Posted December 10, 2012 9:51 pmTex HasslerPacquiao may have had one fight too many. I felt he should have retired a year or so ago while he was still on top. Now I guess Pacquiao vs Mayweather will never happen but it might have never happened any way. I felt Pacquiao at his peak 4 years ago was the better man. Posted December 10, 2012 9:00 pmTex HasslerTex Hassler says – I have felt for some time that Pacquiao needed to retire while he was on top. I guess Mayweather is kicking himself for not fighting Pacquiao instead of letting Marquez fight him but Floyd had not control over that. This was a great win for Marquez even at this stage of his career. He should also retire now. But it appears Marquez has been doing much differently to prepare for this bout. As we all know, the definition of insanity is to repeat the same behavior and expect a different result. Manny appears to be repeating his behavior where Marquez is changing his up. We shall see. Posted December 8, 2012 6:37 pmOld YankTomato Can — Thank you for the comments. Posted December 8, 2012 4:39 pmVINMANold yank , as usual wrong again. lol, JMM has never beat MP! no matter what or who says it! Secondly to read your thread I would swear that MP was 39 years old JMM was an up and comer. “Pretender to the Throne” This is where your train derails because even if PAC has loss a step so has JMM he is no spring chicken. That’s a big problem for JMM because he has to pick his battles cannot afford to get in a war with MP over 12 rounds JMM simply will not last and he knows that. JMM only hope is to continue to counter off MP aggression. As for the snipes at Roach, pretty low of you to try to assert that Chavez loss was somehow Freddie’s fault. Chavez barely paid attention to Roach instruction or training. Free money for Roach. Posted December 8, 2012 4:37 pmk.c.Puntang, whats your major malfunction boy?! As Roach says, most fans would kiss his ass if that’s natural. Look for a shocking Tito Trinidad –type KO around the 5th round by the Pac Man. Posted December 8, 2012 2:25 pmWayneI went on wiki and can’t seem to find what your talking about. It has the 3 official judges and 4 members of ring magazine. 1 had it for PAC 115-113. 2 for Marquez 115-113 and 117-111. The other a draw. That sounds like a very close fight to me. I’m tired of hearing people claim that Marquez won the fight hands down. It was close. And let’s say 2/3 (probably closer to 1/2) of the boxing public thought Marquez won that still means that it was a very close fight! Pacquiao* bout are now picking Marquez to win(?). what is particularly offensive is citing Pacquiao’s* decline(?) for this prediction rather than a desire for justice to prevail over the promotional illusion of Punkuiao’s* “greatness”. bottomline, the only one whose in immediate danger of decline or absolute breakdown is the 39-yeaar-old Marquez. otherwise, Pacquiao* is the same single-fisted, one-dimensional, ring-dumb puncher he’s always been. it is swee and poetic justice that it will be a truly great and legendary fighter like Marquez that will finally rid my favorite sport of its most corrupting element. “Duro-Duro-Duro!” War Marquez . . . WAR . . . and Peace to the Old Yank. Posted December 8, 2012 12:49 pmOld YankQueenie — Read the article again and you might catch the name of the fighter Pac fought. I admire Pacquiao greatly — I thought the admiration was fairly clear. Sorry you missed that too. Posted December 8, 2012 12:35 pmTomato CanActually It looked to me that Pacquiao fought Bradley very different. He didn’t fight for his normal 3 minutes a round. He fought maybe a minute and a half per round. I think Manny should have won the Bradley fight, but for whatever reason, that wasn’t the Pacquiao that I’ve been accustom to seeing. And at 147 Manny, looks less pumped/ripped than he has since moving past 135 pounds. In any case, I think we all know Manny will come to fight like the true warrior he is. Posted December 8, 2012 12:29 pmTomato CanPacquiao looks as though he’s just going through the motions at this point. Is he hungry? Probably not, but that’s to be expected. On the other hand the older Marquez is as hungry as ever to beat Pacquiao. He feels he’s never got his due in their fights. This could be the difference. Posted December 8, 2012 12:25 pmGodsavethequeenThe old Wank at it again!!! It’s funny you usr thr Bradley fight to show how Manny has supposedly slip. But that fight was way better than the Jmm 3 fight and Pac never lost to Bradley all real boxing supporters know that, hence why no one is mad about no rematch. Tomato CanOld Yank, you hit the nail in the head with this article. You can see the spark vacating the Pacquiao aura. Hopefully, he’ll put on a great performance, like he always does against Marquez. I think all the Marquez and Pacquiao fights could have gone either way, depending on which set of lenses you were looking through. That’s how close their fights have been. But now we’re approaching the end of a pretty good era, I’ll miss fighters like Pacquiao, and Marquez… Posted December 8, 2012 12:21 pmIt’s Me, ErnieOverrated is one word. J/K, nice article, thanks… Posted December 8, 2012 12:02 pmAldawgThe Old man hoping to cash in on the 4-1 odds and has written a Christmas wish. Marquez is a great fighter, but he’s not immune to getting hit. A more determined Pacquiao in this fight will capitalize on that. I would not bet against speed and power just yet. Posted December 8, 2012 11:37 amPhillPinoy, making an observation over Pac’s natural slippage can hardly be considered hate. The writer clearly referred to him as a winner and acknowledges his greatness. Posted December 8, 2012 11:28 amOld YankPinoy — Someone will win and someone will lose. I’ve been a Pacquiao fan for a long, long time. My eyes detect slippage. Just calling it like I see it. Perhaps you see Pacquiao winning until he’s 50. I don’t. That lost step you mentioned is absolutely key to Pacs success and probably his demise. That impromptu staccato step was what allowed Manny to close that distance before his foe’s could let their hands go,didn’t see that rapid step hardly at all against desert storm. Maybe his calves were tight. . . . Lol. Posted December 8, 2012 10:10 amOld YankThank you. I’ve not written on this site in an age, so we share a return. Much appreciated. Posted December 8, 2012 9:58 amOld YankThanks for the comments and thanks for catching the errors I’d normally catch via my careful editing. It was a late night and for reasons I can;t explain I felt a need to come out of retirement for this bout and write something. It was a tad hurried. Posted December 8, 2012 8:57 amRichSadly Old One you are looking through a glass darkly …..Pacq will take Marq again this time….All the whiners and wingers on here will retire to lick there wounds and look as vacant as you will….Then like a bad smell you all will arise to give your definition of how Pacq didn’t really win, then with no more ammunition but blanks tell the world it was a corrupt decision …Ah, but this time it will be different, because Marq will not hear the man count ten……….By the the way Old Yank I hope your boy is doing well….My regards to you both…… Posted December 8, 2012 8:42 amlefhookMaybe the drugs made him great?? no. funny how the form drops off after Mayweather asks for testing. I remember Pac was one who critics thought is not what he is today – they where wrong. We all think he is fading- Let’s see tomorrow night. Posted December 8, 2012 8:22 amPopkins“Yep, a few spelling errors, nut nicely written.” …but…Lol. Posted December 8, 2012 8:00 amPopkinsYep, a few spelling errors, nut nicely written. I agree Old Yank. One of Pacman’s most impressive attributes over the years has been his ability to sustain an incredible work rate, and high tempo pace, allowing him to overwhelm opponents. Unfortunately age has caught up with him and he clearly has stamina issues (by his standards anyway) these days. Personally, I hope and predict he’ll KO JMM within 5 rounds this time. An early victory like this over an old Marquez will cover up the cracks, but Manny is ripe for the taking now, and by fighters he would have comfortably outworked/beaten three or four years ago. Still, I hope he looks like the old Pacman tonight – one last time. Posted December 8, 2012 7:57 amHey, that’s my Bike!!!I thought the spelling was Senchenko, Chavez Jr and Paquiao? Did you mean “peddles” or ‘petals’? At the end there, do you mean ‘scent’ rather than “sent”? I enjoyed this article to the point that you favour JMM yet you give fair reasoning without bias, or bashing of Paquiao. Other writers could learn from this objectivity. For the record I think JMM will win this one also. Posted December 8, 2012 6:55 amBeatsyOld Yank – I really liked this article.
