According to this writer,Trout has already won the fight so, why should Cotto even show up for the fight??!!

Hidalgo do you hear me using “state of mind” as an excuse for a loss of beatdown? Its all part of something called preparation see your therapist, once you get in the ring if another mans fist coming at your skull does not keep you focused then SHAME on you…

Posted November 1, 2012 9:28 pm

“….”State of mind is subjective” and only discussed by those who lose bouts” Oh, I get it. Only your version is right.

Posted November 1, 2012 9:12 pm

Margo getting KOed by Mosley is a PEFECTLY legitimate result all else are excuses… Buster Douglas Mom had died and he pulled off the biggest upset in boxing history… Margarito came to the ring that night and got blown out plain and simple…. Mosley had distractions too he was getting divorced, financial issues and he was slated to LOSE instead him waxed Tony something awful and thus ends the story….”State of mind is subjective” and only discussed by those who lose bouts

Posted November 1, 2012 4:34 pm

RaidR

@Tark I can’t sit idly by and not comment on the lack of context in which you criticize Margarito’s KO at the hands of Mosley. The context in which I speak of is that Margarito was not in the right frame of mind. I dare say even you should know boxing is 70% mental, and not more then a few minutes before Margarito entered the ring, his world unfolded with the loaded glove accusation. Of course he got KO’d his mind was not on the fight at hand, but on whether or not his career has come to a screeching halt. You completely either overlook this fact, or omit it entirely to bolster your claim. Either you’re a novice of boxing, or a result of reality TV, and simply are that stupid!

on a given night Emmanuel would tear you up. If you ask Floyd who gave him the hardest fight up until Cotto he’ll tell you Emmanuel Agustus. Where am I going with this Emmanuel had a boat load of losses. Just sometimes didn’t show up. Cotto shows up all the time. Got bricked one time and was depleated of all muscle tone the next. The other loss was to an ATG.

Is this the same trout that looked terrible against the very limmited rodriguez? Give me a break, Cotto is the more talented and better fighter. Cotto beats him pretty easily.

I read the first 1 1/2 paragraphs and came to the conclusion that this is, beyond doubt, the worst boxing article I have seen in years.

Cotto by KO, Trout fought nowhere near the calibre of Cotto, like when he beat overratedForeman.

Posted November 1, 2012 7:31 am

SREDMOND

Part of the reason that alot of neophytes love to sell Cotto short is because of the theory that he was damaged beyond repair by a loaded up Tony Margarito… TRUTH is that we have no idea if Tony was loaded that night, and evidence suggests that Cotto has rebounded well despite losses to fighters that would have beat him no matter what day of the month… (peak form Pacquiao and masterboxer Floyd Mayweather Jr)…. Ever since that day everyone harps on about him getting hit with “bricks” blah blah blah…. He ended the night on his own accord and he was not laid out like Hatton, I have seen worse… Cotto is a force who has gotten leather on every man he fought…Cotto has more KO’s than this Trout has wins he’s not coming to lose at the Garden…

Posted November 1, 2012 5:49 am

SREDMOND

Tark, you try to use the fact that Pac Man broke his face to show he is NOT tough?? In what world does that actually sell? The reality is that fighting thru horrid pain, and injuries during a fight you are HOPELESSLY behind in shows you are hard as hell… We have seen guys like Ortiz quit multiple times due to the pain… Whereas a Crazy Bastard like Margo kept rolling and that PART of the reason he fcked up Cotto first time around despite taking clean head shots OVER and OVER…. Canelo is way more skilled but he has never shown the kind of machismo that Margo has in the ring…

Posted November 1, 2012 5:44 am

SREDMOND

Tark BLINDLY hates Margarito which is understandable but should NOT interfere with analysis of the situation… Margarito is one of the TOUGHEST fighters in a boxing ring… He did not quit when Manny Pacquiao who was 100 times faster than him started freeswinging and doing career ending damage to his face… He had taken more flush shots than damn near anyone and kept coming from BIG punchers (Cintron, Cotto) We know he tried to cheat Shane but the reality is that Canelo has not shown he is close to as tough at Margarito was during his day…. FACT

Posted November 1, 2012 5:41 am

TARK

I don’t hate anybody and form my opinions objectively.. I don’t like cheaters.. I think that’s true of most people.

Posted November 1, 2012 1:38 am

TARK

JD… You don’t know what the Hell you’re talking about… Cheato was finished the day he was caught cheating… After his scam was busted he couldn’t stop anybody… Sans plaster, old Mosley murdered him, little Pac pounded him, shorty Cotto finished him off.. Where was the power and toughness without the plaster? What a joke.. He didn’t get old.. He got caught.

Posted November 1, 2012 1:33 am

Jack Dempsey

To Tark ,,Canelo is as strong as a middleweight you post ,,well then why is he fighting Welter weights and blown up Jr. welter weights ,,when he fought Mosley ,,Mosley was a shadow of a shadow of himself …Mosley had nothing left ,even his punching power was gone .. you post that Margarito was not tough,,is that why he took all of Cotto’s bombs and still stop him…I admit that Margarito was finish after the Cotto fight ,,he took to much punishment in winning that fight….

Besides Jake, I don’t mind sticking my neck out and I won’t get sick over being wrong. Austin Trout is a very intelligent, gifted fighter. He certainly is a threat to Miguel Cotto because if he wins, he bumps himself up to a whole new level at the same time pushing Miguel one step closer to retirement.

Posted October 31, 2012 11:41 pm

Hidalgo

“So anyone that thinks that Trout is a threat to Cotto or is going to sweep the canvas with Cotto has no idea who Cotto is.” Well, at least I didn’t say Trout would sweep the canvas with Cotto LOL. But is Trout a threat to Cotto? Sure. It’s boxing, man. It’s also a championship fight.

Posted October 31, 2012 11:38 pm

Jake Lead Rights

Cotto is leaps and bounds better than Trout could ever be, not to mention Cotto has had much better oponents and has been fighting elite fighters longer than Trout has been a pro. Most of Trouts oponents have had losing streaks. His biggest fight was against Delvin. I don’t discredit Delvin I’m just saying thats his biggest fight who are the other guys on his resume’ a bunch of nobodys. Trout has 25 fights Cottos last 25 fights have been contenders and champions. Cottos been hit with bricks and has 30 KO’s, Trout has 14 KO’s and all of them had more losses then wins. So anyone that thinks that Trout is a threat to Cotto or is going to sweep the canvas with Cotto has no idea who Cotto is.

A few weeks ago I said I favored Trout to beat Cotto. To be honest however, I’ve always been an avid Miguel Cotto fan and I hate to underestimate one of my boxing heroes. BUT, I’m sticking with my first call–for now. I may change my mind before the fight happens, but I gotta rewatch a bunch of Trout fights first. One thing I am certain of: When the first round bell rings and Cotto comes storming out of his corner, Austin’s gonna realize he really isn’t that much bigger after all.

Ananymous, I write for this site and I have been a big Miguel Cotto fan since his days when he was sporting the fro at 140 pounds.

I know what you mean though, Anonymous. It almost seemed like it was en vougue for a while to downplay Cotto’s accomplishments in the ring.

This is just my personal theory, but it seems that whenever anyone challenges Floyd Jr, his supporters go insane and start bashing his scheduled opponent or projected opposition.

I’ve never understood why Floydians actually try to discredit Floyd’s opposition? It would seem that if they actually tried to build his opponent’s credibility, then it would actually give his eventual victory more clout.

Oh well.

Agree with Victor. Trout is untested and this a step up. Cotto will walk forward all night long!

It’s a decent fight, respect to Cotto once more and a man amongst the few in the game today!

Cheato isn’t tough… If he was tough his face and eye socket wouldn’t have broken from blows from a much smaller man.. Pacquiao could have knocked Cheato out like Mosley did—but that’s what everyone wanted, including the angry referee..

The crowd wanted revenge.. They wanted Pac to give the cheater the Mosley treatment, and that’s why Pacquiao eased up—out of pity for this wretched, hated, irredeemable, soulless cheater.. Pac had the fight won and didn’t need to cater to the bloodthirsty mob—although that would have been the most popular thing MP could do because this was an “All Thumbs Down” moment.. Even my thumb was down.. I felt the blood lust … I have to admit, Pac is a man of exceptional moral character.

Vitor El Valedor, ViViVi,Viii!!!

Trout is good and because he has an unengaging, technical style he will wont make anyone look good against him, but c’mon stop overrating the guy! Cotto tho smaller is acouple levels higher than Trout. Cotto has filled into the 154 division and looks comfortable there. He still has good thudding power, one of the strongest jabs, and more than enough world class experience to handle an unproven wannabe like Trout. He outclassed one dimensional Rodriguez who was competitive thru out the entire fight nothing spectacular about Trout he’s more bark than bite.

I’d give Margarito the edge in toughness. He withstood Pacquiao’s onslaught for 12 rounds and wouldn’t QUIT. His freakin eye socket was fractured YET he just kept coming. Pacquiao was looking at the ref like “Save this FOOL from HIMSELF!!” while Margarito kept pressing forward right into heavy fire….Canelo would fold and crumble under that type of punishment and he may even CRY. Canelo’s been fed a steady diet of #0 P4P opponents. Lets SEE how tough he IS when he faces some Top 10 P4P competition. Martinez is right there. He called Canelo out before the Chavez Jr. Fight and I haven’t heard a PEEP out of Canelo in response…..Canelo’s SO tough that he ducked fellow CHAMP Bundrage and opted for NON CHAMP Josesito Lopez.

Posted October 31, 2012 5:06 pm

TARK

Sred sez… “Canelo is more talented but he sure as hell is not as tough as Cheato Margarito” .. True.. Canelo’s not AS tough as Cheato—He’s a lot TOUGHER!!! … Mosley knocked Cheato out after making the craven coward flee to the ropes to cover up. Down went the soft chinned cheater. Down and OUT!!! Without his plaster Cheato wasn’t so tough. Canelo on the other hand absorbed everything that the Mighty Mosley could throw at him without even blinking hard. He even sneered at some of the better stuff that got through to him … The Cinnamon Kid’s as tough and strong as a freakin’ middleweight.

Cotto will take a knee again. Cotto to slow and swings to wide. and to say that Cotto gave Mayweather a fight is a fool. Mayweather and Pac are elite Cotto is average.

Posted October 31, 2012 3:56 pm

Canelo looks terrific but AGAIN he has yet to beat a serious threat… Cotto would be a test the likes of which HE has never seen…. Canelo is more talented but he sure as hell is not as tough as Antonio Margarito and the version of Shane Mosley that Cotto fought…Cotto is a MUCH better boxer than people give him credit for, and his ability to compete with the ultra talented Floyd Mayweather spelled that out for those who cared to watch….I like Canelo but who is his best win??? washed up versions of Cintron or Shane Mosley??

Posted October 31, 2012 3:02 pm

SREDMOND

Cotto has ONLY lost to world Champions and ATG’s, Austin Trout does not fit the bill in either regard he is about to experience the skill gap between himself and an elite fighter.. The late, GREAT Manny Steward called the Mayweather/Cotto bout and discussed the reality if this being 2 elite fighters going at it…. Same with Marquez and Pacquiao…. Austin Trout is not gonna be able to deal with a hardened professional fighter of Miguels quality….

Posted October 31, 2012 2:58 pm

Pete R.

I agree that Cotto will lose to Trout. He does not pack the punch to hurt Trout. However, to state that Canelo would have been a better choice is inappropriate. Canelo is stronger, more talented and better groomed than both. After beating Cotto, if Trout fights Canelo it will be back to obscurity for Trout. Sure Canelo gets hit, but his ability to walk through opponents and their punches will be known after that fight. Canelo is pure boxing, barring any unforeseen mishap in his private life, he will take that division into a new paradigm. It will be an era where athleticism, speed, strength and impeccable technique will dominate. He is the first fighter in that weight division possessing all attributes. Mayweather had that earlier in his career in the lighter divisions but Canelo is that now. There is zero chance that Mayweather wants any part of this young man.

Off subject: I’ve been keeping an eye on 18 year old American welterweight Dusty Harrison(unbeaten in 9 & fighting this weekend). Why can’t some of these prospects managers get it together with some of there overseas colleagues & show case them abroad once in a while. I’d like to see this kid in the UK & some of our young guns take a trip to Canada or the USA. The experiance & exposure would be fantastic for them.

When cotto uses his legs while boxing on the backffot he looks very natural and when stalking he’s excellent at cutting off the the ring. I can’t believe esb lets this dribble on the site.

Cotto lost to the two GOAT… Almost everyone discounts Cotto’s loss to Cheato.. The Master of Plaster was easily outboxed for the first 6 rounds—but every plastered punch Cheato landed did 10 times the damage he’s been able to do ever since.. How many KO’s has Cheato Rito added to his resume sans plaster??? ZERO!!!

If Cotto hadn’t had that first Cheato fight—in which he took 100 fights worth of damage—there would be no question about who would win this fight.

Posted October 31, 2012 10:52 am

TARK

Who has Trout ever beaten??? That is the question. Cotto didn’t sell out MSG 6 times by fighting Delvin Rodriguez or Canelo’s untalented older brother, Rigoberto… You have to beat somebody to become a 3-Division World Champion Hokey Smokey…

Cotto is going to stop this nobody OLD school style…. This guy has NEVER faced a fighter with Cotto’s class… If Miguel found a way to compete with Mayweather…. Trouts going home in a body bag….. Cotto beat a VERY tough version of HOFer Shane Mosley who later went on to DESTROY Antonio Margarito…. He beat Josh Clottey who was a HARD out for everyone and has NEVER been stopped with a gaping wound from a butt early in the fight… Anyone who does not respect Cotto’s contribution to boxing this generation is a clown… He lost weight to fight Pac Man and took his beating like a man for 12 full rounds…. Neophytes who don’t know the Cotto story need to lay down…. This guy put Quintana out with a body shot that made me piss blood, the same Quintana that beat the prospect of the year Joel Julio and handed Paul Williams his first loss…. Clowns

Miguel Cotto is one of the BEST fighters of this generation and everyone and thats just a fact he has a resume that boasts some of the toughest most talented boxers in the weight classes he has competed in for any duration…. Margo, when Tony was Tony, Pac Man, decent Judah, VERY GOOD Mosley, Mayweather, Clottey….. Had Miguel soft shoed perhaps he would sport only one loss but his record speaks for itself, 3 losses 2 to guys who were the fighter of the decade and the runnerup (ATG’s) an avenged loss to HARD ass Margo loaded or not…. Even Mayweather had FULL respect for Cotto BEFORE and AFTER the bout….He gave Floyd Mayweather his toughest fight in modern history F,ck Castillo….

Tark, you usually talk sense, but i’m not sure about that comment…Trout is has the faster hands i would say…Canelo would be a problem for Cotto,no doubt, but Canelo IS easy to hit and i’m sure Cotto would have too much for him….but Trout?…Trout is much better than people realise.Cotto will find it hard to score on Trout,he’s very hard to hit clean.I think it will be an interesting fight.I applaud Cotto for taking this fight,as it’s a more difficult fight than Canelo.I think Trout will win by a narrow MD.

Trout has a better style for Cotto than Canelo Alvarez, who has blazing hand speed and a brutal liver shot—you don’t want that.. Cotto is a 3-Division World Champion and a great fighter. For Trout to beat Cotto he has to be a great fighter too… It will be a competitive fight and could go either way… Don’t let Cotto’s lack of height fool you—or the fact that he fought most of his career fights at 140 … As for the hateful comment about Cotto being painful to watch because his footwork is so bad???
