Sturm and Trabant fighting for world titles on Saturday

10.09 – Felix Sturm and Michel Trabant, two undefeated German contenders of the Universum Box-Promotion stable, will fight for world titles on Saturday in an explosive double header at Estrel Convention Center in Berlin.

Sturm, 18-0 (9), will challenge reigning WBO middleweight champion Hector Velaczo, 29-2-1 (14), from Argentina whereas Trabant, 38-0 (18), will take on American Jose Antonio Rivera in a contest for the vacant WBA weltweight title.

The 24-year-old Sturm jumped in on very short notice for his countryman and stable mate Bert Schenk, 33-1 (21), who suffered a severe injury to his biceps in training last weekend. After consulting his doctor the highly disappointed Schenk who observers felt was in the shape of his life had to call off.

For Sturm, however, it was like Christmas and Birthday combined. “It’s the greatest thing for me to fight for the world title so early in my career”, the highly delighted Sturm said.

Felix Sturm is ranked WBO #4 and IBF #13. Fightnews.com ranks Sturm as the 15th best middleweight in the world. He is holding the IBF world title of the juniors, fighters at age 24 or younger. In the amateurs he became European champion in 2000.

In second world title fight 25-year-old Michel Trabant from Berlin and American Jose Antonio Rivera, 36-3-1 (24), clash for the vacant welterweight crown of the World Boxing Association.

On the undercard among others: German super middleweight contender Mario Veit, 40-1 (22).

The whole event will be broadcasted live on Boxing.de via webcam
