Freddy too did a good job with his boxer, who was less skilled ,yet more accurate.Good fight, good corner work and good rematch…..God bless….kenny weldon Posted November 17, 2012 3:00 pmBoxtradamus“REALLY? Posted November 15, 2012 4:37 pmJoseph Herron10 Count, it’s going to be very difficult for a fighter as tall as Martirosyan to get inside of a 5’9″ fighter like Lara. Rest assured, guys. Both men will look much improved in the rematch. lara will hopefully have two healthy hands and vanes will have grown much more accustomed to acting as the effective aggressor. Should be a much more entertaining outing!! Posted November 15, 2012 3:35 pmNo10CountAll Lara showed me was that at heart he is afraid. Also – I didnt see either as being great. Joseph HerronIt just takes one awkward punch to injure a hand, Machete. Especially if you’re throwing it in te form of a hook. Posted November 14, 2012 1:48 pmdick tigeri would like to see Canelo vs Lara. It should be an interesting fight while it last. Opinions are basically speculation , IMO Canelo stops Lara. GB needs to match Canelo tough from here on out. He should be allowed to prove himself to the fans. Posted November 14, 2012 4:51 amte tumboon a side note: it just occurred to me the amazing level that Fernando Vargas was performing at the same point in his career. the Vargas who punched-out Quarety would’ve made short work of Vanes or Lara. it’s a shame to recall the way Vargas’ career ended. losing to Mayorga(?!?!) AFter Retardo was KTFO by DLH(?!). that was some direct and wicked karma of some kind going on there. anyway, it’s a fight that Vargas was steadily winning but those flash-KDs were decisive. we caught that one live at Staples. i could see and feel Vargas’ dissapointment that night. Posted November 14, 2012 12:15 amte tumbogood catch with the translator note but FA’s still right to note that Lara fought like crap. nothing like he was being inexplicably praised for before this matchup despite convincing video evidence to the contrary. ultimately and IMO, Lara and Martirosyan are simply too inexperienced, unproven, untested to be declared “elite” and barely top-notch. although, relatively speaking, they are. anyway, one thing was irrefutably proven by this fight: Vanes Martirosyan and Erislandy Lara are equals. give or take a couple of rounds. they are not elite. not yet. Posted November 14, 2012 12:02 amJoseph HerronEA, Lara’s manager Luis Decubas Jr. is also his translator…Lara doesn’t speak any English. Of course he’s going to tell his manager first…sheeesh!! Posted November 13, 2012 9:24 pmLuke IlidanLara/Mortirosyan fight is not a draw, they both lose. No mandatory fight with Canelo and the fans were not impress with the fight, they are not interested to match them to Canelo anymore. Lara need to stop running and fight, Vanes should find offensive opponent to slug it out. Sure thing. Fact is Lara fought like crap, his mad dog act at the weigh in had no effect on Vanes, and he got a draw. Next time fight like it means something. Lara probably loses a decision to Canelo due to his passive style. Once he gets tagged a few times, he’ll get on his bicycle. After the fight, Lara will whine like a beeatch. Posted November 13, 2012 1:49 pmJoseph HerronGuys, it was a very awkward fight for both fighters. One fighter didn’t have the benefit of his jab or right hook to set up his primary weapon, and the other was fighting in a way in which he’s not accustomed. Vanes has never been an effective aggressor and isn’t comfortable throwing punches while taking the lead. Do the elite fighters find a way to win when faced with adversity or an uncomfortable style match up? Absolutely. Both fighters have much to learn in the sport, but their loegacies haven’t been written yet. We’ll see who responds best to this technical draw. Posted November 13, 2012 11:10 amSREDMONDThis was a dud fight but the reality is that he started to assert his skill againt Vanes as the bout got into the later rounds… He was punching Martirosyan dead center in the face, and setting him up… The notion that Lara is too much for Canelo is largely based on his tagging Williams over and over which was excellent counterpunching but Canelo has the cool, efficient destroyer mentality… Compact HARD combinations and very good bodywork. The fight was stopped in the 9th and that’s that. If Lara was so darn good, why didn’t he start dominating Martirosyan much sooner and in much more dominate fashion? The tide wasn’t turning and there was no stoppage in by Lara in sight. Wishful thinking is great but the TD stoppage was what it was and nothing more. Matter of fact, two rounds before the fight ended I updated my FaceBook status with, “I think Lara is about to stop this dude!” Posted November 12, 2012 11:16 pmHidalgoOh, here we go with the “would have” theories. Ronnie Shields is barking just to make noise. What really happened for nine rounds is that Martirosyan exposed Lara for the less-than-elite fighter that he really is. Too much hype on Erislandy. The fight ended in a TD, Shields. Get over it. Posted November 12, 2012 11:15 pmJoseph HerronJust confirmed that Vanes Martirosyan will be on tomorrow night’s episode of “The Pugilist KOrner” to officially refute Ronnie’s claims. He read the article and wants to counter every point on tomorrow night’s program. Can’t wait!! Posted November 12, 2012 10:33 pmlargoToo many excuses for my taste…Canelo has nothing to worry about. Posted November 12, 2012 8:59 pmPapoI don’t think Lara would have KO Vanes, but he sure had his numbers in those later rounds. The main cause of the issue, IMO, is the lack of a plan “B” (lately) when it comes to Roach fighters. It started with Kahn’s lost to Lemont Peterson and then again against Garcia. Many boxing fan placed the blame on Kahn’s weak chin, but I see it more as a lack of smart strategy. Even Pac’s closed win over Marquez and his lost to Bradley points to a lack of clever plan. I think Pac only plan against Marquez was to knock him out, not planning on Marquez going the distance. Marquez got tired by the 10th round, but Pac appeared confused and did not take advantage of the situation. And we can’t forget Chavez. Although he did knock Sergio down on the last round of their scheduled 12 round fight, he was outclassed throughout the fight, appearing almost amateurish. I can’t say that Roach deserves all the blame, but I do believe his health has deteriorated to the point where he’s no longer effective as a trainer. His only hope is that Pac can win decisively over Marquez this time around. If it’s another closed fight or if Pac loses this time around, I believe Roach should retire. Posted November 12, 2012 7:58 pmMACHETEMONSTERPEOPLE TELL ME HOW MANY PUNCHES THROWN ALL TOGETHER. HOW MANY MILES DID LARA RUN IN CIRCLES, AND HEADBUTT ACCIDENTAL? Posted November 12, 2012 7:56 pmte tumboShields is full of it from top to bottom. what is “unexpected” about a fight-related injury? Wtf kind of rookie is he? otherwise, a thoroughly-prepared fighter anticipates having to overcome fight-related injuries, which in this case was invisible to the naked eye. i didn’t note any behavior from Lara that would indicate a severely-injured right-hand. also, Lara isN’T “effective fighting while backing up”. that was revealed in his losses to Molina and Williams. in fact, Vanes needs to study how Mares dealt with the same situation (i.e., boxer v. puncher) and not let Lara off the hook in a rematch. Btw, despite all of Shields pissin and moaning about this being a “Top Rank” fight card taking place “in front of a very pro-Vanes crowd”, the final scorecards were an accurate reflection of what occurred in the ring. i only wish all Top Rank main events were scored as accurately. bottomline, neither Lara or Martirosyan earned a $howdown v. Alvarez before Cotto or Kirkland. in fact, Lara needs to rematch Molina to redeem those bogus scorecards and i wouldn’t mind seeing Martirosyan v. Angulo. both of these matchups could be tucked quite neatly under a main event of Alvarez v. Cotto. anything less would be promotional business as usual and NOT what fight-fans want to see. Posted November 12, 2012 7:21 pmPEEJI thought Vanes was ahead but I wasn’t scoring the fight I was just drinking and watching and I thought Vanes was ahead. Posted November 12, 2012 4:45 pmTitopaPEEJ – Yeah he was taking them fairly well….but after the 7th, Martirosyan wasn’t as aggressive, those left hands from Lara were doing damage, there were 3 rounds to go, I think Lara would’ve stopped him ’cause Martirosyan would’ve gotten got too eager after falling further behind on the cards, thus walking into a hard shot. BUT, Lara was DEFINITELY scared of Marti’s power…for sure! Posted November 12, 2012 4:40 pmPEEJThat’s a negative. Vanes was taking whatever punches Lara through. Lara does not throw many punches.
