19.08.07 - By Tony Nobbs: Chris John retained his WBA featherweight title by stopping number six contender Zaiki Takemoto in Kobe, Japan on Sunday night. The end came after the ninth round when the challenger's corner called it off. John upped his record to 40-0-1, 21 KO's, while Takemoto drops to 21-7-1, 12 KO's.
John scored knockdowns in rounds six and eight and was completely dominant in the ninth. The champion was ahead by 8, 9 and 11 points at the conclusion. No nonsense John, a super star in Indonesia, wants to fight in the US as he looks to expand his popularity and establish himself at the Pound For Pound top by facing the best the 126 and 130 pound weight classes have to offer. He holds a win over Juan Manuel Marquez, rated number 3 P4P by Ring Magazine. continue l
