Interview: Ashira Oure

Ike Enwereuzor

26.04 - Unbeaten WBA International middleweight champion Evans Ashira Oure who had his first fight for the year. He improved his professional record to (21-0) last friday March 19, 2002 in Denmark against Francisco Mora who dropped to(34-5) 23KO's by unianimous deceision. Here's what the WBA International middleweight champion had to say....

Why haven't you fought since June 2001 untill March 19, 2002?
I had some managerial problem.

Describe your fight with Francisco Mora?
He had 38 wins, 4 loses and 23knockouts. he was South American and Argentinan Champion. It was a tough fight but I beat fearly. I had him in trouble so it was good for me to come back. This shows that I belong in the middleweight top ten list. I want to show that I belong at the class. I want a fight with William Joppy, Keith Holms, Felix Trinidad, Bernard Hopkins and all top ten list who wish to fight for my title are welcome. They can't continue to duck me.

What's next for you?
I want to fight the best guys in the middleweight class. A fight with Joppy will be perfect. I think I'll give him promblems. I hope to fight next in USA maybe May or June if all goes will.

What's your your impression of Bernnard Hopkins?
He's a great fighter with a lot of experience and determined. I like his style, he's tough and I love to fight tough fighters to prove myself and I know fans will enjoy and get their worth. It will be a fight between two tough guys. He's hungry and I'm too so it will be a war. I wish to be given the opportunity to prove myself.

Your thought of Felix Trinidad?
Good fighter too but Hopkins took him to school. Hopkins was more determined than Tito.

What did you think of Harry Simmon-Armand Krajnc last fight?
I thought it was a good fight. Harry was more clever and fast than Armand. He was scoring cleaner shots. If they bring the belt on I'll fight Harry Simmon.

What do you know about Robert Wangila?
He's from my Country, Kenya. He was a senior and I was a junior while he was boxing. I adored his styles. I have saw him as amateur and pro, we was a kid but we both boxed in the same Boxing gym called Kenya Sports Authority Boxing Club. Wangila was very tough and determined which brought him a Gold Medal in Olympics. He was one of the toughest guys around then. Too bad he died, I plan to achieve what he shouldn't for my Country.

Your thoughts of David Kamau?
Good boxer also. David Kamau boxed with my elder brother Lemmy Katibi He missed his chance to beat Oscar De La Hoya. I hope Oscar would move up after his fight with Vargas. Vargas think he's tough? I'll like to taste him at 160 too.

Did you learn anything from Kamau or Wangila?
I learn about Wangila self determination and admired his hard work.I like his style and punching power so he brings the war to you.

Your favorite fighter today?
My favorites are Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather, and Roy Jones jr.

What do you think of a Jones-Hopkins II?
I think it will be a tough fight for both guys. The more hungry man will win.
