FORUM BOXING LOOKS FORWARD TO 2003
21.12 - As the year comes to a close Forum Boxing and its staff are working hard to pull together some great and entertaining fights for the fans in 2003.
Most experts would say due to Forum Boxing’s existence in Southern California for over 18 years boxing made stayed alive and made a terrific comeback. Doing twenty-four shows and approximately eight title fights a year, Forum Boxing was instrumental in giving many fighters the opportunity to earn the money and notoriety needed to be successful in the United States. The majority of them were Mexican National and Latin American boxers.
Marco Antonio Barrera, now known as the “King of Featherweights” has spent his entire professional career with Forum Boxing. In recent years he has been a participant in some of the biggest fights in boxing. “I have had the same manager, Ricardo Maldonado and the same promoter, Forum Boxing since the beginning of my career,” said Barrera. “These people have supported me through the best and worst of times and that is important to me as a fighter.”
“This past year has been a great year for me,” conveyed Barrera. “I am pleased with the direction my career is going in. I am a warrior that likes to stay active. I am hoping to come back and fight several good opponents next year. I am waiting for my manager, Ricardo Maldonado and Forum Boxing to decide. Whatever they come up with I will be ready.”
Some of the fighters Forum Boxing has promoted in the past are Humberto “Chiquita” Gonzalez, Juan Manuel Marquez, Genero Hernndez, Jorge Paez, Mark “Too Sharp” Johnson, Manuel Madina, and Agapito Sanchez.
In 2003 Forum Boxing is expecting big things from WBO Flyweight Champion Fernando Montiel, WBO Bantamweight Champion Cruz Carbajal and WBO Latin American Lightweight Champion “Brazilian Knockout Artist” Kelson Pinto.
Spearheaded by President, John Jackson, Forum Boxing has opened an office in Las Vegas, Nevada and plans to continue its legacy and contribution in the Las Vegas and California marketplace. In the last month there were three great cards in Las Vegas. Barrera-Tapia drew 7,700 fans, Morales-Ayala drew approximately 6,242 and Mayweather-Castillo drew approximately 5,522. Together these bouts grossed over $3 million in revenue. This is an indication contrary to some of the network opinion’s, boxing is still alive and well.
“Forum Boxing will definitely continue to bring competitive fights to the fans,” said President, John Jackson. “Our V.P. of Boxing Operations, Tony Curtis and our staff are working on some exciting things for the coming year. We are currently negotiating an early or late Spring HBO date for Barrera. We are also having talks with a television entity that is interested in doing a boxing series which will primarily feature Forum Boxing fighters. It should be a busy year for us at Forum Boxing."
