SREDMOND

Tito was struggling to make Welter he was CRUSHING guys at 154 so the jump to 160 was NOT that crazy and he was undefeated still carrying power… He blasted William Joppy at 160 and looked like he was going to be able to hang but the truth is Hops was a BETTER, TOUGHER fighter who ended Titos run at the top… Trinidad was NEVER the same…

Barnard Armstrong

Hey yo Bobo, Vargas was promoted by Main Events and Don King made the Hopkins Trindad fight happen. Bernard was always a Middleweight but Tito was a welter who moved up two weight classes in about a year to fight the best.

Them sour grapes of wrath at the Tour de France was given a pass because an ageless atheist named Lance was enhanced by that same vintage juice used by Mien Kampf and now the Nation of Islam’s boxing camp.

cloud should,t had the title to begin with, he was schooled by campillo who was destroyed by Sergey Kovalev. would love to see B-hop against Kovalev but that will never happen. Nobody wants to fight him.

Well I was just explaining and none of those fighters you mentioned are 48. The big thing here is the age and that is why people where gushing over it

Gold, interesting point about Lance Armstrong. And Tyrone, the media fawned over lance too even though the evidence continually pointing to an a-hole full illegal hormones. Plus, look how many boxers that are now known to have used them. Roy Jones, James Toney, Vitali Klitschko, Evander Hollyfield, Antonio Tarver, Andre Berto, Lamont Peterson, Shane Mosley, Orlando Salido, Fernando Vargas, Shannon Briggs, Tommy Morrison, Franz Botha, Sam Soliman, etc..etc..But what sets these two old dudes apart and keeps them from getting caught for so long? A liberal media? Big money promoters perhaps? Would Golden Boy Productions and the Nation of Islam actually stoop to cheating?

Kellerman and Lampley typically seem to get a bit too excited over their preferred fighter. They can also call fights from an obvious bias perspective as well. B-Hop dominated on every level so was not as obvious and it can be.

Peej, them puppets were as giddy as Bert and Ernie yet Compubox shows Cloud throwing about the same amount of punches per round against Hopkins as he did against Johnson, Mack, and Campillo; and all but Mack landed more punches on Cloud than did Hopkins.

What would make Hopkins even more legendary is if he submitted to Olympic Style Random Drug Testing. I’m not saying the man is on anything, due to the fact I know personally of great older specimens that are incredibly athletic and strong for their ages, for the ages! But I know of no one that gruels their body for world class level boxing and not grind their joint towards stiffness and immobility in the process. Lance Armstrong shocked the world, Hopkins should keep that in mind, since, after all he is the ambassador (so to speak) of this sport. Why doesnt he find it neseccary to take stringent testing…is it because he knows he’s honest? He may know that to be true, but as a public figure, we the fans don’t… thats why I never could respect Pacquiao….and still don’t….his excuse would be that he’s young, and that he takes the boxing commissions tests…bull.

Assyrian….. on point! Hopkins must’v felt like he was fighting Roy Jones again (1st fight) with NO ANSWERS!! To be fair to Hopkins, Hopkins is a totally different fighter than when he was younger (even the version that fought Roy the 1st time). Hopkins was fast, aggressive, technical, and very intimidating during his reign!! He’s actually changed his style to a more patient effective potshot style which still happens to keep him in the game. Calzaghe fought a different version of Hopkins….an older watered down version that still happens to be effective. Would Calzaghe have been able to handle the 1st exciting gangsta type brawler – effectively…..some would say no, due to the problems he had with the old version….but, I could say yes also, due to the fact Calz was past his prime as well. Calz could’v probably done what Roy did to him, in their respective primes.

Rangy taller fighters will ALWAYS give Hopkins problems! His legendary status will always stay intact against CERTAIN type of fighters….which is WORTHY of RESPECT and admiration! BUT, he’s been outpointed and left noneffective against those who have no fear against him with rangy punching – behind a jab…..I guess Hopkins believing he actually won ALL his fights (not his 1st 2) motivate him to continue. Ward will hit him with his hands up and still connect inside. Hops is HOPING to intimidate Ward, but it wont work! The ones Hopkins do happen to get inside their heads, usually decrease dramatically in punch output…..in fear of “aura” and accurate counterpunching. Taylor, Calzaghe, nor Dawson etc. had any fear of the man….they felt they had the RIGHT to be in the ring with this man….regardless of how anyone felt they performed!!

Regarding Hopkins Vs Calzaghe – People CANNOT have it both ways! Those who try to diminish Calzaghe’s win over Hopkins try to do so by saying Hopkins was old and shot, but those very same people enthuse about Hopkins big wins immediately preceding losing to Calzaghe, and these equally big wins AFTER losing to him. The fact is that if Hopkins was able to do what he did in the year or two JUST BEFORE losing to Calzaghe, and FIVE YEARS later is STILL doing it, how can anyone possibly even attempt to use the argument that Calzaghe only won because Hopkins was shot? Not to mention that Calzaghe had to fight Hopkins in Hopkins own back yard and at Hopkins preffered weight! Calzaghe won because he was the better fighter, and he won fairly clearly, Hopkins was not really in the fight after 3 or 4 rounds.

@Anonymous….Sergio Martinez should learn from Hopkins and fight Ward! You’d prefer to give Sergio the upper hand in weight cuz youre a “hater.”

Congratulations to the clever determined tactician, but there aint NO WAY he’s beating Ward. Ward knows what Hopkins knows and then some, and if Hops wants to resort to the grappling/clinching crap, Ward can resort to the hugging just as well! Ward is just as patient and just as quick at pulling the trigger from an unassuming position for potshots or quick 1-2s. I guess, Hopkins “believing” he can win is what drives him, and what makes him occasionally defy the odds against shorter opponents that view boxing as roughing up your opponent with combinations and flurries at close range. To Hopkins legendary credit, at this advanced age, he knows how to frustrate the Clouds & Pascals of the boxing world; but he sure aint doing it against Ward!!

Thats because Cloud normally throws over 70 punches a round and he didn’t come close to avaraging that and on top of that Hopkins out landed him at the aga of 48. That is why they where gushing over Bhop

At the end, B-Hop told Ward: “did you write it down? Go and watch the tape if you want….You are here to stay for a long time….i will never fight you”
Then they shook hand…

This is really sad for boxing. A 48-year old soundly beating a guy who should’ve been near his prime at 31. In what other contact sport do you see something remotely like this? Back in the day, except for a phenom like Ageless Archie Moore, you’d never see old duffers like this whipping top-rated boxers. Has American boxing declined so much?

If Hopkins is looking at another legacy fight, Ward would be a big mistake for B-Hop. We know it is unlikely to happen.

Light Heavy is lacking talent, still I don’t see Bute at the top. He wont get past a Dawson, Pascal, etc.
Most of the talent is at Super Middle. I could easily see Ward owning both divisions.

Posted March 10, 2013 2:30 pm

PEEJ

Stop yourself. Bute owning the division, that’s nonsense. Bute is a high B level fighter. All the top light heavies handle, dismantle and will KO Bute

Posted March 10, 2013 12:39 pm

Just goes to show how little talent LHW actually holds…Bute could actually end up owning this weak div.

Don’t get it twisted, Hopkins is a titlest not a champion. Dawson is still champ at light heavy

With careful opponent selection, I think Hopkins will try to win into his 50’s. It would solidify his induction into The AARP Hall of Fame.

Hurray-hurray-hurray for the legend Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins!!! Hopkins is once again the world light heavyweigth champion and a 4-time world boxing champion as well (1 – middleweight, 3 – time light heavyweight). I can and same time can’t belive he made it, Hopkins once again became the oldest man in boxing history to become recognised world champion and in dominant style as well. I’m so glad. At age 48, he did it. Its so uniqe and how Hopkins can do it. No one can ever take this away from him. One of the 10 greatest boxers Pound for Pound of all times.

ok what does hopkins at his age is amazing and he shows that he is still competitive at highest level – this said cloud is nothign special and hopkins was easlisy beaten by dawson who was destroyed by ward – so only reason why hopkins can be word champion at his age is only because of many world titles with some titles held by people who have nothing special (cloud was clearly beaten by campilo who got destroyed by kovalev) so i really think that we make it a bit too much with hopkins – amazing how stil good he is yes but owise he only beat people who really have nothing special
and sorry but i still am waiting for hopkins fight which will not bore me to death – hard for me to make him one of best ever when i never really enjoyed any of his fights-
