FredRest in peace Hector Camacho! He was a great boxer in his prime until he ran into Chapo Rosario. Although, he beat Leonard, he was beaten up by Roberto Duran and got a gift win. However, he had great fights against Jose Luis Ramirez , Panzienza, etc. I had hpe you would have been around a very long time, so i could have met you and talked boxing. Posted November 27, 2012 11:04 pmHyprocracyaboundsThe fact is that good people get caught up in bad things through bad choices or economic situations.. Plenty of good people have died as a result of Drugs and Crime but we see a major double standard.. You can be a Hollywood star like Charlie Sheen, get coked up week after week arrested for drugs and destroying private property and nothing happens to you but if it’s a person of color or a minority you get screwed… Posted November 27, 2012 9:22 pmHypocracyaboundsOld Yank – So do you feel the same about the death of this Beauty Queen? She too killed while associating with Drug Dealers?? http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/cartel-military-firefight-kills-mexican-beauty-queen/story?id=17820408 Posted November 27, 2012 9:20 pmOld YankIt was just a good-natured felony Camacho did…don’t fret about it. And his child-abuse case? The one where the complaint reads that he strangled his son by the neck holding him over his head, and then slammed him to the ground and stomped on him? It was a jolly good time for all and no harm was done. I’m not a judge and jury, they already convicted Camacho. I’m a realist who knows that a championship belt or two is the only line between a forgotten miscreant and Camacho. Posted November 26, 2012 7:17 pmOld WankI am a steroid abusing elderly mental case who likes to play judge n jury . Corporate thieves , warmongers etc are fine but god forbid any working class stiff takes drugs. When are you going to call for mandatory drug testing for white collar professionals, politicians etc Old Yank and explain why the laws regarding crack cocaine( used by the poor ) are so much more punative than the laws regarding powder cociane ( loved by the rich ) . Posted November 26, 2012 9:18 amOld YankYou boys are too sweet. Thanks so much for the etiquette lesson on mourning. But I think I already read the article in my wife’s latest issue of PMS Monthly. They suggested that when a misfit felon, drug-dealer/user, wife-beater and child abuser dies from his own stupidity that the appropriate time for mourning before mentioning he was a misfit is to wait until some genius writes an article on miscreant former fighters who perish in the squalor of their own making. I apologize for jumping the etiquette queue and making a few awkwardly timed comments because I was not sure a follow-up article would be out after the appropriate mourning period. For those wringing their hands in stressful disbelief over the lack of decency in those not allowing for a fantasy mourning story to be told without interruption, I suggest you take a few Midol and recognize that when you wake, the world will be largely unchanged tomorrow. Posted November 26, 2012 9:16 amOne More Round@ Who shot JR… So your a detective now huh Columbo ? You know what happend that night ? All you are is a puppet of the media and repeat everything they say ! I bet you never met the man in your life but yet you have it all figured out on what kind of person he was… (and yes I did know him personally) Get some facts before you make comments other wise you look stupid like you do now. Posted November 26, 2012 2:01 amWho Shot J.R.?People are coming back from Afganistan with no legs and people are down over some drug addict ex-boxer that got paid extremely well during his career getting offed during a drug deal. Get some perspective. He was a drug dealer that probably sold to kids. Posted November 25, 2012 7:17 pmRickLove him or hate him it was always exciting to see what he would do next. The Hamed’s and Paez’s of the sport knew if you wanted to get attention do it Macho Man style. He wasn’t just a show or circus act Camacho when he wanted to could really box and was blessed with a God given talent not to mention how underrated his toughness and chin were. Lord knows how much greater he could have been. We all know that what he accomplished in the ring will be enough to see him in the HOF. I was one of those Ricans that routed against him when he fought Chavez or Tito but when I look back that’s what made him great. Hero or villain he had you watching him. Boxing , Puerto Rico and his fans were lucky to have him in the sport. RIP champ. Condolences and prayers with his family. Posted November 25, 2012 6:46 pmFight AficionadoLots of great memories of Camacho. When he fought Oscar in 97 my buddy showed up at the sportsbar, packed with Oscar fans, wearing that Squggy hair curl and talking shiat the whole time. Way past his prime Camacho manhandling Ray Leonard like a puncher when everyone expected him to run. Even the Haugen loss was memorable. RIP champ. Posted November 25, 2012 5:05 pmIRON MIKEThank you Hector , you made boxing exciting you made it fun, you never ducked anyone and always gave 100% for the fans, Rest in peace my brothers, prays going up for his family May God comfort them at this time -PEACE Posted November 25, 2012 1:59 pmjoemoI agree with your general sentiment but you shouldn’t wish this sort of thing upon any boxer. I’ll never forget his words “Ray Leonard ain’t coming back on my watch” and then he became the first and only man to stop the Sugar man. What a showman, hated him for a long time, but like many of the greats showed how tough he was later in his career. Another big loss for the boxing community. Posted November 25, 2012 12:16 amMarkusI met Camacho and what a colorful person he is. I had a bad day and he made me feel good. I will always remember that. I say why does this have to happen to him why not Bernard Hopkins who I met also who was a complete utter snobish jerk ! ICamacho had problems no doubt but he was a good guy. Posted November 24, 2012 9:38 pmprideofvirginiabeachSad to hear, but Macho had to be the biggest loudmouth in boxing back in the 90s. I hate to think that additude led to his death, but it probably did. Still, it’s a shame. His fights with Haugen and Pazienza were fun to watch. Not everyone was a fan of his, but they respected his boxing ability. He charmed people with his magnetic smile, and he sure loved women looking at him.
