If bautista beat's ponce impressively, would u rank him up there with marquez, vasquez and Caballero.

Yes I would, but I'm not so sure he will beat Ponce De Leon.

No he's not in their class.

I think De Leon will beat him anyways, but he still isnt in the same class as Rafa Marquez and Vasquez.

Not right now, but good news for him....He's only 20 yrs. old.

He has a very bright future ahead of him and could probably beat Izzy or Rafa in a few years when he's more polished and they're winding down.

But like I said, right now he is salsa verde.

Rafael Marquez has lost 4 fights and has been knocked out all 4 times. It is that Marquez has no defense at all, he fights totally reckless. Marquez is a great offensive fighter , that is one dimensional. I dont think he is a PFP boxer, like some people make him out to be. Marquez vs Vazquez was ; I hit you, you hit me, I hit you, you hit me , they didnt display alot of boxing skills to be honest.

Bautista has yet to step up. The De Leon fight should tell us alot.

Bautista was nearly sparked by his last opponent, whom is not a puncher. Take it easy.

De Leon will KO this kid.

Even if Bautista beats De Leon, he is not ready to fight a caliber of Vasquez or Marquez.

Amsterdam
08-06-2007, 06:59 PM
And who won that fight? The 19 year old thank you!

Yes and good for him for recovering after a KD and winning well, however, I am just being realistic on the kid's ability to take a shot. De Leon hits much harder and is a superior opponent to Bautista's last one, yet De Leon is 2 steps below Marquez and Vasquez, possibly 3 steps below.

Nobody on this forum, save for the ranked professionals that post here could have accomplished what Bautista did on the DLH PPV, but we also have to be realistic and that is all I am doing by implying that he's not taking Marquez or Vasquez's punches, much less De Leon's.

I agree about Marquez beiing a bit overrated. Some fools have this guy at #4 p4p. The guy has no D and a suspect chin, bad formula for being great

Marquez has fought at a high P4P level, jumping up in weight and sharing a win and a loss with Israel Vasquez, whom was the man in the division and he's got no D and a suspect chin?

Hell, I am not saying Marquez's chin is great, it's definitley just average, but to compare Bautista's chin, who nearly was KTFO by some average hitting fighter to the punishment that Marquez took to Vasquez is quite a comparison to say the least.:yep

Here is the difference -

Vasquez - Elite level murderous puncher at 122, also elite level fighter in terms of skill level for his style at 122.

Bautista's last opponent - Step up level fighter who was an average hitter.

:patsch

I am still skeptic on Boom Boom's skill as a boxer; hence, I feel De Leon will just overpower and overwhelm him with his size and brute strength.

I hope Bautista can recover from his 1st loss and build on that experience to be a good boxer.

Guys if you have money bet now with Bautista. Amsty just Pick DLeon, we knew his prediction sucks.

Seriously, This will be Bautista's biggest test. I'm not solid with Bautista, He needs to improve his defense. I still pick him though, By KO with the Right Hook with Ponce on the Attack. Ponce is just too hittable also.

IF Bautista & Gonzalez both win. Now that would be a match with the winner worthy of facing Marquez or Vazquez.

Marquez dont have a bad chin , he just has no defense . Marquez dont move his head, or use his feet for defense ,and he stands directly in front of his opponent, he is there to be hit!! Marquez is a great offensive fighter, that is one dimensional, his only defense is his offense. Niether Vazquez or Marquez could possibly miss a punch, I would of liked to see the punch stats.

No not yet, but he will get there. At 20 he is a great prospect, I dont think the other two guys were that good when they were 20.

bautista's chin won't hold up. he has been rocked and knocked down by lesser fighters.. i think bautista is still raw. give him 3 or 4 more years and he might just have a chance

You must be kidding, he's still new and you believe he has a chance against those guys?
I believe Ponce will KO him and if he doesn't then Marquez OR Vasquez would punish him brutally.

i really don't see what's so special about boomboom. vasquez and marquez gave us two fights that we'll remember for a long time and you think boomboom will be able to come up with a performance that is remotely close to that? he was knocked down by gerardo espinoza who is a journeyman at best. then he was almost tko'd in his last fight.

where do you based you assumptions? boomboom has potential but has never fought top quality oposition.

boomboom is young and if he wants to beat either marquez or vasquez, he must wait a few years and fight the two after their peak

Right now, I don't think anyone could touch Marquez or Vasquez in the 122 pound division. They're titans at that weight class. I could see them punching each other into a decline, but right now I can't see anyone except those two beating each other. Guess we'll have a clear picture of what's going on by Vasquez-Marquez III.

Oh ya, Bautista all the way. Fuck De Leon. He lost all allure to me after he ran in the 12th round from the tiny, tiny Penelosa. How do you run from him? Ponce had like 20 pounds on the guy.

Marquez didnt avoid one punch all night against Vazquez, his defense is not good. He fights totally reckless. It was a great fight, but forget defense in that fight , it was a pure slugfest.

I'm really not to high on Bautista.

Too eager for a KO, weak defense, unimaginative.

I figure Bernabe Concepcion is better than him.

De Leon by decision.

no! not yet! it would be murder with those 2 heavy handed guys.
i think he needs to take it slowly but not as slow as JC Jr! hes still 20, a lot of years to be in big fights if he can prove himself against lesser skilled opponents!

even if he wins against Deleon, i would still consider Bautista as a prospect kinda like Cotto when he held the WBO at 140. IMO Deleon is the weakest out of the 3 belt holders, if Bautista wins this Saturday its more a testament to what kind of fighter he can develop into rather than how he would do against the devision elites.

De Leon is going to put Bautista's lights out, Rey is so easy to hit it showed against a mediocure fighter in Medina. When De Leon lands though, Bautista wont be getting back up:lol:

Boom Boom seems to have some heart, but his reaction to getting hurt doesn't seem very good. He could be hurt bad by De Leon and take serious beating. I think Ponce is going to get a clear cut KO win, though.

he maybe green as of now, but if de leon takes him for granted, im telling you, boom boom packs a punch! being careless with this guy is futile. Ponce will be the favorite, but im supporting BOOMBOOM.

What about De Leon's performance on old Penalosa? Bautista could have easily knocked out this aging fellow.

I love Boomboom, but he doesnt know how to clinch when he's hurt.

C'mon kid, dont be such a macho man. If you get hammered, dont be shy to hold on a few seconds.
