Undefeated WBO 140lb champ Terence Crawford (27-0, 19 KOs) did what everyone thought he would do tonight in smacking around little lightweight Dierry Jean (29-2, 20 KOs) for nine rounds until the non-competitive sparring match was halted in the 10th round by referee Tony Weeks at the Century Link Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Unfortunately, Terrence Crawford’s 2015 is not going the way Top Rank wanted it to and by year’s end it will be considered somewhat of a loss. Sure, Crawford’s bank account gets bigger and there’s nothing wrong with that but his 2014 fighter of the year momentum has all but faded. In the spring, Bob Arum spoke of names such as Lucas Matthysse and Manny Pacquiao as possible opponents in Crawford’s near future.
The telecast kicks off with the exclusive replay of the Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux middleweight unification fight plus the flyweight showdown Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez vs. Brian Viloria. Both fights took place Oct. 17 at Madison Square Garden.

The maiden defence of the title Crawford won against Thomas Dulorme last time out in April is expected to be a relatively routine piece of business for the man voted 2014’s ‘Fighter of the Year,’ and talk has already begun about him moving up in weight once again, this time to 147 lbs.

Peterson (32-2-1, 16 KOs), the reigning IBF Jr. Welterweight Champ, looked like a starved beast ready to attack as he stalked Jean (25-1, 17 KOs) from the second round on. The DC native landed thudding shots to the body, head turning left hooks, and stinging right hands en route to a unanimous decision victory in Showtime Championship Boxing’s main event (official scores were: 118-111, 116-112, and 115-113).
Although Peterson bested Jean in most of their exchanges and was the clear aggressor, Jean didn’t back down or go away easily. Indeed, Jean landed a good number of power shots of his own, and showed a sturdy chin. It was apparent, however, that Jean is not among the elite at 140 pounds.

In the co-main event, 23-year-old top junior middleweight prospect Jermell Charlo remained undefeated in a unanimous decision victory over gutsy veteran Gabriel Rosado. The telecast will replay Sunday, Jan. 26 at 9 a.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME and Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME EXTREME.
IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (32-2-1, 16 KO’s) put on a body punching clinic on Saturday night in giving Dierry Jean (25-1, 17 KO’s) a beating in winning a 12 round unanimous decision at the DC Armory, Washington, District of Columbia, USA. Jean proved to be a very poor fighter, and not nearly powerful or skilled enough to give Peterson any kind of fight.
Jean was taking vicious body shots the entire fight, and after the first few rounds, he wore down and was pretty much just a punching bag for Peterson to pound on for 12 rounds. Jean would land an occasional home run punch every now and then, but it was very rare for him to land anything. Jean mostly looked like a wild fighter with little skills or technique.

Lamont Peterson (31-2-1, 16 KOs), who celebrates his 30th birthday today, weighed in at 139.5 lbs which was under the contracted 140-pound limit. Dierry Jean (25-0, 17 KOs) also made weight tipping the scales at 139 lbs.
Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (22-0, 11 KOs) and “King” Gabriel Rosado (21-7, 13 KOs, 1 NC) made the Jr. Middleweight 154-pound limit without incidence. Charlo weighed in at 153 lbs, while Rosado weighed 154 lbs.

Top Rank and Company and Golden Boy now in exclusive cahoots with Showtime who is broadcasting their event from the nation’s capital city Washington D.C.
Showtime who may not lead HBO in subscribers had clearly been the better network pound for pound the last 2 years.
The two fights that top the bill are very legit with the main event between Lamont Peterson and Dierry Jean basically a 50-50 type fight on paper. Peterson comes in a slight favor according to the betting websites yet more and more fans and scribes are leaning towards the challenger Dierry Jean.
