Can anyone tell me what was unique about this bout???
Just on a side note, the thing that impressed me most about Driscoll was that he was so adept at feinting, and though his defensive skills were legendary his hand speed was brilliant too.

Well, it was not a competitive bout but it was a perfect fight for Jim, accurate punching ability, feints, hand speed, counterpunching.... before that fight Robson got beat in a title match with Joe Gans by the way.

what amazed me about it was there was no referee :scaredas: , Although i dont think Driscoll was unhittable, he wasnt on a par with Whittaker in the defence department

Definitely. But he was not an easy target either.
You do well talking about the ref, it was very very surprising to not see any ref.

Driscoll's reflexes look razor sharp there. You could see how he discourages Robson as the bout progresses from throwing punches with his ability to anticipate the punches before Robson even lets them go.
Seriously, when I look at fighters like Jim Driscoll, Benny Leonard, Tommy Loughran, Gene Tunney, Jack Delaney, I really don't think modern boxing has evolved THAT much. Those guys would kick ass in any era imo.

I heard the french commentator, seemed like the ref was there...but outside the ring.

Yep as i said previously, Driscoll' ability to feint has turned into a forgotten art unfortunately, he had Robson walking onto those fast rights all night
BTW Loughran is an extremely underrated fighter, looking forward to watching his bout against Braddock

He does a number on him. Try and get his bout with Walker as well. Good contest, with the bigger man trying to outbox the smaller, somewhat quicker little man. Not always easy to do for bigger boxers...
