So retire. There are plenty of other fighters.

Whats the point of a 5th fight??? Desire from the boxing public..really there was no desire for a 3rd or 4th. The boxing public wanted Mayweather v Pacman. In essence it takes 3 fights (Pacman/Marquez 3,4,5) to satisfy the need to see mayweather pacman 1. Good fights they were and will be but fillers for what should have happened.

Posted December 29, 2012 2:49 pm

pacman treats fellow fighters as brothers in profession…and has been generous towards marquez by allowing him to piggyback…………..AND MARQUEZ EARNED MILLIONS. and what did marquez do in return? HE HIRED A PEDs SCIENTIST/DEALER TO HELP HIM SATISFY HIS BASER INSTINCT—ANGER!!! he doesn’t care if he kills or maim pacman as long as he executes perfectly his “REVENGE”. revenge for what?…only his distorted mind knows, for what.

Posted December 28, 2012 4:50 am

zdrx

marquez owes pacman a lot…and pacman doesn’t need a thank you note from him. all pacman needed is a little respect…which marquez refused to give. marquez even chased pacman into the philippines…AND INSULTED PACMAN IN FRONT OF HIS PEOPLE!!! still, we accorded marquez the respect he didn’t deserve…but it was lost to him because of his anger at our fighter. is this how “civilized” mexicans are?

Posted December 28, 2012 4:29 am

zdrx

it was pacman who helped marquez become a legend. marquez earned his tens of millions because of pacman brand. if pacman did not allow marquez to piggyback on his name, marquez will still be fighting down there……………….AT $30,000 per fight!!!

By asking them to retire they are prioritizing their husbands health over adding to their accumilated wealth. Sounds like the are saying “we have enough, please stop while you have your health”.

It’s not about what wives want… It’s all about what big money fighters want to do with their boxing careers… Wives can pound sand if they don’t like your decision… Continuing a career if you’re physically good to go is not grounds for divorce.

Right now JMM is in a great spot to get parity with Pacquiao… or to get the lion’s share against Bradley, Matthysse, Rios, or Garcia… or to get a bigger chunk than last time against Floyd.

Te Tumbo, what other successful PPV fight has Marquez been in that did NOT involve Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao????? Where are the numbers to support his drawing power??? Pac did 1 million and change against a WASHED up Shane Mosley.. I guarantee that the ONLY way Marquez will be on PPV is if he fights Mayweather or Pac again, he and Bradley together cannot make money… Thats why JMM takes 6 mill guaranteed while Manny socks away another 25 mill or more… Is Marquez DUMB if he is indeed the “stealth draw” get your facts together…. Manny proved he can do numbers with other fighters, Marquez never even came close despite being a GREAT fighter

Posted December 25, 2012 11:45 pm

SREDMOND

Te Tumbo, you discuss Marquez having to face Pac Man under unfavorable conditions moving up in weight, by making this assertion you indirectly ADMIT that Pacquiao was putting himself at a disadvantage by facing fighters native to higher weight classes in boxing which has ALWAYS been the accepted standard…. You cannot say “poor Marquez” then dismiss Pac’s climb up the scales?? Marquez focused on one nemeis in the WW division or above, what awesome fighter did he beat at 140?? Joel who was on the slide?? Meanwhile Pac Man took easy fights with Cotto, Margo, Clottey, ODH and Hatton GTFOH? Yeah he made them look easy but those were all NAME fighters who brought somethng to the ring and what they did not bring on fight night was their own damn fault…The shame of getting beaten down by a former flyweight is laughable.. All credit to Marquez for finding the answer but it took him 4 fights and 8 years…

Marquez fanbase could barely fill a highschool GYM he is an amazing fighter but Canelo and Chavez Jr bring out more Mexicans than JMM who has ONLY been on PPV against the 2 biggest draws in boxing and that is why he gets paid relative peanuts despite his talent….I see you backed away from your ERRONEOUS statement regarding Marquez doing Olympic testing with Floyd Mayweather, fact is that NEVER happened and in your quest to vindicate the years of watching Pac Man bash your favorite fighters you are going overboard… Marquez win was amazing but he sure as hell took long enough to get it, no one has given him more respect than me, but even JMM told Manny “You’re a Great fighter” your boxing IQ is not what I call into question, it is your BLIND and virulent hatred of Pacquiao… FACE facts he REALLY did win all those titles and he really did TKO Morales and make him quit the 2nd time, he really did stop Barrera…. FACTS

Posted December 25, 2012 11:34 pm

Te Tumbo, YOU are the KING of petty bias as it pertains to Pacquiao you cannot even refer to the fighter by his actual name substituting “Punkaio” and various other derogatory monikers… My balance as it pertains to Pac Man and Marquez cannot be questioned because I see BOTH fighters as Great and recognize the achievements of both men… Calling Pac Man a “promotional hype job” calls into question just how good Marquez victory was and the quality of fighter he beat…It also tells us that YOU consider Barrera, Morales, ODH, Cotto, Margo and the rest to be trash because they let a LOW caliber fighter dominate them…Juan Diaz was a “good fighter” and Marquez KOed him first time out instead of booking 2 close losses and getting knocked down 5 times… What fighter in the history of boxing won 4 lineal Championships and defeated Champs in a solid 7 weight classes and was considered good?? YOUR bias blinds you….

No Te Tumbo you have called Pacquiao a “one dimensional swarmer” and that NOT an accurate depiction and it pisses on the multiple HOF and high caliber fighters that Pacquiao either defeated, or knocked clean out Barrera, Morales, Marquez, Hatton, Cotto, ODH and.. Calling Pacquiao “a promotional hype job” means that Marquez who you openly assign GREATNESS (I agree Marquez is GREAT) was knocked down 5 times and lost 2 fights according to judges to a fighter of such lowly standing???… NO ONE in the history of boxing conquered 7 weight classes and captured 4 lineal Championships while being accurately depicted as a “promotional hype job” while you obviously favor Marquez you ADMIT in your statements that Pacquiao is indeed GREAT because you say “Marquez has always been Greater” thus conferring a level of Greatness upon Pacquiao albeit grudgingly..

Posted December 25, 2012 10:28 pm

SREDMOND

Te Tumbo, if Pacquiao is ONLY “a promotional hype job” then why was Marquez NOT able to simply destroy him 3 fights ago as he did others such as Diaz, Casamayor and Katsidis? How did he endure a broken nose and 3 first round KD’s to a THEN one handed fighter?? Why the 2 losses controversial or not all were CLOSE bouts? JMM knows how to win yet it took him almost half his boxing career to get a “W” over Pacquiao no matter how resounding the victory… Are you gonna whine about money and Manny moving up in weight??? Why was such a lowly fighter able to end the careers of ODH, Barrera, Hatton and Morales?? all fighters that were NEVER the same again post Pac Man… Saying Pacquiao is just a GOOD or VERY GOOD fighter is ridiculous, you show me another fighter of average or slightly above average ability who won 4 lineal Championships and titles in a solid 7 divisions….Hating Manny has clouded your reason..

Marquez will now be the guy that commands the big end of any deal outside of Mayweather. If i was him i’d be making sure i get paid big and would be taking 4-5 easy nights against the likes of Mallinagi, Garcia( he’d murder Danny Garcia) maybe even Broner. Then Pacquiao n Floyd. Its time for this guy to get what he’s due.. PAID

Posted December 25, 2012 8:11 pm

IF Pacquiao* dares face Marquez a 5th time in Mexico, then he’ll have to accept lopsided conditions in Juan’s favor and the short money. thanks to Team Punkuiao’s* efforts to discourage Marquez from completing his mission, Marquez has a lot of catching-up to do in that department. Marquez proved his greatness over Nine (9) F’n Years by accepting unfavorable conditions just for the opportunity to KTFO of Pacquiao*. it’s now Manny’s* turn to do the same. he’s already got his money. if he’s as “great” as Marquez, he’ll do the 5th one for pride . . . IF he’s as great as Marquez.

Posted December 25, 2012 7:04 pm

REDMOND, you keep trying to assign me arguments that line-up with your petty biases and insecurities, e.g., i’ve already conceded that Pacquiao* is/was a very good fighter but simply not “great”. there’s no shame in Marquez KingTFO of a very good fighter but the greatest satisfaction is exposing this promotional hype-job for JUST the very good (NOT “great” or “greater”) fighter that you fanboys have always insisted he was. there’s no grey area in that last statement for your juvenile ego to desperately cling too. notwithstanding bogus scorecards, Marquez is and ALways has been greater. in fact, bogus scorecards are the primary reason anybody would even dare compare Pacquiao* to Marquez NOT Pacquiao* agreeing to face Marquez on a level playing-field or accepting harmless OSTing to face his primary P4P rival and collecting a $25-$50 million payday. Btw, it’s not Pacquiao’s* fanbase delivering solid PPV numbers and selling-out fight venues for their fights. despite “expert”, fanboy, and Team Pacquiao* assertions that the third fight would be a blowout in Manny’s* favor and that the fourth bout was redundant and lacked popular appeal, Marquez’s fanbase showed-up for both in overwhelming numbers. conversely, it appears that Pacquiao’s* fanbase was boiled-down to Mittens and his fellow 1%rs “slumming-it” ringside. their horrified expressions upon watching Pacquiao* planted face-first and butts-up into the canvas was a bonus to the Marquez fanbase, which is the fanbase that is keeping boxing alive . . . Viva Marquez!

SREDMOND: And yes, from a commercial perspective: I do believe that Pacquiao is the reason why Marquez made more money in their last 2 fights than in any other fights in his career and NOT the other way around. Te Tumbo, would say “He made Marquez fight him in 4 weight classes”…I say SO WHAT!! Manny moved up and took on bigger fighters and if JMM wanted to follow him then so be it his efforts were finally vindicated at age 39 with a career defining win… Pacquiao is the one who made Pacquiao/Marquez a HUGE spectacle, he created the global brand and popularity that made these fights a huge platform… Pac Man was doing 1 million buys WITH or WITHOUT Marquez absent a few slight shortfalls (Clottey, Bradley)…Floyd Mayweather does the SAME thing, he is the guy that millions tune in and pay the $60 to see so he is going to exercise economic control over the event….Why would Pac Man make concessions to the lessor draw?? NOW Marquez has the leverage to make the 10 million plus payday because he booked a HARDCORE win not a controversial loss…Lets see what happens next in this SAGA

Posted December 25, 2012 2:54 pm

SREDMOND

Floyd is the BEST fighter today and I have maintained that forever but boxing is cruel, if he loses then his detractors will say “He was NEVER that good” Pacquiao is experiencing the same imbalanced treatment from his detractors… Marquez is awesome but he went thru hell to book this win over Manny and crying about judges is not going to cut it during close fights… JMM got his win and he deserves as much credit as can be afforded a fighter… But Manny Pacquiao is a legend of the sport, a little man who made BIGGER boxers shudder, shut down, cower and lose..Attacking a HUGE former WW like Margo as if they were the same size, taking Cotto’s best and beating him into submission, and what he did to legends like Morales and Barrera cannot be overstated… 4 lineal Championships and titles in 7 divisions… Where he goes from here NO ONE knows but even the GREAT FMJ did not book titles in that many weight classes…

Posted December 25, 2012 2:48 pm

SREDMOND

NO ONE is going to leave this fight Mayweather/Pacquiao ONLY in the lap of Manny Pacquiao who was fighting EVERYONE around, Mayweather came up with an unprecedented condition and then all hell broke loose, lawsuits drama ect… The truth is BOTH Manny and Floyd made a fortune fighting guys other than eachother, could they have made a HUGE purse against eachother?? Of course but 30 and 45 million to face Ortiz, Mosley and Cotto did not hurt, Manny was banking it fighting JMM, Margo, Clottey and Mosley… Being intractable does not make the argument stronger, there are about 20 reasons this fight never came off and trying to put the bulk of it in Pac Mans lap is a JOKE and childish bias.. To his credit Marquez fought Pac Man under the SAME conditions he fought the other 50 plus boxers he faced in his career and lived and died with the results…This was a war of egos and fight fans were the losers… Time to move on.

Posted December 25, 2012 2:41 pm

Te Tumbo, Marquez NEVER did Olympic testing to face Floyd Mayweather where the hell was that on 24/7 and where are the reports of that?? Mayweather did not start Olympic testing till he fought Shane Mosley and we saw that play out on TV in front of our eyes… I think Juan is as clean as a whistle but the testing started AFTER Marquez consider a degree of accuracy if you want to pursue this antiquated discussion about OSTing….I hear you pumping of FMJ who has the MOST lopsided purses you can think of but you seem to want Pacquiao to give Marquez a better deal? FACT is that Marquez cannot draw BIG PPV numbers absent a Pacquiao or Mayweather in the ring… He has also gotten some terrible advice, to go fight Chris John in Indonesia for 30k and getting robbed in the process

Posted December 25, 2012 2:26 pm

Btw, Marquez DID test to face Floyd. as did Shane, Ortiz, and Cotto. OSTing has become a standard conditon of every Mayweather contract. also, 21, 14, 7, or even same-day cutoffs for testing is Not RANDOM. on this flimsy condition, Team Punkuiao* sabotaged the P4P $howdown v. their primary P4P rival. instead they demanded that Marquez agree to one-sided conditions and lopsided purse-sizes before they would agree to face him a 3rd and 4th time. ultimately, Marquez was able to successfully exploit Team Pacquiao’s* greed to score the legacy-defining KO of his career. the rivalry is OVER. Viva Marquez!

Posted December 25, 2012 2:08 pm

love reading the squirming posts of deflated Pactards (lol). anyway, I Repeat, i’ve NEVER accused Punkuiao* of juicing but of refusing to be tested for $50 million and an opportunity to face his primary P4P rival, i.e., reFusing to “Step Up” and PUNKING out of facing Floyd “The Natural” Mayweather. i personally suspected Team Punkuiao* of desperately trying to avoid certain and lopsided defeat at the fists of #1 P4P Floyd. however, if Pactards and Team Punkuiao* insist it isn’t fear of Mayweather that prevented them from agreeing to test, then it must’ve been having something to hide(?). i suspect it’s Pacquiao’s* vagina but who knows for sure? i can only base my opinion on the FACT, i.e., there is NO credilble excuse for avoiding harmless, random, and mutually-applied drug-testing –with NO cutoff-off dates– to face his primary P4P rival. especially for a $25-$50 million payday and enduring P4P ring-glory. consequently, the “*” is a reminder of Pacquiao’s* suspected skulking or juicing. take your pick. i really don’t care. ultimately, one unofficial; one official; and one DEVASTATING, legacy-defining, career-ending KO loss later, Pacquiao* finally earned his $25-$50 million dollar payday while also exposing the Truth: Pacquiao* was a good fighter but only “great” when the matchmaking was great . . . “Merry Christmas” suckers . . .

Believe me there won’t be any serious testing in the next fight neither. Texas is far worse than nevada. That’s like the wild wild west state. Anything goes. You thought PEDcquiao and Marquez looked big in their last fight? You haven’t seen nothing yet. Manny’s is going to use Lapu Lapu strength PEDs this time. Texas is the only state that will be able to accomodate his Barry Bonds skull.

All this PED talk about fighters who never tested dirty is just childishness at its worst… Pac Man and Marquez have 60 pro fights each and neither man has come up dirty… 99% of the sport is not subject to any unusual testing and thats just the way it is…If you need 100% certainty or something close then fighters would need year round testing which is not going to happen…Either live and die with the results or stop watching boxing, when Pac Man was streaking all sorts of rumours were going around, now that Marquez shut him down the rumors start on him…. This is simply what weak minds consider VOGUE, the excuse du jour…Absent proof who cares what dimwits think??? Fact is this Series is 2-1-1 in Pac Mans favor with Marquez owning the defining fight by a countrymile… Odds are they will do it again, Manny is a warrior and unlike alot of boxers he immediately stated he was gonna fight again good or bad… This is throwback boxing

Posted December 25, 2012 1:19 am

The Floyd/Manny testing story is OLD news, it has been so long and so much has happened it hardly matters the “he said, she said” is now a memory supplanted by the KO loss Marquez handed Manny….Both men overplayed their hand and now a piece of history is up in smoke NEVER to regain its former luster…These two will likely have a relative meaningless money fight in 2014 assuming Pac Man can dust himself and beat a rapidly aging Marquez who will not be able to turn down the payday…. Manny Pacquiao has been terrific for boxing, he brought excitement and energy he fought 2x per year EVERY year and the beatings he layed on ODH, Barrera, Cotto, Morales, Diaz and others were epic, he participated in a NOW legendary 4 fight series with Marquez and a 3 fight series with Morales, he is a legend who the odds caught up to…I think FMJ is the best out there but if he keeps coming to the ring time will catch him to.. Thats boxing!

poor souls almost spending their whole lives bashing or accusing fighters (or diligently putting asterisk on their names lol) they just hate based on what they see. well boxing is like music, there’s always this one artist or band you’ll hate for the rest of your life. i wish we could just enjoy what these warriors (not keyboard warriors) offer and hope them best of health. we could only imagine how much they would go through every fight, mind, body, and soul (and pockets). happy holidays to all of esb fans.

“second, i’ve NEVER accused Punkuiao* ” Then what’s with the hateful nickname you’ve just called him and the asterisk you’ve attached to his name? You resent him because he “refused to test for $50 million?” Well why would you be bothered with whether he tested or not if you didn’t suspect he was using PEDs? Yeah, you’ve accused him plenty, te tumbo, and your hateful little nicknames and the asterisk you’ve been planting next to his name for the past few months says all we need to know. Face it, both Floyd and Manny have punked out about fighting each other. Floyd had the power to make that fight happen. Tests or no tests. So did Manny Paquiao. They both screwed themselves out of that mega-purse. Give it a rest.

Regardless of what people think of either figher, boxing would be better off with more fighters like Pac and Marquez. They basically have each others number and could fight 100 times and it would always be a tough fight that could go either way. All the talk before the fight of Marquez being on PEDS etc and Pacquiao hasnt once made excuses, he went in, faught and took his defeat. And now wants to do it again.

Posted December 24, 2012 7:36 pm

Pacquiao never actually refused to be tested, he refused to be tested closer than 19 days before the fight, Mayweather wanted it to be 14 days before the fight. Both Mayweather and Pac were randomly tested by the NSAC and both passed and the fight still didnt happen. The drug testing was just a smoke screen for Floyd not wanting to work with Arum and vice versa IMO. Remember Floyd never asked Marquez to take any tests when they faught, thus people thaught Floyd was just picking at Pacquiao.

If you watched boxing long enough you’d realize that anyone with a clear shot like the one JMM took on Pac is going to get knocked out. Pac walked right into that punch fully body momentum, face, Marquez full swing and all.
Don’t forget also, JMM said he’d take the test, Manny refused.

Marquez can never improve on his demolition of Pacquiao*. a 5th match will be all about the money. IMO, he should retire or target Bradley for one more payday and then retire with the full satisfaction that the pride has been restored; the bogus scorecards redeemed; and the rivalry is OVER. otherwise, Marquez chooses gloves, ring-size, location, and Pacquiao* collects a flat-fee of $1 million for a 5th bout v. Marquez. Btw, i wouldn’t be shocked if Marquez chose the Phillipines as the location of a 5th matchup. it’s the kind of ring-warrior Marquez has ALways been and Punkuiao* can never be . . . Viva Marquez and Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Fight . . . Peace.

PEDcquiao is Clean

Pacquiao doesn’t care about his wife. He’s cheated on her so many times. What a joke.

both fighters should follow the advice of there wives both are washed up and over the hill as fighters and would lose to any numbers of good welterweights

The Mad Scientist

It doesn’t matter if the haters think Marquez is dirty because at the end of the day Dinamita is just as clean or dirty as Pacquiao himself..thanks Juan for reminding KTFOiao and his fans their was a mexican fighter in Pacman’s era who was greater than him..Lol!, you pactards enjoy riding off into the sunset with your idol, it was nice knowing you all..

Exiled Yank

It will be hard for these guys to leave the sport. I also think this may be a negotiating tactic. JMM got less than a seventh of what MP earned in this fight. By playing the retirement card, he might be able to drive up his cut of the purse. I would like to see a fifth. Why not? It will be better than most any other fight out there.

shaun spensley, i think the wives have a right to ask them both to retire at this point in their careers, they are both wealthy, both HOF’ers and do not have much left to prove. being a fighters wife must be a brutal job, raising the children, spending weeks maybe months alone during training camps and the constant fear that your husband might be seriously hurt or killed. you only had to see Jinkee ringside watching the doctors trying to slap Manny awake to see how much these families go through, they live every punch, it must be draining after 20 odd years.

BlowMeUpTomDotCom

Had they followed Leykis 101, it would not matter what their wives thought because they wouldnt be married and could make their own decisions. Take me out ‘Kobe Style…’
