Ray*You have got to be retarded to think Peterson isnt a cheat. Posted August 15, 2012 8:45 amDanny ShooterThe guy was found to have an illegal substance in his body, so he was caught cheating he should be banned for 2 years end of story. Posted August 15, 2012 8:12 amADI don`t really think this exonerates Peterson. He didn`t take the testosterone unknowingly, he knew full well he had taken it, he just either forgot or decided not to apply for the therapeutic exemption, and therefore denied the authorities the right to investigate the legitimacy BEFORE the positive was found. His punishment should take the circumstances into account, but we can`t allow retrospective therapeutic exemptions and maintain the integrity of the strict liability system. Fight Aficionado“it would seem obvious there intent to do so wasn’t there. Common sense would seem to dictate the need for VADA to go a little further and earn their money before simply announcing a PED has been detected.” – Wrong. What’s obvious is Peterson was juiced on testosterone. This comes down to credibility. Who has more credibility, the IBF or VADA? 99 out of 100 will say VADA. Further, do you believe facts or excuses? Fact: Positive test result. Excuse: Peterson’s claim he did not take testosterone to boost performance. I’ll take facts and an unblemished reputation over excuses and the sullied rep of a boxing governing body. Posted August 15, 2012 1:45 amHidalgo“plan.” Posted August 15, 2012 12:50 amHidalgoBTW Ozzy, “no such value exists” also holds true for blood pressure, because everyone’s blood pressure is at least slight different from the next person’s. But there is a known range, and there are known symptoms of health problems caused by high or low blood pressure. Same things can be said for testosterone levels. Posted August 15, 2012 12:48 amHidalgo“No such value exists as the level of testosterone in a male will vary widely throughout the population.” Listen, Ozzy, the same layman’s synopsis can be stated about blood pressure–that it varies widely throughout the population. Yet, people do suffer and die from high blood pressure. My point is, how do doctors diagnose high blood pressure? When do they know to do something about it? Or low blood pressure? So what if “we” don’t know what Peterson’s testosterone level was prior to the Khan fight. Who are YOU to challenge the independent physician’s diagnosis and treatment? Your problem is just that you want so badly for Peterson to be a cheater. And you badly want to prove that he is. Well, here’s your chance. Prove it. Stop babbling. Just prove it. With facts. Posted August 15, 2012 12:45 amHidalgo“two-bit website.” I see. Now you’re a website expert as well. Bet you’ve done loads of research on the WebMD website haven’t you? Just like you have proof that Peterson took testosterone to recover from steroid us. Sure, dude. Show me the money. Posted August 15, 2012 12:36 amHidalgoNo problem Ozzy. I’ll agree with anything you say—as soon as you prove to me that you know for a fact, that Peterson’s low testosterone levels occurred as a result of him taking steroids. Just prove it dude. I’ll lay my sword down at your feet. But until then….you’re just ranting. Posted August 15, 2012 12:35 amHidalgoSo? We’re going to shoot down every athlete who tests positive without giving him or her a chance to exhonerate themselves? Just ban any old athlete from the sport forever? That the way you want it? Listen, Chap and Chip–hmmm, there’s an odd duo–anyways, listen boys, he already paid the price for testing positive didn’t he? Deprived of a major fight and purse. Stripped of a title. Lambasted by the media. So, one organization made a different decision than another. Big deal. What else is new in the world of boxing? Perhaps you prefer Abner Mares being awarded titles for hitting an opponent below the belt so many times that his balls were knocked up to his chin. Yeah, that’s it. What about that type of cheating? Even though that fight should have been stopped while it was happening. Bet neither one of you pissed and moaned about that. Posted August 15, 2012 12:31 amHidalgo“Using steroids and then tapering or stopping will lower your testosterone levels, hence LP having his “low testosterone levels”.” Chip, you’re full of sh!t. How the F would you know that Peterson had low testosterone levels because he was using steroids? Oh I know. Because you don’t believe him, you’re right? Right? I can’t hear you! Hack a little louder! Posted August 15, 2012 12:24 amchip kelly teflon donExactly. Posted August 14, 2012 4:23 pmozzyYour figures are lifted from a 2-bit website and many doctors would argue with you about these limits. Peterson’s testosterone levels are not known at the time of the Khan fight they could have been much higher than the levels eventually found in March. You don’t need more proof about Peterson’s guilt as he had at least 3 opportunities to come clean. If all is okay as you say why didn’t he come clean. I’ve been trying to tell you why he didn’t but clearly I’m banging my head against a brick wall. If this “low testosterone treatment” BS is allowed I can guarantee that over the next few years we will see more and more of these situations crop up. It currently feels like I’m the only one who sees the danger in this situation. One thing’s for sure I shall always regard Peterson and his wonderful team as drug cheats which is exactly what they are! Posted August 14, 2012 3:00 pmchap69Stick to the basics everyone – he tested positive ! Posted August 14, 2012 2:44 pmchip kelly teflon donNice try playing devils advocate. Either you were doing that or you are extremely naive about the rampant use and underground world of PED’s. You made absolutely no mention of therapudic use exemption/TUE in the state of nevada and how the levels for that, that are acceptable are a 6:1 ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone as where WADA’s are 4:1. Reason being is unspoken but well understood. Commision, promoters and everyone involved in making fights happen, know that PED’s are widespread. If tests come back positive all the time-over the ratio, then their would be A LOT of canceled fights and BIG names getting smeared. This is why Nevada gives more tolerence i.e. the 6:1 ratio. Also about the weak bones and all that, its also widely known in the doping community that using certain steroids will make your tendons, and bones weaker after coming off the substance. That is why they keep doing the steroids after they taper off and after the fight training for the next. Using steroids and then tapering or stopping will lower your testosterone levels, hence LP having his “low testosterone levels”. Its like an opiate addict using dope then stopping. His brain was used to synethicly and over manufacturing endorphins, the brain stops making them for its self. Same exact deal with roids or any drug. Yoiu need to do some homework before writing another typical eastside hack writer piece of garbage. Posted August 14, 2012 12:13 pmDyabolicPeterson volunteered for VADA testing cause he didn’t plan on VADA doing the CIR testing. Remember the initial test showed negative till VADA performed the CIR testing. And that’s when he got caught. How come he never reported that he was receiving TRT? Posted August 14, 2012 12:09 pmPistol PeteI think VADA got it right. Because even though it appears that Peterson is innocent it`s always better to err on the side of caution. Posted August 14, 2012 10:53 amHidalgoOzzy, testosterone levels in males may very but there are established, acceptably low and high level baselines. From the WebMD.com website: “The bottom of a man’s normal total testosterone range is about 300 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL). The upper limits are 1,000 to 1,200 ng/dL.” The article goes on to say, “Low testosterone scores often lead to drops in bone density, meaning that bones become more fragile and increasingly prone to breaks.” It also discusses how low testosterone levels can cause other health problems. Furthermore, Peterson VOLINTARILY joined VADA. So, I don’t know about you but it makes no sense to me that Peterson would try to “cheat” after voluntarily agreeing to testing which would reveal such cheating. Additionally, the VADA Mission Statement says, “Through voluntary participation, VADA aims to help protect the health and safety of athletes who are willing to demonstrate their commitment to clean sport,” and goes on to say, ” ozzyAll this is b0ll0cks and the IBF know it. The article writer doesn’t appreciate that VADA nor anyone else can say exactly what a theurapeutic amount of testosterone is and what isn’t because it is down to medical opinion and what one panel of doctors will say is usually totally different to another. Team Peterson have used this situation along with a suitably chosen panel (independent my arse) to get his name cleared. And btw we have no idea what level of testosterone was in Peterson’s body prior to the Khan fight as he wasn’t tested by VADA until March (I think). The writer asks “whats wrong with normal?” which is totally the wrong question as it should be “what is normal?”. No such value exists as the level of testosterone in a male will vary widely throughout the population. Team Peterson and the IBF are using this situation to come up with conclusions that are just plain wrong. Please think before you are taken in by this hocus-pocus – if this decision stands it opens the door to all manner of low testosterone claims from boxers with an onboard doctor and lawyer please see them for what they are… drug cheats!!! Posted August 14, 2012 8:33 ampugfanBoxing should adapt Nascar’s stringent guide lines for drug testing and suspensions. Posted August 14, 2012 7:40 amUJelly? It’s up to Team Peterson to report medicinal use of such drugs and get an exemption by the relevant governing bodies. SizzleI don’t completely agree but great article. This perspective is possible ad could hurt their business in the future. Posted August 14, 2012 1:31 amIBF gangstaIBF organization runs by porch monkey Lindsey tucker the new modern day Tony Montana. It shouldn’t be irrelevant, most porch monkeys is fighting for IBF rules to make enough to highlight the relevance of the situation. If this situation goes out to another person, he already had been sent to Oblivion. Posted August 13, 2012 6:48 pmPEEJDont think they jumped the gun but there are some revisions that are necessary. Peterson in this case should not have been stripped of any titles, Khan should apologize for his dumb and stupid outburts which get annoying everytime he speaks. But no they did not jump the gun, they need to let the proper folks know of the findings that they show Posted August 13, 2012 6:06 pmDa UnKnown ComicI agree with Miatesvallenverga. Cheaterson and his ENTIRE team knew what they were doing. How do you FORGET to tell the commissions TWICE? Forgot? Please. Obviously this guy had wayyy more in his system before the first fight- and still needed a judges help. A REAL doctor (not hired by TMT/haymon to facilitate the Judah fight) said that the reason why Peterson’s testosterone was so low had to do with prior steroid use. This is a joke. Everybody ante-up, buy the dope, get a goo doctor, and come up with a song and dance excuse and you’ll win your case too. Posted August 13, 2012 5:59 pmexactly! This guy FORGOT he had surgery to improve his biology only months before the biggest fight of his life. If thats not seeking an unfair advantage i dont know what is. This article screams loud and clear everything that is wrong for with boxing. I’m shocked that anyone is offering up any excuses. Peterson should accept the way he acted was wrong irrespective of any issues with his biology and take the punishment. I whole heatedly agree with the previous post about khan taking drugs to aid his chin Posted August 13, 2012 5:54 pmurone2I don’t agree with the logic of the writer, VADA has to raise the red flag because there are a lot of ways to mask the PED’s where small levels of the PED appear. Whenever there is the slight chance that PED’s could be in use to gain an advantage there should be further investigation of the reason it is present. If VADA turned a blind eye to every little blip boxing may as well stay with the current testing that finds nothing. Peterson is only one of a few cases where, the VADA has found a case of substance abuse where it was clear explained. There are many cases of out right cheats that have been beating the system for years, and there will continue to be cheats that beat the system as long as there are large amounts of money involed. Posted August 13, 2012 4:16 pmSamaIs this guy an idiot he should do some research on testostrone to find out exactly how performance enhancing it actually is it can give a 40 year old the energy and performance of a 20 year old and “normal levels” can mean anything as the variation in levels is huge and open to interpretation and any guy that is training and eating well i.e a boxer should have normal levels as testostrone anyway guys with low t can’t even get off the couch let alone be ripped and a pro boxer Posted August 13, 2012 4:04 pmPaul McCreathThere is nothing wrong with the idea of taking testosterone under prescription in order to bring levels back to normal. What is wrong is doing so without prior approval of the authorities. This was just plain stupid on Peterson’s part so don’t blame VADA.The proper way of doing things like this is well established with athletes everywhere. Posted August 13, 2012 3:46 pmboxerpuncherWow, what a f’n joke. Our beloved sport lies in shambles with corruption and the likes … than there’s poop like this … simply amazing … boxing doesn’t need lazy testers … Posted August 13, 2012 3:42 pmCALIBAGreat Article!!! Posted August 13, 2012 3:27 pmhmmm…NOT Auto correct Posted August 13, 2012 2:25 pmhmmm…Edit hmmm…Where do you draw the line? Peterson’s testosterone level is the one that is natural to him, he took drugs to increase that above his natural level so he has an amount the same as some statistical average. Why is that ok, but taking drugs to improve some other aspect of your natural physical state may not be? The average population should but come into this at all, at the end of the day, it’s gaining an advantage with the aid of drugs…that’s performance enhancing. If it were possible, should Khan be allowed drugs that gave him an average chin. Should slow fighter be allowed to take something to increase his speed to average? Posted August 13, 2012 2:22 pmAnonymousthis is stupid, its the fighters responsibility to disclose to VADA any type of substances, especially ones that are banned if there is a legitimate medical reason. Why would you put the burden of proof on the agency, its the fighters fault for not speaking up.
