What Americans have done at HW is in the past. You don’t have a thing to be proud of at HW anymore. This is why Americans are all obsessed with mythical match ups and “(Enter name of dead, retired or crippled former American HW here) would beat the Klitschkos both in one round on the same night,” blah, blah, move on, America is finished at HW.

Fury won as I expected. Followed the RBR and it seems Johnson just tried to survive, and made an overall poor effort. He’s hardly gatekeeper material anymore.

Anyway good for Fury, he’s ahead of Price at this stage. I think Fury v Arreola would be a very good bout. Chris will mix it up and test Fury. If/when Price gets by TT, I hope he leaves the 40+ crowd for a spell and fight a worthy under 35 y/o HW.

Johnson is an embarrassment to Boxing. And so is his Trainer for not lighting a fire under his ass in Training camp. The guy put forth NO effort whatsoever towards trying to WIN. 99% of his strategy was to avoid punches. Defense only keeps you IN the the Fight but Offense WINS Fights. When you put forth VERY little effort on Offense its an automatic giveaway that you’re not trying to WIN or you’re willing to depend on LUCK…..Maybe he was waiting for the opening like Foreman DID vs. Moorer but the opening never came…….Either way the result is a PISS POOR effort by Johnson.

Posted December 1, 2012 9:56 pm

KL

Banger……….its all psychology mate……….especially when Johnson speaks…………he is not going to “admit” he’s only been training for 2 weeks because that could give the Fury camp more confidence……….he says “yes I’m in the shape of my life and I have been training for months for you Mr.Fury”…………….just like the ” I’m gonna knock out Fury quick” bluff that Johnson uses.
It’s all to try to undermine the opponents confidence………….as is Johnson’s bogus claim about the best American heavyweight will meet the best British heavyweight tonight.

Posted December 1, 2012 9:18 pm

PitBull Petrill

MMA: You Brits still have along way to go to catch up to the historical accomplishments of US heavies. You morons have had LL and Fitzsimmons in the last 100 years! Way to go!!!!

Posted December 1, 2012 9:16 pm

Banger

Surely Johnson wouldn’t of admitted that though cos that would of been his excuse for losing.? Any way the best man won well done Tyson

Posted December 1, 2012 9:11 pm

MMA is for homos/exuals

Americans can go watch glorified g/ay p/orn aka — MMA now. Their HW all suck. Oh, thats because the American athletes “have all lost interest” and would rather play in the NBA, yeah right. I question the s/exuality of any “man” that enjoys MMA. Stay off the soy and MMA won’t be so exciting for you.

“The Klitschkos will try to avoid fighting him” — The K Bros avoid NO ONE, you a-hole. Fury beat a guy that Vitali already beat, you clown. Avoid him, my a/$$.

Posted December 1, 2012 9:06 pm

KL

Banger……..So Johnson says he’s been training for 3 months…………….. but didn’t Johnson say he was the best fighter in America, didn’t Johnson also say that we would see a different Johnson tonight………one that would go for an early KO???
So just because Johnson says something……..it don’t make it true!

Posted December 1, 2012 9:03 pm

Banger

@KL Johnson admitted in an interview last week he’s been training for 3 months for a guy who was 6ft 7 so Tyson didn’t have an advantage tonight both were in good shape for this fight Johnson is just heartless like fury told us all

typo: that should have read:when Fury was NOT putting Johnson under any real pressure

Posted December 1, 2012 8:43 pm

KL

Limey Jay the question is did Fury make Johnson look bad or did Johnson make Fury look good.
My own feeling is, and always has been is that Fury had a big advantage over Johnson……..Fury got into good fighting shape over a period of months……knowing he would fight Dec1………Johnson only got just over 2 weeks.
That isn’t to say that a fully prepared Johnson would have beaten Fury………….but I think we would have gotten a much better contested fight.
In the latter half of the fight when Fury was putting Johnson under any real pressure, Johnson had the opportunity to let go some shots………but he just stood there preferring to shadow box for most of the time. So I think there is part of your answer……….Johnson didn’t throw punches even when Fury wasn’t doing much.
Fury did look better than I have seen him………but in truth Johnson put Fury under hardly any pressure with the exception of the final round.
Even Hennesey himself wouldn’t have been able to “sell” this fight as exciting or even competitive………perhaps that’s why Hennessey didn’t take to the mic tonight……..he knew that that’s why the crowd were booing………they paid good money to see a sparring session!

Not another awful American ‘writer’ that can’t give credit where it’s due. Fury completely outboxed the guy, he was just like any other fat, useless American heavweight. The best this lame mofo writer can do is predict what a ‘younger’ Johnson would’ve done?!!! 33 isn’t old for a HW, he was outboxed and looked fat, unimaginative and unambitious, exactly like he did vs Klitshcko- pretty much like any American heavyweight (most of their adult population would easily qualify for the heavyweight divisions!)
Well done Fury.

Posted December 1, 2012 8:21 pm

Limey jay

Credit where it’s due…..fury boxed extremely well tonight, he creates angles and throws feints and then gets nice some nice combinations off , and looks very quick…..I can’t fault his performance……but Johnson was poor…vey lacklustre indeed, fury can take some of the credit for that….keeping his jab working and letting his punches go to keep kingpin backing up, but Johnson looked to be very lazy and did,nt look like he came to win to me……easy for me to say that of course, cos I ain’t being punched in the face as I type this……..for the record I think that fury is a more natural boxer than David price, with faster hands and better footwork…..but price hits like a mule, is very heavy handed and seems to have more focus than Tyson fury, when price hits you you stay hit……that’s what makes the fight so interesting for me and I hope they can share a ring sometime soon.
As for whiskers we have seen Tyson get off the deck and finish his opponent before, as for price ….well we still don’t know how his chin well hold up from a big shot, or even for a fast combination ….will he panic and make a mistake leaving himself open for a finisher?
I know fury gets plenty of stick, I myself have given him some in the past ……but tonight he boxed to orders and did it vey well i thought, all be it against a man who looked like he came for a cheque and a break from the missus.
I liked what I saw from fury , he seems to be improving his technique, and is looking fitter all the time, as I said before credit where it’s due, so well done to Tyson…..I look forward to seeing how he progresses .

Michael Grant is lethal, The Klitschkos and Price will try to avoid fighting him like a dose of the clap against antibiotics.

Posted December 1, 2012 7:33 pm

KL

Even though this is obviously a Hennessy/ Fury ticket………….. It would be nice if CH5 commentary team would acknowledge that Johnson didn’t come to the party tonight, instead of banging on and on about how “world class” Johnson went the distance with Vitali………it was obvious to anyone by round 4 that Johnson didn’t bring any fireworks with him.
It was also annoying that the CH5 commentators thought the boos were because Fury didn’t go for the KO…………it wasn’t…….they booed because the “World class” Johnson failed to engage or even attempt to deliver what he said he was going to do.
The crowd didn’t want to see a sparring session tonight……..they wanted a fight……hell even the ref had to warn both fighters that the crowd had paid to see a fight.

Fury showed discipline and good conditioning in going 12 rounds and dominating almost the entire fight. Johnson didn’t do a GD thing but avoid a beating, which is what I expected. He’s a gatekeeper now.

Posted December 1, 2012 7:14 pm

KL

The boos from the crowd were because they paid to see a fight………..they didn’t get one because Johnson only started letting some shots off in the final round!
Johnson was poor……….but in truth less than 3 weeks notice was always going to be a disadvantage to Johnson’s chances.
I disagree with the Ch5 commentary, I don’t think Johnson is “world class”…………..I world class fighter would throw a lot more leather than Johnson did tonight.
As for Fury………he looks much fitter than I have seen him and threw some decent shots …………but he didn’t get the “test” that most wanted to see him get.

Posted December 1, 2012 7:13 pm

Gonzo the Dragonborn – ESB poster of the year 2012

Good performance by Fury. I’ve always maintained he had bags of natural talent and that he could do well if he knuckled down in the gym and got himself into decent shape, particularly if he focused on doing more strength and conditioning work, which to his credit he has done. He looked a lot less cumbersome in there tonight than he has in the past and his hand speed was very good, especially for someone of his gargantuan dimensions. He’s always had great punch variety and I love the way he creates angles to find openings for his shots as well. His stamina was very impressive too. The fight against Price is shaping up nicely now and I just hope they can get it on before one of them loses.

Posted December 1, 2012 7:11 pm

Wlad_God

I think Fury did well, everyone crushing on him need to realize, Johnson is a tough SOB, compared to Price, who I also like, he has fought alot more/tougher fighters at a YOUNG age. I think Johnson can be taken out, but it would be body work to do it, hence the reason Vitali didn’t knock him out and I bet, I wouldnt knock him out either.

Posted December 1, 2012 7:10 pm

Koolz

Demon Price would knock Fury down and it would be all over. Both can get hit , but I think Fury is a little bit edgy on his game, not as smooth and get’s hit with jabs quite a bit.
I don’t see him beating Price. Cool if they ever Fought, Fury has been ducking Price.
