Taylor was the favourite to win…and lost…Abraham was the favourite to win and…Lost…he was underdog v both Ward AND Kessler and ye…he lost….fact remains he has many hardcore fans because of his willingness to take ANY fight out there. Froch is limited…we know that…hes no technical genius…but who says every fighter has to be Andre ward or Mayweather. He has the respect of the hardcore boxing fans cos they know this guy ducks nobody! Id be interested to know who he DIDNT seek out….?

Some utter bull being spouted on here. “Froch deserves an easy fight” – the most pathetic statement ever made. Taylor, Dirrell and Johnson were average tests, certainly not ‘elite’ (Taylor used to be, 5 years ago at middleweight). Abraham was only ever good at middleweight, and has no names on his record anyway. But was a good fighter but overrated.

The only two top people Froch has faced based him. Ward destroyed him with one hand. Just look at Frochs face after!

Truth is, he doesn’t seek out the best names at all. He entered Super Six to boost his profile because he had just won the WBC belt and couldn’t even get on SKY. This fight isn’t a warm up its a disgrace. You don’t see true ‘elite’ fighters taking on bums from other weight categories. He should have faced Cleverly or Groves.

i think this is more of a case of no-one else wanted the fight certainly no in nottingham anyway i think carl deserves a first defence at home something which he has never had i might point out. kessler and pavlik both refused the fight so did oothsizen (dont know how to spell his name) froch is probably more frustrated than all of us so i am actually worried for him a bit still gonna bang this punk out though lol.

Lets not dress this up, this is an awful fight. Froch is quite obviously cashing in big time on his recent Bute success by picking a fighter who will come over here and fight for next to nothing. Mak has absolutely nothing going for him. He’s been KO’d by far lesser fighters than Froch so from a fans point of view he’s a dead duck going into the fight. Whats the point? For someone who puts Calzaghe down this is as bad as any of Calzaghe’s defenses. From Frochs point of view he really is not getting any younger either, at this stage in his career should he be fighting at such a crap level. Surely he would have been better off giving a more up and coming fighter a shot. A George Groves or James DeGale would have pulled in a crowd, even other less proven fighters would have at least left the element of the unknown.

Yususf Mack is by no means a bum, he was the first to dent the iron jawed Librado Andrade putting him down in the first before running out of gas, and he was no beaten by Tavoris Cloud in a one-sided fight last year, in fact he was a point up on one scorecard and a point down on the second and 3 pts down on the 3rd at the time of the stoppage and he gave Cloud a good run for his money. However after Froch’s diplay against Bute I expect Froch to stop Mack but he can’t afford to take him lightly.

Im not having a pop at froch. He wanted Pavlic and oosthuizen. Matchroom are to blame IMO. they could have atleast got an old washed up name. This could well turn out to be a great fight, and i will be watching from the comfort of my sofa. Had he been fighting someone more note-worthy, i would be in nottingham to watch it.

I wonder if Froch thinks the fight will be as easy as the posters on here. This is a world title fight I think Mack will be very motivated for it – my only slight worry is will Mack get down to the 168lb limit without affecting his performance – I think he’s been fighting at light-heavy for quite a while now.

Just found out ticket prices for this fight start at £113 !! I aint payin that to see Froch vs Mack. Many other fans will have the same mentality as me too. I think Theyve made a mistake in fighting a relatively unknown guy very unknown to less hardcore fans), i realy cant see this selling out. Im a massive Froch fan as alot of people on ESB already know, and i know what people mean when they say he deserves an easy fight, but this is way too easy! What would people say if Mayweather decided to fight Lee Purdy? Or Andre Ward fought Paul Smith?

As far as Froch is concerned I am not one of his fans but I do respect him as a fighter.He has ducked nobody ever.If he wants a soft payday why not as long as he meets his obligations to also fight the best and he always does.I do agree the ticket prices should be lower for this type of fight.

As a Kessler fan, even I know that Froch deserves an easy warmup to Bute. Bute will clearly defeat Grachev, who looks good against losers, but is an easy fight for Bute, if he fights like we are used to seeing before Nottingham. Froch has two difficult fights ahead of him in Bute and Kessler. Don’t buy into the hype that says that either Bute or Kessler are easy fights. Bute at home, fighting clever and the always dangerous Kessler are hard work. Let him get this warmup.

Oosthuizen should steer clear of the likes of Froch & Ward for now. At 34ish Froch maybe has 3-4 fight left in him which hopefully include returns with Bute in Canada & Ward on nuetral ground. The young guns are starting to come though @ 168lb & if Oosthuizen & George Groves stay undefeated I’m sure could sell out a major stadium in the future. As for the likes of Kessler, Steiglitz & even Bute, James DeGale is EBU champion & I’m sure would be pushed to the limit.
Does anyone know if Nathan Cleverley has retired?

I have to admit I was a little disapointed with this match purely because Kessler and Pavlik’s name had been thrown into the mix so much. Froch does deserve an easy night more than most fighters out there. Yusaf Mack is a big puncher but falls short at World level, I don’t expect this fight to go past 6 rounds and I expect Froch to batter him. I don’t see this as a bad fight, it’s actually a good bit of match making from Eddie Hearne, low risk and very easy on the eye as the styles work well.

Froch is going to KO Mack. This is by no means a really easy fight but consider the level of comp he has been fighting, he deserves a little bit easier of a fight even though he had an easier time with Bute. He deserves this. And he will win by KO. I don’t think Mack knows how to lose on points

For Bute, the risk-reward equation is an interesting and risky one. If he wins, he moves into the rematch with momentum and confidence. If he loses, his career could hit a cul de sac from which it would likely not recover. No such issue for Froch.

What makes Bute’s choice of opponent even more remarkable is that the Montreal-based Romanian has serious designs on winning the highly anticipated rematch with Carl Froch in Montreal next March.

Froch just wants to protect his title a while. It’s not the end of the world. However, Mack isn’t even in the Top 10 Ring Magazine rankings–or any top 10 for that matter. Seems to me a champ should be fighting higher caliber opponents. But hey, much worse things have happened in boxing.

This is getting beyond ridiculous now. You whiny little f@gs are carrying on like Mack’s a complete bum. Mack can box, he’s much bigger than Froch, and he can bang. He’s a perfectly acceptable challenger for a so called ”easy defence”. It’s not like there’s an abundance of available highly ranked opponents out there who were lining up to face Froch. I actually think this is going to be a pretty exciting fight while it lasts.

And what is with the Bika obsession, the man is so so far below world class. Mack is genuinely dangerous, as a bigger man with a solid KO rate that has been in one very close title fight. Bika has hardly won a round in three world title fights, one of which was against a fighter with a broken left hand. The south african guy is unbeaten, but also unknown. Hell, fighting Degale or Groves would be a bigger fight than a Saffer that no-one has heard of (and he has a draw on his record, with someone else I’ve never heard of). Mack is a name because of his good showing in his prior title fight, it should make for an exciting fight, and that sells tickets, something I couldn’t say for any of Bika’s title fights.

As for other big names, I would have rather seen Kessler, maybe Dirrell or Pavlik, but I don’t think Kessler is an option yet (that’s got unification written all over it down the road), Dirrell doesn’t want to go back to Nottingham, and Pavlik needs some warm up fights, hence the need for someone like Mack.
