Video - Weigh-In: Klitschko 247 - Peter 253,5
-- click here to view open workout and press conference photo gallery -- Weigh-In photos © eastsideboxing.com - There is no doubt It will be a colorful and spectacular show full of dynamite, at the 02 World Arena of Berlin, when the Nigerian “Nightmare”, Samuel Peter, and his Ukrainian rival, Vitali Klitschko, face each other, with the WBC Heavyweight world championship on the line; such title has been held by Peter since he conquered it on March 8th, 2008, in Cancun, Mexico, when he defeated Oleg Maskaev by technical knockout in 6 rounds.
Those who are thrill seekers will have a magnificent opportunity of finding it, witnessing everything that these two giants do. Some will watch them live, whereas others, the vast majority, will do it through the TV broadcast in different parts of the planet, Mexico and the U.S.A. among them.
Peter is young and hungry for money as much as for glory, and that is something that can be added in favor of the African boxer, who got started in professional boxing in 2001, and so far, has shaped a record of 30 wins; 23 of them by knockout, and just one loss, which curiously happened against Vitali´s younger brother, Vladimir Klitschko, who defeated him by decision..
Klitschko was the last universally recognized Heavyweight. Nobody has forgotten his battles against Lennox Lewis, Corrie Sanders, and others; bouts in which he showed why he is, in numbers, the greatest puncher of all times in the Heavyweight division, having 97% of his wins by the always convincing and spectacular KO.
Even though he has not fought for almost four years, there is no way Klitschko will be an easy opponent for the world champion.
The fight is one of the most appealing and interesting shows that can be currently presented in any ring of the world, in any division, and it can nearly be assured that the outcome the fight will come through the way in which these two colossuses are used to winning, a knockout.
Let´s get ready to witness a show that will surely leave a deep mark among the millions of boxing fans there are in the world.

VITALI KLITSCHKO: "I have already fought for a title twice and both times I won. This is the third time and I will be the winner again.
"On October 11, we will know who will be the true WBC Heavyweight-Champion. I'm in great condition and have had a perfect preparation phase."
SAMUEL PETER: "Vitali Klitschko is trying to take my title belt from me. He tried to take it out of my hands at the press conference, but I snatched it from him. It is mine!
"He is a phony who is messing with my career and my life. On Saturday, he will be out of everyone's life for good. I'm very well prepared. It will be a great fight"
FRITZ SDUNEK - Vitali Klitschko's Trainer - Vitali is very prepared. The camp was perfect. He needed four sparring partners during the camp in Austria. Vitali is a veteran fighter. He knows what to expect from his training camp since this is his third time preparing for a world title fight. Sam Peter should be called the rabbit, not because he is quick and fast, but because he throws so many rabbit punches.”

Vitali Klitschko vs Samuel Peter Oct. 11
"Time for the first giant to fall!" growled WBC heavyweight Champion Samuel Peter at the news that former champion Vitali Klitschko had signed to face him on October 11. "I've been waiting a long time for revenge on the first giant (Vitali's brother, IBF and WBO Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko) but now I get to knock them both out!."
While there are still two cities competing for the opportunity to host the Samuel Peter- Vitali Klitschko megafight (Abuja, Nigeria and Berlin, Germany), Peter says regardless of where it's held, his greatest hope is that Vitali actually shows up this time.
"He has already run from me many times, but now he has signed the contract. This time he must finally take his punishment like a man or get out of boxing forever."
Peter's manager, Ivaylo Gotzev of Elite Sports Management, claims that news of Vitali's willingness to finally face his fighter makes their revenge scenario even sweeter. "This is the first half of Operation Giant Killer because we're going to take out Wladimir's brother before we settle the score with him. Vitali has been standing in Samuel's way for a long time, but now we've got the opportunity to send both of boxing's giants home with a beating."
Gotzev says Vitali's on-again/off-again comeback hopes have been a giant bump in the road to their plans for avenging the close decision Peter lost to brother Wladimir that included Klitschko hitting the canvas three times in 2005, but if Peter vs. Klitschko comes off as scheduled, it will lead to an important series of fights for the heavyweight division and the sport of boxing.
"This is one of the only meaningful fights in boxing at the moment. And Vitali has been standing in the way of even bigger business with his brother. Hopefully he will show up this time, so that the heavyweight division can settle things the right way and crown one true champion."
Peter, who is set to begin training camp next week, says he has only one message for Vitali Klitschko: "Come and get the punishment you deserve so I can get your little brother next."

SAMUEL PETER
“I am very grateful to be here today. I want to clear up one thing. I am the true heavyweight champion.
Vitali, you never beat a champion. You say you are the champion, but you are not a champion. You can’t be the champion until you beat me, and you can’t.
“I have fought 31 fights and never ducked anyone. I fought with my eardrum broken and lost 25 pounds that night, but I still fought.
“I am making one promise today. I will knock Vitali out. Trust me. I will knock out Vitali, and then I will beat his brother (IBF/WBO Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko). There is no doubt about that.”

VITALI KLITSCHKO
“Thank you to everyone who put energy into making this fight happen.”
“I am pleased to say that I am back. I am happy to be back in the ring, happy to fight for my title. I gave away my title freely because of my knee injury.
“I feel sorry for Peter that I must fight him. Skeptical people say that I won’t win because I have been out of the ring for three years, but I did not lose the title. I am honored to fight for (WBC President) José Sulaimán, who gave me this chance.
“I have big respect for Mr. Lou Duva, but his fighters always say they will knock me out and it never happens. Mr. Duva is preparing Peter to knock me out, but this will never happen.
“I don’t underestimate Peter. He is a good puncher. I will give my best to be the winner, to take my title back, and to make history where two brothers will be champions at the same time. It’s a huge motivation for me.
“I promise the fight will not be easy and it won’t go to the scorecards. It will probably end between rounds four-six. I have a lot of presents ready for Peter for October 11.”
DINO DUVA (Peter’s promoter)
“This fight was a fight that a lot of people never thought would happen. When the WBC ordered Sam Peter to fight Vitali Klitschko, I was the most skeptical about Klitschko’s ability. But, a few weeks ago, I ran into Vitali at the Olympics in Beijing. I saw him walk toward me with a fire in his eye and he asked me if the fight was happening. When I told him yes it was, he promised me that he would show up as ready as ever. After seeing him and the fire in him, my doubts were put to rest.
“We are so happy to work with SHOWTIME. SHOWTIME is pound for pound the best network in boxing. We are proud to have this fight on SHOWTIME.”
LOU DUVA (Legendary trainer)
Peter reminds me of Rocky Marciano, and he will definitely knock out Vitali. You’re going to see a fight here, and I’ll tell you what, on October 11, you will see Peter knockout Klitschko.”
BERND BOENTE (Klitschko’s Manager)
“This will be a great fight between two great punchers. I doubt however that this fight goes 12 rounds.”
Vitali Klitschko-Samuel Peter - Who Wins?
by James Slater: With the long awaited clash between reigning WBC heavyweight champion Samuel Peter and "Champion Emeritus" Vitali Klitschko looking as though it will finally take place in Germany this coming October, it's time to take a look at the bout and see who will win. On paper a tough fight to pick - due largely to the inactivity Klitschko has undergone - this heavyweight rumble could go either way.
Both men can punch seriously hard, and as such there is a big chance a KO - very possibly a quite spectacular one - will bring about an ending to the bout. But in whose favour? Sure, the fight is not too far from a pick 'em in 2008 - but if it were not for "Dr. Iron Fist's" current age and the fact he has been both injury prone and about as active as a volcano recently, this would not be the case. Vitali is (or was) a far superior fighter to the hard-hitting, but otherwise limited, Sam Peter. Bigger, taller, and possessing a far better left jab than the one "The Nigerian Nightmare" has in his arsenal, the man who turns 37 later this month would have been a huge favourite to win were the bout taking place a few years ago.
But today, with only one fight under his belt in almost four years, Vitali has one big question mark next to him when it comes to what he has to offer the heavyweight division. Bound to be affected, at least somewhat, by ring-rust when he gets in there with the decade younger man, Klitschko may be vulnerable in the early rounds. If Peter jumps right on him before he has a chance to get into his groove, Vitali could well be in trouble. Peter is no master boxer, but he is powerful and very dangerous - especially in the first few rounds of a fight. There was a time when the 27-year-old also looked to have a solid chin.
In his fight with Vitali's younger brother, Wladimir, which he lost on points for his sole career loss, Peter took a thunderous left hook in the twelfth and final round. Peter didn't go anywhere, even though the big punch landed flush and wobbled him, and it seemed Sam had a great chin. This opinion was slightly altered in Peter's last-but-one fight, however. In winning the interim version of the WBC belt he now holds, Peter was decked three times by Jameel McCline. Going down this many times against the not too hard-punching McCline led some to believe the praise "The Nigerian nightmare's" chin was given was perhaps undeserved. Will Vitali Klitschko be able to send Peter to the floor the way "Big Time" did?
Perhaps so, and perhaps when he goes down after being hit by "Dr Iron Fist's," best shot Sam will be in no position to get back up. At his best, Vitali definitely beats Peter, but is Vitali still anywhere near his best? We simply do not know if the 37-year-old, who was last seen destroying a game Danny Williams, will be anywhere near the fine fighter he once was come October.
Barring a quick win by Peter - and as crazy as it may seem to some, this result is at least possible - I go for Klitschko to either stop Sam late or repeat his younger brother's points win. Minus the knockdowns Wladimir suffered, that is.
Vitali Klitschko-Sam Peter
New York, May 9—Dino Duva, president of Duva Boxing and promoter of World Boxing Council Heavyweight Champion Samuel Peter, announced today that an agreement has been reached with K2 Promotions for the “Nigerian Nightmare’ to defend his title against former champion Vitali Klitschko, thus avoiding a purse bid. The two sides reached accord at meetings in Mexico City yesterday, and the WBC world title clash will take place sometime this fall, with date, site and television to be deterimined in the near future..
“The deal was made at the 11th hour, and we are delighted,” said Duva. “Instead of going to the WBC offices for a purse bid and uncertain future, we instead were able to reach the agreement and announce it in front of the wonderful Mexican media and fans.
“We’re ecstatic,” added Duva. “It’s the best possible deal for all concerned – the fighters, promoters, and most importantly the fans.”
The WBC Heavyweight title tilt will be a co-promotion between Duva Boxing and K2 Promotions, with Duva serving as lead promoter.
“It was a long and complicated negotiation,” said Duva. “I want to sincerely thank all of the key parties – my partner Don King, Sam’s manager Ivaylo Gotzev, Vitali Klitschko, his advisor Shelly Finkel and promoter Tom Loeffler
"Last but not least, I must thank WBC President Jose Sulaiman, who, along with his son Mauricio, was determined to get all parties to the table and make a deal for this great fight,” wrapped up Duva. “Without their support and understanding, this never would have happened.
As part of the agreement, Peter is free to fight in an interim bout by July, which is being worked on feverishly, according to Duva.
