DudeEver been in the ring, Bill, as an amateur or a pro? No, didn’t think so… Posted August 16, 2012 2:44 pmnicolasI question why these guys want to stay in the amateur ranks. I also question the term amateur today in the Olympic boxing style, as I believe some of the fighters from Khazakztan are being rewarded for there efforts. Hasn’t even a dissapointment like Audley Harrison done very well financially in the professional ranks? It would see like a no brainer to me to go into the pro ranks. Posted August 15, 2012 12:10 pmprideofvirginiabeachJoshua should just go pro. The man could do damage in England already. You could throw him in with a Sexton or a McDermott and already guarantee a KO win for him. I wouldn’t Leon Spinks him and ruin him, but he could fast track up the ranks better than Price or Fury. Posted August 14, 2012 1:45 pmTony1244His style looks more suited to the pro ranks. I wouldn’t put him in with a real challenge for about 3 years. He may be holding out for more money. He could certainly beat all the guys Deontay Wilder has beaten, beating Deontay himself may be another matter. Posted August 14, 2012 10:30 amTony1244I thought Savon edged him in a close fight. I’ve always heard amateur scoring was on the tap system, whomever lands more, regardless of power wins the round. I don’t like this kind of scoring, but if you go by the amateur scoring, Joshua won his last match IMO. But he was hurt fairly badly at the end of the 1st and 2nd rounds. He’s no Ali or Lewis now, he’s about where Bruno is, which isn’t bad at all, considering he just started 4 years ago. Posted August 14, 2012 10:11 amLeninIt’s obvious that he knows that he would get his ass handed as a pro. But, oh no, the next Olympic games take place in Brazil and not in the UK! No more gift decisions. Awwww, life ain’t fair. Posted August 14, 2012 10:10 amCallumKlitsckos are terrible boxers and Ruined the pro game wish they never went pro Posted August 14, 2012 9:44 amTrevorJoshua looked over his shoulder and saw Deon`Tay Wilder and wisely decided it was best to remain amateur for the next 8 years until Wilder starts to age then he will turn pro. Posted August 14, 2012 7:23 amColI’m English, patriotic, but I thought Joshua lost. The whole amateur judging system is a mess, brought in hastily because of obviously biased judging. This current system is still rubbish, though. Posted August 14, 2012 7:01 amCurtleyAt least he didn’t get sent home for being a cheat like your hero Vitali :!: Posted August 14, 2012 4:56 amMixI’d like to see him turn pro. But he’s gotta be handled properly so as not to turn out like Audley. Ideally he should have between 10-12 low key fights in the UK & abroad before even fighting for the Southern Area title. Then move slowly to English, British, EBU & Commonwealth belts. In 8 years time he’ll be 30, the Klitschko’s would have gone & at 36 David Price will be on his way. His future could be very bright. Posted August 14, 2012 4:49 amjacksongood idea, joshua is not ready for the pro-ranks. he is close in age to tyson and they are big heavyweights many years from their prime, and neither of them stands a chance against vladimir. so waiting a few years, sparring with professionals, getting upper body weight off…then he can leap into the professional ranks when he is physically and mentally ready. he needs many years to develop, his slowness and stiffness may be due to uncertainty and his late start… Posted August 14, 2012 3:46 amBill (KlichKO brothers are the best REAL HEAVYWEIGHTS ever)Anthony Joshua is a FAKE OLYMPIC CHAMPION. Clearly lost two fights but got domestic decisions from bribed judges. AMATEUR BOXING IS TOTALLY ROTTEN. It’s fact…Anyway I think the dude have to turn pro. His amateur achievement mean nothing. Let him try to get some respect on pro level. If he is sht (and I am sure he IS) he’ll get his ass kicked. The only thing why Tony doesn’t wanna go pro is he’s afraid he’s not nearly as good as it takes to succeed in the heavyweight division…FAKE OLYMPIC CHAMPION FOREVER. Posted August 14, 2012 12:52 ambrian leeBut all the officials were from neutral countries,Unlike pro boxing here. Posted August 13, 2012 8:29 pmTony1244Joshua may be just talking to hold out for more money. If that’s the case he’s very smart. Sugar Ray Leonard did this in 1976. He talked about not turning pro, which only made people want him to turn pro more , so Sugar ended up with more money. Either Joshua is a smart business man or he feels as though he wants to beat Savon and the Italian on his terms. Posted August 13, 2012 8:05 pmGod Is Santa For AdultsExpect Joshua to turn pro in 2013 Posted August 13, 2012 7:28 pmPistol PeteHe should turn pro and build on the strong momentum of winning an Olympic gold medal. There is no guarantee that he will win gold again four years from now. Posted August 13, 2012 6:03 pmCurlyQ.HowardGosh, then the fix must really be in! Posted August 13, 2012 5:28 pmMark RuddHe will lose to Savon at Rio if he goes. Right now, he looks an awful lot like Frank Bruno, not that that’s a bad thing. I thought he pretty much got hometown decisions against Savon and Cammerelle, but I do think he would be a better pro than Cammerelle. Posted August 13, 2012 3:07 pmbrian leeWell if he turns pro & has some success i hope the Brits will treat him better than many of them treated Khan.Maybe he said some foolish stuff but he is one of the better fighter out of UK in the last few years. Posted August 13, 2012 2:05 pmRay WinstoneMore like a couple of months and he will be a world champ. Posted August 13, 2012 2:01 pmTony1244Joshua should be at least as good as Frank Bruno. Would like to see him and the Italian guy turn pro, but if they don’t want to, I doubt they’ll listen to me. Posted August 13, 2012 1:13 pmPaul McCreathThe pro and amateur games are so different today that I question how much he can gain by remaining amateur another 4 years.I would rather see him turn pro now and just ignore the pressure to advance quickly. He could take 5 or 6 years to learn the necessary skills and make a good living while he does it. Posted August 13, 2012 1:09 pmTony1244Why? Posted August 13, 2012 12:22 pm2slickHe’s not good enough to do anything yet and will learn more at the elite end of the amateur spectrum than the lower echelons of a pro division that is in dire straits. The public at this point would not be happy for him to have 20 odd fights to build his skills and the guys in the top 10 right now are not that far removed from club fighters. He won’t learn any more fighting domestic journeymen than he would the top amateurs and he would be under much more pressure. At this stage not necessary. Posted August 13, 2012 11:51 amThe KingslayerHmm it’s his choice but we could do with Joshua in the pro’s right now. Posted August 13, 2012 11:34 amChuchoIf as a pro he gets the same support from the officials he had in the olympics, he’ll be world champion in a couple of years ! Posted August 13, 2012 11:16 am2slickBest thing for him to do IMO. He is incredibly raw. With all the clouded hatred following the lad people are ignoring the fact he is essentially a relative novice. He has achieved a great deal in a short space of time, silver at the worlds, Olympic gold, ABA winner. But he needs a lot of work. He also needs to be able to develop at his own pace rather than that set in a media bubble. Another year or so and the focus will shift from him a bit and he will be able to progress at a natural pace out of the spotlight. I think he’ll make a good pro, he has good solid punches with a lot of power. He doesn’t need to rush to the pro ranks he has time on his side. Doubt he’ll wait until Rio however. Posted August 13, 2012 11:10 amNeil (pomy)Fair enough ….. he has still some development to do. Dont leave it too long though Joshua. Hopefully Luke Campbell will turn pro soon.
