Happyboy, you misunderstood my post…and it’s my fault entirely for not wording it specifically. As a journalist, one must always remember that words can be viewed different ways.
What I meant to convey was that I didn’t understand why so many were so happy that Pacquiao was brutally KO’d and not so much that Marquez finally got his signature win on his resume.
To be honest with you, the Hatton KO and the Williams KO disturbed me. Just like the Pacquiao KO disturbed me on Saturday night.
Maybe it’s because I talk to most of these guys that I view the sport a little differently than most die-hard boxing fans.
The sport of boxing is brutal…although Sugar Hill is a friend of mine and I was genuinely happy for him and Johnathon Banks, I was also genuinely heart broken for Seth Mitchell. Getting to know Seth over the past year and a half made the outcome very bittersweet for me.
Or maybe I’m just becoming less of a blood thirsty fight fan in my old age.
I was merely speaking relatively when I made my original post…I hope this clears everything up for you.Posted December 10, 2012 3:53 pm
Joe Herron – no hard feelings it just seems weird that a boxing writer would question why boxing fans celebrate a tremendous KO like the one from Marquez while Manny rose to fame with exactly the same type demolition job. How you would even consider Manny a great ambassador of the sport while he totally refused more stringent drug tests to this day in a sport infested with PED use is beyond me.Posted December 10, 2012 1:49 pm

Angel Hereida (PED Supplier to Olympians) not have been involved in any way. Angel He saved his ass by snitching out others in the BALCO scandal, and even stated how he did it, and how there were plenty of ways to mask the them. I know JMM fans are roaming the streets still salivating after the KO, but using this guy shouldn’t have been allowed. He was busted by the Federal Government, so why allow this guy into a sport? JMM never had power like this. before and never had his upper torso shredded like did. Boxing needs to have the most thorough testing around or guys can possibly cheat. If JMM tested clean then so be it. He won, and should get credit, but it’s high suspect watching him train live at different camps. Mariods is noticeably bigger for a guy that was smaller than Manny before. Mariods power was a heavyweights not a welterweight. lets see the test results asap !Posted December 10, 2012 7:50 am
I would hold judgment on Marquez until the results of the urine and blood samples are made public! If marquez won nice and clean then, I salute him!Mexicans and Filipinos will admire him! But if he needed to juice up just to beat Pacquiao, then he would go down in history as the most shameful boxer ever!Posted December 9, 2012 11:46 pm

I don’t think JMM was any Performance Enhancing Drugs during the time of the fight. If he was, then he would have never been knocked down by Manny Pacquiao. JMM did, however, looked in the best shape of his life which I like to think was due to new exercises and hard training. JMM said he wanted to knock Pac-man out to take the judges cards out of the equation and he did just that. It’s easier said than done but if you fought the same guy for 3 times in the past, you tend to pick up some weaknesses from that the other fighter makes. Granted, it took 4 tries for JMM to successfully defeat one of the greatest boxers who ever lived but true greatness was performed by JMM that night.
Most fighters would never want to fight the same person that many times but I have to give it to JMM for challenging his career and himself as a person in never giving up.
Manny Pacquiao has been knocked out before recently, lets not forget.Posted December 9, 2012 4:22 pm

Pacquiao’s* inability to stick with a winning fight-plan is what distinguishes Marquez as the ATGreater. through swollen eyes, cut brows, broken noses, and mouthfuls of blood, Marquez has never deviated from his central fight-plan of baiting, trapping, and eliminating opponents. even Juan Diaz experienced initial success during his fight v. Marquez while also being softened-up with crunching counters that ultimately set him up for the KO win for Marquez. this fight was no different. cut; bloodied; and somewhat rusty; Juan persevered and completed his mission in Devastating fashion. he not only exploited but counted on Pacquiao’s* own weakness to make this happen. it’s not magic; it’s not enhancers; it’s sweet science. introducing Dr. Marquez’s “Big Bang Theory”. Btw, i wouldn’t mind seeing RIos v. Pacquiao* but Manny* should be made to make 140lbs for that bout. it’s time for Pacquiao* to once again experience and not only benefit from Arum’s business of Boxing.Posted December 9, 2012 1:53 pm

You can’t teach a chin to take a punch. Hearns was notorious for having a glass jaw. Khan did too and no amount of training or conditioning could change that. Pac got hit hard and there is no such thing as an iron chin in Boxing. Just questioning where Marquez all of a sudden got his power by turning 39 and moving up in weight division. Usually you lose power when that happens. Now he’s knocking down and knocking out Pacquiao with one punch? The same guy who went through the best of Barrera, Morales, Cotto and big Margarito, and didn’t go down? Hmm..Posted December 9, 2012 12:36 pm
I’m not saying he took anything but i understand why people may have some doubt. 36 rounds he couldn’t drop Pacquaio but now he can twice at 39. Ko of the year without any doubt but i understand why some fans have doubt.Posted December 9, 2012 12:16 pm

You guy keep talking about the Floyd fight that was over three years ago leave it alone. JMM made the jump from 135 to 147 for that fight. He’s had plenty of time to work on all that by now don’t you think or maybe y’all thought he would continue to look like that. I’m 5’7″ and weigh 170 right now in great shape but I wouldn’t look like this at 185 but in three years time I’d be in superb conditioning by farPosted December 9, 2012 11:38 am
Please can some of you steroid and PED “experts” maybe learn a little about the subject before accusing JMM of using.Anyone who thinks JMM couldn’t put that extra size on and increase his power by say 30% over 2 years plus while being clean,is really unaware of the difference between reading a muscle mag and training in your local gym 3x week, and having a world class nutritionist/conditioning coach with you 24/7. JMM just changed his fight strategy right after their last fight, with the aim of stopping Pac.JMM knew he didn’t need more speed, because of his great timing.he just needed more power.can a fighter develop significantly greater power in a 12 month period while being clean? Absolutely.Lets celebrate JMM’s win.He TIMED Pac perfectly.Pac was looking BETTER in this fight than his last few outings. It was a great fight.Let’s leave the PED accusations in the lap of Roach to suck on.Posted December 9, 2012 11:27 am
Marq. Obviously on PEDs. He never had one punch power, never. All,of a sudden with a Roid dealer in his corner he knocks manny down with one punch then brutal one punch Ko. Allmofna sudden atbage 39 he has one punch power?? please.
People say that’s what they said about manny, but so what. Irrelevant. And manny always had one punch power even before he became famous. And he lost that when he moved up. Only real Ko was hatton and he was small.Posted December 9, 2012 11:25 am
Unfortunately, I missed the fight due to time difference. Have to say that looking through all the news web sites this one was the only one with a full analysis of what happened. I have studied Marquez in all his fights and just keeps getting better. No other boxer has a completely natural uppercut and the ability to adapt as a fight progresses. A true craftsman.Posted December 9, 2012 10:55 am
The losers?….The poor folks who paid to see it!Posted December 9, 2012 10:54 am
The script was well written to say the least. Jmm went up in weight to fight Floyd and looked pudgy and lethargic, but now he fights Pac at only 1 pound more and looks diesel and supposedly has more power? BS.. The fact everyone thought it would be more of the same and nothing different opened new opportunities for the opportunists and sharks, enough to turn boxing, a recognized sport for years, into entertainment on par with the WWF.Posted December 9, 2012 10:52 am
Joseph is 100% right here about Manny getting a false sense of security being the reason for this outcome. But it was JMM brilliant strategy that led Pacman into that trap. I dont think we can say JMM is overall better. He was this time though. Seems if they fought 100 times they would probably each win 50, its just how good and evenly matched they both are.Posted December 9, 2012 10:41 am

Good morning all of you. Are you as shocked or surprised as I am at the end to this classic series? It was certainly unexpected on this end. Perhaps, it wasn’t such a stunner to everyone else. But, here’s some “early” news for everybody. You can expect this one to be overturned and become a “No Decision By Disqualification”. Marquez was (is) on something. Anyone that deals with weights and rigorous training knows when someone is “juicing”. If they did blood and/or urine tests, they will certainly fine whatever Marquez was using. It’s a shame too. I personally believe that Marquez is a bad match-up for Manny and he will always give him fits, with or without the juice and/or steroids. Mark my words on this one; this decision is coming back. Thanks.Posted December 9, 2012 10:00 am
Finally1 Congrats to JMM for not allowing the judges to score another fight against him. It’s been a long time coming. I wich MP nothing but the best and I look forward to seeing him fight again. I do think the fight with FM is out the window. No one wants to see it now and MP should have taken it last year.Posted December 9, 2012 9:48 am
Pac got hit by a monstrous shot but here is my problem, when pac get hit like that its called over hand and when Kahn got hit by similar shot its called no chin? Both of them were trained by Roach who really need to start teach defense. How weird is it that Khan and Manny had similar luck of run? First Khan gets robbed by Peterson and then Manny gets robbed by Bradley. Then Khan gets KOed by Gracia on his next fight and Manny gets KTFO on his next fight! Weird hey? also I think Khan done the right thing moving camp to hunter!Posted December 9, 2012 9:43 am
I agree with you. JMM has always worked hard just like Pac. Everbody gets their lights out with that punch. JMM is a true champPosted December 9, 2012 9:33 am
Amazing night of boxing credit to both of these ATG’s for coming to fight… Marquez face should be in the dictionary under the word determination!!! He chased PAC for 9 years, dealt with the bouts in between, politics of boxing etc and last night he refused to lose… Reality is that he was the HUNGRIER fighter and when the chips were down it showed.. I’m glad PAC is Ok, he’s a class act but he really got his lights turned out WHOA!!Posted December 9, 2012 9:31 am
I can’t believe the way people talk with such reckless abandon about PED’s and the character of these men. There is nothing to suggest JMM had an illegal physical advantage. Martinez did it to Williams and a perfectly timed punch that reverses the course of the contest is one of the aspects of this game that make it the best sport in the history of man. I was feeling bad for JMM as it looked like he was going to get really busted up before that beautiful shot. It was a hell of a fight and I hope they do it again. These are real fighters who respect and love the sport and both appear to be good, decent men with pure competitive spirits. To say otherwise is lazy and irresponsible.Posted December 9, 2012 9:30 am
I’m a Pac fan, but JMM is truly a great warrior. He deserved the victory. He’s worked very hard to get this win since the draw. Kudos to you guys & Mexico. Thanx for the respect to our fallen heroPosted December 9, 2012 9:21 am
Great fight !!! Justice served for once !!! Although I am a JMM fan …… I like Pac too ….and I think PAC is one of the greatest fighters of all time. The four fights which they had ….were amazing…pure boxing classics !! Respect for both fighters :)Posted December 9, 2012 9:16 am
Envy can build hatred. Mexicans hated Mexicans way back in 2004 when Pac eliminated their first hero Barrera. Pac was always a good guy, people usually don’t like good guys these days. It’s sad if people truly hates Pac because he’s a really good guy, and a great fighter. But of course this is the greatest victory Mexico has ever had since ages man. So I don’t think Mexicans really hate Pacquaio, they’re just happy they finally stopped him. Pac is still the man in my eyes though. Even in defeat he learns how to smile & stay humble.Posted December 9, 2012 9:16 am

for all the floyd fans accusing pac of using peds, heres the link to an article that may interest you if you cowards are man enough to read it
Someone just sent me an email explaining why so many are so jubilant that Pacquiao got knocked out, and not necessarily that marquez was victorious.
Let me ask everyone if this person’s explanation is true. Does most who dislike Manny Pacquiao attribute their hatred to the conduct of his fans and not him personally?
This is really interesting.Posted December 9, 2012 9:10 am
Awesome fight man! The best of the year! Congrats to JMM, he’s such a unique fighter. As for Pac, even in defeat he’s still a true champ. I just love the man. I’m ready for the 5th installment. Let’s bring it on! Ball don’t Lie! – Rasheed -Posted December 9, 2012 9:06 am
I thought the Hatton one was worse.Posted December 9, 2012 9:04 am
It was a close fight. If you watch that KO, Manny played the script well. He walked right into that right. Marquez had it all bundled up and packaged. He gave it too him. It was like Wham, Ouch and Drop. Anybody would have been dropped with a shot like that. It was more brutal than what Hatton ran into against Pacman.Posted December 9, 2012 8:50 am
Happyboy, reading comprehension is a must.
I am impartial, as I know several people attached to both camps.
I still fail to understand why so many have chosen to demonize Manny Pacquiao?
What the heck did he ever do to anyone?
I can understand why so many dislike a person like Floyd Jr, because the man personally is a serious piece of work…he knows what kind of person he is and doesn’t try to hide it.
But Manny genuinely cares about everyone around him and truly is a good guy.
Why the hatred…people I ask have yet to give me a rational answer.Posted December 9, 2012 8:50 am

This is not baseball where PEDs use get you to hit homeruns, you’re bashing other people’s heads in boxing and PEDs use is inexcusable and tantamount to crime. I’m not a Pac fan but this is outright wrong and drug testing must be regulated from hereon – perpetrators and enablers, like MarPEDs and his trainer roids dealer PEDredia, must be banned at all cost by a regulatory body.
MarPEDs did what he did to win – and he needed to cheat to get it done. This is not boxing if you ask me.Posted December 9, 2012 7:12 am
So it should be pretty clear by now that PBF would have beaten MP,because PBF so easily beat JM.
fair play to marquez, it is what it is, the best thing about it is that manny looked sharper than he has in a long time until knockout, i dont understand though why people have questioned pacquaio on PEDs yet dont question if marquez is on them, marquez didnt gain that kind of power by adding a little muscle, people are paranoid about pacquaios speed and power just because mayweather said what he believed, people dont question floyd after all between theages 16 and 31 floyd fought between 106 and 154 pound divisions whereas at the same age pacquaio didnt go higher than 147 pounds explain that ???, reports in inner boxing circles also suggest that the reason floyd settled defamation case so quickly after getting outta jail is because floyd failed blood testing with his first sample for last 3 fights and team pacquaio asked for the results of all these tests and floyd freaked out and paid up, read into that before saying something that hasnt been proven about mannyPosted December 9, 2012 7:09 am
Maybe the almost invisible Chris John should move up in weight and try beating JMM again.Posted December 9, 2012 7:08 am

MarPEDs sudden strength in just around 4 months of training is biologically impossible. I take nothing away from him and he has always had Manny’s number. But this one is really incredible. PEDs use to gain strength is just what he needed and it worked. But somehow in history it will always be tainted. Only those medically ignorant can claim that this is a legit win.Posted December 9, 2012 6:47 am
Poetic justice people. Karma, you rip what u sow etc. When Manny was knocking out full Welterweights and taking hard shots from the likes of Margarito where was the outrage? Most of the boxing world knew Manny was on something but everone pretended as if nothing was going on. Since he stopped doing the Ariza “diet” and traing schedule after Money called him out, his performances have been less that steller in my opinion. And yes JMM is on PEDS. You don’t believe that, no suprise here cos the more you look, the less you see.Posted December 9, 2012 6:46 am
I know exactly what’s the first thing PEDman will do after he steps out of the plane after he reaches home…KISS THE GROUND!!Posted December 9, 2012 6:42 am
Manny has lost before and always has never been a sore loser. Now Marquez has become an atg, he has never been ko’d just outboxed and I don’t see Paq ever being the one to do it now. As for him using peds, well don’t forget that the Mays apologized for
Yup. Roach is a dummy. Marquez capitalizes on Manny’s attacks. SO now Roach is telling him to attack even more. SO Marquez is going to make him pay more now. Marquez already has Manny timed like a ROLEX. Now he’s adding the missing component which is Power. Now the 3 Blind mice won’t have a chance to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes. Marquez will stop Manny or PUNISH him SO bad that they’ll reluctantly have to give him the decision.

IF Manny was such a GREAT ambassador in an effort to make Boxing safer he would have supported the stricter drug testing that Mayweather wanted instead of saying that “taking my blood makes me weak”….now ironically he just got knocked out and now his fans want stricter drug testing….But those SAME fans debated for months and YEARS than NO stricter drug testing was needed. I understand why people love seeing knock-outs, but from what I’ve read around the net more fans are celebrating the idea that Pacquiao got brutally got knocked out and not that Marquez won by knock-out.

Unfortunately, it’s not just among fans…I’ve already read several reports stating that Pacquiao should just retire.
People get knocked out in boxing, people. It’s why we watch the sport…fight enough good fighters and it will happen to everyone eventually.
