Originally 7lbs over at 192 then 189.

It really pisses me off when guys miss by this much, a little I can understand, but 7 just isn't trying.

I like Filho but now Chael will probably never get the WEC belt unless they give it to him if he wins the catchweight fight or just give it to him outright, because the larger divisions in WEC are going away.

It is also now a 3 round fight instead of 5, so I guess they won't give Chael the title if he wins.

Damnit Filho.

That looks a bad miss out for him.

Filho was probably hoping Sonnen wouldn't take the catch weight fight. I think Filho knows Chael will beat him. He has been putting this fight off for as long as he could. I hope Chael destroys him.

I agree.

Didn't want to put his title on the line and didn't want to go five rounds. I hope Chael gets justice.

Ill be crossing my fingers for Sonnen. Filho has been acting like a coward.

I read that the title is still on the line - just not officially.

Wasn't there a time in boxing when in the circumstances of the champion coming in overweight - that he immediately lost the belt at the scales. I can't think of any examples so perhaps this is just my imagination.

Well he was in rehab, that drug addiction is a legit reason to not fight, I know for a fact neither one "fears" the other, its just not in their nature.

The rehab probably has something to do with his being overweight, but again, its incredibly unprofessional and pisses me off, and I like Filho very much.

The belt will be gone regardless, WEC is scrapping the divisions above 155, although the honor behind it is still important, but in my mind that is still there anyway.

Filho sucks, he just gets overrated because he beat up a bunch of crappy japanese fighters.

While it is true he has beaten many lower quality Japanese fighters (hey, thats who Pride told him to fight), he is not overrated.

He has beaten 3 good Japanese fighters in Yuki Kondo who is very good, R. Sakuri, Chonan, and 1 top Japanese fighter in Misaki, who won the Pride GP, and has a win over Dan Henderson.

On top of that Suloev is tough, Doerkson isn't bad, and Murilo Ninja Rua was VERY good at the time, and Filho dominated him.

Also obviously he beat Chael Sonnen (yes he did beat him, Sonnen verbally tapped) despite Sonnen fighting a very good fight, and looking very good as of late, especially his last fight, his last fight was very very good for him.

On top of that just the company he keeps; he used to train with BTT, a great team, and now trains with Gabriel Gonzaga at team link, and I believe also at Death House, with Anderson Silva (the reason he is in WEC instead of UFC),the Noguerias, and Machida. He has been recieving top training and sparring for years.

On the down side, he can be boring to some at times, and boring to most at times, because he is conservative on top. He is a simple fighter: get the takedown, pass the guard, ground and pound, take the armbar if it's there. Last fight he did not look good until the armbar, but he got the armbar.

He is not overrated. If he loses tonight, which is definitely possible, he is still not overrated.

The dude was coming out of drug rehab. He was terrible tonight, everything he did was terrible, but he does not suck, you know nothing about MMA if you think he sucks.

His career clearly shows he does not suck. You don't beat Sonnen, Misaki, a prime Ninja, and win 7 straight fights in pride, and go 16-0, and suck.

You are just not real bright.

Well he did not suck back then but if hes going to continue to fight like he is now then he does suck. He has nothing to offer a fight other then his guard and his mind and heart are clearly not in fighting which is sad because he is a very talented fighter. What was the point of him even accepting the fight ? 7 pounds overweight its not like he was ripped at the weigh in he must have had it in his head that Sonnen just wouldnt accept the fight.

Yeah because Misaki, and Rua are really good fighters, even though Rua lost to Radach and Misaki lost to Lytle, lol. Face it he dominated overrated Japanese talent. His wins in Japan mean nothing. He sucks.

First off dont bring that attitude to this forum take it to sherdog we dont accept that around here. Before you do that go look at my post on Filho and see for yourself if im a fan or not that come back and aplogize. What does it matter ? It matters because your noboddy yeah its great your have an opinion but what exactly have you accomplished to trash the guys who actually step in there and compete ? Im sure your the kind of guys I see all the time wearing Tapout and making excuses why they never joined a club to train or your the type of kid ive seen come in one day to a gym talk about what kind of a warrior you are then struggle like hell like all of us but not have the mental toughness to deal with it then never come back.

As I've stated before. Filho is a fucking douchebag. Every chance he got he laid on the ground like a fat piece of shit, trying to expel as little energy as his overweight ass needed so that he wouldn't tire and to hopefully catch Sonnen in a submission. Luckily, Sonnen isn't a fat, disrespectful, asshole and didn't fall into his "trap". If I were Sonnen I wouldn't have shown the dude any respact at all by hugging him after the fight, or even tapping gloves for that matter. Chael should be rewarded the title not because he dominated the fight, but simply because Filho is a disrespectful, drug using, lazy, shithead who gives the sport a bad name.

Why is anyone surprised? Filho is a massive middleweight. He`s been struggling with the weight for years. Lord knows how he ever made 185 and he`s only 5ft 8 or so.. Hormones anyone...

I wonder if its harder to cut weight with age? He might have been able to do it a few years ago but is having trouble now.

I agree it was scummy, but I don't think it was wanting Sonnen to cancel, it was just complete laziness and disrespect.

Actually, he's overrated and he's unfocused . . . but allegedly there's a reason for the latter.

Doesn't make a difference, the division is done with anyway.
