thats a good post. Hall of Fame yes, ATG????
Hard to argue with his record, but i think when it comes to greatness, its not what u see on paper, its more what u see with your eyes, and im not sure Joe would be regarded as All Time if a poll was taken by genuine boxing fans. Great yes, but ATG? not so sure.

I disagree. I think genuine boxing fans would more likely see him for his skill level and adaptability in the ring. Without question he's one of the greater boxers of this generation.

ATG is often a matter of opinion.
IMO Joe is not one.

Calzaghe is both HOF and ATG.
Look at his 2 most recent wins - absolute legends they are! :happy

And if Kesslers dominates 168lbs division over the next 5yrs, Joe's record could possibly look even better.
HOF ........... That's a no brainer
ATG ............ Only time will tell, very big possibilty.

Nail on the head mate , no one can tell if Calzaghe will be remembered as an ATG yet when you consider very few still active fighters achive such status . 10 years down the pipe it will be easier to gauge this and i think your right , he will be remembered as an ATG further down the line .

HOF for sure.

Some of these fighters did some solid legacy work before that time period but here is a couple I reckon.
Lewis
Roy
Sweet Pea
Chavez
Mayweather
Guys like Ricardo Lopez, De la Hoya, Hopkins, Evander and Pac maybe could be included...I would have to think more about them.
Off the top of my head thats probably who I would consider ATG, I think its important to have very high standards when using that term.
Like most have mentioned Joe's HOF status is pretty much sealed. As for an ATG tag, I personally dont think he will ever get there but of course it is still dependent on guys like Kessler, Lacy and to a degree Hopkins and what they go on to achieve over the next few years.
I have a feeling Hops and Lacy probably wont do much more but Kessler could become a borderline p4p fighter with the right wins.
Overall though Joe's resume is just to weak over his whole career.

I dont rate Mayweathers resume too highly but it is solid, everyone has the feeling he'll be back in the ring again so it will probably get better. I also would have trouble putting Hopkins in there. Mosley has a awesome resume but it could have been better if he turned a few losses into wins.
Actually James Toney would be close to being called an ATG. His resume is great

Yeah Toney is another one for consideration..Actually Mayweather's resume really wasnt sensational , just H2H he is was an excellent & quite dominant fighter and that pushes him up a bit.
Looking at all those names you can see why Joe has his work cut out for him to make it to that status. Well at least his former opponants do.

ATG is a whole other beast when compared to HOF.

first ballot is putting in a fighter into the hall of fame 5 years after his last fight.
and hall of fame has a special section for overseas boxers exempt from any americans who go in at the same time
hypothetically if this is calzaghe`s last fight and 2008 is the last year he boxes in 2013 who would you guess would go in the overseas ballot who retires this year along with calzaghe ?
off the top of my head
i cannot think of many great fighters whose last year of boxing is 2008 so calzaghe`s name will definatly go forward in 2013 .
off course he might fight on and my point will be moot.

agreed
He don't get any extra points for defeating that guy who was impersonating Roy Jones.
The real Roy Jones was abducted by his extra terrestrial relations after he defeated Ruiz. Since then the guy that replaced him has been smashed and embarrassed by Tarver, knocked senseless by Johnson and beat some B class fighters on his way to defeating poor old Tito.
Up steps Calzaghe and gets put on his arse first round. Lucky the reak\l Roy wasn't still on earth as he would have finished the job.
