Chad, Audley Harrison lost by KO when he was 36 years old, Olympics age limit is 34 for a reason. So, you can not compare the accomplishment of an old dude with one on the top of his game. Do you remember Ray Seales, Mohammad Ali, Leon Spinks, Floyd Patterson, Michael Spinks, Andre Ward, George Foreman, Henry Tillman, Ray Mercer, Joel Casamayor, Ronnie Harris, Pernell Whitaker, Oscar de la Hoya, Joe Frazier
Lennox Lewis, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Wladimir Klitschko. Are they good boxers?? Well, they all turned PRO in time, and all of them are Gold Medalists in the Olympics. In boxing sometimes you lose one two 3 fights, and it does not mean your a bad boxer

Do you even believe what you are saying Sir?? you are insulting a boxer that has more than 400 amateur fights with only few losses. I could understand if you say that rigo is no match for donaire because you are routing for donaire, but to say that if he looses it is because he just performed badly…it is ridiculous…it is the insecurity for the boxer that you are rounting for that makes you say that, because you are not even sure if donaire could win. You are already making excuses about donaire loosing 2 months before the fight. You do not know boxing. They are both good fighters with high accomplishments…if one looses it is because the other was better…it is that simple. Also, apart from any sport requiring practice and discipline, it is something you got to have in your heart, unfortunately records here do not matter…in Cuba there is not such thing as pro boxing…meaning that all of that that you are calling amateurs could actually be pros. Cuba does not have pro baseball and go check records of how many times they have beaten US with all of their pro million dollars players. I do not know who will win but I tell you, the best will win.

Donaire will knock Regondeaux out if he fight him from the outside and
keep away from Regondeaux straight left and body punch.

i feel sorry for those guys saying rigo will beat the hell out of nonito. rigo has beautiful style, great counter puncher yada yada.. its like you are saying an “and1 basketball player” who has beautiful style and all that can beat micheal jordan in a one on one basketball match up.. look at audley harrison, who was a great amatuer fighter but a bum pro boxer.. viloria beat nonito twice in amateurs.. well guess who is the better fighter now. hopefully after the fight rigo’s retarded fans can come up with good excuses..

who told at u that most rigo fans cant type the problem is that u guys are blind for the philipines boxer cues they have manny u guys thinks that they are the best of the best but they dont . rigo have way more record than nonito donaire 2 – more aggressiveness 3- better style and a thousands of reflect more than nonito donaire any ways a lot of people can say what they want but at the end rigo will be the champion .

Still it will be a risky fight. No question about the Nonito’s carrier, but chances are to see him in trouble on this fight. I hope to see a good fight, I hope Rigo will be showing his boxing hoping to win since this is the best oportunity he have had in his proffesional carrier to move up…..It is not an easy one. Let’s see what happen….

unfortunately…. most rigo fans fans can’t type

this fight looks good on paper but on fight night, it’ll be a mismatch! nonito is just too much for rigo!

Posted February 13, 2013 9:27 pm

that is a great point, I do think that Rigondeaux needs 2 more fights to be ready for Donaire, but I still think that he can pull this off

Posted February 13, 2013 7:33 am

hey at least they aint dodging anybody, IMO it has a chance to be a great fight, but also a chance to be a pretty stale fight, both counter punchers so I hope one of them engages

Titopa

SREDMOND – I agree! Most people don’t understand that here is a HUGE difference.

Posted February 12, 2013 4:49 pm

SREDMOND

Titopia, as you know its a TOTALLY different game!! Roy Jones and Mayweather had losses in the amateurs and who remembers the guys that beat them? NO ONE because those guys did not go on to be effective in the professional ranks where the contests are 4x as long, no headgear and the emphasis is on HARD, clean shots as opposed to the amateur scoring system… The mentality and culture are different, MONEY is on the line and the motivations are different… PLENTY of Champs got dumped by guys in the amateurs that could not hold their JOCKS in the pro’s…. This is the real McCoy, Donaire is a special talent

Posted February 12, 2013 2:57 pm

Titopa

SREDMOND – I agree with you 100%. I too often use Cotto vs Pinto as an example of how the ams and pros are WAY different.

Posted February 12, 2013 2:49 pm

SREDMOND

I don’t want to bash Rigondeaux but the idea that Donaire is a fraud till he beats this guy is in a word CRAZY…With all this talk about “proving oneself” I cannot understand why Rigo is being overinflated because he stopped a ONE fight Champion like Rico Ramos…Donaire is a VERY proven commodity he is at the level where if he does NOT stop his opponent its considered and underperformance, just like it was when Pacquiao was streaking….

Posted February 12, 2013 2:16 pm

Anonymous

Rigo was all that as an amateur and a good pro, but can he go 12 without being hit…that is the main concern….Donaire is a great pro

Posted February 12, 2013 12:41 pm

SREDMOND

Technical skills are terrific but they are often overcome by the superior athlete… Anyone who thinks Donaire cannot box is simply STUPID, he sets traps, he often invites guys in because they are afraid to open up with him…. He adjusted against a crafty pro like Nishioka started catching him with the uppercut, then he invited him to the ropes as he became more aggressive and instead of the left hook, he shut him down with the straight right hand.. He discussed how he was getting the timing and trajectory of where Montiels head was going to be before the slammed that shot into his skull…Add to this the fact that he is improvisational, explosive and hard hitting you have a combo that makes for an elite fighter… Proclaiming Rigo the next coming based on what he did as an amateur is AMATEUR….

Posted February 12, 2013 11:17 am

SREDMOND

Beating Gamboa and Mares in the amateurs is FINE but again its not indicative of how professional bouts would play out… Kelson Pinto beat Cotto in the amateurs and then he got knocked out in the pro’s…Its a totally different level of boxing, the goals are different, the fighters are much TOUGHER and KO’s lurk around every corner… I think Mares is a good fighter but he has not handled his best comp in the way Donaire has… He had an S/D against a diminshed version of Darchinyan whereas Donaire SLAUGHTERED him when he was undefeated, Mathebula is a freakishly tall fighter for the weight and Donaire broke his jaw… Montiel had NEVER been stopped or even lost a UD, and Donaire had him convulsing in 2 or 3 rounds OUT cold…Rigondeaux is going to be an anticlimax and I hope you guys don’t start with the PED talk when he goes down.

Posted February 12, 2013 11:06 am

SREDMOND

Hecdog, Marquez is only running to someone who is so dogmatic, literal and unsophisticated as to NOT understand he is trying to give himself maximum bargaining leverage in this upcoming bout….He has made FAR less money than Pacquiao so now that he is in the one up position he has to take advantage as well he should… Marquez runs AFTER Pacquiao he does NOT run from him thats why he was around at age 39 to knock him out…Rigondeaux’s wins with headgear, big gloves, 3 round fights are impressive at the amateur level but the pros is an entirely different story… No one is paying attention to the white part of the gloves nor scoring blows with very little force.. Donaire is a lethal counterpuncher with either hand and this neophyte boxer is going to get SLAIN….

Posted February 12, 2013 10:53 am

Rigo hasn’t lost since he was 18-19 yo….2 losses his whole amateur career…..He will make Donaire look like a chump…..Seriously Rigo is a thing of beauty…..He hands down has more knowledge of boxing than ANY other boxer out there….He also has a somewhat suspect chin(That is why this is even happening)….So we’ll see….But honestly can’t see Donaire winning this one.

We got a potential FOY here if the deranged Rigondeaux screws his head on and signs the contract. Here I’ve been calling for Donaire vs Rigo since last year and Rigo is the one who could get cold feet? Fight or GTFO.

A lot of you guys think the left hand is all Nonito has and that is very shortsighted and type-casting. Nonito disposed of Nishioka and Sedrenko with right-hand hits. He will do the same thing to Rigo. The cuban will looking out for the haymaker left and will get hit with Nonito’s covert weapon – his straight right that broke Sedrenko.s nose and floored Nishioka. With either of Donaire’s ahnds, Rigo will kiss the canvas and before he goes to sleep Rigo will wished he never talked thrash about Donaire .

the “at” button doesnt work on my ghetto ass computer. Would someone please please ask this for me on the forum page ( If the powers that be were ever to some way start a comission to oversee boxing like bad decisions, matchups that arent bein made and should, questionable decisions by refs, rankings etc How would something like that get started? Who would you talk to, to even begin brainstorming on something like that?) Im sorry for changing the subject fellas, just wanted to hear what you guys think and if you even want somethin like that. thanks

problem today is there’s no longer a long list of good fighters in each division…once a champ beats a couple of contenders, there’s no where to go but another weight class

Posted February 11, 2013 4:54 pm

Hecdog you are on an EPIC losing streak Pacquiao just got slaughtered now you are going out on the limb for this Olympian pretty soon your credibility is going to rank with the lower elements of ESB…. Rigo has NEVER seen anything like Donaire and thats reality he is NOT faster than Donaire, does not hit harder and he is NOT as athletically talented when this wipeout is done are you going to trot out your PED routine that seems to be your fall back? Or will you claim that Jesus is going to protect Rigo when even Jesus has his money on Donaire taking this guy apart… LOL

Posted February 11, 2013 3:23 pm

IRON MIKE

As soon as Donaire lands a clean shot of Rigo it will be over, Rigo will not be able to handle the pwer of Donaire, and at his advanced age it wont take Donaire long to land it, I see a very brutal Ko by about round 4, Donaire will work the body first couple of rounds to take the speed and mobility of Rigo then it is just a matter of time -peace

Posted February 11, 2013 3:22 pm

Titopa

Rigo will look sharp for the first few rounds….but once Donaire makes an opening and lands, Rigo will fight to survive.

Malacchi,
In boxing if you are a fighter not a runner knockout is possible. I never feel bad from Pacquiao lost to JMM because in my mind that’s what boxing is all about. I will feel bad if Pacquiao didn’t fight and keep on running then got caught by JMM.

Posted February 11, 2013 3:12 pm

Malachi,
That’s how generous Pacquiao he sacrificed that lost to JMM just to make him rich before he(JMM) retire from boxing.

The knockout lost is a blessing to ccrybaby that Pacquiao will give him a 5th fight that he can make the bigger paycheck in entire boxing career.

hecdog is rite bout rigo, he does have all the tools. Im still thinkin its a toss up. Theres no way in hell its gonna b easy for one or the other. Im puttin money on Rigo just cuz i know the odds will be way too high for Donaire. The odds will get closer as the fight approaches but jump on that bet soon if you can

Posted February 11, 2013 2:59 pm

Great matchup! Good for both of them taking this fight. Rig’s got serious amateur experience, but he hasn’t fought anyone even CLOSE to Donaire or Donaire’s level of competition. And Donaire’s been on such a role lately… Hard to imagine Rig winning this one, but he’s got a chance.

The El Paso Fight Prophet

I am always right here and the hateres know it. The winner of the fight will Be Nonito and that Is my prediction and I am sticking to it with no last minute changes. Now you all can feel free to jump in it is safe that I have predicted the winner.

Posted February 11, 2013 2:52 pm

Titopa

hecdog – Yes, Rigo does possess some things that Donaire’s yet to face…but the same goes for Rigo, who has he faced in the pros that’s anything close to what Donaire brings? Easy, NO ONE! Rigo is pretty technical, but what happens when he gets hit? Do we know how he’ll react? Who has he faced that was able to touch his chin? Wasn’t he once dropped with a jab? Ah, yes, he was. Bottom line is he’s still GREEN as far as the pros are concerned, once he feels Donaire’s speed and power he’ll go into full amateur mode, he’ll try to land just enough to win or not get knocked out..same thing ALL of Donaire’s previous opponents have done. They all had a plan until he landed…Rigo will be outgunned and stopped.

Posted February 11, 2013 2:44 pm

largo

YES, Donaire takes this by KO but plz, leave Mares outta this discussion because Mares
is on a different planet than Rigo; Mares will take Nonito’s heart…

We are going to say, where was that guy that said Rigo was gonna knock off Donaires head??? Guess that guy quit posting on ESB because thats not going to happen…

F.M B

I wonder what all you guys are going to say, after Rigondeaux knock Donaire’s head off, on April 13?

Posted February 11, 2013 1:53 pm

Titopa

I understand the importance of a good/excellent amateur background, it helps prepare you for the pros, but it doesn’t add to your pro accomplishments, at with only 11 bouts, Rigo is still an inexperienced pro. You don’t wear headgear in the pros, it takes more than landing pitty pat punches to score/win in the pros….it’s a whole new world. Donaire is a FAR more experienced pro, he’s been in the ring with the much better opposition and he’s beaten some of the best…two things Rigo has YET to prove he can do. In this fight, If this were the amateurs, Rigo wins, hands down…but it’s NOT, it’s the PROS and Donaire is the FAR BETTER pro. He wins this one via TKO/KO.

SREDMOND

Donaire is receiving the SAME punishement that Mayweather, Ward, Pacquiao and any other TRULY dominant fighter receives not matter who the opponent and what they accomplished they make it look too damn easy and thus people are reluctant to believe their own damn eyes…I guarantee that if Donaire blows out Rigo and somehow a Mares fight was made and he beat Mares the detractors would say well he needs to keep moving up in weight… Adrian Broner has barely gotten started and he is getting raked over the coals for walking thru the available comp, MEANWHILE his first fight at 135 was against the BEST guy in the division and he toyed with and blew him out….The reality is that some of these guys are so good that there are NOT many who can truly challenge them but when you put them in the ring with current and NOT over the hill ex Champions you can only give them credit….

Posted February 11, 2013 11:39 am

SREDMOND

Including Vic Darchinyan when Donaire ex;ploded into the big time, his opponents during his past 14 or so fights had a combined record of 423 wins, 29 losses and 15 draws, the notion that he has “not been tested” is comical while capturing Championshis in 3 or 4 divisions.. MEANWHILE this Olympian that has you guys bamboozled has ONLY fought in 5 scheduled 12 round bouts in his entire career and you think he magically is going to be the stiffest test of Donaires career?? or that we can only respect Donaire as a P4P fighter and Champion after disposing of this guy?? Before getting knocked out by Donaire Montiel had NEVER even lost a UD, he had 44 wins, an MD and SD loss.. Darchinyan has lost 4 times since Doniare took his 0 pretty much all to name fighters but Mares, Moreno and Agbeko had to beat him on points… Donaire crushed him…

Posted February 11, 2013 11:06 am

SREDMOND

Donaire was disposing of MORE accomplished fighters than Rigondeaux YEARS ago when he fought Darchinyan he was not given a shot due to Vics standing in the sport, undefeated record and punching power instead Donaire not only won, he was schooling Darch and making him look silly in the ring..I have watched him STARCH 3 top fighters via blistering counterpunches Montiel, Donaire, Nishioka…. The notion that Donaires moment of truth is going to arrive against a fighter with 11 bouts who’s big win is Rico Ramos is simply a joke… Since when does a standing P4P fighter get vetted by a guy with UNDER 15 fights??? I really hope that when Donaire makes this looks easy people are as generous with the praise…Seriously the guy is a multi-weight Champ yet we cannot breathe easy till he beats a newbie??

If Donaire is really in “another level” the only thing that he will needs to do is beat Rigondeaux…but if he thinks that Rigo is something like Arce, Vasquez, or Nishioka he will be an easy target …

Posted February 11, 2013 8:28 am

SREDMOND

This is NOT a super fight, Rigo’s rep is based on amateur exploits I don’t care how many he won… Donaire is on another level and according to this bogus writer some of Donaires prior opponents were overmatched because they got knocked out, if Rigo gets taken out is he gonna say the same thing????

Posted February 11, 2013 6:25 am

A 50/50 fight, but I’ll go with Rigondeaux. He’s seen all styles.

no clue

I”m all for seeing top dogs facing each other given all the cherry picking and record padding that’s going on in boxing these days BUT i do feel this fight is a mountain to high and too early to climb for Rigondeaux… They rushed Vargas into facing big guns and he became damaged goods in short order…

They both have skills and power. Either fighter can beat the other. That is why is a Superfight. Two skillful boxers.
