I believe most ringside observers and people who watched the fight would say that Lopez was tough and competitive — but not winning against Ortiz. This suggests that Sept 15 will be a bad night for Lopez. Alvarez hits harder than Ortiz. The only hope for Lopez is to show more boxing skill, more movement, using the jab and double jab has a hard tough stick to keep Alvarez away — and then ideally go to the body of Alvarez and try to get something more damaging done in the late rounds. But I don’t think Lopez is built do to that. Lopez wants to fight. He took a lot of big hard shots against Ortiz and he showed a good tough chin. But that is not a good strategy against Alvarez. He needs to show more defense. He needs to win the boxing match. He cannot win on courage and guts alone. I don’t think he is smart enough to play that game.
