Of course Broner will duck Matthysse and the entire 140 lb diviision to cherry pick the light hitting Malignaggi. Question is who let the Brontosaurus behind him into the post fight presser?

Hi sred…..I just wrote out a kinda long winded reply to your post, but for some reason it won’t let me post it.
Basically I think the timing is all wrong for paulie in his career, broner will be to strong and spiteful for paulie, I can’t se him wanting to take too much punishment at this stage , I predict an early night for broner.
But I usually agree with ya fella, u are one of the posters on here I do respect, but I think broners a bit too special for paulie, and will go on to do big hinges in this prt.
Peace fella.

Paulie is pretty much done. Broner isn’t really a lightweight & Paulie might actually be a welter but with a bantam weight punch. I bet at the weigh in they both look like 140 guys. Paulie wouldn’t still have a title at 140, oh that is right Paulie didn’t have a title when he left.

Hey Limejay, I am not so sure that Broner will stop Malignaggi, I mean in the boxing world he will be making a substantial leap and its easy to assume that Broners pop is going to carry all the way to WW but we have seen a guy like Pacquiao go on a MAJOR KO drought once he got above 140… Granted most guys he fought were bigger and tougher than Malignaggi but it will be interesting to see this play out. I would consider it a feather in Broners cap if he were able to stop Malignaggi…

I purposely waited this long to see who would proved to be BIASED. Clearly Haimat, Fight Aficionado, terror tim, E in Denver, and MANY others have LOST all credibility. When Mayweather took on the LW CHAMP they were HERE saying how much of a CHUMP he was for that for dragging him UP to Welter with NO experience at Welter…..But I see not ONE post calling Paulie out for doing the same thing…..Or better YET I pat MYSELF on MY back. I must’ve taught the whole World by now that SKILLS is more important than SIZE. So no one is going to make the DUMB argument that the #0 P4P Malignaggi is picking on #6 P4P Broner. They ALL now realize that its the other way around. The Top 10 P4P Fighter is picking on the #0 P4P Fighter.

Sred….broner will stop him, I think he has got the bit between his teeth at the-moment, his power looks immense.
I can’t see paulie taking the accuracy and power for too long at this stage of his career.

No one is taking notice that Broner is STILL moving up 2 divisions and that Malignaggi is a World Class fighter he is NOT a bum 3 of the guys who beat him were a BIG deal in the sport… Undefeated Cotto who he somehow survived to hear the bell, Hatton who was NEVER beat at 140 till Pacquiao turned his lights out and Khan who was streaking at that point… I am NOT saying that Paulie is the toughest WW around, but the truth is that Broner at this stage would be crazy to jump 2 weight classes and get too far ahead of himself, we have NO clue if he can stop Paulie at 147, if he did it would be impressive..

This will be a missmatch with PAULIE not having the punching power to make Bonner respect him. even less the Gavin Reese., however Paulie’s doecent boxing skills may give BRONNER a few round work out. My perdiction Adrian BRONNER KOs Paulie in 6-7 rounds.

Broner is simply the most exciting young fighter in the sport and the expectations on him add that much more to the drama, creating the lovers and haters along the way. Everyone lover, hater, or in between is dying to see if he can live up to those expectations and hype, especially as he takes on the better competition. Malignaggi is a good next step to test his skills. Can’t wait to see this fight.

Pauline will ask some questions of broner , but I expect broner will have all the answers.
Paulies lack of power will be the ultimate clincher in this fight, we saw Rees hit broner plenty to no avail, he didn,t even make broner blink, I guess he wanted to test the power of Rees , and as soon as he knew Gavin could not hurt him he put together his own shots to finish quick.
Paulies a lot slicker than Rees , but he ain’t too elusive , he does get hit, and I,m afraid he won’t be able to take his power for too long.
I know he has a pretty good beard, but he will get hit too hard too often to see the final bell.
Broner is special….wether he fulfills his potential we just don’t know yet, but at this point in time he looks set to be a top ,top fighter.

Im a Broner fan but I am not really excited to see him just to 147. I would like to see him become the champ at 135, then at 140 then to 147. So much money to be made at 140. So not really happy bot this move but I will still watch

Posted March 11, 2013 7:42 pm

Blah, Blah,Blah you guys really want a BRAND spanking new fighter to jump 2 weight classes and go for the biggest guy around? Not exactly how it goes… Pacquiao had over 40 fights under his belt and numerous world Championships before he tested WW… Broner would be a fool to go for a heavy hitter at the weight no knows if he can even campaign there… We know Malignaggi is not a big puncher but he takes a good shot and he is solid at 147….Rush Rush Rush, anything to see a fighter they don’t like get beat.

Posted March 11, 2013 5:18 pm

The Mad Scientist

I think guys like Josesito Lopez, Aydin, Soto Karass and Abregu would’ve been tougher test for Broner than Paulie would but hey boxing has always been a business first.

Posted March 11, 2013 4:26 pm

The Mad Scientist

Paulie looked a step slower and flat footed in his last fight wich really doesn’t matter because he cant punch himself out of a wet paper bag anyhow so Im not expecting to see Broner really get tested against Malignaggi..

Posted March 11, 2013 4:21 pm

SREDMOND

One of the people that Amir Khan fought was Paulie Malignaggi and he did NOT fight Paulie at 147, he fought him at 140 so Broners move is a big one… Again there is ALOT that can go wrong when a fighter jumps 2 weight classes… Guerrero did it but he proved himself against Aydin and Berto, now he is fighting the best guy in the sport… Time to see how he looks against a guy who fought Cotto, Khan and Hatton…

Posted March 11, 2013 4:18 pm

The Prince

I believe this also has to do with boxing politics and money. With Floyd gone from the HBO boxing family, it makes sense that they would push Broner to jump to 147 pounds which is one of the deepest divisions in boxing and where the money and PPV buys are. And what better way to test if Broner can handle it, by fighting a slick boxer like Paulie. No Paulie won’t hurt Broner, but if Broner isn’t careful, Paulie can outbox him and win on the scorecards, especially since the fight will happen in Paulie’s backyard.

Posted March 11, 2013 3:55 pm

The Mad Scientist

I don’t have a problem with Broner taking Malignaggi’s title if that’s what’s gonna happen just as long as he defends the title against the top guys in the division wich remains to be seen..if Broner can clean out the 147lbs division (wich I doubt) I’ll be really impress.

IF Paulie gets the stepping stone treatment its his OWN fault. DID Floyd get the stepping stone treatment when Marquez jumped 2 weight classes to Fight HIM??? Of course not. SO its UP to Paulie whether he will be a stepping stone or not. Just DO what Floyd DID vs. a LW coming UP and WIN.

Posted March 11, 2013 3:25 pm

Dr. Phil Thieze-Knutz

Paulie still getting the stepping stone treatment. Paulie hits like Betty White on a hangover. Crafty? yes. Experienced? Yes. But Paulie isn’t dangerous. Broner isn’t jumping two divisions to face Pac after a long nap,Lil Floyd, or even the welter sized upper body of Marquez & his Featherweight legs. Typical slanted match up for Big Al’s fighters. Broner’s fat genes will be kicking in now that he is getting older. Judging by Broner’s dad(Bruce-Bruce) we might be looking at a 5-7 HW in the next decade. Smash & grab the belt, then bet back to the land of dwarf’s. Big Al is “The Wiz” of Oz. Paulie could end up with a house on his back, sans his title.

good fight to move up 2 wt. classes…Paulie can’t punch but has good movement

Posted March 11, 2013 1:24 pm

Supreme Court

For the herd of peckerwoods, If Broner goes up 2 weight classes, what would prevent Garcia and Mathysse to move up one weight class to WW?
You haven’t moaned yet!
B-hop made you yapped 2 days ago; Ward make you moan; Floyd make you whine; Broner makes cry wolf….
That’s the fate of rednecks…..

Posted March 11, 2013 12:27 pm

I am not so much worried about Broner vs Malignaggi but the notion that he is going to be a hard puncher or get guys of there in the fashion he has at 130-135 is something that has to be proving, he is moving up 2 divisions and PROVEN greater fighters than him Pacquiao and Mayweather were not the same hitters in that division… Will it cost him against Paulie? not likely but if he campaigns at 147 it could potentially be an issue because he might be able to rely on power to end the night early… Only guy I know who is consistently ahead of the game for a full 12 is FMJ and Broner is not in that class as of yet… Time will tell…

“who is to say that Broners punch will carry at 147?”…Well that’s why you don’t depend on your punch. You depend on your SKILLS. Malignaggi’s punch didn’t carry from INSIDE the womb to OUTSIDE the womb but he still WINS on SKILLS….Floyd’s punch didn’t carry to 154 but he still out SKILLED his opponents. Broner’s SKILLS will carry ANYWHERE within 20 pounds of 135 as I predicted about 4 or 5 months ago and apparently Broner’s team took MY advice. Malignaggi is in trouble HERE…..Also FYI Broner has already SAID that he will NEVER face Floyd. SO lets not start hyping a Fight that’s NEVER going to happen….We’ve been there before.

Posted March 11, 2013 12:11 pm

stupid loser

I have always viewed Malignaggi as an over achiever, based on his feather fist and average talent, but willingness to fight the best and pull out some unexpected wins. Broner is raw talent and with him moving up to face Malignaggi will make for an interesting fight. Also smart for Broner camp on the business side. With a win against a WW, with a belt, its a perfect resume to over hype him more and using careful fighter selection, they can build up his $$ draw. Broner camp obviously sees this as a easy match up for their fighter, against someone with a belt in 2 weights up. I hope Malignaggi proves them wrong.

Posted March 11, 2013 12:06 pm

Broner is COMPLETELY unproven at 147 pounds and even though Paulie is NOT a big hitter at any weight he is still a guy who has been in with Cotto, Hatton, and Khan…Its an interesting move for Broner, as for him facing Floyd he would get slaughtered, saying Broner can hit at 130 and 135 does not necessarily define how he will hit at 147… FMJ has stopped 60% of his opponents roughly the same as Pacquiao who is often seen as a BIG puncher but the truth is BOTH men (FMJ and Manny) booked the bulk of their stoppages BELOW 147 pounds… Both men are confirmed ATG’s who is to say that Broners punch will carry at 147?

Posted March 11, 2013 11:46 am

Boxtradamus

The Broner team leapfrogged facing LESSER opponents at 135 and 140 to take on a CHAMP at 147. Don’t forget that Garcia and Matthysse already have Fights lined UP. (Garcia vs. Judah and Matthysse vs. Peterson) Broner would have to wait until the end of the year to face either one of those guys and he STILL CAN. But in the meanwhile why not DO what the GREAT Henry Armstrong DID by holding titles at LW and WW?? Joining Floyd as the only Fighters to have titles in TWO weight classes simultaneously….I think Ward should JOIN the party and let Dawson weigh IN at 175 and SPANK him again. GREAT move by Broner!

Posted March 11, 2013 11:45 am

TARK

Duran moved from lightweight to welterweight.. Mosley did too.. So did Hank Armstrong.. They were all successful in taking WW titles from ATG’s.. Floyd will sweat this guy once he smashes Paulie.. Floyd is a better boxer and defender but Adrien is tough, and he punches harder. He’ll come straight at Floyd and won’t mind losing a few rounds to get his knocks in. Floyd will beat up and stop Guerrero, but it will be tougher than expected because Robert is very strong mentally and will give it everything he’s got. Adrien will be at ringside grinning.

Boxtradamus

I predicted that Broner could beat ANYONE from 135 to 154 excluding Mayweather and Marquez and I will be proven CORRECT. SKILLS is more important than SIZE and after this Fight Malignaggi will agree with ME on that. Broner by DOMINANT UD or late stoppage.

Posted March 11, 2013 11:27 am

TARK

A brilliant piece of matchmaking for the Broner team… They leap-frogged the very dangerous champions at 140 in Garcia and Matthysse — and are positioning themselves for a Floyd fight.. Very crafty indeed.. Paulie is going to get killed. How many rounds did he win against Amir Khan before the referee saved him from further punishment? ZERO!!! Paulie can be easily outboxed. Ricky Hatton out-boxed him like 10 of 11 rounds before his corner pulled the plug. Paulie barely beat a lightweight in Juan Diaz who got murdered by JMM—so coming up from lightweight will be no sweat whatsoever for Broner … Like I said, a brilliant piece of matchmaking.

Broner will not fight anyone dangerous, just weak or small fighters.

This should be a good test for Broner, especially since he’ll jump two weight classes. I’m looking forward to it.

MNboxingFAN – Sean

I think Paulie should make the fight on Showtime myself. He is the champ and I think since he’s a commentator for them he should push to make that happen. I like Paulie as a commentator and would hate to see him lose his gig there just for taking a fight on a rival network.

Traveller..

Hilarious. Two doped-up yank bums going at it. One a feather-fisted joke, the other a hype-job ducking fraud.

Broner ducked future ATG Ricky Burns THRICE. Burns will school and brutally KO that doped-up hype-job yank if he ever becomes delusional enough to think he’s got a chance to challenge the Scottish warriour.
