I also question the term amateur today in the Olympic boxing style, as I believe some of the fighters from Khazakztan are being rewarded for there efforts. Hasn’t even a dissapointment like Audley Harrison done very well financially in the professional ranks? It would see like a no brainer to me to go into the pro ranks. I’ve always heard amateur scoring was on the tap system, whomever lands more, regardless of power wins the round. I don’t like this kind of scoring, but if you go by the amateur scoring, Joshua won his last match IMO. But he was hurt fairly badly at the end of the 1st and 2nd rounds. He’s no Ali or Lewis now, he’s about where Bruno is, which isn’t bad at all, considering he just started 4 years ago. The public at this point would not be happy for him to have 20 odd fights to build his skills and the guys in the top 10 right now are not that far removed from club fighters. He won’t learn any more fighting domestic journeymen than he would the top amateurs and he would be under much more pressure. At this stage not necessary. With all the clouded hatred following the lad people are ignoring the fact he is essentially a relative novice. He has achieved a great deal in a short space of time, silver at the worlds, Olympic gold, ABA winner. But he needs a lot of work. He also needs to be able to develop at his own pace rather than that set in a media bubble. Another year or so and the focus will shift from him a bit and he will be able to progress at a natural pace out of the spotlight. I think he’ll make a good pro, he has good solid punches with a lot of power. He doesn’t need to rush to the pro ranks he has time on his side. Doubt he’ll wait until Rio however.
