Ronnie did a good job.It was obvious his boxer had a hurt left hand and it was obvious the strategy for the bout was changing as the bout went on. Freddy too did a good job with his boxer, who was less skilled ,yet more accurate.Good fight, good corner work and good rematch…..God bless….kenny weldonPosted November 17, 2012 3:00 pm
“REALLY? Please quote where Shields said he agreed with you. You really ARE such a LOSER Braggadamus!”-Read the title to the article DUNCE. I SAID that to YOU before HE SAID it. Therefore he agrees with ME!! And I am such a WINNER. And I shall remain that way.Posted November 15, 2012 6:22 pm
““Boohoohoo” *sob* *sniff* *snort* Poor loser Braggadamus just can’t handle the embarassment of incorrectly predicting two fights in a row—TWO MAJOR FIGHTS!”-”YAY” *Hip* *Hip* *Hip* *Hooray!!* The WINNER Boxtradamus almost can’t handle his embarrassment of riches from betting on WINNERS. Even when I’m robbed I STILL don’t pick the LOSER twice in a row because I’m TOO GREAT. I am the GREATEST Fight Prophet ever born!!!Posted November 15, 2012 6:18 pm
I remember watching Lara v Williams and I thought the guy was special. After watching this fight, I’m not sure I want to see Lara fight again.Posted November 15, 2012 4:37 pm
10 Count, it’s going to be very difficult for a fighter as tall as Martirosyan to get inside of a 5’9″ fighter like Lara.
Rest assured, guys. Both men will look much improved in the rematch. lara will hopefully have two healthy hands and vanes will have grown much more accustomed to acting as the effective aggressor.
Should be a much more entertaining outing!!Posted November 15, 2012 3:35 pm
All Lara showed me was that at heart he is afraid.
Also – I didnt see either as being great.
It just takes one awkward punch to injure a hand, Machete. Especially if you’re throwing it in te form of a hook.Posted November 15, 2012 2:48 pm
how the hell did lara injure his hand if no more then 100 punches were exchanged people are stupid!! lara is not qualityPosted November 14, 2012 8:29 pm
Whitaker, Moreno, Lara are slick boxers , maybe too slick and are not the type of fighters I enjoy watching.Posted November 14, 2012 1:48 pm
i would like to see Canelo vs Lara. It should be an interesting fight while it last. Opinions are basically speculation , IMO Canelo stops Lara. GB needs to match Canelo tough from here on out. He should be allowed to prove himself to the fans.Posted November 14, 2012 4:51 am
on a side note: it just occurred to me the amazing level that Fernando Vargas was performing at the same point in his career. the Vargas who punched-out Quarety would’ve made short work of Vanes or Lara. it’s a shame to recall the way Vargas’ career ended. losing to Mayorga(?!?!) AFter Retardo was KTFO by DLH(?!). that was some direct and wicked karma of some kind going on there. anyway, it’s a fight that Vargas was steadily winning but those flash-KDs were decisive. we caught that one live at Staples. i could see and feel Vargas’ dissapointment that night.Posted November 14, 2012 12:15 am
good catch with the translator note but FA’s still right to note that Lara fought like crap. nothing like he was being inexplicably praised for before this matchup despite convincing video evidence to the contrary. ultimately and IMO, Lara and Martirosyan are simply too inexperienced, unproven, untested to be declared “elite” and barely top-notch. although, relatively speaking, they are. anyway, one thing was irrefutably proven by this fight: Vanes Martirosyan and Erislandy Lara are equals. give or take a couple of rounds. they are not elite. not yet.Posted November 14, 2012 12:02 am
EA, Lara’s manager Luis Decubas Jr. is also his translator…Lara doesn’t speak any English. Of course he’s going to tell his manager first…sheeesh!!Posted November 13, 2012 9:24 pm
Lara/Mortirosyan fight is not a draw, they both lose. No mandatory fight with Canelo and the fans were not impress with the fight, they are not interested to match them to Canelo anymore. Lara need to stop running and fight, Vanes should find offensive opponent to slug it out.Posted November 13, 2012 5:02 pm
i dnt mind seeing both fighters fight against anybody as long as it aint with each other of course in the rematch they can do some things different but it be the same thing there styles dnt matchPosted November 13, 2012 4:42 pm
Lara injured his hand in round 1 and told his manager instead of Shields eh? Sure thing. Fact is Lara fought like crap, his mad dog act at the weigh in had no effect on Vanes, and he got a draw. Next time fight like it means something.Posted November 13, 2012 4:19 pm
te tumbo – Martirosyan vs Angulo?….OOH WEE!! That would be freakin’ sweet.Posted November 13, 2012 2:36 pm
Vanes probably gets knocked out by Canelo. Lara probably loses a decision to Canelo due to his passive style. Once he gets tagged a few times, he’ll get on his bicycle. After the fight, Lara will whine like a beeatch.Posted November 13, 2012 1:49 pm
Guys, it was a very awkward fight for both fighters. One fighter didn’t have the benefit of his jab or right hook to set up his primary weapon, and the other was fighting in a way in which he’s not accustomed. Vanes has never been an effective aggressor and isn’t comfortable throwing punches while taking the lead.
Do the elite fighters find a way to win when faced with adversity or an uncomfortable style match up?
Absolutely. Both fighters have much to learn in the sport, but their loegacies haven’t been written yet. We’ll see who responds best to this technical draw.Posted November 13, 2012 1:43 pm
And you Gonzo sound like a jealous woman who would like to join them, but was not invited.Posted November 13, 2012 12:23 pm
I would like to see Lara and Redhed get it on!Posted November 13, 2012 11:10 am
This was a dud fight but the reality is that he started to assert his skill againt Vanes as the bout got into the later rounds… He was punching Martirosyan dead center in the face, and setting him up… The notion that Lara is too much for Canelo is largely based on his tagging Williams over and over which was excellent counterpunching but Canelo has the cool, efficient destroyer mentality… Compact HARD combinations and very good bodywork.Posted November 13, 2012 10:35 am

Bravo Mod. Big respect to you for having the courage not to censor that. This story has been gathering steam for quite a few weeks now and you could so easily have just ignored that and tried to sweep that under the carpet like so many others in the fight fraternity have done. Major props.Posted November 13, 2012 9:45 am

Does anyone think there’s any truth to the rumours circulating about Lara and Shields having sexual relations with each other? I know Lara, like the vast majority of Cuban men, swings both ways but I never would’ve guessed that Shields does too.Posted November 13, 2012 9:32 am
fightin’ this way with a damaged right hand for almost all of the fight means for me: that man got balls. Respect. If Lara would’ve koed the other one is bollocks to me. If my uncle had tits, he woul’ve be my aunt…. and so on and so forth….Posted November 13, 2012 4:50 am
as soon as lariat had tasted Vanes’s power he started running like a fox on the run. Vanes just said it right. running would have looked good for lara in the amateur fights, but not in pro fights. it probably was one of the most boring fights ever. Mares vs Moreno was a bliss.Posted November 13, 2012 2:13 am

Lara is not fun to watch – his style is not interesting in the pros and he does not deserve a title shot based on this performance against VanesPosted November 13, 2012 1:36 am
Ronnie Shields is full of it. Vanes would of knocked out Lara. Thats why Lara was runningPosted November 12, 2012 11:34 pm
Yes Lara was starting to get to Martirosyan, but I don’t believe for a minute the plan was for Lara to wait that much, otherwise Shields wouldn’t have been asking him to throw more punches round after round.Posted November 12, 2012 11:34 pm
“Ronnie Shields just SAID that he agreed with ME ” REALLY? Please quote where Shields said he agreed with you. You really ARE such a LOSER Braggadamus!Posted November 12, 2012 11:26 pm

“Lara was starting to turn the tide when the fight was stopped. He was landing that left hand quite often, and would have ended up winning. A stoppage, I’m not sure about that. Vanes is tough.” Sorry Hecdog, but there’s just no way you or Anonymous or Ronnie or anyone else can even qualify such a guess. The fight was stopped in the 9th and that’s that. If Lara was so darn good, why didn’t he start dominating Martirosyan much sooner and in much more dominate fashion? The tide wasn’t turning and there was no stoppage in by Lara in sight. Wishful thinking is great but the TD stoppage was what it was and nothing more.Posted November 12, 2012 11:23 pm

I agree with Shields! Matter of fact, two rounds before the fight ended I updated my FaceBook status with, “I think Lara is about to stop this dude!”Posted November 12, 2012 11:16 pm
Oh, here we go with the “would have” theories. Ronnie Shields is barking just to make noise. What really happened for nine rounds is that Martirosyan exposed Lara for the less-than-elite fighter that he really is. Too much hype on Erislandy. The fight ended in a TD, Shields. Get over it.Posted November 12, 2012 11:15 pm
Just confirmed that Vanes Martirosyan will be on tomorrow night’s episode of “The Pugilist KOrner” to officially refute Ronnie’s claims. He read the article and wants to counter every point on tomorrow night’s program.
Can’t wait!!Posted November 12, 2012 10:33 pm
Too many excuses for my taste…Canelo has nothing to worry about.Posted November 12, 2012 8:59 pm
I don’t think Lara would have KO Vanes, but he sure had his numbers in those later rounds. The main cause of the issue, IMO, is the lack of a plan “B” (lately) when it comes to Roach fighters. It started with Kahn’s lost to Lemont Peterson and then again against Garcia. Many boxing fan placed the blame on Kahn’s weak chin, but I see it more as a lack of smart strategy.
Even Pac’s closed win over Marquez and his lost to Bradley points to a lack of clever plan. I think Pac only plan against Marquez was to knock him out, not planning on Marquez going the distance. Marquez got tired by the 10th round, but Pac appeared confused and did not take advantage of the situation.
And we can’t forget Chavez. Although he did knock Sergio down on the last round of their scheduled 12 round fight, he was outclassed throughout the fight, appearing almost amateurish.
I can’t say that Roach deserves all the blame, but I do believe his health has deteriorated to the point where he’s no longer effective as a trainer. His only hope is that Pac can win decisively over Marquez this time around. If it’s another closed fight or if Pac loses this time around, I believe Roach should retire.Posted November 12, 2012 7:58 pm
PEOPLE TELL ME HOW MANY PUNCHES THROWN ALL TOGETHER. HOW MANY MILES DID LARA RUN IN CIRCLES, AND HEADBUTT ACCIDENTAL?Posted November 12, 2012 7:56 pm
Shields is full of it from top to bottom. what is “unexpected” about a fight-related injury? Wtf kind of rookie is he? otherwise, a thoroughly-prepared fighter anticipates having to overcome fight-related injuries, which in this case was invisible to the naked eye. i didn’t note any behavior from Lara that would indicate a severely-injured right-hand. also, Lara isN’T “effective fighting while backing up”. that was revealed in his losses to Molina and Williams. in fact, Vanes needs to study how Mares dealt with the same situation (i.e., boxer v. puncher) and not let Lara off the hook in a rematch. Btw, despite all of Shields pissin and moaning about this being a “Top Rank” fight card taking place “in front of a very pro-Vanes crowd”, the final scorecards were an accurate reflection of what occurred in the ring. i only wish all Top Rank main events were scored as accurately. bottomline, neither Lara or Martirosyan earned a $howdown v. Alvarez before Cotto or Kirkland. in fact, Lara needs to rematch Molina to redeem those bogus scorecards and i wouldn’t mind seeing Martirosyan v. Angulo. both of these matchups could be tucked quite neatly under a main event of Alvarez v. Cotto. anything less would be promotional business as usual and NOT what fight-fans want to see.Posted November 12, 2012 7:21 pm
I thought Vanes was ahead but I wasn’t scoring the fight I was just drinking and watching and I thought Vanes was ahead. Lara gave me the impression that he was running more than he was actually fighting and you can’t win a fight that wayPosted November 12, 2012 6:22 pm
By the way THANKS for vouching for ME Ronnie. I tried to tell Haterdalgo that Vanes was on his way to being stopped but his fanboyism wouldn’t allow him to hear the TRUTH.Posted November 12, 2012 5:39 pm
Well its a GOOD thing that anyone “liking ME” is no factor HERE. What you have to add to the Boxing conversation is a factor. I am the BEST at picking the WINNER. I’m as real as they come and I’m not a homo I’m a HETERO. Ronnie Shields just SAID that he agreed with ME and MY neighbor does TOO if he’s SMART….I’m a Friday night Prophet and Saturday night/Sunday/Monday celebrator…..I get dissed the most because I WIN the most. Just like the Yankees, the Cowboys, the Lakers, Manchester United, and Floyd Mayweather. Most people HATE WINNERS…..SO I am HONORED by the HATE.Posted November 12, 2012 5:36 pm

Lara was starting to turn the tide when the fight was stopped. He was landing that left hand quite often, and would have ended up winning. A stoppage, I’m not sure about that. Vanes is tough.Posted November 12, 2012 4:45 pm
PEEJ – Yeah he was taking them fairly well….but after the 7th, Martirosyan wasn’t as aggressive, those left hands from Lara were doing damage, there were 3 rounds to go, I think Lara would’ve stopped him ’cause Martirosyan would’ve gotten got too eager after falling further behind on the cards, thus walking into a hard shot. BUT, Lara was DEFINITELY scared of Marti’s power…for sure!Posted November 12, 2012 4:40 pm
That’s a negative. Vanes was taking whatever punches Lara through. Lara does not throw many punches. He will have a tough time winning a title and he will never be the champ. Lara would be dominated by Canelo if he actually tried to fight and not constantly movePosted November 12, 2012 4:01 pm
Ronnie Shields YOU are exactly right. YOU agree with ME on that!Posted November 12, 2012 3:38 pm
