The fight was televised on Fight Night by NBC Sports Network, and was Mansour’s national TV debut. Mansour, Wilmington, DE, was the harder puncher and eventually wore down his six-foot, seven-inch opponent from Pensacola. “It came down to who wanted it more,” Mansour said after the fight. “And there is no one with more desire than me. He was tough and we both wanted the same thing, but I’m going to keep coming until I get him out of there. That’s what I did.”

After Mansour dropped Price in the seventh and battered him until the bell ended the round, referee Earl Brown stopped the fight before the next round began. The result was a TKO at 3:00 of round seven.

Thabiso Mchunu signs with Main Events

745TOTOWA, NJ – Main Events announced today that they have signed up-and-coming cruiserweight sensation Thabiso Mchunu, 14-1, 10 KOs, to an exclusive promotional contract. The southpaw from South Africa made his American debut on August 3rd with a surprise 10-round unanimous decision over Eddie Chambers, 36-4, 18 KOs, at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT, in a bout that was nationally televised by NBC Sports Network. Mchunu’s performance in the fight served as a terrific introduction and made it clear that his impressive record and collection of African titles were no fluke.

Mchunu turned professional in 2007, and started winning regional titles almost immediately. He earned the vacant South African cruiserweight title in just his fourth bout, with a 9th round stoppage of Patrick Madzinga. Two fights later, he won the vacant WBA Pan African cruiserweight crown with a 32-second KO of Marciano Commey. Then in 2012, Mchunu knocked out Danie Venter in round five to take the vacant African Boxing Union cruiserweight title.

Eddie Chambers Statement

chambers343This is an open letter to the fans who support me as well to those who don’t.

First off, I want to congratulate my opponent Thabiso Mchunu of South Africa for his victory against me. I do not want to in any form or fashion diminish that win by making excuses about my performance in the ring. I did my best that I could to make the fight. To win the fight. Losing this decision woke up my spirit to compete again and I will continue to pursue my career as a Cruiserweight.

I felt fine throughout the bout. The weight loss was not a factor in my performance. I did not expect Mchunu to fight such a defensive, awkward fight. I was trying to follow instructions from my trainer, James Ali Bashir. It was very difficult to do as I am a counter puncher as well who was forced into being the aggressor. I felt that if I did not doing something to make the fight, there would have been no action during the fight. I am not that kinda guy who is going to lay around crying over spilled milk.
