i think barthelemy got to comfortable he seem like he was aiming for the knockout instead of just boxing he was landing at will so he thoughtt he was going to get him out of there but usmanee prove how tough he was and battle back if they fight again im sure rance will box this time and use his jab more but i still think it going to be another tough fight i think usmanee got him figure out now i think in the rematch he going to be more confident now

I thought it was a close fight, closer than Atlas had it, with an edge to Usmanee. A home town decision in a close fight is a given. Too bad, but that is the way it is and it is not something new.

Very bad decision, we talk about bad decisions overseas but the worst ones , I’ve noticed take place here in the USA. Teddy Atlas id correct, we need a national commision

What close rounds? After dominating the first two rounds, Barthelemy’s performance nose dived. The third was a transition round when the fight shifted, and after that he lost every round except maybe one, and in the last round he was getting pummeled — I thought he was going to get knocked out. That decision was nothing more than home cooking.

Bazooka

I saw it a close fight probably a draw not a robbery at all you could call it a questionable decision but when your in someones backyard you have to do a little more to get the benefit from the judges especially in close rounds.

They actually had a white guy on FNF? On ESPN?

Posted January 6, 2013 7:59 pm

I agree that the Cuban dude is the better boxer but he lost that fight no question. If you ever have a chance to watch it again you will see in the third round he starts taking alot of body shots which seemed to surprise him and throw him completely off his rhythm and change the momentum of the fight because he was now thinking about what his opponent was doin rather than what he had to do. He would of dominated had he stayed focused on his gameplan and kept using his jab. That bein said props to Usmanee who fought his ass off and made the right adjustments to win in the publics eyes at least.Just not the retarded monkeys scoring the fight.

It’s not just corrupt judging that’s the big problem, it’s also corrupt referees. Look at this cheating piece of crap. No wonder he ALWAYS fights at home where he’s ALWAYS Guaranteed to have an American referee, as he has had for EVERY SINGLE ONE of his fights. Any fair referee would’ve DQ’d the filthy creep, never mind taken multiple points of him. Mr. Reiss didn’t even give him a warning. ROFL.

Which round did you have 10-8, and for which fighter, I could only guess that you had Arash winning the last round 10-8, though no knockdowns in the fight.

Posted January 6, 2013 5:46 pm

Finally saw the fight, had it a draw. I gave Rances the first 3 rounds, and Arash the last 3. Problem I have is that many of the rounds I thought were close, Clearly Rances won the first two, and I had Arash clearly winning the 7th, the 11th and 12th. I looked at the Spanish telecast on ESPN 3, while Atlas had it 117-111. the person on the Spanish telecast named I believe Delvin had it for Arash 115-113, and I think it a far more accurate reflection of the fight. On the other close rounds that I saw, and have not disclosed how I scored, I gave Rances the 6th, 8th and 9th. While the judges have been criticized, I think the IBF is far more responsible for the outrage this fight has generated. This was supposed to be an IBF eliminator. It was certainly an important fight in both mens lives. Since this was the case, should not neutral officials be put in charge of such a fight. You have a referee from Florida, two judges from Florida, and another judge from not far off North Carolina. Though it might have been adding to the costs of such a fight, why could not their have been besides a judge from Florida, not another judge from Canada, and perhaps some other neutral official. As someone else mentioned about ESPN should take some responsibility, could they not be involved in getting these judges with the amount of money Disney Corporation, and pay for their plane trips and hotel room? I have to admit, I have always had difficulties with Cuban fighters, and have always been in the minority of opinion on those fightt. In the case or Williams-Lara, which I saw on TV live, and the Rios-Abril fight, I had scored those fights a draw. Finally, why is it considered okey for a foreign fighter to come to the US, and have to be judged by American judges and have an American referee. Could you imagine the outrage if an American fighter had to go to Germany, and have a German ref along with German judges in a title fight?

“the first two rounds barthelemy was landing the jab at will timing usmanee everytime he was landing left hooks but u got to give usmanee credit for making adjustments.” – Cosign. Barthelemy was shockingly dominant when he was boxing. Why he turned to slugging is inexplicable. But we must give Usmanee credit for making him fight in the only way that gave him a chance at winning.

Fight Aficionado

A rotten way to start the new year. I’m a fan of Barthelemy but he lost that bout. He totally gave up on his boxing skills by round 4 and was squared up for most of the middle rounds trading punches like he never learned proper technique. Both guys showed plenty of guts but Usmanee turned it into his fight.

You hit it spot on about some of these networks being more pro active. Often if it were not for the TV money, I would wonder if these boxing cards would be able to made. Though I would be concerned about HBO or Showtime mainly because I feel that they appear to have vested interest in the success of the fighters they cover. The one that comes to my mind is when Alexander fought Kotlenik, and appeared to be favoring ALexander. I recently watched the old fights between Sven Ottke and Charles Brewer. I’m part German, but I felt that in both cases, Brewer won close decisions, though my German is not so great, in listening to the German telecasts, it appeared that the German announcers were totally biased against Brewer, and seemed to deride the American judges who scored the fight for Brewer in both cases, so that would be a concern. I do feel that like in the Pacquiao-Bradley decision, perhaps judges should be forced to explain to a TV audience why they scored a particular fight for one fighter over the other, it doesn’t have to be shown on the same day as the fight,

Turned the sound off & watched the fight pretty good entertainment until the winner was announced. I had it close with Barthelemy loosing. He reminds me of King Khan who will be promoted to hell & back. H Not much there beyond the hype!

And yet many American fans have the audacity to criticize other countries for bad decisions and use it as an excuse to justify their fighters never travelling abroad? ROFL. You make me sick the lot of you. I wish misery and woe upon each and everyone of you insular looking hypocrites. May all of you children be born with the AIDS.

Usmanee looked horrible. I thought for sure he wouldn’t make it out of the 4th. He looked like another hyped Canadian fighter. A guy who has honed his skills beating sub-par competition and now practices bad habits as the rule. With that being said… The guy was a warrior and beat Barthelemy soundly. Hell Rances was about to go in the 12th. I can’t see how any judge had Rances winning that fight. I say that knowing full well Rances is the better Boxer. Friday night though? Usmanee was the better Fighter!

I think networks like ESPN should be more pro-active against corrupt judges. They share some of the responsibility for these disgraceful televised decisions. Moreover, while Teddy can be annoying at times, his visible anger at this decision was right on the mark. Keep ‘em honest Teddy!!

I’m not an expert on judging fights but from what I saw I feel that Arash Usmanee won this fight. However, I am an expert on what annoys me and I think Sonny bales had it right when he wrote that ‘Teddy Atlas is impossible to listen to’ and a ‘repetitive commentator’. But what about Joe Tessitore? From the beginning of the show he was talking about other sports in Miami over the weekend and he does these other sports comments constantly. Then to make matters worse they introduced a competitor from another sport to talk with them, during the fight, about other sports. I certainly don’t want to hear their ‘analogies’ to other sports or their constant patting each other on the back about how great the other is. The only sport I watch is boxing and these two clearly the worse commentators I am aware of.

i hope they put usmanee back on tv again he deserve it i already pick him to beat barthelemy when the fight was made he got a good story and background he prove in this fight what he was made of and showed that he a pretty good fighter and someone to lookout for rance was focus the first two rounds but then he lost his focus and stop using his jab i think usmanee showed that he was the better fighter that night tho

Posted January 6, 2013 1:34 am

LikeISeeIt

I thought Usmanee won this fight. He found his range while Barthelemy stopped using his jab. Don’t know why he did that…as it looked like it was going to cause Usmanee problems all night. Anyway, Usmanee did a pretty good impersonation of Tim Bradley by shooting some shots, turning Barthelemy and then getting out of range again. I think Barthelemy started to turn the tide around the 9th round for a couple of rounds but he then started to tire out.

it was a robbery for real…I am a Cuban and I had to change the channel after seeing Bathelemy having such a bad night. He looked like a dead man after 5th round.

Posted January 5, 2013 3:53 pm

It was robbery no question at all and it pisses me off cause the afghan guy fought with everything he had, showed a true warriors will. its ridiculous and one of the major things hurting our sport. I wonder if behind the scenes Teddy ever confronts these crooked judges cause I would love to see him try and get an explanation for these decisions. It ruins what was a really entertaining fight. The fight looked like it was gonna b dominated by the cuban in the first two rounds in the third the afghan dude started a strong body attack which made the Cuban lose his rhythm and abandon the jab which was so effective. But it was all because of those body shots in the third. Great fight, horrible decision

Only whiny anti-boxing tards call it a robbery, go watch ufc.

Big Time robbery all the cuban guy had was a left hook the afghan had good body work throughout the fight less power and still almost put the cuban on his ass as for gonzalez he needs to get serious he looks like he gets bored still have him on a watch list for the simple fact he never has looked scared like other pr fighters after they get hit once on the chin but he still needs work.

Robbery, too bad for the Afgahn kid, he looked real good, he should have stayed to make a statement, not good to walk away. When this happened to Mallenaggi in Texas he spoke up for himself about disgraceful judging and because of the truth behind the speach where he criticized Golden Boy and the Caiz refferee work he got better fights, these guys need to speak up for themselves as well.

the first two rounds barthelemy was landing the jab at will timing usmanee everytime he was landing left hooks but u got to give usmanee credit for making adjustments and coming back he was throwing some good body shots on rance that hurt him but rance showed heart tho both fighters did usmanee should of won that tho no questions

Barthelemy looked unstoppable in the first two rounds. I still don’t know why he started fighting close in round 3. He looked pathetic from then until round 10. Starting at 10 thru 11 and 12 they were very close rounds. So at best Barthelemy wins 5 rounds.

jon, gonzalez is lucky he was fighting a older journeyman or would have been stopped , he ate left hooks all night , don`t know where he gets off showboating , he barely pulled it off in the last 2 rds but did nothing to improve his stock

Posted January 5, 2013 10:39 am

this is why boxing has completely died in miami , people are tired of paying good money to see mismatches and fixed fights , plus all these incompetent refs and judges that were grandfathered in , we need a governor that is a big boxing fan to step in and replace the whole commision , fla has always been a backward cow town and until changes are made , will remain the same

Posted January 5, 2013 10:36 am

joeyo

i remember years ago teddy atlas saying how incompetent the fla. boxing commision is and is still just as bad , i only watched half the fight and saw the cuban way ahead , i guess the fight took a big turn around later , once again governors appoint these commisioners and can replace them including all the incompetent refs and judges , it is the only way to save boxing , including reversing bad decisions or declaring them a draw

Jon Gonzalez is pure hype, he is slow of hand and foot with no power. He already got a gift decision last time out. When he fights a top 50 guy he will lose, unless the judges are in his promoters pockets again.

until theres a governing body never have your fighter take a fight in texas or florida where I was told Wednesday may 16 2007 by a florida official “if a rounds close, we give it to the home town fighter” do you think those 3 judges have florida ties or Spanish relatives?

Looked like the Afgan dude was trying hard and maybe won but the Cuban started doing better when I turned off the sound. Teddy Atlas is impossible to listen to. His meglomania wrecks enjoyment of almost any fight. Also sick of the constant lionization of this supposed “master” trainer. Who exactly has he ever trained for any the length of time? His most famous moment was probably getting Michael Moorer knocked out by 100 year old George Foreman. This man is a self-created myth and a drearily repetitive commentator.
