My first reaction when hearing about the matchup between Ricky Burns and Anthony Crolla brought a smile to my face as I nodded in approval. The fight just made so much sense for both men at this stage of their careers and of course the venue selection was perfect. A world championship belt isn’t on the line but it doesn’t matter and that’s the beauty of it all. What matters is the next step for these guys and what better motivation then money and pride.

Ricky Burns (41-6-1, 14 KOs) isn’t even considering the chance that he will lose this Saturday night to former WBA lightweight champion Anthony Crolla (31-6-3, 13 KOs) in their 12 round scheduled fight at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.
Burns sees himself as above the 30-year-old Crolla in the talent department, so he doesn’t foresee any problems with getting the victory on Saturday.

Now 22-1(11) the 5’11” Indongo could go on to become the main man at 140. With his awkward style (Burns, “devastated” by last night’s loss, just could not get to grips with Indongo, saying after the fight that he had no idea how awkward he would be), his long arms, his speed and his good boxing brain, the man known as “Blue Machine” just might give the likes of Terence Crawford and Adrien Broner all the trouble they can handle.

Ricky Burns (41-6-1, 14 KOs) lost his WBA light welterweight title tonight to IBF champion Julius Indongo (22-1, 15 KOs) in a 12 round unanimous decision defeat at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. The fight was about as one-sided as you’ll ever see without it stopped. However, two of the scores by the judges seemed to be in fantasy land in giving Burns rounds that he clearly didn’t win. The scores were 120-108, 118-110 and 116-112. The score of those three that made sense was the 120-108 score.

It’s looking as though Ricky Burns and Adrien Broner will finally meet – in a fight that has been talked about for a few years – next February. Burns, the WBA 140-pound champ, is looking at making big money in his first title defence and the Scottish warrior’s manager Alex Morrison told STV that the Broner fight is “99 percent certain, in Las Vegas.”
Burns, 41-5-1(14) had a war with Keryl Relikh earlier this month, with Broner watching the battle won by the Scot, and soon Broner will get a chance to regain the belt Burns now holds. But first, “The Problem” wants to have a fight in December; itching to fight as he is after having spent time in jail and having been largely inactive this year.

Ricky Burns came through his first WBA 140-pound title defence last night in his Glasgow fortress, but the 12 round unanimous decision he picked up against a fierce and determined Kiryl Relikh raised plenty of eyebrows. The fight was a war and it was a shock when, after the 12 gruelling rounds were over, the final scores of the three judges were so wide in favour of Burns.
116-112 (twice) was bad enough, but the 118-110 tally handed in by the third judge was abysmal, and insulting to the magnificent effort put in by Relikh. Ideally, in a fair world, Relikh, now a far bigger name than he was prior to last night’s defeat, the first of his career, would be granted a rematch. It doesn’t look like happening, however, as Burns – a one or two point winner in the opinion of many observers last night, with a good number having Relikh the winner by a similar margin; with others feeling a draw would have been the fairest result – is looking at a big Las Vegas fight with Adrien Broner next.
