nicolasI agree with anonymous on this. I think perhaps the only reason for the team concept is for economic reasons. I for one would rather have a monthly tournament like system, where they could be involved in such a tournament once a month with some prize money attached. Almost like what they have I guess in Britain. Also I would want to allow fighters who are involved in the pro ranks of guys who sometimes fight in even 12 round pro fights. This would allow many fighters to keep busier, and not always depend on promoters, who might have their fights cancelled because the main event on the card had to be cancelled. This might also help the ailing sport, and bring back life to it. What the World Series of Boxing has only succeeded in really doing is further fractionalizing the sport, when it could really try to bring it together Posted December 4, 2012 11:58 pmAnonymousI like that what the World Series of Boxing is trying to do. Taking amatuer fighters and giving them a transition into what it’s like in the pro’s.(While maintaining their amatuer status if I’m not correct.) It also gets fighters experience traveling. The only thing I’m not really a fan of is that it’s team based. I think it’s a great idea, but boxing isn’t about teams. It’s just you in there. I thought that’s where the television show The Contender went wrong as well. Focusing to much on team based events when in boxing it’s just you and your trainer, etc. I think for the World Series kids building the team spirit can work if they were all potential Olympic Team candidates, but that’s what USA Boxing is for. I hate to criticize because boxing can use all the help it can get and I love watching the World Series of Boxing or ANY Boxing for that matter. I just feel to really get them ready for the professional level it shouldn’t be team based. I think it’d be cooler if each weight class was working towards a trophy or belt like in the Golden Gloves.
