Tommy "The Duke" Morrison To Attend 2003 Hall Of Fame Weekend

03.05 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced today former WBO heavyweight champion Tommy "The Duke" Morrison will make his first trip to Canastota for the 2003 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend scheduled for June 5-8th.

"Tommy Morrison was one of the most exciting heavyweight fighters of the 1990s," said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. "His fans will really enjoy seeing him."

A relative of John Wayne, "The Duke" turned pro in 1988 and quickly built a reputation as an exciting fighter with knockout power. During his career, Morrison scored wins over James "Quick" Tillis, Pinklon Thomas, Joe Hipp, Carl "The Truth" Williams, Razor Ruddock and George Foreman, whom he decisioned for the WBO heavyweight title in 1993. Morrison also found success outside of the ring when he starred opposite Sylvester Stallone in the motion picture "Rocky V." Morrison's career record stands at 46-3-1 (40KOs).

The Hall of Fame Weekend will feature over 20 exciting events. Living inductees to be honored include welterweight king Curtis Cokes, 2-time heavyweight champion George Foreman, junior welterweight champion Nicolino Locche, 3-division champion Mike McCallum, journalist Jack Fiske and author/screenwriter Budd Schulberg. Posthumous inductees will also be honored.

Over 50 boxing stars, including Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Emile Griffith, Ken Buchanan, Earnie Shavers, George Chuvalo, Angelo Dundee, Aaron Pryor, Alexis Arguello, Carmen Basilio, Gene Fullmer, Tony DeMarco, Marlon Starling, James "Buster" Douglas, and Frank Bruno are scheduled to participate in weekend festivities.
