View Full Version : Ivan Calderon to move up in weight!!!!!!!!!!
Was just checkin boxrec and it seem he'll be vacating his WBO strawweight title after 11 succesful defences, to challenge for the WBO light flyweight title against hugo fidel Cazarez of mexico.
Havnt seen Cazarez fight but it looks like he can bang for a lil guy and has made a few defences.
Anybody know anymore about him???
Seems like a good match on paper, interesting to see how ivan handles the bigger punching champion, but i expect after sparring with the likes of mosley that he can handle it.
My prediction Calderon by UD :smoke

I like small guys but none of them want to stand out. They all claim to be the best but none of them come close to really dominating a division. Unify the belts and show us you are really the man. That way when you move up in weight we'll all be really interested as to what happens.

That is because there is too many small weight classes, it is ridiculous. So basically he is moving from 105 lbs to 108 lbs!! Christ , can he handle the larger fighters in the next weight class?
call me when he has reached 147.....
Noob.
Although i have no extended knowledge of the lower classes I do have an interest in World class talent and that is excactly what Ivan Calderon is.
I for one hope he is succesful and keeps on moving t up the divisions to challenge himself...

That is because there is no 108 lbs fighters in the UK, is there? I dont think the small weight classes below 122 lbs will ever be very popular. There might be an occational popular tv fighter as Darchinyan or Arce, but the classes it self will lag behind the rest of boxing. The small weight classes dont have as much appeal to Americans and Europeans , because there is almost no US or Euro fighters that fight in those classes to bring attention .
How many black Americans or Europeans do you think can make these small weight classes? The Avg European and American is about 5'10 180 , very very very few can.

This is true, though it often makes a difference for good and/or great fighters. It doesn't pull away from the fact that none of these guys are really conquering. South of 126 no one is bring real law and order to a division. Even the really good fighters like Marquez.

Claderon is in tought task not that Cazares is big boxer is that Cazares weight in at fight night is over 126lbs and Calderon is only 112 at best i think the streg on Cazares will be to much for little Calderon. but Calderon can win.

Calderon had a lot of problems with the last guy he fought Ronald Barrera because he was a big guy compared to Calderon, and Cazares is may more biguer than Calderon. and Calderon is getting past his best, i hope Calderon wins he had the boxing skill to outbox Cazares.

THis will be a great fight, and btw...Hugo is the real champion at 108. Hugo can pressure, and Calderon has been affected by pressure fighters before, like non-descript gerardo verde who calderon scraped by after being the pressure got on for a few rounds. with that being said....viva puerto rico!

Calderon by UD. Calderon is a joy to watch in the ring. Too bad he doesn't get the top 10 P4P respect he deserves.

I'd like to see him at 112 against Darchinyan. I think Calderon outboxes him.
Maybe with 20oz gloves on

How so? Darchinyan is another Naseem Hamed waiting to be exposed by a good boxer.
Vic Darchinyan
1993 placed 5th world junior amateur tourment and 5th again in 1997.
Competed in 1998 Goodwill Games came 3rd,Won the Eurepean Cup, World Cup came 3rd. Again won European in 1999.
I think he can box better than most think but i agree is style is pretty crazy to watch.

This is a very tough fight for Calderon. He is moving up in weight and taking on the Ring Champ at 108. Ivan has the skills, but Cazarez is relentless, sneaky fast, and he can take a big punch. I'd actually make him the favorite coming in. I'll be pulling for Ivan (who is from my hometown) but this will be a VERY difficult assignment.
If he pulls it off Ivan should be top 10 Ring p4p.
