Ashira Ready for War in Washington!

29.12 - Risum Boxing: To some fighters recognition and success comes easy. But most boxers have to work hard, and struggle for the good things that might eventually come their way. Middleweight contender Evans Ashira (21-0, with 11 Kayos) is one of those hard-working boxers, who never really has gotten the credit he deserves. Not yet, anyway!

As a former Kenyan, African and Commonwealth amateur champion, Ashira turned professional in Denmark in 1998. In his eighth payd fight, he totally outclassed former world champion Jorge Vaca, and in his ninth pro bout he became IBF Intercontinental champion at light middleweight, but after that; nothing really happened that would give his career a further boost.

Ashira became unhappy with the way his career was being managed, and after two significant wins over Fredrik Alvarez and Francisco Mora, he signed a three year deal with Don King in August of 2002. Now he is set to make his USA debut on January 4th in Washington DC against difficult spoiler Eric Mitchell (14-3-1, with 6 Kayos) from Philadelphia, PA.

Mitchell is pretty much an unknown figure in the big soup of American tough guys in the middleweight division, and Ashira admits that he doesnt know anything about his coming opponent: "I just learned this Friday that I will be fighting him, and besides his record, I dont know anything about him. But I hear that he is a spoiler, and that he like to use rough and dirty tactics. And the fact that he knocked out Ross Thompson in his last fight says something about his quality, so I am sure that I will be getting a tough fight" says the WBA # 9, WBO # 10, WBC # 11 contender.

"I am pumped up for this fight no matter who is in the opposite corner, and when push comes to shove, I am ready for war on Saturday. It is too bad that my homeboys in Kenya and Denmark wont be able to watch the fight on TV, but hopefully they will be able to when I fight for the world title sometime in the future. Of course, I realise I have to beat Mitchell first, and I dont underestimate him at all"

Ashira will be defending his WBA International title against Mitchell, and he realises that this is just the first step towards the world wide recognition he feels he was denied a chance of recieving in the safe but unambitious sorroundings of Denmark. Now, "The African Warrior" is ready for war in Washington. He is ready to conquer America...
