Former World Champ Forbes In Action Again June 13

29.04 - Former International Boxing Federation junior lightweight champion Steve Forbes, who's promoted by Cedric Kushner Promotions, returns to action in a 10-round bout Friday, June 13, at the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, Ore.

"I'm looking forward to keeping busy," said Forbes, who's coming off a convincing 10-round unanimous decision over Silverio Ortiz April 26 in Las Vegas.

The 26-year-old Forbes, currently the IBF's No. 1-ranked 130-pounder, has a record of 23-1 with six knockouts. He was the IBF junior lightweight champion during 2000 through last year.

Forbes won the title Dec. 3, 2000, in Miami, Fla., when he stopped John Brown in the eighth round to capture the vacant title. Forbes didn't lose his IBF junior lightweight championship in the ring, but on the scale.

He failed to make weight prior to his defense against David Santos Aug. 8, 2002, and had to relinquish the title. But Forbes fought Santos anyway, and won a 12-round decision.

The bout during June in Oregon will be Forbes' third this year. On Jan. 3, in Norman, Okla., Forbes halted Ronnie Longakit in the fifth round.

An opponent for Forbes in his June fight will be determined.
