing on Dirrell against the ropes. Dirrell nicks it.

Posted August 16, 2014 10:23 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Bika 1-1 Dirrell – Very stop start. Throwing and clinching from both guys. Dirrell getting off first. Ref told them they both look like poo. Wild rubbish swing by Bika.

Bika 1-0 Dirrell – Straight into it. Wild swings. WOW this is a wrestling match. Both trying to establish who is stronger. Ref actually doing well to control it. Dirrell loading up with his right. A lot of adrenaline being burnt in this fight could work against Dirrell as Bika is super fit. Bika knocked Dirrell down and the ref called it a slip. Bika finished stronger.

Bika can be hurt but his recovery powers are top class and it fires him up too.

This next one should be good. If Dirrell can keep his range, he should win by possible stoppage. That’s a big if though.

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

I don’t know what Wilder is banging on about. Gavern outboxed him for 3 out of 4 rounds. If he wasn’t so out of shape due to the 6 days notice he wouldn’t of gone down so easily from the shots that landed. Wilder is in trouble when he steps in with a legitimate Top 10 HW. Even in this ordinary era.

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Fig 5-3 Est – Fig back to pressuring. Nice double left by Fig. Est tieing Fig up in close now. Great scoring flurry by Fig trapping Est on the ropes. Wild looping right misses by Fig. Est nice 3 pounch combo. Fig backed Est to the ropes landing hard. Est lands but isn’t hurting Fig. Fig is cut and Est hurting Fig on the corner. Fig comes back and its now a brawl. Fig gets it for the overall work but Est has his moments.

Posted August 16, 2014 9:48 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Fig 4-3 Est – I don’t like Fig as a southpaw. Est lands a couple of uppercuts. Est boxing well but when Fig lands it looks more damaging. Est fighting well on the inside. Nice 1-2 from Est. Fig throwing on the ropes but getting smothered. Fig finished strong but not enough for the round.

Posted August 16, 2014 9:44 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Fig 4-2 Est – Sharp left lands for Fig. Fig pressuring again. Fig getting off first. Est low again. no damage. Fig pace is slowing again. Throwing single shots. Now he’s back on him. Fig landed 3 clean shots near the end. Estrada finishes with a flurry but nothing dangerous.

Posted August 16, 2014 9:36 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Fig 3-1 Est – Nice lead right by Fig. Fig landing cleaner now. Est works the jab nice. Fig lands another lead right. Fig mixing it up body and head. Estrada trying hard and has some success but isn’t deterring Fig from coming forward. Both lands jabs. Fig took a bit of a breather in the last minute but still did enough overall.

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Fig 2-1 Est – Est very accurate. Fig is on him always. Estrada hits Fig low square on the jewels. Fig taking his time. Fig nice left high right body. Estrada cant get a break. Fig is jumping on him. Nice left hook by Est. Fig lands a left body. Right cros by Fig puts Est on the ropes. Both guys trade to the body but Fig lands up top. Now Est lands a combo up top. Good fight. Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Fig 1-1 Est – Nice uppercut by Est. Fig seems to be loading up too much. Est picking off scoring shots. Fig is relentless on the pressure and it pays off with some shots but then eats counters. Nice left uppercut by Fig. left hook by Fig. Est giving as good as he gets. Fig needs to use his jab when attacking instead of eating shots on the way in. I liked Figs generalship and power but only just.

Fig 0-1 Est – Estrada is a lnky guy. Right by Fig. Estrada establishing a jab. Fig gone southpaw already. Est nice combo. Fig unleashes trapping Est on ropes. Est picking off scoring shots. Fig lands a hard shot snapping back Est head. Est getting the best of a final exchange and nicks it.

I had picked Porter to win. But after seeing the Porter Diaz replay last night I am not so sure. Porter rushes in recklessly and forgets about defense. I think Pauli and Alexander were tailor made for Porter. Alexander is always defensive minded and when pressured, can be easily outworked. Pauli has no power, so Porter was not worrying about getting countered. However, if Porter rushes in recklessly against Brook he could be in for a lot of trouble.

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

I tell you something. If Gavern was given a normal camp he could of won that fight. Take away the knock downs and Gavern won 3 of those rounds. Still it is what it is, another stoppage by Wilder. Anyone that watched it would not be impressed. In fact I think it would give Stiverne extra confidence. Wilder looked a little lost at how to combat Gavern getting in low and close.

Posted August 16, 2014 7:45 pm

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Wilder 3-1 Gav – Gavern lands left right. WIlder lands a counter left. Gavern lands to the body. Nice combo by Gavern finishing with a left to the head. Wilder knocks Gavern down but he isn’t hurt. Gavern to the body. Gavern turning his head so much those Wilder shots hitting him behind the ear. Nice jabs by Wilder. Nice left by Wilder. Big right from Wilder. Wilder gets a combo in.

Gavern is knackered. Corner stops fight.

Hey, That’s My Bike!!!

Wild 2-1 Gav – Gavern lands a right behind his jab. Gavern to the body. Wilder stiff jab. Gavern attacks again gets in close. Gavern landing shots but no power. Wilder is posing not doing much at all. Then he lands a right. Gavern down more from tiredness than a shot. Still a knockdown it is. Unfortunate because Gavern was winnig that round.

Posted August 16, 2014 7:38 pm

Wilder 1-1 Gavern – Gavern on the attack. Wilder loads up a right. Wilder tries a 1-2. Gavern gets in close body then head. Gavern repeats. Straight right by Wilder. Wilder 1-2. Gavern fights back. Geez Wilder might have nicked it. Gavern tiring as expected already.

Wild 0-1 Gav – Gavern lands a looping right. Gavern explodes with a left right. Wilder has a nice sharp jab. Gavern lands another right. Then goes the body.
