He had a great long, fast and accurate jab, that’s what got him as far as he went. Too bad a weak chin and drugs did his career in. Also I’m calling bs on Klit vs. Byrd. How do you say “no mas” on Ukrainian? Posted December 29, 2012 3:26 pmTARKTyrell Biggs didn’t have a great jab or great footwork.. He went nowhere.. Continuing when injured doesn’t make you millions but it can get you badly hurt and damage your future career … It’s important to come out of fights intact so you can make millions in future fights. If you suffer a serious enough injury you will not be able to do that. He used his great jab and footwork, and a lot of heart to do it. You could see the pain on his face whenever he took a shot, or even threw a jab with the other arm. Recently Nonito Donaire fought on with a severely broken hand and a ruptured radial artery. It was super human how the greatest continued on with a broken jaw against a powerful Ken Norton. There are countless examples of boxers showing a big heart, unfortunately Vitali didn’t follow suit against the feather-fisted Chris Byrd. They quit because they were receiving too much punishment, had an injury that didn’t allow them to continue, or in Duran’s case, got fed up because their opponent wouldn’t fight. Vitali quit because he suffered a shoulder injury in the 2nd round and it kept getting worse to the point he couldn’t move the shoulder. It was as good call because he fought until he was 41.. He also took several years off to heal nagging injuries to his legs. Posted December 26, 2012 5:22 pmPitBull PetrillI respect Vitali for making Diver wait, while he expresses little interest in taking the fight; let’s face it, Diver has had numerous opportunities to fight both Klit’s and has backed out man many times. Vitali should promise to fight Diver and then announce his retirement 2 weeks before the fight. That would be sweet revenge for the Valuev fight and for Diver pulling out of the Wlad fight last minute with a phantom injury. Posted December 26, 2012 5:11 pmPitBull PetrillDiver actions now can be described as parasitic and opportunistic because he expresses such an interest in fighting Vitali now at the convenient age of 41. There could be americans alive today if the draft dodger that was gonna have the back of one of those killed would’ve been doing their duty. Many blacks did serve. My grandpas good friend he went through korea wth was black and got killed in action. Guys like that were the hero’s. Not the racist draft dodgers. To say such a thing is offensive I’m afraid. The politics was not right and it hasn’t been. But clay was never in any dange. To say it was more courageous is offensive. He was a coward and the men who fought were not. The guy wasn’t a hero he was a racist shmuck. . Saying anything contrary disrespects those who fught and those who sacrificed. There is no just war. Man should have better morals and ethics but for the majority of our history this is how things were settled. And for most the history th clays of history get killed as a coward by their own country. I totally understand not wanting to go to the war but a hero he is not. There were a lot of draft dodgers and tey are not remembered as hero’s. I don’t think you know what a war ime hero is. God has nothing to do with the wars. It was just crrupt politics. Other nations like australia fought with us in vietnam. There wasn’t even an invasion of northen vietnam. The politics was fubar. Draft doging was the easy way out and to call it heroic one must be an air head. As I said history shows cowards are not treated well. Generally put to death. Then maybe we could call it heroic in the sense of martydom. Calling the common draft dodger heroic is just funny. You should go to the vfw’s and spread your message. See how your received Posted December 26, 2012 6:56 amTARKBears…. I disagree with your premise—nothing personal, I just disagree… The Vietnam War wasn’t worth one American life. We had NO right to kill so many people or get so many Americans killed—and to what end??? God certainly didn’t bless our efforts, did he??? Ali was right about the Vietnam War, and the world understood that. God DID bless our efforts in World War I and World War II—which were worthy wars on America’s part.. So were the Revolutionary War and other wars we fought—but certainly not the Vietnam or Iraq Wars. If more people refused to fight in unjust wars the world wouldn’t have so many of them. People make mistakes—so do nations. It takes more courage NOT to fight when your country is clearly in the wrong. Posted December 26, 2012 5:01 amBEARSWow. You think the poor people that got drafted “wanted” to go to war? A lot of good people did their duty and paid the ultimate sacrifice. Of all colors. The hero was the guys who fought and died and got mamed and who just fought. The hero never has been and never will be a coward who watched his countrymen fight a battle he was to much of a coward to fight. Nobody wanted to g and everyone was scared. But the racist draft doging cassius clays of the world are garbage. And honoring that is the antithesis of honoring the united states and its honorable men and woman. The politics may have been all wrong and I believe they were. But maybe a guy in the unit clay would’ve been in would’ve made it home if clay wasn’t a coward. Martin king was agood man. Cassius clay was garbage. Posted December 26, 2012 4:40 amTARKAli is a great hero—but it’s more about his courage in rejecting war and the draft… Ali was also a good boxer—but Ali was too hittable to have beaten Johnson, Louis, Holmes, Lewis, or the Klitschko Brothers at their best.. The David Haye who wiped out Dereck Chisora would have beaten Ali on greater skills, defense, and fire-power.. Vitali Klitschko is probably the best heavyweight ever because he’s never been behind on points—and he’s never been knocked down even though he fought through age 41 …. Lewis was KO’d twice by 2nd raters… Holmes was nearly KO’d by Snipes… Johnson was stopped by Williard… Ali was almost taken out by 185-pound Cooper and whipped by 197-pound tyro, Leon Spinks… Louis was taken out by 192-pound Schmeling… Wladimir was stopped by the inept Purrity… Vitali is the ONLY great Heavyweight Champion never knocked down—and the ONLY Heavyweight Champion who’s never been behind on points. So what is it Bears if Floyd GREAT or NOT??? You basically say that Vitali would do well to emulate him with your stance EXCEPT Floyd is a virtuoso who does about 50 things that Big Vitali cannot in the ring his skills are on another planet..You make Vitali 147 pound and put him in the ring with Floyd Mayweather he would NOT last 3 rounds THATS why Floyd is considered the P4P King and a jab, jab right hand HW would NEVER have the tools at the equivalent weight to do 6 minutes with FMJ even if Jesus, Allah, Ghandi, Moses, Buddha and Satan were in his corner… HOLLA!! Posted December 25, 2012 5:15 pmSREDMONDBears, Vitali does NOT compare to Floyd Mayweather who is the P4P KING of boxing he has faced comprably sized boxers his entire career and had to make weight in ALL divisions… He has defeated HOFers and done it in dominant fashion… He just came off beating Cotto who was 31 and younger than him in Cottos new division… Cotto is a 3 weight Champion who has only lost to Champions and ATG’s….Mayweather did not say, “oh my god he broke my face or damn my arm hurts lets try this another day” he got in there and won the fight… Vitali NEVER beat a HOF level fighter in his life and he has feasted on SMALLER (Grossly at times) pedestrian fighters topping out with Sam Peter as his best win… He lives off surviving 6 rounds with Lewis while his face leaked like FAT girl with hemphelia on her period…Where is the WIN over a REAL Champion?? There was no masterful boxer of the 60s and 70s who didn’t take much punishment because they were so skilled and dominant. Your going to have a hard time convincing people atheletics of 50 years ago can hang with atheletics today in any sport. For many REAL reasons. Discussing the great wlad klitschko. Olympic champ at 20 in 1996. Implying this kid wlad should’ve dominated boxing at 20 is ignorant. Implying he was a 90s fighter is ignorant. Wladimir klitschko was 14 years old in 1990 LOL!!!!! Poignant facts remain. Wlad won the title at 24 while lennox won at 27. Wladimir has knocked out 10 more REAL heavyweights than lennox even has just pro wins. Wladimir is slaying REAL records but doing it on a REAL GLOBAL SAMPLE OF FIGHTERS.. vitaly klitschko is the floyd mayweather of heavyweight boxing. The most statistically dominant heavy of all time with HUGE accolades to follow that in fact a laundry list. At the end of the day you dnt find anyone who believes cassius clay could beat a klitschko brother. Accept for maybe clays coach who said hayewould defeat wlad by mimicking cassius clay. Good on Vitali for beating him but you want to DING Ali for facing the fighters of his day while that were truly classified as HW’s and held the crown ie Frazier, Liston and Foreman but you want to sing Vitalis praises for beating a puffed up Cruiser who never got a sliver of the title and was GROSSLY undersized even according to the late Emmanuel Steward who said Adamek would “need a stool” to touch Vitalis chin…You don’t hear much chatter about that win, everyone knew going in Adamek had heart but lacked the tools or power at HW to trouble Vitali…. The only good fighter little 197-pound Spinks ever beat was Ali—when Leon had only 6 wins. Spinks was in over his head too soon because of his victory over Ali. He got slaughtered by guys like Coatzee and Holmes.. Foreman ate jabs and any good boxer would likely beat him, unless he got in a lucky shot.. Little feather punching Jimmy Young, with only 20 wins and 5 defeats, beat Foreman.. Frazier was a short 205 pound left hooker. He was wide open for any big, tall, powerful puncher. Joe fought one and got crushed twice. Glass chinned Norton was KO’d by 188-pound Jose Luis Garcia who had only 12 wins … The truth is that there is more talent today. I believe both Lewis and Guerrero KNEW Moret WASN’T going to call fouls. That gave them a huge advantage to foul at will. Lou Moret—who refereed both fights—saw the fouling as well.. Otherwise he wouldn’t have issued so many warnings.. A referee is supposed to call fouls for flagrant violations of the rules and Moret DIDN’T… He is also supposed to note when blood comes spurting forth whether the blood gush was caused by a legal punch, a headbutt, or a foul blow… Sometimes referees get this wrong accidentally — sometimes on purpose. TKO, you can search ther internet and you won’t find a writeup about Vitali winning the fight… NOW we gotta attack Lou Moret because Vitali took too many right hands?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa! Posted December 24, 2012 12:28 amSREDMONDTark, where was all this when the Kbros were acting like there was NOTHING but David Haye as evidenced by Wlad lubing himself and letting Haye slide in for 50% of the pie?? What about when Vitali was chasing him AFTER he had lost to Wlad… Haye puts the monster mash on a guy that Vitali could not even buzz and suddenly David Haye is being treated like he is radioactive??? Vitali should just retire and end his career which is not really gonna get much beyond LOSING to Lennox Lewis…He has receded from prominence and his “never down, never behind” battle cry is not gonna suffice when the historical record shows him facing a SLEW of weak foes and losing to the BEST guy he ever fought….. Bye Bye Vitali! Posted December 24, 2012 12:25 amTARKKubrat Pulev could become the next Heavyweight Champion… Pulev may beat Wladimir even if he has to fight him twice. Their fight will be close and tough and call for a rematch. I don’t know if Pulev can beat Haye, but Haye is fighting selectively. Haye won’t fight Price, Pulev, Fury, or the toughest heavyweight contenders in the world.. DH has massive talent that will go to waste because it’s Vitali or the highway. Haye is putting himself on a pedestal where nobody but Vitali is good enough for him to fight. That would be like Larry Holmes saying, “I want Muhammad Ali or nobody.” Holmes did what he had to do to become heavyweight champion when Ali refused to fight him … Haye needs to grow up and realize there’s more to the heavyweight division than than the K Bros. The fight was fixed by Lou Moret, who let Lewis get away with flagrant fouling the whole HBO crew saw—but Lou Moret never called.. It’s not the 1st time Lewis fouled his ass off and had the benefit of a corrupt referee.. This fight rightfully should have gone to the scorecards because the damage that prompted the stoppage was caused by flagrant holding and hitting with the palm of the glove, and illegal use of the head.. Lewis no more beat Vitali Klitschko than Tim Bradley beat Manny Pacquiao, Robert Helenius beat Dereck Chisora, or Adamek beat Cunningham yesterday. Posted December 23, 2012 11:27 pmSREDMONDGuys cannot keep harping on Haye being soft against Wlad fact is that Vitali was SOFT against Chris Byrd and was called Quitschko till he fought Lewis and showed some stones during his loss…Haye was VERY defensive against the much bigger Wlad Klits whereas Vitali quit against the relatively tiny and power deficient Chris Byrd… Haye vs Vitali is the biggest fight that could be made at the weight.. If Vitali wants to retire, then fine move on but if he is going to fight again David Haye is the logical choice.. Posted December 23, 2012 11:21 pmNamelessthat being the majority accurate view. I felt conned by the whole event. The point I would make is that BOTH Haye and Wlad fought very defensive fights. Haye was directly in front of Wlad for much of the fight, but Wlad was totally unwilling to let the the right go and take any risk of get counter punched. Neither fighter was covered in glory. Haye looked untouched after 12 rounds with a guy most still say was dominant – a guy that was going to jab Haye’s head off then knock him cold by middle roundsaccording to most respected pre-fight analysis. Both guys were waiting for a mistake and winning at minimal risk. While many observers think that Vitali would beat Haye easily, truth is that if Vitali believed that, he would have fought him by now. I think Vitali knows exactly what he is doing. YES, Haye was not at his best against Wladimir because of the injury.. He couldn’t train right for the last 3 weeks. He would have lost the fight anyway, but he got greedy for the 15 million and concealed the injury. Not cool. Vitali wasn’t at his best vs Lewis, Byrd, and Chisora because of various injuries. These things happen. Lewis had a ready excuse for getting flattened twice—but LL was lucky and got rematches. Was Haye at his best against Chisora? Yes. He matured as a heavyweight, brought his weight down, tuned his skills up, and was operating on all cylinders. I don’t agree that Barrett floored Haye or that Ruiz performed like anything but crap against Haye, but David was still getting his heavyweight legs at that point. Right now he’s a formidable heavyweight for anybody. He’s not doing his talent justice by not taking on more heavyweights and not being open to more matchups … This is the way he wants to play it—it’s his career. With a neutral referee—instead of Lou Moret—Vitali wins that fight on ALL cards—for the simple reason he was WINNING the fight on ALL cards and the cuts that stopped the fight weren’t caused by legal blows. By the way—Lou Moret was the same referee who never called a foul in the Guerrero-Berto fight. Very strange, because the fighters committed over a hundred fouls and Guerrero threw at least 20 punches AFTER the final bell. The only problem with Haye here is that he may be making the mistake of talking more than fighting, as he has only had one fight since his loss against Wlad. Chisora might also have been lucky against Vitali and even Helenius as they may not have been in teh best of condition to box at the time he fought those two men. Vitali easily KO’d 3 heavyweights who knocked Wladimir down a total of 8 times and knocked Wladimir out twice—while losing to Byrd because of injury, when he was miles ahead of the slick boxer—who Wladimir easily boxed to death twice. Vitali has massively better results facing the same opponents and had the better of Wladimir when they sparred years ago. They stopped sparring because it wasn’t an even matchup. His last 5 opponets were 36, 38, 40, 35, 28, Ruiz was mandatory so he had no choice, and he made a load of money for the harrison fight, can’t say I would have made a different choice. Posted December 22, 2012 4:41 amLayla AliVitali has more skills than the author affords him I’m afraid. Haye opens up, giving Vitali opportunities to land blows, counter or not. Haye would be an easier opponent than Chisora was. Vitali when fighting quality opponents always rises to the challenge and that’s when he does his best ! Posted December 22, 2012 4:35 amTARKJennings is the real deal… He’s willing to fight often and make progressive moves up. I don’t think Wilder is the right fight for him immediately. That big, fast, explosive right hander could possibly pose a problem for Jennings at this point. Deontay really rains down those right handers in wicked fashion. Wladimir gave DW some tips on getting a clearer target for his right and getting more speed, deception, and extention on his jab, which DW still needs to work on … Jennings should try for Arreola, Adamek, Boytsov, Povetkin, Hanks, Mitchell, Chisora, Helenius, Wach, or Rodriguez next. Bryant needs a few of these more hittable heavies just to tighten up his defense a few notches—before he’ll be ready for the Pulev’s Haye’s, Wilder’s, Price’s, and Fury’s of the world—maybe in 2014 or 15—when possibly Wladimir will leave the heavyweight scene to this new crop of outstanding heavyweights. If you give me another crack at the title I will put in more effort this time Posted December 22, 2012 12:12 amfrankDG are you crazy some how suggesting that haye fought a good fight.? against wlad .IN that fight haye ran away .threw himself on the ground so many times that the ref got so tired of it he actually started to count one of hayes throw downs as aknock down . Haye refused to actually fight. Most any contender can go the distance with a champ if there sole purpose in the fight was to survive. Ever time wlad got close to him haye would run away or throw himself on the ground . Haye never put it on the line never tried to win that fight . And after the fight instead of taking the money and loss. He further embarresed himself and decieve his foolish fans by jumping up on a table taking off his shoe and blaming his toe for the losss. I think haye can be a good fighter if he had the will of a warrior but he does not. he gave chisora his 4th or 5th loss in a row. vitaly dominated this man with one arm. to me that is the most impressive like he dominated lewis with one eye for 66% of the fight. vitaly is the goat, haye is a nobody Posted December 21, 2012 7:48 pmpowered by klitschKObrittard- “a real cliffhanger” …….lol funny stuff man keep those gems rolling! Posted December 21, 2012 7:26 pmHaye is a world class jerk“To start off the night’s festivities, HBO showed a replay of forty-one year old Vitali Klitschko’s 4th round TKO destruction of Manuel Charr at the Olimpiyskia in Moscow, Russia. After the fight, announcer Jim Lampley asked Larry about the possibility of David Haye remaining a thorn in the side of the Klitschko brothers. Larry reminded Jim about Haye’s “Loser’s Limp” display done after his fight with Wladimir when he removed his shoe to show everyone his injured little toe. The implication was that was the reason for his loss. In Larry’s deliberate manner, he said Haye should have removed his shorts, which would have revealed the the real reason for his loss. It was obvious Larry meant we wouldn’t be seeing any Fruit of the Looms. ” — Paul Strauss Posted December 21, 2012 6:58 pmBernie CampbellAnd I want Morgan Freeman’s darn publicity agent too! Posted December 21, 2012 5:54 pmdoc@ Fight Aficionado – Haye is a world class jerk, but the reality is that at this point in Vitali’s career, Haye poses the biggest threat than anyone out there today. True Haye stunk up the joint against Wlad, but people always fail to realise that Wlad and Vitali are very different fighters. Vitali likes to fight and rarely clinches, whereas Wlad grabs at the least sign of danger. I know that Klit fans don’t like to hear it, but both Haye and Wlad were at fault for the lack of action (a la Wlad vs Ibragimov). Am I saying that Haye will definitely beat Vtali?…. of course not. But I think that Haye more than earned the right to fight Vitali based on his destruction of Chisora, who gave Vitali his toughest fight in a long time. Peace. Posted December 21, 2012 5:36 pmAnonymousThe fight is too risky for Vitali at 41 who’s started clearly showing his age. In his prime Haye has no chance! He shouldn’t let a no mark like Haye soil his good reputation now. Time for old man Vit to walk off into Politics ands leave boxing to his younger bro. Posted December 21, 2012 5:29 pmDGAnd that “doesn’t deserve the fight” only confirms that Vitaly is in danger if fights with Haye. But i would prefer both brother fight Tyson Fury. I think he is better then both of them. Posted December 21, 2012 5:24 pmDGI do not care about the score, two boxers were standing 10 feet away and punching the air. Wlad was throwing more punches and won more rounds. That was an even fight with bigger aggression from Wlad. In the middle rounds Wlad got his nose broken, he was about start crying. In the end Wlad was able to connect more punches. In 12th both were good. It was an even fight. I would like Haye to beat Vitaliy so he would fight Wlad again. I guess they know that it’s risky for Vitaliy. Posted December 21, 2012 4:45 pmDGWlad did not have an easy fight with Haye. They both were scared of each other. Only in 12th round was a real fight where both had chances. Beside of 12th round, fight was pretty even considering that one was waiting for contr-attack punch, and another one was afraid to approach. Most of rounds that Wlad won were with the little jab margin. For Vitaly Haye might be an ideal opponent. Vitaliy doesn’t like pressure, he likes to through bombs from distance. And Haye is the opponent who is sitting and waiting. So, if Vitaliy still has skills, he should win. But last fight showed that he was very poor in defense. Every combination from low skilled opponent reached him. He was lucky that fight ended before Charr activated as he usually does after middle rounds.
