Mr. Wilder, I’ve had lunch with Tommy Hearns, I’ve visited his home in Martha’s Vineyard, I’ve ridden his Learjet, and I’ve been there with him when he ran for President.

Mr. Wilder, you sir are no Tommy Hearns.

Well I assume that Deontey is with GBP right! Hell he could be the next Ali according to ODLH!

Ban corrupt judges

Nobody knows how far DW can go as he hasn’t fought anyone of note. this is not Wilder’s fault of course, but my concernis that 24 easy KOs really doesn’t give him much of a boxing education. Hopefully he is getting better quality sparring.
David Price has fought better opposition at this stage and has had quality sparring. I genuine hope both Price and Wilder continue making progress and get to challenge Wlad before he retires. The division needs those kinds of fights.

What Tommy Hearns did when he faced tough characters Marvin Hagler and Iran Barkley was go toe-to-toe with them. That was wonderful for the fans but not so good for Tommy. He got clocked.. Hearns could have used his superior height, reach, jab, and foot speed but he fought them in a phone booth after they cleverly questioned his toughness and manhood …. It remains to be seen if Wilder has the same ring IQ as Hearns.

Jason Gavern, you’d have a helluva lot better chance than the punching bags Wilder has been in with to date. This would be a step up fight for Wilder but I’m not sure his camp wants to do that even four years after winning Olympic bronze.

First things first–you have about three weeks before you face Cunningspam who you should be able to stop via bullying him around–I’d pack on some extra weight, come on strong and show him whose boss. After that a fight against Wilder may still be available, since knocking out USS will really boost your stock up. Wilder does not strike me as very mobile, but he has fast hands and has good power. You might want to brush up on your history and watch some vid’s of the fellows who burst Mac Foster’s bubble starting with Quarry. God bless you in your endeavors—I always respect so called “journeymen” and I see a lot of success in your most recent fights (e.g. Ding a ling man, John Banks and O’Bannion.

I’d like to see that fight as well, but Welliver has an unbreakable chin, and there’s nothing anyone can do to him to keep him off. It would be fought in the trenches, but Chauncey shouldve have won that fight with Williams to to activity and punches landed/thrown.

Gavern is as good as any Euro level journeyman and he has a spoiler mentality…..ie…..he don’t come to lie down. These guys fight the very best out there, and even sneak the odd KO or MD/SD from these up n comers. I say, Gavern vs Wilder……make it happen.

Hey, is that you “Boxing Cop”? I was thinking you’d be the perfect step up for Wilder, especially since youve fought several top 25s and kept them honest. Would like to see you string a few wins together vs the like of Bydenko or Bahtov or Petkovic, Quezada, Estrada or a fight with Ding Wilson would be good for both of you. But as for Deontay….you or any of those guys Ive listed, all top 100 competition. I’d also like to see Sherwin Williams get his name mentioned as well. Deontay needs to fight someone who aint gonna fold like grandmas lawn furniture, and you and those guys mentioned are tough enough to trade with him for a while, and hell, may even capture lightning in a bottle.

FURY BEING BRITISH, WILL NEVER TAKE THAT CHANCE, HE WILL USE THE TYPICAL BRIT EXCUSE”HE IS NOT AT MY LEVEL”, BUT IF THAT FAT SHORT NON-PUNCHER CAN PUT FURY ON HIS BUT, WILDER WILL KEEP HIM THERE.

I don’t like it.. It’s not a good matchup for you right now and they’re matching you pretty damned tough as it is, which doesn’t make a lot of sense.. I like either of the last 2 guys you fought against Wilder.. I like you against Chauncy Welliver.. He likes to talk big and ESB gives him a lot of interviews and copy for some unknown reason… I think you can beat him and good luck with that.

I would love a crack at Wilder. I know I’m coming off a few losses but I see alot of flaws with this guy. Not saying that I would win or lose but I Just want to see how I would do. We would be a great matchup and it might answer alot of questions. What do y’all think ?

Russian…. You’re stupid.. Really really stupid.. You’re the dumbest person I’ve ever encountered anywhere. Boxrec has a lot of misinformation and makes a lot of mistakes. They had Eric Morel listed as a southpaw for years before they got that right after repeated emails. They gave Gene Tunney an extra loss when they felt like it, then they changed their minds and corrected themselves after numerous complaints. They even have disclaimers on every page saying they may be wrong. Their rating of boxers is the biggest joke in the world and I don’t depend on them for facts. You do.

“It’s so funny that there are so many detractors of Wilder. The only reason people are criticizing him is because he is so dominant.” – Wrong. People rightly criticize Wilder because he’s blasting out cream puffs and stunting his own development while his promoters talk him up like the next big thing. He’s facing the worst comp of any prospect in boxing today. Yeah he’s got natural talent, no GBP is not willing to test that talent against anyone with a pulse.

Tark- Your wrong as usual. But I see that you are a devoted student learner of mine, You referenced Joe Louis, after I taught you that a prime Louis would murder anyone that tried to go toe-to-toe with him.Today`s homework assignment Tark, is stop spitting out your same old boxrec facts that we have heard over and over again. You spit out like a tape recorder a lot of facts that you get from boxrec but like a tape recorder you don`t understand those facts .Your just a tape recorder that has memorized words on boxrec but you don`t really understand them.I know that your trying to be a know it all and impressive, but as your boxing teacher I am unimpressed, your just spitting out words like a parrot or a corrupt preacher who misquotes scripture to the flock but you don`t really understand them. Now, be a good student and do your homework assignment and develop boxing understanding. Then thank me for teaching you and illuminating your mind.

So far I like what I`ve seen in Wilder. But I`m not ready to annoit him as the next big thing yet. He stlii has quite a learning curve to get through !

Deontay has not been in a fight yet. Don’t think Deontay can walk through the HW’s without ever getting hit and become a champ. It is the nature of the beast.

Donte Wilder is just a new version of Michael Grant. Nothing more and nothing less

Posted August 17, 2012 4:20 pm

TARK

Yeah…. Reeeal sloooow. Bryant Jennings stopped Liakhovich in like his 14th fight. Chisora fought for the title in his 18th fight. Joe Louis murdered Max Baer in his 14th month as a pro. Of course he was fighting very very often like Patterson and Tyson when they came up. I believe in taking your time with promising prospects but they’re getting chicken fat on Deontay. Dwayne Bobick beat 38 bums in a row and then jumped up about 50 rankings to Ken Norton. That’s not the way to do it. You bring in some fairly tough opponents before you hit fight 20 … or your guy loses his edge.

I hope Deontay Wilder is the real thing, but he needs to fight in major markets against real opponents. I’d love to see him in with Mitchell or Jennings, but, until we see him with live opposition it is difficult to get too excited.

Hearns!!!! yeah right!! More like Jeff Lacy. As soons as he fight a top guy he’ll buckle like Lacy did with Calzaghe.

Its alright throwing him bums to beat each fight but sooner or later he’ll be found out and then another one bites the dust !!!

Roll on the next one !!

When you step in the ring with a guy and his jab is harder than everyone’s best sitting-down punch you know at that point that you lost. Now its just survive and not look too bad. Hope you don’t recieve the IRON FIST or STEEL HAMMER too early and often

A guy with his record 24 wins all by KO should be making serious noise but he hasn’t taken on anyone of note. In his next few fights he should be pushing to face guys in the top of the division. Dimitrenko followed by McCline and then Thompson or Adamek.

Posted August 17, 2012 4:26 am

It’s so funny that there are so many detractors of Wilder. The only reason people are criticizing him is because he is so dominant. Anytime anyone or any entity is so dominant, there will always be critics.
when Deontay continues his rise against quality opponents, you watch, the critics will still be overly critical, it’s what critics do!

sounds like your just backing him because of his skin color. They guy has not shown anything special yet and is just a great American hype right now.

I believe the comparison with Hearns may have something to do with a questionable chin.

Any top twenty guy would beat Wilder. He is used to fighting guys that don’t punch back.

Posted August 16, 2012 10:19 pm

I agree with Oscar. If you put him in the ring with welterweights and jr. middleweights he will look like Hearns. Other than that what I have seen he does not have the skill. His will has not been tested. He does not use his jab like he should and does not keep his hands up. He is tall, but does not seem to have the handspeed nor the athletic ability. I am not saying he can’t be good, but he is not there. I still think he should step up in competition. He will never get good if he continues to fight nobodies.

they have mowed wilder very slowely while keeping a good eye on the klitschko’s age and waiting for them to fade

Posted August 16, 2012 8:55 pm

I wish they wouldn’t do these comparisons early in these guys careers. Let the fighter become who they become, and after they beat a few named opponents THEN you can say he has some similarities with whomever. As for Wilder, at least most of his opponents have had decent records and Wilder has done to them what he should have. Now let him beat a few fringe contenders, then Oscar can let his mouth go.

Posted August 16, 2012 8:18 pm

The Kingslayer

Ahhh so now we know why you’ve been holding Wilder back, he’s got KO power but an awful chin.

Posted August 16, 2012 7:47 pm

Haye v Chisora

Don’t fight Haye, it will be like Lewis v Grant, even quicker.

Posted August 16, 2012 7:10 pm

Hosteen

It has been a totally travesty the way this guy has been brought along – Over the last couple of years he should have been fighting real heavyweights – guys who are his size and weight with solid chins even if they didn’t have a solid punch. At least he would have gotten in some real work instead of fighting total no hopefuls who had zero chance of testing him much less actually winning.

Posted August 16, 2012 6:48 pm

Oscar needs to stop talking and start matchmaking. Any discussion of Wilder’s upside is moot until he faces someone who’s not 1. drunk 2. homeless 3. housed in a can of tomatoes.

did he really say that? LOL his chin might be worst than tommys

Posted August 16, 2012 4:25 pm

DW is very tall and has a big right hand. But if he has Hearn’s chin??? This would not be good. No wonder they’re moving him up so slowly if he does have a suspect chin. Hearns was knocked out 3 times in his 20′s but Wilder could be 30 before he gets his first title shot. David Price will still be around whenever Deontay makes his move so it will be interesting.
