Posted December 1, 2012 6:48 pmmando323watched viloria vs marquez great back and forth fight!!! where is the coverage on that fight!!!!!! congrats viloria!!!! Top Rank is king when it comes to maximizing profits and matchmaking so why fight abner when he is getting paid 1 million dollars to fight arce a natural 112 pounder. so in december we have a 112 against a 140 fighter nice!!! now style wise donaire doesn’t throw jabs so how is he going to hold off abner who has quicker and more educated feet = angles to not get hit? that is why arum is milking it donaire is the favorite because he has more power and quicker fists but he is always looking for the perfect punch… one last thing if anyone watched this fight viloria hit marquez with at least 10 low blows in the groin or hip but no one calls him dirty its boxing…. cant wait for viloria vs chocolatito!!!! Posted November 18, 2012 9:33 amRobIn the past 2yrs no one has fought better competition then Abner Mares an Andre Ward. These two guys are fighting like we would hope all fighters would, but not everyone has it in them to face the best (Mayweather) an some how be good enough to win. Nonito is the top dog no doubt but Mares has shown enough an gaining so much experience he might be able to catch Nonito on a good night an again come away with the W. You don’t get better facing old guys an guys the real fight fans no have no chance against Nonito, Mares an Ward are fighting the best an getting better because of it. Posted November 18, 2012 6:17 amrcaIf the contest between Mares and Nonito (if they fight) is predicated on the amount of low blows, detected or not by the referee, thrown in the fight, Mares wins hands down. Posted November 17, 2012 10:26 amrcaThe notion that Mares ‘resume is better than Nonito is laughable. I have not seen Mares broke jaws, sent fighters to the canvas with twitching legs or severe disorientation aith one punch, and these were opponents of the upper boxing echelon (Montiel, Dachinyan, Mathebula, Shederenko, Nishioka). Will Mares give Nonito a good fight – of course he will or he would not be ranked like he is now. Fighting Donaire and beating him are two very different scenarios. There is nobody that will hang with Nonito in his weight division. If you fight him, you have to contend with his speed, his chin, his stamina and his lethal KO power in both hands. I have not seen anything in Mares’ last fights that indicates he can hang with Nonito. If they fight, Nonito will KO him with either hand inside of nine rounds. Posted November 16, 2012 11:17 pmThe Mad ScientistHecdog has the beat. Posted November 16, 2012 9:36 pmhecdogTitopa, yes Donaire does carry power in that left hook, but Mares also takes a pretty good punch. My hesitation with Donaire is the quality of fighters he’s facing aren’t challenging enough for him to really learn a lot from. I think Mares has better all around boxing skills, and he’s being put through the fire each time he fights, and not because he’s having a tough time but because these guys are in their prime and coming at him with different styles and strategies. We’re learning that mares can go through adversity and come out on top. He refuses to get beat, and so far, no one has been able to beat him. As I mentioned earlier, Donaire always has a punchers chance, so Mares needs to be alert at all times, but the fights Mares is taking right now are preparing him for everything. He knows how to dig deep, he knows how to get up from a knockdown, he knows how to fight with a cut, he knows when to step on the gas pedal when he needs to, and he knows how to fight a tough 12 round war. IMO, he’s going to be better prepared than Donaire. The real question is will Arum let this fight happen? I hope so. Posted November 16, 2012 8:42 pmFight AficionadoDonaire looked dominant at the lower weights but over the past year he’s looked pedestrian. Make him fight Mares and win or lose I’ll say he’s doing solid against top comp. Or better yet make him fight Rigondeaux. Stop cherrypicking. Posted November 16, 2012 8:04 pmTitopahe Mad Scientist – Look at the guys that Nishioka’s been in the ring with….from all his experience and considering his long undefeated streak…Why was he so scared to fight Donaire? I mean, the guy was frozen stiff, and the second he thought “I can win this” he was put on his behind, TWICE and his corner had to save him. After the fight he basically said that Donaire’s speed and power was just too much. I’m telling you, Donaire is one of those guys that needs an ELITE opponent to bring out the best in him…ask Montiel and Darchinyan, they were “elite” and Donaire SMOKED them. Yes, lower division, but top notch in those respectable division nonetheless. Posted November 16, 2012 7:50 pmThe Mad ScientistTitopa -I think you’re still stuck on the Nonito of old who use to dominate and destroy guys at 118lbs and below..at 122lbs Donaire has looked confused and lost with no clue what’s so ever on what to when he can get a guy out of there..Im not saying Donaire isn’t dangerous for anybody at 122lbs but in a sense he has been expose as guy who’s been getting by on physical advantages (speed, power, athleticism) more so than actual boxing skill or ring IQ..if you can’t see it I think its time to get off the weed vato-loco, its affecting you beyond just sueding you after a hards day work and your sleeping problems, SERIO..Lol! Posted November 16, 2012 7:43 pmTitopahecdog – But none of those guys have/had the pop Donaire does….Mares is hittable, Darchinyan proved that by dropping him and giving him a helluva fight, and that’s because Darchinyan is a puncher, and we all know who hits harder between Darchinyan and Donaire. Donaire is going to KO him. Posted November 16, 2012 6:05 pmhecdogMad Scientist, I do like Mares as a fighter, and really thought he would have a tough time with Moreno, but he showed me some true toughness in that fight. As far as Donaire goes, I still don’t like him, but he does have skills. Right now, I would have to go with Mares. The way he is going through top guys with different styles, and beating them is impressive to me. He wants to be the best and he’s proving it by taking everyone on and asking for a fight with Donaire. And you’re right, Arum needs to get out of the way, and let these guys fight. He’s been defeating the BEST. No doubt. I can’t and won’t argue that. Posted November 16, 2012 4:45 pmTitopaI must agree though…Bob Arum is doing a TERRIBLE job with Donaire, with Shaw, Donaire was getting “THE FIGHTS”. Posted November 16, 2012 4:44 pmTitopaThe Mad Scientist – I just believe that Donaire is THE best from 122lbs down….I think skill wise, he’s unmatched, that’s it. I’m not down playing Mares’ abilities, I thought he looked good and did what he had to against Moreno, but Moreno is no Donaire in the power punching department, NOTHING Moreno threw could discourage Mares, Donaire is a MUCH more polished fighter who uses his opponents mistakes to land his bombs….Mares, although a VERY good fighter, makes A LOT of mistakes, hence the “sloppiness” of his punches, Donaire WILL capitalize on them. Posted November 16, 2012 4:42 pmTitopate tumbo – What happened to Montiel? Oh yeah, DESTROYED!!! Montiel is FAR, FAR more accomplished than ANYONE (minus Mosley, who was WAY past his best) on Canelo’s resume, I agree that Donaire hasn’t been fighting the VERY best in his last couple fights, yes, Vazquez is a good fighter who gave Arce fits, but Donaire can do better….and I believe he will. It’s simple Posted November 16, 2012 4:38 pmTitopaThe Mad Scientist – What?? I’m just a realist….it’s simple. I don’t go for Mexican’s JUST because they’re Mexican, I go for the fighter I believe will win…I like Mares, he’s a bit dirty, but I like his approach to boxing, he WANTS the best and he’s been beating the best, I’ve rooted for him every time he’s fought and I picked him against his last 4 opponents. But against Donaire, I’m sorry, I just don’t see him winning, Donaire is just TOO explosive for him, if wild swinging (chin out) Darchinyan can drop him with his “power” shots, then Donaire is going to destroy him with HIS “power” shots. Posted November 16, 2012 3:12 pmte tumbo“yeah I know you’re a fan of Marquez now that he reduced Pacquiao’s amazing run from David Diaz to Shane Mosley down to rubble” (LoL). MAD SCI, there are indeed some severe self-loathing issues going on with Titopa. he’s constantly slicing off his nose to spite his face with his typically off-base analyses of Mexican fighters. neither Salido, Alvarez, Marquez, or Mares were “real” enough for him before they proved him wrong, Again. afterwards, he predictably backpedals into the mug of the next up-and-coming Mexican fighter before releasing yet another burst of toxic gas in their face. “Lol” is right. Posted November 16, 2012 3:08 pmThe Mad ScientistTitopa there was a time you believed Marquez could no longer compete with Manny Pacquiao during a time what seemed to be an incredible run for the Pacman..now you’re starting to believe Donaire is worlds ahead in class above anybody else in the 122lbs division by pumping up his wins over lame competition at 122lbs..if you don’t know yet you’ll find out soon enough that Nonito is no longer the untouchable elusive, overwhelmingly fast, strong, powerful fighter he appeared to be at 118lbs and below..I wouldn’t be shocked if the Flash takes an “L” before a fight between he and Mares can be made..watch! Posted November 16, 2012 2:37 pmThe Mad ScientistTitopa -te tumbo was right about you..no one works harder than you at trying to sound like a neutral mexican fight fan by not allowing yourself to give mexican fighters the benefit of the doubt until they prove you wrong like Marquez did against Pacquiao and Mares will against Donaire..yeah I know you’re a fan of Marquez now that he reduced Pacquiao’s amazing run from David Diaz to Shane Mosley down to rubble..Lol! But against guys who really try to win, he SMOKES them, he’s explosive and if he can tag you, he’ll knock you out. Which is why I feel he’ll KO Mares, because Mares IS willing to engage and is NOT afraid to “fight”, which will favor the more powerful Donaire. You’ll see, Donaire will STOP Mares inside 8. Posted November 16, 2012 1:39 pmTitopaThose of you claiming that Donaire’s opponents posed “no threat” are seriously overlooking the fact that Donaire is MAKING them look like they’re “no threat”….Nishioka had been knocking dudes OUT, he smoked Gonzalez and many others, he was supposed to give Donaire a big challenge, except they forgot to tell Nishioka that…the man was MESMERIZED by Donaire’s speed and power, and the moment he “tried to win” he was DROPPED, twice!!! Donaire is making these foos look silly…what happened to Montiel when he “tried to win”?? Yeah, he was sent to never never land. It’s not his fault his opponents FREEZE when they feel his speed and power. Donaire stops Mares with NO problem. Posted November 16, 2012 1:29 pmTitopaThis is a MUCH, MUCH better fight than Donaire vs Rigo…because unlike Rigo, Mares is ACCOMPLISHED, he’s been beating the TOP guys of his division(s) for years…with that being said, Donaire wins via TKO/KO, he’s just too explosive, he will NOT let Mares get wild on him and he will NOT allow Mares to think he can attack, Donaire is just an overall a MUCH better fighter.
