IBF welterweight ruler Errol Spence Junior will make the first defence of his title against tough and experienced contender, former 140 pound titlist Lamont Peterson, so reports RingTV.com – the fight set for January 13 at Barclays Centre in New York, the fight to go out on Showtime.

Unbeaten southpaw Spence, 22-0(19) snatched the belt from Kell Brook in Sheffield back in May, stopping the defending champ in the eleventh-round of a good fight. Now, after what seems like quite a stretch of time, the Texan finally has his first title challenger within reach. Spence wants the big fights but first comes the capable Peterson, 35-3-1(17).

Amir Khan wants to fight just about any welterweight aside from Kell Brook. Khan has repeatedly called for a return bout with Danny Garcia, he recently topped a fan poll where Manny Pacquiao asked his fans to pick his next opponent, and now Khan is targeting a revenge fight with the man who scored a contentious decision win over him in the most controversial fight of his career: Lamont Peterson.

Last night Peterson won the WBA “world” welterweight belt with a wide points win over David Avanesyan and Khan immediately called him out.

Former two-time world champion Lamont Peterson hosted a media workout in his hometown of Washington, D.C. as he prepares to take on WBA Welterweight Champion David Avanesyan in a 12-round matchup that serves as the co-main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING Saturday, February 18 from the Cintas Center at Xavier University in Cincinnati.

Televised coverage on SHOWTIME begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT with unbeaten light heavyweight contender Marcus Browne meeting hard-hitting former title challenger Thomas Williams Jr. in a 10-round showdown. Now it could be Lamont Peterson for Miguel Cotto

Future Hall of Famer Miguel Cotto may still box before the end of 2016. The Puerto Rican great, inactive since his engrossing and competitive 12-round loss to the bigger and younger Canelo Alvarez, has had a number of potential opponents mentioned for this year – from James Kirkland to Yuriorkis Gamboa (talk which proved to be just that, talk). But now, according to a news piece on RingTV.com, Cotto could face Lamont Peterson on December 3rd.

A “source” told The Bible of Boxing that although no deal has yet been reached for a Cotto-Peterson clash, the talks are “far along,” and how things “looked good.|” The fight, if it does happen, will go ahead at The Barclays Centre in New York. Ring reports how it is not yet clear whether this would-be fight would go out on HBO pay-per-view, or just reguar HBO. In the interest of the fans, Cotto-Peterson, a good if far from great match-up, should not be pay-per-view.

Peterson and Diaz Slug Away; Colon and Williams Put on Sloppy Scrap

Once again, Premier Boxing Champions brought the fight to network TV as Lamont Peterson fought Felix Diaz at the EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia.

The main event was a slugfest as both fighters traded solid shots throughout the fight. Diaz seemed to be getting the better of many of the exchanges, especially in round seven when it seemed he was able to land upper cuts and at will, and even taunted Peterson by bouncing in the ring to call out his opponent’s dropping activity.
