Boxtradamus, there are fans and then there are “FANS”. Hopefully none of the “FANS” make the news, were they sold everything, moved to Vegas, and get arrested trying to be near their Super Hero.

In your case, your comparison of FMJ and Robinson, can only have one thinking you are one of those “FANS”.

Anonymous, Robinson also fought as many as 20 fights in one year. And he quickly avenged his second loss by TKO’ing Turpin just a couple of months later in their second fight. Robinson also KOd Rocky Graziano and he beat Henry Armstrong . He avenged his losses to Carmen Basilio and Gene Fulmer by Decision and KO respectively. He beat Jake LaMotta every time they fought (6 times) except once. Robinson was a fighting machine whereas Floyd Mayweather Jr. has fought only 14 times in the last 10 years. Wow. 1.4 fights a year. What a man. Meanwhile, Robinson continues to be considered as one of the top 5, if not the very best boxer of all time, on most “experts’” lists. Robinson was considered to be the P4P all time best by Bert Sugar, and one of the top 15 all-time best punchers. And I assure you that man knew more about boxing than Braggadamus will ever learn.

Boxtra, you must be out of your mind (more so than usual) with this Floyd is better than Sugar Ray Robinson argument. You said Robinson got beat by a nobody when he was 34 yrs old, but you leave out the fact that Robinson had a record of 135-4-2 by the time he was 34 !! He had more KO’s than Mayweather has fights!!! He was 40-0 before his first loss (to Lamatta) and had 131 fights before his second loss!!!! Floyd has just 43 total fights. That’s a weekend in Vegas for Robsinson. And by saying Floyd is fighting better competition, that’s just insane. Though Mayweather does have a strong resume, by the age of 34, Robinson had beaten Jake LaMotta several times, Rocky Graziano, Kid Gavilan (twice), Henry Armstrong, and many others. In the next couple years he went on to split wins, losses and draws with ATG Gene Fullmer, Joey Maxim and Carmen Basilio. He won titles in multiple weight classes and all of this at a time when African Americans were often not given such opportunites.

LMAO @ “We all know that Floyd is not the type to bow down to anyone”. Where do these posters come from? The whole world knows Mayflower was and seems to still be scared sh#tless of the Pacman..

Boxtradamus

Again Ray Robinson got SPANKED at 34 yrs old vs a NO NAMER. Floyd is 36 and facing the #10 Fighter In the Sport. SO its actually Robinson who shouldn’t be mentioned with Floyd when it comes to how GREAT they were post 34 yrs old.

Posted February 28, 2013 2:44 pm

Boxtradamus

Fight Aficionado ducks the FACT that SKILLS is more important than SIZE in Boxing and therefore when Floyd beat the more SKILLED Fighters as rated by EXPERTS that was more impressive than facing anyone from any particular division recommend by AMATEURS. .. SO however GREAT YOU think Floyd would have been if he beat every Fighter in one Division he’s even GREATER than that NOW…And for those who don’t know..after Floyd beats Guerrero he’ll have beaten the Top 2 WW’s behind HIMSELF. Something NO other Fighter in Boxing has done…other than Ward. But surprise SURPRISE!! The haters will say he didn’t beat the Top contenders in BOTH WW and Jr MW. Something that they demand from no one but the GOAT.

Posted February 28, 2013 2:38 pm

SREDMOND

Fight Aficionado, how do you justify your position that Mayweather is “ducking” Canelo when BOTH men have MAJOR bouts scheduled?? We all know that Floyd is not the type to bow down to anyone, he could have done a HUGE money rematch with Oscar who he defeated but did NOT like ODH terms after LOSING so he walked away on the kind of money that 99.9999999% of boxers will NEVER make… Canelo is in NO position to dictate to FMJ and its nuts to even pretend he is…Floyd has already expressed interest in facing Canelo down the road and time only benefits the kid NOT the OLD man who is 36 and only getting OLDER….The only way some of you would be happy is if Mayweather fought Canelo, Trout and Martinez on the same night at a catchweight of 170 pounds wearing lead boots LOL

Posted February 28, 2013 2:29 pm

Boxtradamus

Chicago guy I told you before that AMATEUR perceived running and ducking is no factor in who the GOAT is. WHO beat the BEST available Fighters in his own era as rated by EXPERTS is a factor in determining who the GOAT is…..NO ONE has ever beaten 9 CHAMPS in 10 straight Fights. Also no one has EVER gone UP against 4 of the Top 10 Fighters in the ENTIRE Sport within 6 consecutive Fights. Thats why Floyd is the GOAT.

Posted February 28, 2013 1:57 pm

Boxtradamus

Dan D again I APPLAUD you for seeing what others were too blind, deaf, dumb, or stupid to see. Or they might just be extremely stubborn TOO……Floyd Mayweather Jr is the GOAT. YOUR eyes and rational thinking is BETTER than MOST. I have to admit that you’re pretty SHARP..

Dan D-I APPLAUD you for seeing the TRUTH. The FACTS speak for themselves. Floyd Mayweather is the GOAT. YOU and I will likely be dead and GONE before another Fighter beats 9 CHAMPS in a 10 Fight Span or beat 4 Top 10 P4P Fighters in a 6 Fight Span.

Posted February 28, 2013 12:41 pm

Boxtradamus

Haimat is hilarious. He hates the TRUTH about Floyd SO much that he personally attacks ME for telling it. LOL. Well TOO bad….The TRUTH is that Floyd is facing his 4th Top 10 P4P Fighter in his last 6 Fights which NO ONE can match. SO everyone has been kept out of harms way MUCH MORE than Floyd. The PROBLEM is that they’re not as GREAT as Floyd so when they’re kept out of harms way sometimes they still LOSE…Just look at SRR. HE thought he was out of harms way at 34 yrs old and got SPANKED by a guy who LOST 5 of his last 6 Fights.

FM will not commit to Canelo because he wants only the easiest fights for the most money possible. FM may be a good businessman, but he is a piss poor sportsman. I will never pay to see his fights unless it’s against MP.

Canelo and Trout are the two credible opponents for Fraudie but they are just the undercard. Those listed in his future opponent linedup are all easy fight. Cherrypick opponents

Fraudie is using Canelo to hype his fight. Two Mexican fighters with large number of fans following them. Fraudie got no fan base of his own.So CCanelo deserve a fight against Fraudie if he pass Trout. The question is if Fraudie will fight Canelo, that’s a big QUESTION. How about Trout if he wins over Canelo i think he also deserve to fight Fraudie?

Sorry to say it but I see your point Boxtradamus. I am a believer that t people often over glorify the past at the expense of the present. Ali is a prime example. A total legend, no doubt, but his achievements are over rated. Lets not forget that Kenny Norton had Ali’s number an that he lost to Spinks, a total pro novice. Yet he sits in many P4P top 5′s of history alongside Armstrong and Robinson. We have to remember that boxing in those days was a very different sport to today’s version and I don’t think comparing the best if day with legends of 60+ years ago makes for a fair comparison. I firmly believe that if SRR fought Floyd Mayweather today then it would be a complete mismatch. It’s like putting Novak Djokovic against Fred Perry.

frank no matter what ANYONE says the FACT remains that Robinson got SPANKED at 34 yrs old. Floyd is 36 yrs old and he’s facing a Fighter who is BETTER than the guy that beat Robinson. 125-1 doesnt impress me becase 115 of those Fight were against TOMATO cans. Go take a look at the records of Robinson’s opponents and see for YOURSELF.

boxtrdamus you are correct you do have to ignore what people say all the time but when floyd mayweather uncle who alo happens to be his trainer says ray robinson is better then his nephew floyd that does carry weight and cant be ignored then if I was the person saying it at one time ray robinson was 125 `1 he lost to lammotta who was a real middleweight

Sugar Ray Robinson got SPANKED by a #0 P4P Fighter who had LOST 5 of his last 6. Yet Floyd is facing the #10 P4P Fighter in the World who has WON 6 of his last 6 and he’s SO GREAT that he gets criticized for a MISMATCH. Well SRR scheduled a MISMATCH at 34 yrs old and still got knocked out. Roy scheduled a MISMATCH at 35 yrs old and got knocked out TOO. As long as Floyd doesn’t get knocked out vs Guerrero he’s BETTER than Jones Jr. and Robinson. THAT’s why Showtime PAID him like the GOAT that he IS.

Not surprising Fight Aficianado is supporting the LOSER of the Mayweather-Canelo match up…But I COMMEND Fight Aficionado for complimenting the GOAT. He says that at 36 yrs old everyone knows that Floyd will beat the #10 P4P Fighter in the World. WOW!! That statement alone places Floyd ABOVE Roy Jones Jr., Sugar Ray Robinson. Roy Jones Jr. got knocked out by the #10 P4P Fighter at 35 yrs old. Sugar Ray Robinson first got SPANKED at 34 yrs old. WOW!!

Canelo is flexing his leverage. The ball is in Floyd’s court. If he shuts Canelo out, the numbers could drop and the showtime contract could blow up in his face (provided they can, as I’ve read, opt out after the first fight if the numbers suck). Floyd should agree to the fight guarantee. He presumably doesn’t have much to fear in facing Canelo, is better off facing him sooner rather than later, and will do better business this way. But he might not like Cinnamon boy getting ‘uppity’.

If A loses to B, C should NOT fight A! Why? Nuthuggers are simply looking for outs for their main man. Is this boxing or worshipping? You want to see the best matchups or the most favourable matchup for your man? So what if Trout outpoints Canelo? Canelo is a much tougher proposition to Floyd than Guerrero, regardless if he loses to Trout. Canelo can HURT Floyd.

Posted February 27, 2013 9:09 pm

Very interested in the PPV numbers wtihout Canelo. Floyd vs Guerrero is NOT a mega event.

Love-the-Sport

I think Alvarez does not want to risk fighting Trout if he doesn’t get a guarantee to fight Mayweather — AND THAT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. If Alvarez loses to Trout, why should Mayweather fight Alvarez. Floyd Mayweather is getting older but he is still probably the top fighter in the world pound for pound and he may be a top ten fighter in the history of boxing. Why should Mayweather fight Alvarez UNLESS Alvarez wins? Alvarez should shut up and go fight Trout and beat him and then we can see what is what. But there is no guarantee that Alvarez beats Trout and if Alvarez fights some lesser 154 fighter (Kirkland? Angulo? Martirosyan?) then he is really not fighting a top fighter so again, why should Mayweather fight Alvarez. Wake up guys. The truth is … Alvarez has not yet beaten anybody at the top level.

And no, Canelo is not ducking Trout. The fight is official according to Rafael of ESPN. But it’s not May 4 since Floyd the cherrypicking ducker won’t commit to facing Canelo next. Instead Canelo vs Tourt is April 20. Rafael: “@caneloOficial vs. @NoDoubtTrout will not be a PPV. It will be live on regular @SHOsports. This is great for #boxing.”

Some Boxing fans are SO feeble minded that IF Canelo ducks Trout they’ll blame Mayweather. Canelo needs to face Trout no matter WHAT Floyd does. The rule in Boxing is to worry about your NEXT Fight NOT the one AFTER next. Thats how you get BEAT.

It seems that most Boxing Fans including Haimat don’t know much about Boxing. Haimat is an AMATEUR who says everything worth laughing at which is why I LMFAO almost every time he posts….The History of Boxing teaches us that the Highest rated Fighters in the World are the toughest to BEAT. Guerrero is rated HIGHER than Canelo because he earned his spot the old fashioned way. And SO did Mayweather and Pacquiao. Just imagine Mayweather and Pacquiao DEMANDING Fights vs the BEST Fighter in the ENTIRE Sport when they haven’t even beat a CHAMP yet…..Canelo had better MAN UP and beat Trout. THEN you won’t have to demand the Fight. You will have earned it by clearly becoming the Highest rated CHAMP at 154 other than Mayweather.

Why is it that Canelo threatens to not Fight Trout IF he can’t Fight Mayweather??? Now I can understand IF you don’t want to Fight on his card but where does ducking Trout creep into the picture??? LMFAO!… Canelo is allergic to facing CHAMPS unless he gets a SUPER payday. How can a guy with no credentials try to force a Fight with the Top Fighter in the Sport?? Not only has Canelo not beat or even faced a Top 10 P4P Fighter but he hasn’t even faced a CHAMP. Now he wants to FORCE a Fight with the CHAMP of all CHAMPS??? Nice TRY kid.

Posted February 27, 2013 7:27 pm

Cracker Jack

Very simple equation for Floyd. Contract that Canelo must beat No Doubt and the fight is his. He will have proven himself and earned his shot. Floyd will dodge yet another young hungry champion while cherry picking ‘sure things’. Can’t blame Floyd for being scared as Canelo beat up Mosley a lot more convincingly than he did.

Posted February 27, 2013 7:22 pm

Haimat

It’s not Floyd’s fault that he’s been cherry picking his entire career. Ellerby is the one to blame. He’s a shrewd business man that is screwing the entire boxing public by letting Floyd fight dudes like Ortiz, the Argentinian journey man, former Featherweight Guerrero and Brusseles. Floyd would fight anyone they put in front of him but he’d get beat sooner or later without people like Ellerby and Al Haymond. Cold fact folks!

I cant believe all these idiots down talking canelo for making this request. I it because of you that we dont get to see the fights we want to see. Other fighters should consider this strategy. TROUT??? = no fan base…

Posted February 27, 2013 7:12 pm

Chato

With all the fan base and money Canelo can bring to the table, I can see why he wants a guarantee to fight Mayweather. Canelo is a huge star of his own and sells whenever he fights and to be in the undercard to help someone else’s check get phat without a guarantee for a shot at Mayweather is not good business.

Posted February 27, 2013 7:11 pm

Boxtradamus

Floyd is the MAN. HE is SO much the MAN that Fighters will POUT and pull OUT of PPV title Unification bouts IF they can’t get a guarantee to Fight him. Ishe Smith is more proven at 154 than Canelo anyway. At least Smith has beaten a CHAMP. Floyd should tell him to GO beat a CHAMP and THEN talk. Until then I don’t talk to guys who have never beaten a CHAMP.

Posted February 27, 2013 7:10 pm

Fight Aficionado

Good for Canelo. It shows he’s ready to fight Floyd and wants to step up his comp. He’s utilizing the leverage he has to force Floyd’s hand since he would bring all the Mexican and Mexican American fans to the card. Without him the May 4 card sucks balls. Floyd can suggest Canelo’s next but without a guarantee he could easily cherry pick another safe opponent as he’s done for years. Screw him. Fight Canelo or GTFO.

Posted February 27, 2013 7:02 pm

Canelo will make huge money with or without Floyd. Let Floyd cherry pick these last 5 fights. Floyd is a joke anyway you look at it. He’ll always avoid the tough fights. I’ve never bought a PPV card featuring Floyd and I sure as hell won’t start now. I might buy it if Canelo is fighting but Floyd… nah, won’t happen.

Posted February 27, 2013 7:02 pm

Canelo has to WIN against Trout, Floyd is not gonna face a guy who is damaged goods and just lost… Mayweather wants this fight outside of Pacquiao its the BIGGEST money in boxing for him… And he will get ALOT of cred beating this kid…

If Canelo pulls out of his fight with Trout, Mayweather will never fight him–unless he earns a title against someone a helluva lot better than Matthew Hatton. Still, the author needs to not be so hasty throwing Kermit Cintron’s name around like it’s a piece of trash. Cintron fought to a draw with Sergio Martinez. Canelo TKOd Cintron (well, Cintron took a dive, basicallyl, but Canelo forced him to give up). Cintron beat Alfredo Angulo. And, Canelo beat Mosley just as decisively as Mayweather did. Still, I think a Canelo/Trout bout would be an excellent matchup. I don’t think Canelo is afraid to fight Trout. But he may be afraid that if he loses to Trout, he’ll never get a match with Mayweather.

Posted February 27, 2013 6:52 pm

What is making Canelo believe, he is going to beat Trout? Canelo needs to beat Trout, then demand a fight with Mayweather. Pulling from the fight will make every fight fan to believe, he is scare to fight Trout. Canelo is not to young for big fights. It should be the winner of Canelo-Trout for a guarantee fight with Mayweather. Benitez fought for the title at 17, Hearns was 22 when he unified with Leonard was 25.
