looks like just another stroll in the park on the way to the bank for wladimir.lets be honest there is really nobody in the hw division who has the same kind of skill and athletiscism of the k bros.pianetta couldnt even deck an old buffalo like botha and only get a draw against sosnowski. if u dont have the skill u gotta have the will like corey sanders or mike tyson joe frazier and co. i cant think of any modern day fighter who has that kind of raw attitude ..and pls pls dont talk about tyson fury ok. the best hw bouts are between evenly matched opponents.then u get the kind of action the fans want. why has ufc become so popular? dosnt take much to work that out. thank god somethings happening in the m and sm divisions ..look forward to froch kessler and martinez murray..

Sorry dude are you tellingly that in the last 2 years the BEST opponent that Wlad could find was OLD prior KO victim Thompson???

Again sred, if the top guys at H/W are unwilling to mix with the undisputed champ, what is he to do…remain idle? You know nothing of the inside workings of the sport, you have never sat in on negotations you know zilch pal. All you have is an opinion, don’t get too full of yourself, you are just another poster here, one with an obvious bias.

It’s gone with me and it’s part of the reason that America has no interest in their careers.. If they keep digging up club fighters, cruisers and OLD MEN this is how it will go.. Vitali is already becoming a forgotten man and he has not even officially retired… Woeful!!

there is also the much maligned tony thompson who tons of people wanted to detract from like redmond but tony is probably the best southpaw in the division. a very good boxer and he showed that against price and TOTALLY showed his value against price as well. i always like thompson. he’s a good guy. Im anxious to see what happens in fury vs thompson.

ERIC-hayes not very dark and he’s also not very active. Moreover, he is always talking about retirement. we will see what stiverne has against arreola its a great test but isnt he canadian? then i like jennings and he’s looking good. mitchel and that other guy who’s always talking but never fighting anywone worth a f*** wilder. They should be unranked. there not fighting anyone of note and mitchel keeps getting jacked up in SERIAL FASHION. dudes about FINISHED BUSINESS

Wlad must be setting up a pension fund for his OLD sparring partners both Thompson and Pianeta were BOTH guys Wlad used to prep for other fighters seriously a STRONG opponent is needed at this point… I mean is this article really trying to sell us on 47 year old McCall and 44 year old Botha?

Posted March 6, 2013 6:15 pm

SREDMOND

Wlad has faced 4 REALLY weak opponents in a row and that cannot be changed nor mitigated… Canelo is still in Mayweathers crosshairs but AGAIN Floyd just casually faces PRIME 4 division Champions like Guerrero who just beatdown another PRIME young, former World Champ… Wlad has been fighting OLD men, Cruisers, retreads and nobodies for the past 4 fights… Dispute that and I will break it down in no uncertain terms… Who did FMJ face before Guerrero? Cotto a 3 division then standing Champion and future HOFER who was 4 years YOUNGER than Mayweather and at the time had ONLY one unavenged loss to the Fighter of the Decade (Pacquiao) Wlads recent comp and Mayweathers cannot be compared Wach and Pinatta (pun intended) were absolute nobodies with padded records? beating up OLD juicer Botha@!!! HAHAHAHAHA!

Posted March 6, 2013 4:00 pm

Some of you “experts” have no idea what you’re talking about(sred)K2 has made offers to all the top 10 guys….only Pianeta stepped up. Is that Wlads fault? NO. Pulev, Povetkin, Fury etc. amnagers will not throw them to certain defeat at this time, perhaps later this year or maybe next. One thing we do know…Manny WAS willing to face Floyd as is Canelo. #doublestandard

Yeap wlad will have to face Pulev and Fury in 2014. First he will face a 6’5 undefeated southpaw. OK this is not the fight we were all waiting for and this guy has a padded resume but who else was out there. At least it is not another blown up cruiser or short fat guy. Pianeta is on parr with Wach and that was at least entertaining.

Posted March 6, 2013 9:21 am

Well Primo Carnera was the champ way back when. I can’t think of an Italian fighting for
the title after that other than the aforementioned Damiani for the wbo.

You guys are hilarious. If all goes to plan by mid 2014 Wlad will have beaten Pulev and probably Jennings. Doubt pove gets in the ring. Either way “dont fight Pinata fight jennings”

Then after he whups on both of those guys you will say they were never that good. Then in 2015 you will say wlad needs to stop fighting chumps. Just accept the fight i dont like it either but oh well he can stay busy instead of fight once a year like the resst of the best in the sport.

Francesco Pianeta, well this was somewhat of a dissapointment but then again, he at least Pianetta dares to face Wladimir Klitschko in the ring unlike Alexander Povetkin, Chris Arreola, Tomaz Adamek, Tyson Fury, Odlianer Solis and more. They run and run from Wladimir. So lets see if this fight will be any good.

One thing about Damiani vs Mercer is the title Mercer held was always called the “lightly regarded WBO” belt back then. Now the WBO is just as respected as the IBF, WBC and WBA. They all suck.

“CAN SOMEONE RECAL WHEN THE LAST TIME AN ITALIAN BEEN FIGHTING FOR THE HEAVYWEIGHT CROWN?” – Francesco Damiani vs Ray Merer in the mid ’90s is the last Italian I can recall. It was for Mercer’s WBO belt.

ITALY IS INVOLVED IN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT – IT’S A BIG DEAL ITSELF! CAN SOMEONE RECAL WHEN THE LAST TIME AN ITALIAN BEEN FIGHTING FOR THE HEAVYWEIGHT CROWN?! I THINK PIANETA IS THE FIRST ONE!!! It’s history in making guys! At least for Italian boxing!

You really gotta laugh at the Klitschko haters and their ridiculous complaining. Who ever they fight they complain about them being too old, too inexperienced, too small, or they even blaim them for ducking fighters, but they fail to come up with some names, ( Povetkin is a joke. Pulev will son happen) as if there are someone out there who has the the slightest chance against them. Its more like there are at the moment 2 or 3 fighters who could but up a good fight untill they finally go down.

Posted March 5, 2013 8:11 pm

Lennox Lewis Shannon Briggs

To the poster below. Yes I do notice how the Klitschkos have a knack for sending fighters into retirement. Or at the very least, sending them to a place where they are no where the fighter they were BEFORE getting violated (sam peter, solis come immediately to mind). Such is the lasting effects of their BEAT-DOWNS. Both share GOAT status

Posted March 5, 2013 7:31 pm

IBRAIGIMOV C.BROCK

He has to stay busy. No one really wants to fight him thats got any chance but you have to stay active. Ali fought some pasties when he had to stay busy (lorenzo zanon comes to mind and some non boxing atheletes even). Wlad is so far ahead of the world everyone is a joke or scared, Notice how some of them never box again?

stop whining! a normal opponent! Tall 6’5, undefeated, will bring a lot of attention from Italy. that’s already not bad. remember what lewis or tyson have been fighting with! low-class like botha, Golota, tua, rahman, savareese for god sake!!! so, pianetta isn’t any worse than these guys! Will be good and watchable fight with a knockout ending! Life’s good!

Watched some pianeto on you tube. He puts punches together well, but is a bit stiff and upright . wlad should land punches easily on him. Wlad chased haye around the ring, while haye fell a lot. Who wants to see that again? Thanks for the info on povetkin.

Posted March 5, 2013 5:26 pm

He had to fight David Haye.David Haye is the only man that can beat him.His first victory over haye was not very convincing, he won the fight with the jab landing very few power punches.

2 years ago, “contender list” was: Mitchell (brutally kayoed by Wlad TRAINER), Helenius (embarrased by Chisora), Haye (sheesh), Price (dropped by an out of shape two times Wlad victim), Solis (jelly knee fatso), Wach (done), Pianetta (next victim), Char (done by Vitali), Arreola (racking up wins against club fighters, done by Vitali), Adamek (brutalized by Vitali), Povetkin (avoiding Wlad like the plague for years now), Boytsov (glass hands). Now everyone cries Pulev and Fury and Jenning like Wlad is ready for the taking. See ya in another 2 years.

Wlad is fighting ANOTHER scrub and all the nationalism and racism cannot mask not excuse that… Its his 4th suspect opponent in a ROW, the European guys that Wach and Pianeta beat are NOT even players in Europe so that excuse goes out of the window.. Mormeck is not worth mention he was a DEAD body and Thompson had been stopped already and hand only been fighting guys OUT of the Top 10 and Top 20 during his respite between knockouts..Expecting real boxing fans to applaud these type of bouts is NOT realistic

I didn’t know Pianeta had cancer. So did Anthony Dirrell. Strange how people in their 20s are getting cancer nowadays. Anyhow this is an interesting fight as far as the young contenders stepping up. He’s undefeated and has a great amateur background.

I am a Wlad fan too but as I remember it Wlad asked for the Povetkin fight to be postponed. Doing so only to have Pianeta in between sounds bad to me too… I do think though that Fury and SOlis and Arreola are not wanting to fight Wlad right now. Fury screams after Vitali, Solis pulled out of the IBF eliminator tournament, and Arreola did the same with Stiverne…

Kos….. Wlad has to fight povetkin and pulev this year as they are the mand contenders for the WBA and IBF. This is his vol defence so dont worry the big fights will happen this year.

Posted March 5, 2013 10:13 am

M,
I agree, I am a huge K fan too, but this is such a poor fight, I won’t even bother watching it. Surely to goodness there are better matchups than this. What about Pulev, Povetkin, Fury, Solis, Helenius or even Arreola? All of these have would made for a better spectacle than this shambles.
This bum’s best wins have been against well into their forties over-the-hill fighters; not one fighter on his resume stands out as making him anything more than a journeyman fighter out to get KTFO by Wlad, and a decent payday. Heck, I would have even taken that American joker Wilder, who has fought with more bums than Fraudley Harrison over this!

Correction: Pianeta is in fact 6’5″ ( pretty much Wlad’s size) and not 6’3″ as the article states. He’s also an undfeated southpaw. Not a bad voluntary at all imo. Some people need to cut Wlad some slack. Pulev, Povetkin, Fury (if he remains undefeated) will all eventually share the ring with Wlad, so pipe down

This wouldn’t bother me so much if he fought better comp last yr. Hopefully the povetkin fight goes to plan. If he had enuff 2013 left id like to see him fight pulev.

To be fair he was never going to fight anyone great for his vol defence. After this he has to fight povetkin then pulev so could be a tough year. I wonder if povetkin will have a vol defence before wlad
