That was a Hopkins analogy on steroids and you simply and anonymously calling it bad doesn’t make it so, especially without any game attempts to disprove it. I will say this though for you Calzaghe fans, our boxers have tended to duck the Brits and Eurasians. I blame a lot of it on boxing becoming undisciplined and irresponsible, poor work ethics, lack of faith, money worship, pornographic mindsets, etc… etc…etc..

Bad example and analogy Maracho. Pretty pathetic like Sredmond and Swedish.

Oops..I meant to say that Bernard, Floyd, and a few others constantly refer to themselves as slick Afroamericans

Definition of durability: lastingness or permanence by virtue of the power to resist stress or force; able to perform or compete over a long period, as by avoiding or overcoming injuries. Now if Hopkins durability was all about the sweet science, then of course we would be seeing a lot more old fogies reaping these big boxing dollars. I hate to admit admit it, but Hopkins does have a point when he constantly refers to himself a slick American. After all, his ancestors were bred by people who mastered the art of selective breeding and transferred it on to people. Where Hopkins messes up is his instance that it only occurred in the USA. Anyway, tool makers were incredibly intelligent back in the day and animals were their main tools–just look at all the interesting dog breeds that were constantly refined not only for their job at hand but last as long as possible. An interesting example of what I mean still exists among the large gene pools of big Asian mountain dogs where they are developed as important tools to projector livestock. These big boys tear pit bulls to shreds and live about 15 years old. Unfortunately, when they stop using their gifts or are inbred, they usually loose both game, age–durability.

SREDMOND – I agree with you.

Tom

Hopkins is not durable. He prevents being hit cause he stalls letting seconds pass by and holds all nite. Hopkins is boring, did I say boring REAL boring. A fighter to brace up and hold all nite is boring. Whenever a Hopkins fight comes up I rather watch cartoons

Hopkin’s durability is making Calzaghe’s look more and more frail but then the white man is on “average” more “physically” frail. Even so, Hopkins has the hypocritical personality of a cheater just like his golden Boy boss.

It is more difficult to win a fight away, travel, different enviroment etc, but that is Boxing, no problem with that, we are fight fans, fights will be in certain places, so.

Not a bad article but isn’t Wednesday afternoon a little late for an article about Saturday night’s fight? Especially since 5 other articles have already covered it and kissed Hopkins ass just like you do

Say that about any fighter really, he beat everyone, he beat lacy, finished him, he beat Kessler, he beat Hopkins.

Mitchell, just beat Ottke, robbed, Byron mitchell was very strong, you forget about him, watch the fight, Calzaghe v Mitchell.

so apart from a few welsh folk who and why would Joe be best remembered for undefeated and beating the crap out of Lacy after that there was Kessler before that Lacy and oldman Eubank ….

Hopkins is very good, good for Boxing, Calzaghe did beat him though, forget Calzaghe now, Hopkins for longevity.

48 years old, that is very good, Foreman was 46, Hopkins has been fighting without a break, that deserves respect, fighting top fighters, 48 years old, 50 years old soon.

Hopkins beats sub B rated fighters Pascal, Cloud and the blown ups Pavylik, and Trinidad who he head butted. Against the very best Prime Roy and Calzaghe Hopkins gets beat. There you go it shows the B-Hop can beat the B or under guys but the A+ guys he cant hang.

I’m not sure but I will agree with you Swedish Boxing Fan. To become recognised champion at 48 and defeating a 17 year younger champion is an impressive happening in boxing. Also I belive on the comment Joe Calzaghe would have lost to Tavoris “Thunder” Cloud if he had been 48 years old as Calzaghes best weapon was the speed and that would been away at that age and Cloud would have got him with a heavy right hand.

stupid loser – Yeh I agree there. I just getting tired of some people just don’t want to give Bernard Hopkins credit and instead of looking at his skills and victories he makes, he gets s#it from people and at 48 beating 17 younger champs, that is amazing athletic skills. No one else have made it so why dont these people see his greatness as a boxer in the ring. Sure he have made some misstakes but overall a great fighter.

Anonymous – I have watched the fight and I had Joe Cazlaghe as the winner the 2 first times I watched it but after the 3rd-4th and 5th time I watched it, I noticed other importent things that made me change my mind and that was the inside fighting Hopkins was dominating and Calzaghe had lots of trouble in those situations and it wasen’t until later rounds he was the better man but it was to late and like I said, I got Hopkins winner by 115-113. and like I said, there where more expert oppinions supporting the view.

Sred when u say Calzaghe took long to make his mark you have to remember that Calzaghe wanted hopkins years before and Hopkins wont sign the deal. Hopkins avoided Calzaghe. Perfect solution for a loss of Hopkins is “oh Hop was to old” and what happened is the exact same thing. This si totally on Hopkins. Even if Hop was years younger it wont matter Calzaghe is a better fighter and will always be.

Posted March 13, 2013 3:58 pm

SREDMOND

Calzaghe was a solid, tough HOF level fighter but he took too long to make his mark and relative obscurity is his reality outside of his hometown… Discussing him in conjunction with Hops gives his fans an excuse to speak his name but that S/D against a 43 year old Bernard did not move the needle for Calzaghe the way beating and undefeated Kessler did.. Joe is an also ran in the annals of boxing history…

I thought Calzaghe definately won the fight, but I have absolutely no idea why people keep bringing it up in articles about Hopkins. It’s like the old white guys who always bring up Rocky Marciano. Hopkins will be remembered long after JC is forgotten by everyone outside of Wales.

Posted March 13, 2013 2:19 pm

stupid loser

Swedish Boxing Fan, no question B-Hop has built a true legacy, where Calzaghe will only be known as a good fighter. But I disagree that B-Hop won that fight. It was close and JC did not destroy B-Hop, but I still feel JC slapped the game out of B-Hop to win. If fact I think that was a bad night for B-Hop in many ways. But again even if we do not agree on that fight, it does not change the legacy B-Hop has built, and wait, he is still schooling prospects at 48, continuing to build on it.

Here goes Swedish Boxing fan on his pro Hopkins rampage. we all know how much you idolized Hopkins who is a cheater in the ring who is a crybaby in the ring. Hopkins vs Cloud showed how bad of a fighter Cloud id. Instaed of you saying Calzaghe who, who beat Hopkins how about Cloud who. Cloud never was good and niether is hopkins who is touting how great he is because at 48 he beat a nobody like Cloud. The legacy is a Hopkins crapper

Joe Calzaghe who? Seriusly Calzaghe “was” a great fighter and good champion but he will never be mentioned higher then Bernard Hopkins and that is true and final. Besides, Calzaghe lost to Bernard Hopkins, yeah he got a gift decision and Hopkins got robbed and even Joe was sure he had lost and his father and trainer had screamed to his son for 3 rounds that Joe needed a KO to win becouse he also klnew Hopkins was on for winning the fight. Famous trainer Freddie Roach, super middleweight world champion Carl Froch and former 2-time world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was there and they all three had Hopkins as the winner. ESPN, Yahoo Sports and Associated Press had Bernard Hopkins as the winner by 114-113. I had the scores 115-113 for Hopkins. I mean CValzaqghe came on late in that fight and the first rounds Calzaghe was punished and his face was busted up. No one cares about Joe Calzaghe becouse he retired while Hopkins regained the world title 2-times after that. Calzaghe refused a rematch and that says it all despite very lucrative offers, Hopkins messed him up like he did to Felix Trinidad, Kelly Pavlik, Jermain Taylor and Winky Wright. Hopkins is 48 years old and stil he schoolded a 17 year younger, stronger and harder hitter in undefeated world light heavyweight champion Tavoris “Thunder” Cloud. Joe Calzaghe would have been knocked out if he tried that at age 48.

Exiled Yank whilst I would disagree that B-Hop and JC have a style that is remotely similar I totally agree with your post. JC was always an aggresive volume puncher with excellent skills and could box if required whereas B-Hop is the classic punch picker not wasting a punch but you are spot on when you say they are both legends whos legendary careers were mainly because of one thing, adaptablility! Whilst I do not particularly like B-Hops style I admire it and have found this the case the more I watch him, B-Hop and JC would have been successful in any area vs any style which is a testament to their quality so even if you like me are not a fan give credit to B-Hop who is truley an ATG!.

JC flogged him… why fight were you watching? It was a hell of a fight with both men landing good shots and making non-stop adjustments. JC deserved the win, no doubt, but BH is the smartest fighter JC has ever faced, and JC is the smartest BH has faced. But take a moment and reflect on their careers. Both are legends, both have styles that are constantly disrespected, both are ring geniuses – making adjustments on the fly and forcing opponents to fight their fight, and both get accused of being slappers. They have more in common than most people want to believe. I find it hard to believe how people can hate BH and turn around and like fighters like JC or FM Jr, or Ward. They all have similar qualities and styles.

There are no comments because Hopkins is boring and he will never be the best. Calzaghe flogged him. So with every Hopkins win after that shellacking makes Calzaghe legacy grow and grow.

The former long time undisputed middleweight champion of the world and now 3-time world light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins is the champ and the best fighter in the world. 48 years old and new recognised world champion! Thats amazing.
