After the fight with Morales, when Diaz was asked about his win he said something like:

"I told everybody. 5 pounds is a lot in boxing. People kept saying 5 pounds is nothing and I said it would be a big difference. Let me hit you with something that weights 5 pounds and you tell me if it is nothing."

Does it really makes that much a difference?

I think 5 lbs is a big deal for below welterweight.
When talking about 5 lbs. welter and above, it's not too big of a deal.
As you get closer and closer to featherweight it becomes more and more of an important matter.
Below feather, it's a really big deal.

I don't know. Five pounds is approximately 2 kilos. 2 kilos is almost nothing, and especially if you weigh 50.

For a newly born baby perhaps.

Diaz came into that fight weighing much more than Morales.

Morales' problem is that he is too shopworn to drain, then put on weight the next day and still be healthy

well id say so.....

compare the power from pac man to chico, or castillo then that power to hatton then that power to cotto....IMO you can see it greatly grow...

5 weighin pounds is a lot, as it turns in to 10-15-20 pounds come fight time. Its even more when you get older and sweating out the weight for the weighin gets harder and harder.

It can be the difference between being properly hydrated or being dehydrated. So yes, it is a MAJOR difference at 140 and below. It can mean a missed meal or a gallon less water. Five pounds can be as much as 1/20 or 1/30 of a fighters body mass.

Look at Wilfredo Gomez at 122. Then look at him at 126.
