What was Broner meant to do when Burns was ducking him? Get another fighter before May. As much as I am not excited about this bout can’t blame Broner. He is staying busy though. Good for him. Let Ricky hide in England he was gonna get beat anyway.

Gamboa’s chin is open like 7-11…For those that don’t know what that IS its a neighborhood store that never closes. Broner can’t wait to go to Lunch.

OH LOOK Fight Aficionado has found another Ultimate LOSER to support. Gamboa can’t beat Broner. His time came and went. He stayed on the shelf during his grace period and now its too LATE. Broner has now transformed from tadpole to Full Grown SHARK. And he will eat Gamboa UP.

Fight Aficionado-Go take a READING class. I didnt give any excuses. I told you what Gamboa’s Excuse was. And IF he ever faces Broner he will need another Excuse after his LOSS.

“Broner would knock out Gamboa, Its funny how the usual suspects hate on certain fighters.” – Says you. I say Gamboa KOs Broner. If by usual suspects you’re referring to me you’re right: I hate on overpaid cherrypickers who duck the best comp available.

I can’t see either Rees or Burns doing well against Bronner. They’ll both get hit and neither has a big enough punch. Of the two Burns is better suited because he’s bigger and faster than Ress, and has better D, but Bronner just seems to be at another level.

Broner to me needs to move up to 147 were there is stiffer comp, At 140 there is no one who will test him…

Broner is the Zab Judah of this decade, looses to all the better fighters. Watch what happens when he gets pressured and tagged good !!

Posted December 29, 2012 9:44 pm

This should have been Burns versus Broner, which would have been a good matchup. Burns was number one in the lightweight division until Broner moved into it. Now Broner and Burns need to fight to decide who numero uno is. I like Rees, but he will not be competitive against Broner, Broner is shaping up to be an elite fighter, like the Andre Wards and Floyd Mayweaqthers of the world.

Posted December 29, 2012 9:26 pm

prideofvirginiabeach

Rees is supposedly taller, but that guy can’t be more than 5’3. I admit, for such a tiny guy, he’s done a lot, but it is a joke to say he’s more than speed bump in Broner’s way.

Posted December 29, 2012 8:08 pm

HHLondon

Neither Broner nor Burns have proved much so far. so to say one is ducking the other is nonsense. It’s a big fight, so don’t blame the fighters, look to the management/promoters. Both want to secure a decent purse for the loser. No different today than it was 50 years ago. Burns looks much better at 135lbs, so does Broner.
Let’s see what happens.

Posted December 29, 2012 7:49 pm

The Kingslayer

Harry – Frank engaged Golden Boy in talks for the fight and passed the offer on to Ricky, it was Ricky was came back and asked for over $1 mill.

Posted December 29, 2012 7:35 pm

The Kingslayer

For those who think Ricky isn’t ducking Broner please explain these two actions. 1. Broner becomes Ricky’s 130lb mandatory, so what does Ricky do he moves up to Lightweight. 2 Golden Boy approach Burns to fight Broner in Feb, what does Ricky do he asks them for over $1 million. On what basis does Burns deserve a fee like that ? that’s easily half of the HBO budget right there.

I am British, but I have to say that Rees has NOOOOOOOO POWER whatsoever. He is only 5’3 or something like that. He is going to get annihilated, I hope he doesn’t get hurt too badly and gets a decent payday.

Posted December 29, 2012 3:03 pm

The Fighter

Good Fight but you always feel that these fights are over hyped to sell. Its your basic former champ fighting the new breed…young, energetic, nearly unstoppable. Most of the time it ends in favor of the ladder. A good name fight but as far as skill level no comparison “The Problem” all the way.

Posted December 29, 2012 2:20 pm

HatersBeWare

Who is wrote this story- is this Rees’s mom.. “Little Gavin was always a sweet and lovable lad.” He notes that the gentleman has a “rock” chin, is an “exciting fighter”. At this point no one has every even heard of him outside of those on that island over there across the pond- I you tubed some of his fights– He will get knock out inside of 4-5 rounds..

Your definition of closely is wrong then!!! Gavin Rees may not be as well known as Ricky Hatton but he’s the European lightweight champion and held the WBA 140 pound title for a short time – a boxing fan should have at least heard his name.

Posted December 29, 2012 11:13 am

@Aaron, not too closely then. Rees held the WBA light welter. He isn’t great, but isn’t too bad either. I expect him to test, but eventually succumb to the better boxing skills of Broner.

This fight should only be on HBO or Showtime. A pay per view would be crazy. The only way Broner is getting on pay per view in the near future is if he does fight on the Mayweather undercard.

I am Scottish too and I think thats bo**ocks buddy, Burns has not been approached to fight Broner, when has Ricky ever ducked anyone? and why would he start now? hes the kind of fighter who actually wants to fight the best its not him that decides who he fights you should know that.

Posted December 29, 2012 7:31 am

The Kingslayer

No but Rees is a legit opponent for Broner, the problem is he’s just on another level. I am Scottish and I admit that Ricky Burns is ducking Broner, Ricky has let me down.

Aaron

Very surprising Broner took this fight. I follow boxing fairly closely and have never heard of Rees. Seems like it doesn’t really build up his name, but then again he’s only 23 so he has a long time to build up his rep and record. Also, I thought Mayweather wanted to put Broner on the May 4th undercard. Three months is a pretty short break. I guess Broner thinks this will be a walk. Probably will get a TKO win, but I bet he takes some damage (Broner has hardly taken a punch yet) along the way.

Posted December 29, 2012 4:57 am

Mike J

Broner is an extremely fast learner, and despite is amazing talent, he still listens to his corner and gets better with every fight. He learned alot from his win over Ponce De Leon and he will carry that into his fight with Rees. I wouldnt be surprised if Broner stopped him late.

Posted December 28, 2012 11:01 pm

Fighters that walk forward, throwing shots with speed, good at the weight are the only fighters out there that will give Broner problems.Broner looks uncomfortable on the back foot and anything decent above 135lbs is gonna give him problems.I think Burns walks into the ring favorite. Rios at 140 wins for me as well.

Broner is the best thing since the common Tortilla… let’s face it, he has it all.. defense, speed, talent, decent height and is good for boxing. I don’t see anybody giving him trouble until he faces the big boys.. (ie-Brandon Rios, Gamboa, etc.) He’s pathetically walking thru most fighters and needs to get in with the BIG DaWgs.. just sayin’

LikeISeeIt

Broner really doesn’t have competition at 135. Abril might stump Broner for a few rounds but his lack of power will show by the mid rounds. Rees has almost no chance. There is no point to this fight at all. At best this is a stay-busy fight for Broner, but, unfortunately, there’s nothing left for him to do at 135. He’s going to have to move to 140 and challenge guys his size.
