You’re right Pedro, especially if he carefully picks his opponents and avoids the best in the division as Mayflower did.

Amazing!! 23 years old..wow!. Hey Benitez won the jr.welter championship at 17. Me thinks that “Tomato can Ray” would squash floyd or Broner like bugs too.

Broner is no longer a prospect. Mayweather at this age wasn’t generating as much talk. He’s going to surpass him with flying colors.

#6 P4P in the World at 23 yrs old!! Broner improves at the speed of LIGHTNING. HE is on his way to being in the GOAT discussion. He just beat a guy who was 37-1 yet he’s SO SKILLED that people SAY that he should face a REAL challenge. LMFAO!!! Hey you guys had better NOT LOOK at Sugar Ray Robinson’s resume of opponents. You’d be HIGHLY disappointed and understand why I call him Tomato Can Ray.

Nothing too surprising here. I TOUTED Broner as the BEST Prospect in the Sport YEARS ago and I was CORRECT as usual. I’m almost as GREAT as a teacher as I am a Fight Prophet…. I even taught the EXPERTS to make Broner #6 at 23 yrs old. I also taught everyone to EXPECT Broner to WIN and I taught them WELL. Just read the posts.

What’s the problem? Broner just moved up from jr.light and feather before that himself?
He would have more problems against some of those Jr.welters up there though.

Aficionado, how is Gamboa evenly matched when he will be coming UP in weight to fight a guy (Broner) who is catching flack for smashing a guy who came down from 140?? What’s wrong with Broner cleaning out the division he’s only 23!!!! I have no issue with a fight between them but it’s not the most natural at this point who the hell has Gamboa beat at 135??? Broner wants another belt from Burns what’s wrong with that?? Guys are contradicting themselves because they don’t like seeing dominance… It’s too early in Broners career to start riding him like crazy… Besides I think Gamboas regular trips to the canvas spell doom against Broner who is fast as hell also and likely hits harder than anyone Gamboas fought to date.::/

Boxing has come to what? I want to see competitive matches, not blowouts and beat-downs. Gamboa vs Broner would be too one-sided. Broner vs Bradley @ 140 pounds I think would be a real chess match — a very competitive and interesting fight.

People keep acting like Gamboa is a real threat to Broner, well, he’s not. While Gamboa is athletically gifted like Broner, he’s no where near as technically-skilled. Gamboa is defensively deficient and has lapses in focus. Plus, Broner is naturally larger than Gamboa. While it would be an exciting fight, it wouldn’t last long — Broner would pick him apart and then deliver a beat-down. Bottom line: Gamboa needs to stay the hell away from Broner, if he knows what’s good for him. You want to see Broner really tested? Someone like the very resourceful and determined Tim Bradley at 140 pounds is THE fight Broner’s critics should be asking for.

Fight Aficionado

Redmond who else do you think would be an evenly matched opponent for Brroner? Aside from Gamboa IMO they’re all at 140 and despite what ESB reported yesterday I don’t see Broner saying he’s moving up. Gamboa did say he’s willing to go up to 135 to face Broner so that’s not an issue.

Posted February 17, 2013 12:46 pm

Gamboa does not even fight at 135 and he’s caught in a PED scandal.. Besides how often does Gamboa fight?? I would not mind seeing that bout but frankly Gamboa is not being well managed, he’s way too inactive for a guy who has not really broken thru. I predict Broner will be at 140 before a Gamboa fight can happen, besides Gamboa keeps hitting the floor against lessor boxers and he’s not Tito Trinidad who needed that to get warmed up in hi prime..

Posted February 17, 2013 12:28 pm

As I said last week Broner would KO the midget with no punch. Anyone with two eyes knew that. Problem is 135 is thinner than it’s been in many years and the only good fight here is Broner vs Gamboa. Do it.

limey jay

broner done the job at hand against a smaller and far less skilled fighter in rees, was i impressed ….yes with shot selection , power and , finishing i was very impressed….with his defense not so much, i understand that rees was never going to hurt him, and broner knew that , thats probably why he was a little slow starting, i guess he wanted to test rees,s power. however he got hit more in two rounds than floyd,s been hit in his last ten fights.
i,m not saying that his defence is poor just that he was a bit sloppy with it , i believe he can tighten it right up when facing a harder puncher, he will have to.
gotta give rees big respect for trying to take his shot, he kne when the fight was announced that he was gonna struggle, but he didn,t bottle it, he reached for the sky, asnd came up way short, but won a few new fans in doing so.
as for broner well the sky is his limit he is a truly gifted fighter, but we as fans need to see him tested a lot more , burns will give him different problems to rees, i expect a tougher fight but with the same winner, no shame as broner is special, and good for the sport, if he can fine tune his persona and step out of the floydalike routine, then i,m sure his fanbase would grow worldwide, just needs a smidgen of humility, but keep the humour and flashness. you americans should be proud of the guy he is a rare talent.

Skelo, that was a well reasoned analysis of the bout Broner was definitely not worried about Rees, he was in the corner and told his trainer he would give him a couple more rounds then it was a wrap… Rees got a payday and more exposure than he has in his entire career, he had to get knocked out to get it but oh well!!

god you’re dumb, he took those shots from rees cause he knew rees couldn’t hurt him.

skelo999

I watched live in the UK and while the pundits after were not happy about Broner’s HBO interview as it showed a lack of respect for Rees, his interview with Sky afterwards which i dont think would have been showed in the US, showed a lot of respect from Broner towards Rees. I think Broner plays up to the cameras particularly for his home US audience, but no doubt he is a special talent and to me he could have got Rees out of there anytime he wanted after he took a look at him in the 1st round. He knew Rees couldnt hurt him, so he took more risks and totally disregard Rees as a puncher. I think against a bigger well known puncher he may go into a Mayweather type performance, with more empathis on not getting hit.

No one in the UK (that was interested) except perhaps in Wales thought Rees stood much of a chance, but he went for it and deserves respect for that. Rees is a tough domestic level fighter but the fact that he was a world champ around 6 years ago doesn’t change that we knew that anyone with class would easily defeat him.

As for Ricky Burns, he is a level above Rees however the sheer speed and accurate punching power of Broner will be far to much for Ricky Burns, who is a very good and honest fighter but hasnt fought anyone at the level of Broner, and I fear will be exposed badly.

And what makes it even worse is that the poooor guys who whooooped his ass weren’t nothing to write hoome aboout. Yes it is broo. In fact, American fighters ALWAYS have American referees presiding oover their fights when they fight at hoome, whereas it’s coommoonplace for Euroopean fighters too have American refs presiding oover their fights when they fight against American ooppoonents in Euroope. It’s certainly noo cooincidence that American fighters generally get their asses kicked when fighting oon the rooad. It’s a coompletely different stoory when they have too face the same disadvanges and adverse coonditions fighters froom the rest oof the woorld have too coontend with all the time. That’s why they never dare venture too fooreign shores, because they always need everything stacked heavily in ther favoour too pull oout the win. Biased refs, coorrupt judges, industrial amoounts of rooids, and many oof the oother huge perks and advantages that coome with hoome advantage. @ Goonzoo. Is that true about Hopkins, Ward, Floyd and Broner always having American referees presiding over their fights? Out of their combined 157 fights they’ve had American referees no fewer than 155 times?? Jesus man, that’s a simply staggering statistic. I really don’t know what to say to that, mate. Having a biased home country ref is an absolutely massive advantage for a fighter to have, especially for extremely dirty ones like them who’s styles are so heavily reliant on the use of excessive dirty tactics.

Broner is definitely the real deal and has all the speed, power, technique and talent in the world. He’ll likely be the next great, undefeated American fighter under 147lbs after Mayflower retires. But that was one of the all-time worst ring entrances I’ve seen in over 30 years of following boxing. It hurt just watching it — like nails on a chalkboard. Ouch!!! The Prince

Broner may really be a “problem” for fighters. He seems to have the same excellent timing and skill set of Floyd Mayweather, but while Mayweather is defensive minded, Broner is offensive minded and goes for the KO in his fights. Keep in mind, Floyd fought more aggressive in the lower-weights as well, but that was usually after the opponent gave him a reason to. Broner is what Floyd would have been, if he was trained by Roger Mayweather his whole life–or so it seems.

Mr.Saito

Gonzo, as I pointed out, I agree that Broner’s tactics are illegal (and they are dirty, irrespective of other folks here that just gloss over those tactics as if they were something to be proud of); but I disagree with you that it’s just America fighters. Do you remember Ricky Hatton’s victory over Kotstya Tszyu? Hatton employed a lot of dirty tricks in that fight. I am a boxing fan, and as such I like veteran moves; but Broner’s tactics, just like Hatton’s tactics against Tszyu are dirty. Broner’s minions will excuse him for any and all tactics; they are not objective boxing viewers.

Posted February 17, 2013 1:40 am

Broner definitely uses some dirty type of tactics with his elbows and forearms but it wouldn’t have made any difference against Rees. The guy was simply WAY TOO SMALL to pose any kind of real threat. Rees had heart and grit but that’s not enough to win against a good fighter who is much larger than you. Broner is showing great skills right now. It will be interesting to see him fight a legit threat, someone his own size and strength, someone he can’t easily overpower. Hopefully he doesn’t turn out to be another PBF, only fighting guys who have no chance of winning. I hope not. Guess we’ll see.

Terroor Tim.. shooving yoour elbow in yoour opponent’s throat and face all night is illegal simple and plain. As is pushing yoour opponent down with it, soomething the ref had already warned him aboout but coonveniently did noothing when he did it again too set up the final knoockdown. Every single oone of those knoockdowns was set up by an illegal elboow.

I have no idea how Rees fought at LW he is short, but then again who cares? He just got blown out and sent to the airport… Broner is going to get grief which is unfair if he cleans up LW because these cannot compete with him… That body shot was wicked Rees looked like he took a crap… Tough little dude though gotta give him that…

I knew that was coming. As soon as Broner destroys an opponent his critics suddenly ask ‘when is he going to fight some real competition?’ They ask this while COMPLETELY forgetting the fact that Rees is a very top 135 pounder, and would have given anyone but Broner in the division a VERY tough fight. To those critics, I say YOU SUCK!

lol, what are you talking about? This guy used to fight at 130. He is still young. He will be moving up even before most reasonable boxing fans would suggest he would. I still think he has work at lightweight to do.

Goonzoo the Dragoonboorn – ESB Pooster of the Centuary

The Poonce.. STFU yoou inbred toooothless f@g. Mares is a dirty f@ck toooo and I’ve seen him catch plenty of crap foor his cheating. Yoou see what yoou want too see and disregard the rest because it dooesn’t fit with yoour agenda. Brooner is a dirty as hell with thoose elboows and the oonly reasoon he gets away with it is because he, like the rest of his felloow cheating f@ck ccountrymen Hoopkins, Ward, and Mooney May, ALWAYS has American refs presiding oover his fights. With the exceptioon of Hoopkins oon TWO occasioons, Noone oof thoose cheating f@cks have ever had noon-American refs foor their fights. Add up all their fights and subtract TWO0. Lool. That’s why they pooint blank refuse too travel, because they woon’t be able too get away with their cheating if the ref isn’t in the bag.

Come on with your excuses red neck wholes, we know they will be coming, and the next brit whole you lot put in front him will get an even worse beating. Now go and cry in your beer.

Is Broner ever going to fight someone his own size? How can anyone talk about him as a p4p prospect when all his wins are against tiny opponents? He won’t have power or reach advantage if he moves up. He is fairly exciting but everyone can be exciting when teeing off on a smaller guy.

upper cut

you guys are just mad because broner beat Rees up , dirty or no dirty he got beat up

Posted February 17, 2013 1:28 am

Patrick2, exactly. No disrespect to Rees. I would watch this guy fight again. He was NOT intimidated, not even after being downed. Guy can fight, just not against Broner.

Rees came to win that’s for sure, but unfortunately he ran into The Problem.

Broner, still young, still learning, keeps getting better and better and doing it while dismantling world-class opponents.

The more he wins the more haters he will have, just like Floyd..

Haters Haters Haters. i am not even a big fan of Broner but to call him dirty is just being a hater. He won fair and square. Change anything you want he still wipes Rees out. His counters landed clean, watch it again as I am.

The Prince

You got to love the biased boxing fans. When fighters like Mares low-blow and rabbit punch their way to victory, everyone is giving him credit an calling him the “Real Deal”. Broner uses his tactics to win fights and haters want to complain. Good stuff. Well, I’m out until next time.

Broner is the real deal…but lets give credit to Rees a real tough warrior small but rugged.Broner has some big fights in the future..along with big paydays.

Beating a midget up with Hometown ref does not impress me

I believe I got the round right. Rees is a tough guy but he should probably see if he can’t make 130. I know he fought at higher weights but this guy looked small tonight. Broner is good. Not sure if he is great. He clowned Rees early as HBO was saying. He has work to go yet. I want to see him fight Vazquez or Abril. He is still the future of this sport in the USA.

Posted February 17, 2013 1:16 am

Mr.Saito

Broner is a borderline dirty fighter. He uses the same tricks Mayweather does: Elbowing and forearming opponents in the face; Elbowing and forearming opponents in the throat; holding opponents down with the left hand then striking with the right (he holds them only long enough to be able to hit them); holding opponents in place with a forearm to the throat then throwing an uppercut. The referees almost never warn him for any of these tactics.

Gzvin Rees was beaten like a dog.

Posted February 17, 2013 1:15 am

WHAT!?!

Nice hometown ref. First time I’ve watched Broner and I’ve also seen Burns. Give me Burns anyday. Broner looks like a hype job who’s opponents are carefully picked along with the referee. Not impressed at all.

Good win by Broner. Rees made it entertaining. Good for him.

Absoolutely disgusting hoow they let Brooner get away with using his elboow, shooving it in his ooppoonent’s throoat and face coontinoously. Noo wionder Flooyd, Ward, and him pooint blank refuse too fight ooverseas where they woon’t have American refs every single time they fight.

We all know who is going to win. Lets do a round? I take the 5th. Rees is tough but Broner will want to get him out ASAP. He is looking to make a statement.

hookoffthejab, I looked at this guys resume early yesterday and I thought it was obivous he was not ready for this fight. Bika has been in with Calzaghe and Ward, this guy has been in with nobody and has like 7 kayoes.

Have to laugh at Broner’s comment on the Bika fight. “I am not a fan of letting a sweaty man touch me.” Not always a fan of his bravado but that was funny. Boxing is hit and don’t be hit, he gets it.

serbian guy is tuff 27 and 0 resume full of no names getting a few in now and then bika in control though …..

Bit of an upset with Cherry beating Escobedo. Didn’t see that one coming. Sort of makes Broner’s victory over him look a bit less impressive.

fingers crossed for the upset ….
