These unions and federations just have chosen to allow 12 rounders. Sounds brutal, but it’s a brutal sport. They’re cutting the balls off of the NFL players now too. In 5 years they’ll be wearing flags. Boxing should also go back to lighter weight gloves. Heavier gloves produce more damage over a longer period of time whereas lighter gloves would tend to score quicker KO’s and stoppages. If nothing else, change the championship fights to 13 rounds so at least there will be a few less draws (as long as there are no 10 – 8 or 10 – 10 rounds). Posted November 19, 2012 11:50 pmte tumbowatched this fight in real time. it was a brutal and punishing bout. i’ve seen just as brutal since. even more punishing but you never know what or how much will exceed somebody’s threshhold for punishment. it was tragic but i still believe that 12 rounds is a pacifier rather than a remedy. watched the last 15-rounder in real time as well. that was a great fight too with the underdog Paez prevailing over the talented and undefeated Calvin Grove in Mexicali. overall and IMO, same-day weigh-ins and 15-rounders encourage healthier and fundamentally-superior preparation. the exceptions prove that rule. otherwise, i don’t know how rehydrating 20lbs-30lbs over night is any healthier or less risky.
