Team Mosley Request Sanctions Against Top Rank, Oscar De La Hoya

16.09 – The team representing newly-crowned world super welterweight champion SUGAR SHANE MOSLEY has filed an official request with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) asking "...that the Commission immediately commence disciplinary proceedings against Top Rank, Inc., Golden Boy Promotions, Inc. and Oscar De La Hoya."

The request for disciplinary proceedings is a result of the atrocious post-fight conduct of Bob Arum, president of Top Rank, Inc. and De la Hoya, following Mosley's unanimous decision victory over De La Hoya last Saturday night.

"There is no doubt that Sugar Shane and Oscar fought a good, close fight," said Gary Shaw, Mosley's promoter. "But let's not lose sight of the fact that Sugar Shane won by unanimous decision and the vast majority of the ringside media scored the fight for Sugar Shane too. I will not allow Sugar Shane's accomplishment on Saturday night to be overshadowed by the vicious and malicious poison emanating from Arum and De La Hoya. This goes beyond bad sportsmanship. Way beyond."

In the official request submitted to Luther Mack, chairman of the NSAC, Mosley's attorney, Judd Burstein, stated: "The suggestion that Mr. Mosley's victory was the result of a ‘fix' is outrageous and dishonest."

Burstein's letter also included the following: "This irresponsible attack on the integrity of the Commission, as well as the legitimacy of my client's hard-fought victory, must not be countenanced. NAC 467.885(5) authorizes the Commission to suspend or otherwise discipline a licensed person who has ‘[c]onducted himself at any time or place in a manner which is deemed by the Commission to reflect discredit on unarmed combat.' Plainly the conduct of Messrs. Arum and De La Hoya meets this description, and we respectfully submit that the Commission must not sit by and allow two sore losers to impugn both the integrity of the Commission, the judges and, most importantly to me, the well-earned victory by Shane Mosley. "
