THIS GUY IS JUST A HYPE JOB, HE FIGHTS NO REAL FIGHTERS, DELA HOJA STARTED OUT BY CONDEMNING THE LIKES OF ARUM AND KING, SAYING HE WILL CHANGE BOXING, BUT HE IS TURNING OUT A BIGGER CON MAN THAN ALL OF THEM(KING, WARREN AND ARUM)

Its crap its ruining the sport. Heavyweight “especially the tall ones” who only want to fight guys who are totally crap and don’t reach their chin. Watching someone on a heavy bag is more interesting. They should force all these giants over 6’6 to face each other. That would be interesting. My money would be on Price. Grant too old. Wach and Fury about the same, not bad but just too goofy. Dimentriko and Tony Thompson about the same, just not enough power and aggression. Ustinov a freaking beast but no enough skill and speed to match other good big men. Wilder a freaking joke, Skip Scott maybe some potential in 1 or so years. Helenius, really should have had a rematch with Chisora but like his power and the way he moves. Price, a bigger version of Wlad – Freaking dangerous.

hmmmmmmm I see someone who knows that he will lose very badly against the first heavyweight he faces who actually comes to fight and that is why he and his team very wisely continue to face extremely over matched foes.

hmmmmmmm I see a short fat taxi driver outside. Maybe a step up in competition for Wilder.

WTF seriously WTF………………….. he should be fighting Dennis Boystov not the guy Dennis smashed to pieces. I mean at least fight someone your size. Tye Fields, Fraudley Harrison, someone who can reach you. Worse than Tyson “coward” Fury.

Alex

Can’t wait til this guy gets his chin taken off by a live opponent, though i doubt Goldengirl will match him up against someone wih a pulse.

Hope Wilder will fight someone a lot better than Greer. Greer has only beaten one opponent with a winning record and that was a 1-0 fighter.

abdu

I just want to see him BOX from one fight

Ban corrupt judges

Other than staying fit I can’t see what this fight does for Deontay. It won’t get him any new fans, He won’t learn anything,. His credentials as a challenger will not be enhanced and he can’t be getting great money. I just don’t get it. Maybe Deontay would rather be top of the B class than risk himself in with the A class.

TARK

The author notes, “Greer’s last opponent of note, Dennis Boytsov (31-0) stopped him in six rounds in Germany” … Right. Boytsov is undefeated, on the same tomato can circuit as Wilder, and going nowhere fast. Deontay said he was going to step it up after the Kelvin Price fight. This is a huge step down and it’s an 8-rounder.

Joe Lewis fought scheduled 10 rounders after his 5th pro fight… He was matched with Max Baer and Primo Carnera within 14 months of turning pro. Back in the 1930′s you had weaker competition at heavyweight, but Louis had a trainer who believed that tough competition produced great fighters and weak competition produced slack fighters. What incentive to you have to train your ass off when you’re fighting Matt Greer? Even if you have great discipline you learn very little from such fights.

@ Larry2013……………………Guinn, Grant, Johnson journeymen? Are you really that dense. Not a journeyman on the planet beats any of those guys. Those guys are fringe contenders/contenders, and two of them are former world title challengers. But yeah, he should be at least fighting journeymen like Firtha, Gavern, or Dingaling. Greer is a record padder. Not even journeyman.

@ Aye Mainge……..David Price is fighting a top 30 HW next time out, and has fought 3 solid journeymen in consecutive fights previously. Wilder has faced only one, Owen Beck, in his entire career.

huckster

wilder found another trash can whoop.

AYE MAINGE

At least Wilder’s staying busy and the quality of his opponents, [while abysmal], is really no worse than David Price, who also is getting a bit long in the tooth. As for both these guys ability to take serious punishment vs better fighters, it appears that we’ll just have to continue to wait.

Larry2013

I was hoping Wilder would fight decent journeymen in 2013, like Kevin Johnson, Guinn, Grant, Pajkic, etc.

T-Bag

hella disapointing, i like watching wilder and he almost stepped it up in opposition last time, thought being on showtime would= better opposition level and more showtime coverage….

Gumboot

True Ned, but to market Wilder as a contender is just dishonest. Credit to him for staying busy but 4 years, 35-0 and barely a breathing opponent at all?? Does he have no ambition at all?

Posted January 11, 2013 2:40 pm

Fight Aficionado

Good Wilder’s staying busy, bad he’s still facing journeymen after 4 years as a pro. Nobody should be talking about him as a contender until he faces one.

Posted January 11, 2013 2:28 pm

Ned

Wilder reminds me of Ty Fields in his heyday. Down deep you knew Fields would never be champion, but he was a lot of fun to watch. Wilder has that same entertaining quality. He’s always in shape because he stays busy, and there’ll always be a knock out. For those reasons, Wilder will continue to have a large fan base.

Yaaawwwnnnn! When will this guy step up and fight anyone decent?!!!!

LOL…

Posted January 11, 2013 2:05 pm

come on!

Either Wilder is scared or GBP’s is terrified to step up the competition. I have never seen anything like this from a former Olympian. His chin must be pure garbage.

Posted January 11, 2013 1:58 pm

come on!

Ok,this is getting ridiculous now. The Bronze Bomber? The so called Joe Louis bum of the month club looks like championship caliber opponents, compared to these guys Deontay Wilder is fighting. Of course Wilder is no Brown Bomber by any stretch of the imagination, but he is also not showing the ambition to compete anywhere near the elite level at this point. The man was a medalist in the Olympics and has a 26-0 record, yet he continues to fight at a bottom level. What the heck is going on? He stays busy, so rust can’t be an excuse; why is this young 6’7 heavyweight not stepping up against tougher opposition. He takes one step forward and two steps back. With all due respect, Matt Greer got KTFO by a 41 year old (legend) James Toney in 2 rounds, three years ago. In James Toney’s in his prime by his
26th fight he had already fought Mike MacCallum, Michael Nunn, and Iran Barkley! Wilder’s idol the great Joe Louis on his 26th fight KO’d Jack Sharkey in 3 rounds, having already fought Primo Canera, Max Baer, And Max Schmeling!!!! And neither Toney nor Louis were medalist in the Olympics, yet both are legends. Wilder is should have thought ahead before he decided to utilize the all time great Joe Louis name as a spin off. Bomber should be nowhere in his name!!! Stop cheating the public GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS!!!

hey the guy at least keeping it bussy, he stepped it up (a little… very little) against Price… i dont mind fighters who fight every other month, even if it is weak comp… eventually he will step it up… i am sure of it

Posted January 11, 2013 1:50 pm

It’s Me, Ernie

Malik Scott has a better resume than Wilder. It’s getting old Deontay and so are you, get with it before you lose what fanbase you have…

Posted January 11, 2013 1:36 pm

Mike Dino

I understand that no promoter wants their fighter to fight stiff competition too early in their career, but this is getting ridiculous. Wilder is a bronze medal winner that hasn’t stepped up his competition since he became a pro.
