Cuban Olympic gold medallist Odlanier Solis won his first professional title by beating 7-foot-1-giant Julius Long for the WBC Latino Championship. It was hard work for Solis who suffered a cut on the right eyebrow in the 1st but clearly outscored his opponent. The judges scored the 8 rounds 80-72, 80-71, 80-71 in favour of Solis.
Manager Ahmet Öner: “You must not forget that Solis had less than two weeks to prepare for this opponent. All his sparring partners were about 1 foot smaller than Long to prepare him for Frans Botha. Nonetheless he showed a good fight. Those fights help him a lot on his way to the top.” |
